"Root, go fix this bug. It'll take you two days."
The "bug" is a feature that was never implemented for one particular payment type.
The code in question is two years old, full of typos, smells, junior-isms, and is convoluted AF. The feature's commit touched 190 files and implemented many other features as well. Thus far, I have been unable to narrow down where this particular feature's code lives for the other payment types, nor which code or payment paths lead to it. Burned out, I can barely focus on the screen, let alone follow its many twisting and dynamically-inferred paths. I hint as to the ticket's scavenger hunt nature during standup.
"But I wrote comments on the ticket telling you exactly where to look to fix it," Thundercunt admonishes in front of the team.
"Sure, you did," Root replies. "You reworded what the original dev had said in the comments 20 minutes prior, and agreed with him. His comments were helpful, but it doesn't tell me how any of it works," she continues.
TC scoffs and closes the meeting.
Root stares blankly, seeing neither code nor screen, questions her life decisions, and recalls the previous tickets she has worked on: nearly every one of them busywork, fixing other people's bugs. Bugs she never could have gotten away with if she tried.
"Why do I put up with this?" She asks. "They don't care, and it's killing me."
But the bills remain, and so must she.
"Fuck my life" she finally decides.20 -
This company!
Ugh.
Two days ago we had an hour and a half meeting on which projects to focus on, with the result being all seven are top priority. Because of course.
Last night I told my boss why an api he has me hitting always returns 401s; even gave him the line# responsible for the response (in his code). After an hour and sixteen minutes of him debugging, he finally admitted I might be right. zzz. This morning, he tells me it's on my end, and to ask someone else for their project's API code. The problem is that the server is not accepting the new application's key, since that key is not in the allowed list. That other project works just fine. Guess why? Their key has been whitelisted for months. But it's totally my code. Yeah. Bloody brilliant. 🔅
Anyway, today we're discussing "Winning with Accountability," a 100 page book that boils down to "do what you say you'll do, by when you said you'd do it, and take responsibility if you don't." But a huge part that the boss is stressing is: provide the exact date, time, and timezone of when things will be completed by. I mean That's fine for sales calls and reports and such trivial busywork. But dev projects? Not so much.
And that's been my past three days!

Worst busywork?
Having a graphic designer on the team that doesn't know development.
Gods, the amount of tweaks and adjustments they come up with.5 -
god remind me to never work with an education software company again
first, they didn't even know my course has been done for months, like, does anyone look at what your company produces?
then, they completely change the intro page and wording, have to reado that, its anyway a wall of text which they probably smugly think is good for SEO, *WRONG*, if every page is formatted nearly the same with some words swapped out you for sure are PENALIZED, not rewarded... clueless clowns
and NOW, I need exactly to-the-pixel dimensional images????? wtffffffffff
all for a course that *MIGHT* bring in something like $500... *MIGHT*
I mean for these courses it's more important about giving back and helping the community, but asking this much paper pushing busy work bullshit that you know won't even amount to an hourly wage north of something like $2... it's just not worth it anymore
never again -
Why do I feel like if you don't serve everything up on a pladder for the product owner / product management types, that they'll never find something as simple as a build executable the pipeline produces? Just more busywork for the competant ones to do...
haha flashback to the startup days when _i_ was the one acting as scrum master for the clowns who couldn't even do something as simple as set the release notes in apple and google stores. they truly need to be spoon fed everything. fucking incredible.
