So my manager is making the designer (who didn't know how to code) of our team learn front-end development. We are so hopeful for a peaceful future.4

Why does Windows have to be so fucking useless when running docker. Everytime i need to make a change to the NGINX container, I have to restart the docker daemon, rather than rebuild and restart the container.
I would be doing this on Ubuntu, if I could install it that is.8 -
Please stop calling calling rest to any json over http api. That's not rest, rest has its specifics details to be called rest.11

I wish I had programming friends I could talk to. I have no one I can really talk about all this with33

I just remembered the first time I set up a Linux-Server. It was a simple Apache webserver at my first internship anf I didnt have a clue about literally anything.
My mentor guided me through and gave me literal step-by-step instructions (alright, now type... and now type...).
At the end he told me "OK, now run 'sudo rm -rf /*' to finish setting up". Me, being the naive and clueless motherfucker I am, happily nuked the everloving shit out of my newly setup server. I was like "Alright, WTF just happened??" He then told me "Now that you know how it works, do the entire thing again all by yourself. And you just learned an important lesson: NEVER exexute commands you dont know what theyre doing". I really did learn a lot on that day and still follow that lesson :D8 -
HOLY FUCK I DID IT
I wrote an Arduino code for my friend. I didn't have any board at the moment to test it, but he flashed it the next day, and EVERYTHING FUCKING WORKED!!! AT THE FIRST TIME!!!10 -
Client: I can't generate the report for this vendor. Please check.
Me: It's working sir.
Client: But not for me. Please check!
1hr later...
Client: Oh sorry, I was selecting the wrong vendor.
Wtf, madafaqa1 -
After 2 years at the uni with 6 programming courses, I stopped studying and started working.
So I kinda left with some expectation or demand for some level of standard, not the highest, but at least not expecting diarrea dog shit level of quality.
On my first jobs, I was pretty shocked with their outdated technologies, terrible workflows, insanely unsafe setups and vomit inducing management. I thought "this isn't normal, this shouldn't be happening"
After being for a week on devrant, I now think the opposite is not normal. -
A colleague was doing configuration on a server and needed to restart the network card.
So he clicked disable it, just to notice that his remote session died ...
Now where can we get a cab?8 -
It's easy to make jokes about this whole Google assistant thing, but can we just take a second to appreciate what they've done here?
Ethics and morals aside, this tech is incredible, we are truly living in the future. Right here, right now.18 -
I really wish I had started using version control sooner. 76 contributions on my GitHub this year, 52 of them are from this month 🙈4

Fighting to get a code repository up and running at my current company.
There is no central repository at all; people use their own local files and hope nobody else made changes. At least one product had to be retired because nobody could find the firmware source. I didn't even bother with git, I set up an SVN and showed them how basic and easy it was to use. They all agreed it was simple, and then continued to not use it. Facepalm.3 -
The teacher told me to describe the transformations, so I did. I wonder why she didn't accept it...10

So I just got one of those pop ups saying YOUR COMPUTER HAS BEEN HACKED.
I decided to call the number, while firing up a Linux virtual machine, running Linux Mint. I customized the home button to look like the Windows start menu logo, and proceeded to let that scammer connect to it.
He was so confused, considering the script he was reading off of was meant for windows. He opened up terminal, and started typing in "tree" and told me that's how many viruses I have.

My room mate works in a data analytics company with his girlfriend. I always wonder what they do in office as they spend on an average 12-14 hours.
Yesterday we were having dinner and his girlfriend said "now we are working in D3"
Having used D3 for a small project in college I was going to ask more about it.
Her next sentence was "It's a language. Like html"
I did not say a world. Just nodded.6 -
Why I hate my job: 18 out of 21 developers are Chinese daily smokers barely speak English.
Why I love my job: We build software/hardware to predict future earthquakes and save lives and hundred million or even billions dollars in damages. And of course make China super rich by selling it.10 -
Devrant is getting more boring day by day. Everytime the same shit. Some people see things that are already rated, and just rerant it. Boring.3
