I use Windows for work and I’ve always used Linux for my home set up. Got a Mac a few months ago…..yeah I see it now….

I love our industry but it’s filled with way too many tech grifters, fakes and waste men pretending to know what they’re doing. A lot of whom low key hate coding and the people that do it, wish they were as good and those people yet lack the self awareness and humility to see where they fall short and actually learn the technology.

Even if you see the industry as just a way to make some money, learn how to code and if you can’t do that then learn to appreciate the process. Stop talking as if you know what you are doing while embarrassing yourself and coming off as a dunce and condescending to those that do.

I kinda hate to admit it but they were right. Data structures and algorithms are kinda the shit and you should try to learn and appreciate them. Not just so you’ll use them. But in that learning them helps you become a better problem solver.

There’s a self taught dev that my company works with for really bespoke applications. A senior dev that works with him and helps manage the development process told me that the dev in question doesn’t really know how to implement the finer details. Very telling indeed.

Hate Ai all you want but this is low key what a lot of us have been waiting for.

It’s Linux programming or DEATH!!

Poorly designed software is akin to a torture device and no one can convince me otherwise.

Why on earth would you make a piece of software that randomly disconnects from printers, prints documents improperly for no reason - even if print settings are configured properly - and has a dog shit UI that’s a rats nest of menus and drop-downs.

Only a fool would make software overly complicated to use then blame the user when they voice their concerns.

Had to face the music and make the jump from Ubuntu 22.04 to Fedora 36. Am I have to say it’s been night and day so far. Everything is snappier. Yeah dnf is very slow in comparison to apt but there’s changes you can make to speed things up and the nifty terminal interface is a great change and helps to make up for the speed issues.

Came with Python 3.10 installed, Gnome and gtk4 apps are nice, fluid and up to date and the random slowdowns, freezing and restarts of Ubuntu running the version of Gnome are nonexistent.

For the life of me I can’t see why Ubuntu would drop the ball like this. I have a Dell XPS 13 developer edition and this is the best it’s ever ran. Even wifi connectivity is better despite of the crap WiFi card that ships with this machine.

I want to love this version and while it is the most graphical appealing and functional version of Ubuntu I’ve ever used. The memory management issues make it damn near unusable.

Me in the beginning thinking programming is all fun and games. I think that's what holds a lot a new programmers back. This can lead to over thinking and even procrastination.

Me peacefully using Ubuntu.

When you finally see the light....

Working with a manager who thinks they know how development works but doesn't actually know is the worst. At times your better off fixing the issue versus explaining it to them. Fix it then explain it.

So I love what Apple is doing with the new Macs, great hardware, streamlined optimization, blistering performance.....great stuff.

But here's the thing. I think I'm gonna get a ThinkPad and just install fedora on it. It's far cheaper and outside of only going up to 16GB of ram it meets all my needs.

But between you and I a big factor in why I'm finding it hard to go Mac is the system settings. Like why is it like that? Why when I click something a separate window opens.....odd.

So I have this new role at work, still app development with some added responsibilities. Nothing major. But already I'm noticing what could be a pattern.

Zoom meetings that could have been phone calls or emails. Meeting was setup a week and a half or so in advance. Had real a meaning last week where a team member mentioned it and reminded the other team members of the upcoming meeting. We all confirmed that we'd be there.

I get a notification that the meeting is in 15 minutes. Meeting time!!! So I log on, only to see one person from the other company, two more people from said company log on then my team member. But to my surprise him and I are the only people from my team on zoom.

My team member then goes on to waste this poor man's time asking him questions that he doesn't really have the answers to and I'm here just wondering why.

Why isn't this meeting a 2 minute phone call?
Why am I in this meet?
Is my team member bored?
How does this make my company look in the eyes of these people?

Now I know why my other team member didn't log on. They smelled the rat and knew this would be a wast of time. And me being new to the team walked right into it 😐
