Post my vaccination break, I login to work today and this is waiting there for me..
My designer just dropped this note in our channel where we have our entire team including directors (my manager),
"I wanted to specifically give kudos to Floyd for creating the Confluence page for XYZ feature requirement.
It's so elaborate and very well structured 👏🏻"
And my Tech director adds to it and appreciates my efforts.
My TPM kept praising various new initiatives that I started and how it made him happy to see the progress + how everything was organised.
My skip level manager kept appreciating the work entire previous week and even in a meeting we had just before I started typing this post.
I feel like I have settled really well in this new org + started gaining trust of teams and leadership.
I need to continue the momentum before I start leading the product independently (a few more weeks should be good).
Now two things I am expecting in return, is good amount of international travel + good timely hikes.
And what's interesting is that my employer is known for these exact two things.
So fingers crossed.. 🤞🏻5 -
TPM decide to upgrade all our servers at once Friday night and didn’t bother with any smoke checks. This is what our APIs looked like Monday morning.

Incident of my colleague, who is really hard-working but ain't so smart strategically.
So this morning the entire team connected to discuss the status or criticalll points.
When my colleagues turn came, she delivered a monologue for 15 minutes straight and was still going strong.
(Fucking hell, I couldn't stop laughing while typing this).
My TPM had to interrupt her, and the way he did is even funnier, to discuss few points.
I was the only one on video and I just couldn't resist laughing at the entire situation.
How the fuck can someone talk non-stop for 15 minutes without being breathless and still can go for another round.

Autodesk + Linux is such a goddamn clusterfuck.
Firstly, they only release RPM builds for Maya, and say that they officially support RHEL and CentOS only.
No support for Debian, Arch, etc. What. The. Fuck.
Fine. Okay. Corporate policy. I can live with that. I use alien to convert the RPMs to DEBs on my ZorinOS installation and then found a script which does the installation for me. Cool.
Installs with a few library fuckups. Okay, no problem. I added the missing library versions (ancient libpng and libtiff). I run it. It throws up with some error involving licensing.
Upon searching it seems that Maya 20-fucking-17 can't handle the "new" consistent device naming system (the one which renames eth0 to enp1s0 or whatever). WHAT THE FUCK. Okay. Found a way to disable that. No effect. It's doing the equivalent of a boot loop with the same error.
Wow. This is the leading player in 3D content creation software :/
(As an aside, I did try to install Fedora 28 but it keeps failing with a TPM error. Yay for Linux distro quirks).1 -
What do people here use for blogging and hosting? Everything I can find from searching suggests self-hosted Wordpress, but I am cautious because of its reputation in the dev world and since all the guides I have found so far are directed at non-coders. Thanks in advance for any opinions 😊8

This might be controversial, but hear me out. I actually really like Windows 11.
I know needing an MS account, telemetry data, TPM, etc... are disqualifiers for some. I get that. And, I'm not suggesting that I'm going to blow out my Linux systems to install it at home.
But, being forced to use Windows on my office PC - I much prefer the feeling of 11 to 10.
Also, the "new" terminal is actually really nice.8 -
My TPM just asked me to upload the files I changed on the server, I asked if they don't use git (today is my third day in this company), he said no. And today is also my last day, because I resign at the end of the day.1

Windows just activated TPM on my Windows 10 computer on first of february 2024.
The main reason I stuck with Windows 10 was the sole reason of not wanting to upload my hardware-fingerprint to MS.
Well, guess they just got it themselves and now, disabling the TPM comes with a lot of downsides, as it is now holding my certificates hostage...15 -
TIL all x86-compatible CPUs have ISA support and the ability to be reset by the keyboard controller via A20 line, all thanks to not wanting to alienate a single person who refuses to upgrade.
you can put ISA or AGP devices straight onto the fucking LPC bus and it'll work on most CPUs. Y'know, on the same bus as the TPM in most?
you already know i'm gonna put a floppy controller, a parallel port, and an IDE controller on the PCI-e bus with an ISA daughterboard12 -
Windows 11 is here. And there is a bug that prevents it from being installed 🐞
I got "incompatible" error so I downloaded MS compat. checker and it says: need TPM
I go to BIOS and enable TPM. The tool now says YES, compatible. But the Windows update panel still says NO, not compatible.
Bottom line, Microsoft does NOT want people to install Windows 11. If they did, then they would not have silly bugs, such as this one. All they had to do is to clear the compat. flag cache after restart7 -
Why do TPMs and non tech people ask for hard deadlines without knowing any technical details about how will it be implemented or how deep it is.
Then blaming you for giving wrong deadlines when it doesn't complete before the deadline for any reason whatsoever
