Long time lurker, I now have something to show you and it's something I've proudly made!
I've been working on OctoLenses lately, a Chrome extension allowing you to filter your PR and issues on Github. I find it really useful on a daily basis; and you might too
It can be used to:
- Monitor the PRs that need a review (or that have been reviewed successfuly)
- Find issues on open-source projects you like that you could take on
- Anything you can express with a Github search basically
It's good enough that I feel like I can share it with you, and I'd really like if you could take some of your time to give me a bit of feedback.
What do you like?
What you don't?
Which feature should I add?
Anything constructive basically :)
Thank you (and sorry for the self-promotion)!1 -

New devRant web app for desktop is now live! (https://devrant.com - the .com will now redirect to feed if you are logged in) Let us know what you think, and especially if you spot any bugs (very likely some slipped through). Some cool new features are still in development, will be out shortly.64

Today’s topic in my Computability & Complexity Class:
The Halting Problem and The Undecidability Results
...sounds like my life2 -
I just installed VSCode for the first time yesterday; running on a MacBook. I spent the early hours of the day working on my C++ project on there. Moving to the workspace was really, really easy; I haven’t had the best of experience with Visual Studio.
VSCode is so clean and light. I love the extensions they have for different languages; I’ve only tried the C/C++ one at the moment. I also love the fact that you can create json preference files for shell/process tasks and also for launching different kinds of debug sessions.
It has a fully functional, built-in terminal. And at this moment, I’m looking to fork the code from GitHub to try and see if I can add something that’s been bugging me since yesterday.
One of the many nice things I’ve gotten from devRant since I joined. Thanks folks.8 -
So I started getting email notifications telling me about transactions made using my credit card. But I DON'T have a credit card in the first place.
Instead of trying to call customer care and pressing an endless array of buttons, I drive to the bank. I tell them the situation and they check every database they have but they couldn't find any trace of a card connected to my account. Turns out their database somehow had cross-links in their database.
How does the one of the biggest banks in the country possibly have such an issue. Worst part is that it's been a day and they still haven't fixed it -_-7 -
Except my class being full of fucking idiots (see another rant...) I wouldn't change nothing.
Pretty happy right now!2 -
I see people complaining about their CS professors quite frequently. Meanwhile, my CS professor stays late and is always willing to help us out with our work. I've been to his office twice this week to get help with assignments, and each time he's glad to help.
Oh and he offers us a soda as we get ready to leave. He has a filing cabinet full of can sodas. 100% my favorite professor I've ever had.5 -
Robocup Leipzig 2016. World competition.
After years of (mainly unsuccessfully) developing our robots we finally managed to place 3rd. Out of all the countries in the world only the Germans and Austrians managed to beat us, and honestly I'm perfectly fine with that. You guys have some really good devs :)5 -
Got contacted by "cosmicjs" ( https://cosmicjs.com ) to build apps using the platform and blog about said apps.
Googling them, they got articles spread all over medium, by either the co-founder or the developers, praising it to be the better wordpress and how some seemingly paid twitter posts praise it too.
Apparently "Deutsche Bank" and Volkswagen, Apple, Microsoft, IBM, JPMorganChase use it, which I highly doubt, maybe somebody here can figure out if thats actually false claims, since googling any of those together obv. doesn't return anything, nor makes it sense why they would spend such a large amount on... nothing?..
That one might be just me, but then theres those comments from themselves on producthunt, praising it, though it seems they failed to logout or something? the one co-founder seems to be praising how easy it is to install, by talking about it like an external user?.. (screenshot in comments)14 -
Can't install Flutter in Raspberry Pi feels bad man.
I just want to do so much using this small machine. -
Got to learn Shopware (the eCommerce thingy written in PHP) for the job.
Bought a book worth ~60$.
The author writes: "Use vagrant it's soooooo comfy and cozy and everything!".
Sure, why not.
Got to get online over my smartphone.
Cloned the repo with the Vagrantfile.
Did a 'vagrant up'.
Downloaded the Ubuntu box of around 1.5 GB (reminder: over my smartphone which has around 3 GB 'highspeed' internet connection).
Vagrant initialized and provisioned the box.
Error.
Error?
Error.
VT-X is not enabled. Hm. Strange. Wait...when it's not enabled, can it be that...
Yep.
THIS SHITTY LAPTOP SCHMAPTOP DOES NOT SUPPORT VT-X AND I PULVERIZED JUST THE HALF OF MY INTERNET DATA FOR THIS SHITTY BOX IN ORDER TO JUST DOWNLOAD THE ZIP FILE AND INSTALL IT OLDSCHOOL-SCHMOLDSCHOOL INSTALL A APACHE VIRTUAL HOST.

Dear devRanters,
If you're going to screenshot any part of your feed or notifications: PLEASE switch to dark theme first. My optometrist has already advised me that my sight is starting to deteriorate because of these screenshots.
Thanks,
A very concerned ranter.7 -
Hi guys!
That is my first...well, rant? No, not at all.
I found this community by accident. I was looking for something like this, but did not realize til now. I scrolled through some posts and it is awesome to read awesome stories and rants from awesome people.
I am a 21 year old SAP ABAP developer from Germany. I have finished my bachelor's degree (business informatics/business information management? German: Wirtschaftsinformatik) last August. I have always been interested in web development and teached myself some php basics when I was younger. I would love to do more things like that, but things have changed. There are lots of different frameworks, languages and stuff. It's complicated.
I am not sure if I have understood how this community works, but I am very excited to find out.
And, as I already mentioned, I am German. So please feel free to bash my shitty English. :D25 -
Alright, since the organizer for the European devRant meetup canceled it (let's not get butthurt/hating etc), I'd love to (with the help of some other people) organize one myself since I was really looking forward to it!
Question would be, who'd be up for it?
Location would most likely be Germany since that's the most central point.
I'd love to hear from you all!55
