Most software titles (Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, Solutions Architect) are bullshit.
Only think that matters is Junior, Mid, Senior and Lead Engineer.
Rest = garbage, the industry changes quicker that when one climbs up the bullshit career ladder to only find out he is obsolete.14 -
given Mossad's recently demonstrated brilliance in supply chain attacks, I'm leaning to believe that they were behind the liblzma backdoor.8

[Blue pill]
stay in my current workplace [approaching the 10yrs mark], with an agreed salary and seniority raise, with a high probability of losing my current project [which is really fun!] in Feb next year and having to switch to another one, but keep all the benefits
[Red pill]
switch full-time to contracting with a potential to reap big bucks [x2-x4] and be free to juggle as many clients as I like, dictate my terms, become a shareholder, but lose all that warm and cozy certainty guaranteed by my current employer2 -
if someone were to have your back in a life-threatening situation, would you feel awkward about it or like you don't deserve it?12

Amazing! My joke functionality worked and the server delivered it's content successfully to the client. The joke: malloc is wrapped to give that message and retry IMMEDIATELY. Expectation is that the computer that was already in panic mode gets even fucked up more because it's out of memory. My malloc is literally while((ptr=malloc()} == NULL) { show_warning()
;malloc();}. Imagine if it didn't give that warning, I would've never known that a malloc failed. Who checks their freaking malloc result? You should, but i do not see much people doing it.
The previous crash on screen is what happens if you're doing a get instead of a post. I just declare my server app indestructible btw. Ffs!5 -
A hundred bucks that the time interval between moments when you can cross a street is a sequence with π and e in it4

Please don't get triggered by stupid little things on the internet, just shutdown your internet device and go outside and get some fresh air
I've read some answers on forums on the internet and some people that answer ends up making another problem, because the user said something or whatever
If you want to help, then follow these rules:
1) Read the problem that the user has
2) Read what they have tried to fix it
3) If you know about that problem then answer it
4) If you don't know... just move on
Just learn to shut the fuck up!9 -
Microsoft, why the fucking fucking bastardising arse knobbing fuck would ANYONE want to open a directory on the LOCAL C DRIVE in the PISSING BROWSER?2

PSA: All quixel assets are completely free on the new fab store until the end of the year!

Left the office pissed and frustrated by the bug that Stumped me. For some context, I've only ran to stackoverflow 3 times between now and 2022. I was making my way home, feeling crushed and downcast, when it suddenly occurred to me that this might be one of those times to seek refuge and succor on SO
Taking my chances with an answer being ready by the time I get home, I branched into area one shopping complex by 730, whipped out my system and started narrating my ordeal, buyers and merchants wondering whether I was closing a multi billion naira deal that couldn't wait or whether I was plain possessed
About half an hour later, I was done. There was no answer but I was instantly covered with the sense of calmness I imagine Christians have after casting all their burdens on their god. I certainly felt lighter, even though it's likely nobody would ever respond. Cuz I've been returning to answer most of my questions days later when I eventually figure it out
Yet, it's comforting putting something overwhelming out there, hoping it crosses paths with someone smarter or with sharper eyes to spot what I'm doing wrongly5 -
Inside yesterday's kiki dream, I woke up from a kiki dream and tried to explain it to my wife
So yeah, behold. Tomorrow you'll witness the first kiki dream seen within a kiki dream.2 -
Love it when a shady colleague of mine says something to me and another to someone else within a few months. She also kinda told me I shouldn't do a PhD, cuz not everyone is made for it.
Sexism is well and alive in academia! The worst part is that half the time it comes from women.
I hope karma pays her back, cuz I'm too busy to do so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯7 -
I personally don’t mind the wave of “back to the office” as long as transports costs are added to my income and I can start 1h30 later and leave 1h30 earlier.10

We should build an international anti-scammers brigade to find them and later take them down physically.7

My manager has sucked the soul out of me. I feel drained, anxious , highly demotivated and I have lost hope in life. He has a toxic way of managing people. The team is always micromanaged and even in that he keeps scolding people for not completing tasks in the timeline which he thinks is right. I am always filled with multiple tasks on my board and he wants me to complete all of it in one day irrespective of complexity. We have a standup that is scheduled for 30 minutes but goes on for 1 hour 30 minutes and all he does in that meeting is tell people they have not done enough even while we have done far above our levels. And there is a meeting again in the evening to update on the tasks where he again starts scolding everybody. Few of my teammates say that whatever we do we will get scolded. We have never really celebrated any success as a team. He expects the team to be always available like 24*7 and work for atleast 14 hours a day and sometimes overnight for like more than 20 hours a day. And we have alternating 6 days work week even when ceo has approved 5day work week for tech. My manager doesn't treat anybody as humans , we are all just machines to drive his deliverables. He values only deliverables. It's very difficult to get holidays. But the problem is he has inflated my salary a lot and I have un-vested esops which is holding me back at the company.3

I always have to remind myself that fascism is a developmental issue. They are not able to change their mind. There is no solution but post-natal abortion.4

Whenever I see a website ask
1. Accept all cookies
2. Customize selection
I can see what they're really saying...
1. Accept! and I'll fuck off out of your way and let you read.
2. So you wanna read the content heh? Step into our office. Ok then, lets go through them one-by-one and you can explain to me why you think you don't need that cookie. and then MAYBE we'll fuck off our of your face so you can read the scant few lines of text standing between you and finishing your homework/job/whatever.18 -
New idea: Fuck raytracing for global illumination because you just need too many rays for it to converge
What if we do surfels (to keep the number of probes down and relevant to our scene) and we update the 4x4-ish sized hemisphere irradiance maps not by tracing a single ray per frame per surfel. I have a fast as shit compute shader rasterizer... What if I just raster each surfel each frame? Should be around the same number of pixels as the primary visibility so totally feasible....
Each frame just jitter the projection a bit and voila. Should have extremely high quality diffuse global illumination at well below 1 ms. Holy shit this might just work3 -
Okay so my last idea has one big problem: I need to project vertices into a single space which encompasses an entire hemisphere. AND straight lines need to remain straight when projected.
That's not something a typical projection matrix can do. Damn. I'm thinking maybe something like octahedral projection? [1]
But I'm not sure there's an answer. Else I would have to chop up the hemisphere into parts and try rastering each tri for each view. Ugh, that sucks
