Never worked before so I'll talk about one of the former staff at my school.

This guy worked as IT and did some teaching in the high school. Early last year, he suddenly disappears for no reason.

Now, I'm going to go in order of what we (the students) found out, not, chronological order.

Firstly, turns out that in class he would make comments about female students. Nothing explicit, just kinda strange. I forget the examples I heard but think like the overly friendly old guy. Those types of comments from a 40-something IT guy. (Some female students knew about this for a long while but I only heard about it after the investigation)

Next, rumor got out that they found some stuff on his computer. I don't know how, but it turned out to be accurate, and we were accurate at the follow-up assumption that it was porn.

After that, the school made an announcement that we had been arrested. Up until then, we just assumed he had been sacked. He was weird sure, but we didn't think criminal.

Some other students looked into the police records, and it turns out this guy had been arrested for possession and distribution of child pornography.

Pretty sick right? Its worth pointing out now that our school has Pre-K through 12th grade students.

I gained a new level of respect for my female classmates after that. I didn't even know that was going on, really wish I could have helped out.

#1 life lesson learned from coding:
Don't work on projects for the government or any authority EVER!

Finally worked up the nerve to quit my job. Time to move on to bigger and better things.

My work gave me three laptops because not one of them can access all the resources I need. So I have to balance my workflow around these three machines.

Given the recent election, I'm taking measures to ensure the privacy and security of my data. Call me paranoid, but I think the NSA is going to be getting some extra funding soon. I'm already working on encrypting a ton of my data. Any other tips some of you guys could give me?

Now that I have your attention. My problem is with "IAR embedded workbench", not so much with windows but I'll get to that.
I've used that IDE for a few years.. 2 years ago. Since then I apparently forgot how to even create a project from scratch with adding all the necessary libraries and all that.

My initial deal with a client was to give them a solution using whatever tools I deem necessary. As I recently moved to linux and IAR is not available for that os.. and I also enjoyed working with CLion and PyCharm which Are available I decide to use CLion to write my C project.
A problem was that to compile code for microcontrollers I need tools unsupported by CLion.. oh well. I can do all the compilation and uploading of the code through terminal .. so I make a bash script that does it all. Super convenient. Development is going well and all.. until they ask me for the project.

I sent them the project so that they can see my progress. They can't do shit with what I gave them because they don't even have make on their machines let alone the compiler. All they have is IAR. But the guy that wants to see the code is not really a programmer.. he is a hardware specialist so I can't expect him to do anything more than use what he knows. He doesn't need or want to learn more right now.

So I go to windows and start porting my code to an IAR project and 2 days later I am still stuck with it. FUCK. Not only was the installation process horrible but the tools I wanted to install additionally did not work as promised either.

I know it took me about 2 days to setup all I needed on linux but I was enjoying it every step of the way. While this garbage is frustrating me so much. The fact that I used to do it before adds to the pain.

I am this close to telling them to just look at my code in notepad and I can setup a vm for them in which they can compile it if they really really need to.

If they just told me from the very start that they want me to work with IAR that would have been fine. I would have never seen the easier way and would have gladly figure it out then. Not now.

I'm a young dev with ADD. Basically I just need to stay up late, and then get myself to hyperfocus on my code. It typically gets done in time to get a decent night's sleep.

I'm a full stack web dev (LAMP, MEVN), not a sys admin. Besides complete control of my os, are there any benefits to a Linux-based os like arch or ubuntu? I've played around and set up both in VMs, but I'm struggling to find a benefit that justifies the setup commitment.

Why do tech writers always produce deliverable documents in Word files instead of Markdown, LaTeX, or anything that is easy to CM? It would be easier to track revision history and dump out of the CI/CD pipeline to the customer.

Trying to write a program a la `man` in ncurses and just, is this hell?

I just want a floating header, a scrollable main body that reads from a file, and a command line footer, why is that so difficult? I finally got it to handle resizing terminals but now I need to try to compile it for windows, which does have unofficial ports of ncurses, but I have no idea how to use them.

Should I just restrict the windows version to a non-interactive command instead of a TUI like I want?

Tried (and still trying) to do an LFS build. I already worked with Ubuntu, Debian, and Arch, but somehow a successful build eludes me. Each time I follow the book as closely and possible, but each time I got different issues. I've had to format the partition I'm working on at least 20 times now. Its fun, but I have no idea how I manage to mess up in so many ways.

What kind of fucking IDE changes the order of the open file tabs randomly?!?

I need to deal with multiple files and I really don't want to search for the file tab every fucking time I need it! It even gives the option to move tabs around as to arrange them as you wish. How is that helpful when the next time a file is opened the arrangement goes to hell?!

Fuck. I wish this IDE didn't have such a good debugger so I'm not stuck with it.

My stupid ass: Makes substantial changes to the code I have been working on and breaks it.

My boss tells sets the tasks, and supervisor assigns them to the dev team. It should be as smooth as that simple sentence, but it just isn't. Boss sucks at communicating his ideas clear enough, so we're left scrambling on ourselves trying to guess and develop what he needs, and when we deliver it, boss says it's not what he asked! It's my first job as a self-taught frontend developer, but the lack of structure and clear objectives of the project got me so stressed out that I'm thinking about looking for another job.

About the one ranting about people who don't know how to use Google:
that kind of people is my family, and, my sister ASK TO GOOGLE, really, she write all the homework of her school to google.

The ability to generate to generate all of my data transfer objects/, data persistence objects/entity, and unit tests for those.

I love having solid data models before I begin to work with behavioral models but it's a lot of manual work.

imagine you "manage" your applications firewall rules by writing them into spreadsheets and sending them to the fw-admins to implement them

imagine they don't implement exactly what you tell them / implement rules for you that you did not ask for

also imagine it is crucial that you have a reliable source of information about what firewall rules are and are not implemented for your application, because the firewall-guys cant simply check and tell you what rules are implemented for your application
