Programming is an ever rewarding habit/skill to have.

Opening a million tabs on Chrome, inwardly saying, 'I'll get back to you later' after briefly reading the first few paragraphs

I have never been this serious with my life as a whole as I have since I started learning computer programming. I struggled to read one book a year (I mean non programming book like self improvement books e.t.c). Now I have finished two books in a little over a month and started reading a third book this month all while still studying programming. I started out with python and was honestly terrified of Java because of the semicolons, curly braces, parenthesis in front of if/else if/else statements but one day I decided to take a peek into a few Java programming books and found one "Learn Java the Easy Way" by Bryson Payne and it changed my life, quite literally. I read more now, I look forward to getting out of bed and any day I don't read, I just don't feel right. I need to read something and learn at least one new thing a day. If I feel awful at night, I just remind myself of the one new thing I learnt that day and that puts a smile on my face.

Side note, I am self-taught and started studying programming last year around November/December. Spent about two months on python and in January or February, I started Java. Been on Java since. Almost done with the Java book and looking forward to reading a more advanced book when I'm done.

The gap of data science in industry and academia is so large. As a data scientist in a large financial company, I see that people are still using traditional models such as linear regression and SVM, while people in academia keep inventing new concepts and techniques such as deep learning.

I am not saying that we should completely embrace deep learning, or stick to classic methods. But I just feel so surprised that the gap is so large...Sometimes I am even thinking whether I am doing the right "data science"...

how is it that the android emulator in android studio runs buttery smooth on my up-to-date linux ryzen setup with just few terminal commands to set up, while my up-to-date windows version has some bullshit problem with virtualization, even with SVM on, Hypervisor all good, and yet crashes with a WHPX(?) error?
i mean ok i don't have an intel at hand but still the problem should be fixed by now according to google docs. even the fixes provided by the internet didn't help. this twist between windows and linux is very weird on my machine.

Could any dev here explain how do u apply SVM to HOG features? I know what HOG features are but cannot for the life of me figure out how the hell to use them in an SVM -_-

Looking to get a good understanding of the fundamental ideology and math behind neural networks and support vector machines. I am well versed with math so I can deal with heavier stuff if needed, I would like to see formulas but an explanation to their conception would be nice. Does anyone have any resources like this? Practical hands on practice exercises would be a plus

Using normal text editor's like notepad vs IDE's like eclipse and android studio is the same as driving manual cars vs automatic cars.
