Hi all! I am an iOS developer and I've been using Firebase as my 'online storage'. I want to be a more full stack dev and creating my own APIs. I want to start to learn Java or .NET APIs (uuh an iOS dev speaking about .NET :P). Anyone that can recommend good courses or tutorials and best practices? I have been learning Java and .NET in college, but that is about 4 years sgo.. Thanks in advance!11

Programming in a tree. I usually climb up here and read, but I decided to code, and I didn't drop my laptop :D
I covered the screen with my hand because my code's ugly, and I don't want anyone to see it lol.144 -

Dear people who think Microsoft buying GitHub is fine because Microsoft is more supportive of open source than before.
Here's the facts.
1) Microsoft is a large tech company investing in many things. That's a fact.
2) If Microsoft were to exploit GitHub, it would be a benefit to other departments in Microsoft. This is also a fact.
(For example, if tomorrow GitHub was tied to azure or some annoying shit like that.)
3) If such exploitation occurs, it will most likely be to the detriment of the free community of developers. This is a highly probable outcome.
4) The only question now is this.
"Does Microsoft care about open source enough to cut down on potential profit."
The answer of any sane, unbiased individual had to be no.
This is why people leave GitHub today. It is NOT because some childish hatred for Microsoft. In fact, I would've personally moved out of GitHub if "any" other large tech company had bought it, thereby compromising it's neutrality.

My family. Mom was the first person to be proud of the things I was interested in. Then my girlfriend pushed me to finish school(she is my wife and the mother of my child now) but mostly my daughters.
I want them to grow up knowing what their dad does.
I am pretty motivated most of the time though, even for shit that i do not like.
Also...money.....i really fucking like money.12 -
Rant about other people ranting about people ranting about Microsoft/GitHub, you really need to stop telling people about what they're allowed to rant about, your rants about other people's rants are taking over devRant and it's annoying as hell!
We get it, you're against people ranting about certain topics, but at some point you've got to move on.
(How meta can we get?)5 -
If Microsoft bought GitHub to increase the amazing open source projects it has already been doing ( typescript and vs code) then I am all for it. This isn't your father's Microsoft and people seem to be missing that lately. Their contribution to open source software has been incredible the last few years and I'm excited to see how they grow that with the acquition.2

When I don't have the motivation to work on one of my projects, I just wait, play some games, start a few other projects, and eventually, I start working on it again sometime.
Works most of the time.1 -
I try to change my workplace to a local coffee shop or library.
That new environment and a good, large coffee really boost me
