So apparently I own land in dubai. Like three separate mortgages based on the email I received.
Your request (Mortgage Registration)
with request number xxxxx / 2024
has been completed
and you can print your issued certificate from this [link]
I've stripped out the numbers and link.
After confirming it was safe I followed through on a old spare cellphone, and yep, I own three mortgages for properties in dubai.
Except obviously I don't.
Someone used my name, an american, to register mortgages in dubai. *Nice* properties according to the pictures.
What started out as a scam email, or what looked like a scam email, went to an actual government of dubai website, with real mortgage registrations.
How in the fuck does that happen?
The only thing I can think of is someone committed identity fraud, and/or an alphabet agency went through the list of known political dissidents, set up a bullshit mortgage in a questionable territory, and are now using that as a pretext to monitor 'extremists with foreign ties.'
All that for some guy on the west coast that hasn't attended a political rally in his entire life.
Must have been that sign I held at sixteen years old by the side of the road that said "bush lied us into a war, and people died."
or maybe it was that time I told a really enthusiastic obama supporting police officer that it amazed me obama had time to win the nobel peace prize what with all the bombings he carried out against foreign civilians.12 -
Freaking github markdown! I just want this directly under each other like i fucking wrote it:
[Client implementation](implementation_client.md)
[Server implementation](implementation_server.md)
But it's places it together on one line. Fine, i put a new line between it.
[Client implementation](implementation_client.md)
[Server implementation](implementation_server.md)
It fucking shows a blank line in between!
AAAARGH
I'm sure the github CTO was seen on Epstein's island5 -
I've just found that python includes a logo implementation. That turtle thing where you give it instructions to draw. Awesome nerds.4

so, I quit my corporate 9-5 job in 2020. and decided to move out of the field completely.
Moved to a small, tier 3 city, joined my family manufacturing business, cut off my circle, and completely shut my laptop....
...for 4 months.
then started developing solutions for my business, inventory management, invoicing, accounting, and other small apps.
and finally, after 3 years, in 2023, decided to move back to IT. but not as an employee this time, but as an enterpreneur.
developed a social media app, called Dialogbaaz.
probably coding is a disease that doesnt seem to go away. lets see where it finally takes me!4 -
I want to smack the next person who tells me what AI can do. As hard as I can.
Fuck the internet and what it has become.10 -
Are HR universally incompetent? I recently rejected an offer from a company mostly because of their incompetent HR.9

Some old tech: exists and functions just fine for 20+ years.
Some tech bro: Yeah we gotta throw this out the window and re-invent the freaking wheel.13 -
Current task:
Somehow, one of my predecessors made some sort of custom hook tied to woocommerce check out that pipes some data into a nightmarish spaghetti fuck pile of undocumented wild west visual basic bullshit. It does this, presumably, via a set of parameters passed as plaintext in a url. I know this because I found the singleton that declares this. Helpfully, Mr. Fuckass named the class "Default", so I only have around 30k instances being kicked back by my IDE when I search for it. The only reason I "need" to find this, is so that I can just change the button to an href pointing at my own MS for shipping, and I need to change the fifteen params being passed to just one - a customer ID, which should be stored in the session, and referenced by a cookie. Once that is done, I should be able to freely delete a couple of gigs worth of bullshit. Been stuck on this for three days now. God forbid we have a test environment or something.
I'm tired. Can't even get angry anymore really. Can't even think of anything funny to say about it either, I just can't wait until this is done and I can go back to sleep.4 -
I've worked hard today*. I think I deserve to slack off for the rest of the week**.
* Napped for 4 hours

Have you ever presented an idea and been told it was dumb/ it won’t work?Only to have someone else present the same idea and everyone be amazed. 😂🤷🏾♂️10

Writing a brainfuck interpreter is a lot fun: Mine does recursion within loops. I also added functions: strings, you can cheat. Stackdump(!), Exit script(*) , go to first cell (^), go to last cell(?), nulling cell (0) It parses this for example: "retoor" ^[.>]. It will dump string retoor. Explanation: the string moves ptr to sixth place. ^ will reset pointer to first. [] is a loop that executes as long there's data in current cell. The "." prints char of current cell (Number if not alpha etc). ">" moves a cell to right. [.>] will thus print until it moved to an empty cell. To move to first, I could've also used my repeater function by adding times to repeat after command: <6 moves six places to left. .>.>.>.>.>.> is also a way to print six chars. +[,.] works as the Linux program "cat". , is one char keyboard input.
Thanks for listening to my tedtalk9 -
Does anyone else find GitHub actions supremely fucking annoying? Everytime I've used it, I've been like "holy shit it would be amazing if I could do this intuitive action, only issue is it doesn't exist".2

The fact that I can buy a game for $70 price tag today, and still run the risk of it getting taken away from me, by the company that built it, is why I'll always pirate games.
If buying is not owning, then pirating is not stealing.16 -
I finally managed to install Gentoo on my laptop.
My experience with it was very good. The hand book is enough but I got an error which the handbook didn't mention so I looked online and asked in their Discord. Everyone was fast, friendly and very helpful. If I compare NixOS to Gentoo, NixOS is rather the opposite. Heavily lacking documentation, community is rather slow and from what I've seen on reddit, there is a drama going on lol.
Time wise:
It should have taken me 2 days. But it took me 2+ weeks instead (I also got lazy at one point and procrastinated). And today when I reinstalled Gentoo (my previous Gentoo install didn't boot) and knew what I was doing, I did it in 3 hours.
Before that I tried out NixOS and I liked it but it had its flaws.

Now I will experiment with Hyprland and i3.
I will also create an install script out of all of it at one point.
I'm really impressed by the very low RAM usage btw. Holy shit!
A tip for new comers: Begin with the dist-kernels. Later on you can still customize new kernels and build them from source. Otherwise you'll face issues.13 -
"I'm imploring you to help me start a war. It's an prestigious line of work, with a long and glorious tradition." slightly modified quote3

I tried github copilot. Spent the first hour trying to work out how to turn off the inline copilot popup star thing. Asked copilot. It gave me the wrong answer. So, a coding AI doesn't even understand its own documentation.
Our jobs are safe.11 -
What the fuck is Medium anyway? And what makes them have the audacity to paywall everything? Their site looks like an out-of-the box Wordpress template anyway...6

How fast do you actually counteract leaked password manages of your private accounts?
Right away? Only if the first signs of it malfunctioning appear?4 -
Don't you just love it when people in an organisation enable micromanagement because they're a bunch of fucking corporate simps?10

We have an open space at the office, and you can hear things people say in their teams meetings.
Most common question is: "When do you think you will be done with ... task?"2 -
Nearly half (47%) of workers using AI say they have no idea how to achieve the productivity gains their employers expect.
Over three in four (77%) say AI tools have decreased their productivity and added to their workload in at least one way.

No raise. Not like I single handedly rewrote one of our weirdest and most complex legacy code bases or anything... Oh and even so they whined about how long that took that's probably reason they'll cite if I ask about this lack of raise thing.
I mean, technically I got a little more just because the tax rates are different for the new financial year but come on5
