Being helpful and a c++ programmer has led me to trying to add a (tiny) feature to cpython.
The file I'm currently looking at is 2,000 lines long.
I have regrets...10 -
People say "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."
However, I think companies can and will create anxiety in a product to get you to buy something else, or something more expensive. This would fit with planned obsolescence. You need to update to Windows 11 because Windows 10 will not have support of updates. Fear the viruses!!!
Also, perhaps companies are purposely hiring incompetent people to head up products? So malicious incompetence?
I think the enshitification of tech is on purpose for various reasons. One of them being to create anxiety in people so they accept shittier solutions for all facets of life. Not just tech solutions.
A tech example of this is searches. They want you using AI. What is the end game goal of AI? Is it easier to hide bias?21 -
So in Chrome, "resume browsing" doesn't actually mean resume browsing, it means "take a shit in the top right corner of my screen and kick it about a bit".
Must be satisfying to create a feature and know that 10 million people open it by accident every day and swear at it.3 -
Most software titles (Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, Solutions Architect) are bullshit.
Only think that matters is Junior, Mid, Senior and Lead Engineer.
Rest = garbage, the industry changes quicker that when one climbs up the bullshit career ladder to only find out he is obsolete.14 -
I got a song that I like a lot but it's made by a kid for kids. Therefor, youtube doesn't let you add it to a playlist since it's "Kid content". When I saw that message, I've felt treated like a freaking pedo. What the hell do those fuckers think about the general population? Who is evil, sees evil. And like if this is a solution to anything. You can just bookmark it in your browser.
Sick shit, how negative can you be YouTube. Judgemental fuckers80 -
I always have to remind myself that fascism is a developmental issue. They are not able to change their mind. There is no solution but post-natal abortion.4

Life is a boring, repetitive endless task of suffering and slave labour, at least if you're a third worlder like me
What is the fucking point...7 -

" Guy Zaken, Mizrahi’s friend and co-driver of the bulldozer, provided further insight into their experience in Gaza. “We saw very, very, very difficult things,” Zaken told CNN. “Things that are difficult to accept.”
The former soldier has spoken publicly about the psychological trauma endured by Israeli troops in Gaza. In a testimony to the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, in June, Zaken said that on many occasions, soldiers had to “run over terrorists, dead and alive, in the hundreds.”

My manager has sucked the soul out of me. I feel drained, anxious , highly demotivated and I have lost hope in life. He has a toxic way of managing people. The team is always micromanaged and even in that he keeps scolding people for not completing tasks in the timeline which he thinks is right. I am always filled with multiple tasks on my board and he wants me to complete all of it in one day irrespective of complexity. We have a standup that is scheduled for 30 minutes but goes on for 1 hour 30 minutes and all he does in that meeting is tell people they have not done enough even while we have done far above our levels. And there is a meeting again in the evening to update on the tasks where he again starts scolding everybody. Few of my teammates say that whatever we do we will get scolded. We have never really celebrated any success as a team. He expects the team to be always available like 24*7 and work for atleast 14 hours a day and sometimes overnight for like more than 20 hours a day. And we have alternating 6 days work week even when ceo has approved 5day work week for tech. My manager doesn't treat anybody as humans , we are all just machines to drive his deliverables. He values only deliverables. It's very difficult to get holidays. But the problem is he has inflated my salary a lot and I have un-vested esops which is holding me back at the company.3

According to the minister of external affair of Germany, the geneva convention is a "tiktok fad".
What a fucked up country seriously. We should "nuance" the bombing of civilians. Sure /s10 -
As I settled into my armchair with a steaming cup of tea, I thought back to the time I almost lost my heart—and a small fortune—to a smooth-talking scam artist. It all began innocently enough when I joined a dating site after my children encouraged me to put myself out there again. That’s when I met David. With his charming smile and heartfelt messages, he made me feel seen and cherished. We talked for hours about everything—from our favorite books to our dreams of traveling the world. I felt like a teenager again, butterflies in my stomach as we planned our future together.
But soon, the conversation took a troubling turn. David claimed he was stuck overseas due to a sudden medical emergency and needed money to pay for treatment. My heart ached for him, and against my better judgment, I sent him several wire transfers, believing I was helping the love of my life. Weeks passed, and suddenly, the sweet messages turned into silence. It dawned on me that I had been scammed. Just as I was drowning in despair, I heard about a group called Specter Lynx. I reached out, sharing my story with them. They sprang into action, tracking down David’s digital trail and uncovering the web of deceit. With their help, I was able to recover a significant portion of my lost funds. Now, I not only have my money back, but I also have a newfound appreciation for caution—and the strength of community. I often share my story, reminding others that love online can be a double-edged sword, but with a little vigilance, you can find your way back.4 -
Love it when a shady colleague of mine says something to me and another to someone else within a few months. She also kinda told me I shouldn't do a PhD, cuz not everyone is made for it.
Sexism is well and alive in academia! The worst part is that half the time it comes from women.
I hope karma pays her back, cuz I'm too busy to do so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯7 -
New idea: Fuck raytracing for global illumination because you just need too many rays for it to converge
What if we do surfels (to keep the number of probes down and relevant to our scene) and we update the 4x4-ish sized hemisphere irradiance maps not by tracing a single ray per frame per surfel. I have a fast as shit compute shader rasterizer... What if I just raster each surfel each frame? Should be around the same number of pixels as the primary visibility so totally feasible....
Each frame just jitter the projection a bit and voila. Should have extremely high quality diffuse global illumination at well below 1 ms. Holy shit this might just work3 -
what does your manager get impressed by, care about? if you were to flex what sorts of things would you flex to them?
is there someone that makes decisions over your life that isn't necessarily the manager, and what would they be impressed by or care about if one were to flex it in front of them?19 -
how to be a shitty client:
- have a legacy database where column names are misspelled and everything is nullable
- hire external help which instead of helping break the ui (bonus points for breaking the api too)
- demand a very much custom auth logic but decide to use aws cognito for shits and giggles
- demand 1hr daily meetings
- demand biometric auth with 0 knowledge of how biometric auth works (the previous devs just had a face id prompt which does nothing and retrieved email and password saved on the device???)
- message me at 2am because you don't understand how timezones work + demand a build while you're at it
- call me a "heretical pagan" because i took a day off on a holiday you don't celebrate (???)
i could go on but i think this is enough11 -
A chemical reaction between helium and krypton is impossible, but if you force it, the byproduct will be a single atom of barium with the diameter of roughly the earth orbit. It will blink in and out of existence, taking everything it covered with it. Yes, including the sun itself.

According to the report, GDC plans to establish humanitarian bubbles in Gaza. The IDF will be tasked with “clearing” any such bubble of terrorists and erecting a separation wall within 48 hours to prevent further infiltration".7 -
There really ought to be a special word to describe a non-technical user who keeps finding weird, edge case bugs that we can't reproduce.
Any ideas?11 -
Why is American culture so money-centric?
Instead of “he's not believing me” they say “he's not buying it”. Also, “put your money where your mouth is” and “don't let your mouth write checks your ass can't cash.”20 -
SCAM FUNDS RECOVERY SERVICES // RAPID DIGITAL RECOVERY
As a military officer, I approach challenges with a strategic mindset, relying on discipline, training, and a commitment to mission success. However, nothing could have prepared me for the deception I encountered while investing in cryptocurrency. Like many, I was drawn to the promise of significant returns and the innovative nature of digital assets. I believed that my analytical skills would help me navigate this new landscape, but I quickly learned how easily even the most vigilant can fall victim to fraud. I lost over $50,000 to a fraudulent broker who operated with a façade of professionalism and credibility. Initially, everything seemed legitimate. The broker’s website was polished, their marketing materials were compelling, and the testimonials appeared genuine. As I invested more money, I felt a sense of excitement and optimism, convinced that I was making sound decisions. However, it all came crashing down when I attempted to withdraw my funds, only to find that my requests were met with delays and evasions. The frustration was overwhelming. I felt not only a sense of financial loss but also a personal failure. As someone who has dedicated my life to serving and protecting others, it was difficult to accept that I had been deceived. I spent countless hours researching and trying to understand how I could recover my investments, but each lead seemed to lead me further into a maze of deceit. The emotional toll was significant, and I was left feeling uncertain about my future. Just when I thought all hope was lost, I discovered Rapid Digital Recovery. Their reputation for helping victims of financial fraud caught my attention. After reaching out, I was met with a knowledgeable and empathetic, Rapid Digital Recovery who understood the complexities of my situation. They carefully assessed my case and outlined a clear plan of action, giving me the guidance I desperately needed. With their support, I was able to recover 95% of my losses, a result I once thought was impossible. This experience has been a profound lesson in the importance of vigilance in financial matters and the value of seeking help when necessary. The world of investments can be fraught with risks, and it’s crucial to remain cautious. I now urge others to be careful with their investments; not everyone is trustworthy. Always conduct thorough research, and when in doubt, consult professionals who have a proven track record. It’s a lesson I will carry with me, both in my professional life and personal finances.
