Oh my god... Storytime.
A customer comes in with I assume is his father or grandfather.
Customer: I need a computer, but without all the internals
Me: So a case?
Customer: Yes, I need a Dell computer outsides, but without the internal components.
Me: Well, we don't have Dell cases, but we sell custom build cases and they come with a power supply.
Customer: *says nothing, but looks interested*
Me: *walks over to the cases to show him* So this is what the cases look like and we have two types, one for a ATX and one for a micro-ATX.
Customer: *still says nothing, but looks at them*
Me: What motherboard do you have at the moment?
Customer: Well, I don't have anything right now, but I'm replacing another computer that didn't work very well. I'm going to be getting some Dell parts to put in here.
Me: O-okay. So this other computer, I'd like to see it in shop to see what's going on with it.
Customer: Oh, you do NOT want to do that. I hooked it up to another computer and it blew it up.
Me: Huh, that's weird. I'd still like to look at it if possible.
Customer: Oh no, it's all wired wrong and... *some bullshit, but stay with me*
Customer: I am the best at technology. My hand has computer parts in it--government funded. *some more bullshit*
Me: Okay... *I try to bring it back around* Well, I'd still like to see the other computer for myself. So you don't have parts for this new build yet, right? You don't know what type of motherboard you have?
Customer: No.
Me: Well, I would get the internals first, so you know what size of case to get, and then get the case.
Customer: Okay. Thank you for your time.
He shook my hand with his "cyborg" hand and I was tempted to say something about "try not to crush my hand," but elected not to. Also during this entire exchange, the old man continuously farted in the background.22 -

Fartin' around with Godeps and having difficulties, but things aren't nearly as annoying when you are able to work from anywhere while drinking craft beer :^)

I found a cooler master atx with built in power for like half the price of a cm atx and a cm power supply yay2

Microsoft is always at it.
Hello, I recently discovered this eye candy of a looking website and how good the CSS looks (Kudos to whoever made this) , and I decided to post a rant of my own. And its about MS Edge and other applications.
So I built my own ATX tower a while back (Loving it) , and I found that it was WONDERFUL to have a computer that was brand new, that didnt have candy crush preinstalled on it when I got it.
Windows 10 users, do this:
Press WIN+I to open the settings menu.
Go to "Apps"
Scroll down the list....
How many applications do you see there that are actually useful , or that you have downloaded?
I never downloaded a Realtek Driver... and I never need it for anything to work. This is the case for 90% of the things you may see in the applications.
Why is HULU installed?
Why is NETFLIX installed?
Why is MINECRAFT BETA INSTALLED? THE BETA HASNT BEEN OUT IN YEARS?
But I digress, this is the case when I work on a computer such as my grandmothers who, bless her soul, isnt very adept at basic file management. Heck , she uses free Norton Antivirus against my recommendation to use the PAID active firewall application on her computer (VIPRE)
So needless to say she needs help. All the time.
So here comes microsoft recently, reinstalling like 15 different programs on her computer , including MS edge. Who else is tired of bloating? I know I am.
I recently found this program on Git!
Its the Sycnex Windows 10 DeBloater
But guess what? DONT USE IT.
Wanna know why?
Because if you do, it works, and if it works, it disables:
- Cortana (basic search engine for your OS, good luck finding candy crush).
- Microsoft Store (That means no XBOX games pass either)
- It breaks part of the file explorer
Wanna know why? BeCaUsE it geTs riD oF Ms EdGe
And believe it or not, apparently MS edges source code is Mandatory for certain functions on your computer. So even If you try to uninstall the browser, it stays behind in some form.
So there you have it. They hard coded it into windows.
Enjoy!
So its not even the author of the GITHUB programs fault, its just a real techincal limitation of the platform.
I hate that stuff man. I really do. There should be 20 things installed on my computer and thats it. Everything else is just, space for games on a solid state. Or Eclipse Photon, etc.
I would post links to show you guys a few things but. Unfortunately I cant post URLs yet!
However, thats my first rant. Hope you liked it.20 -
IT'S ALIVE! IT'S ALIVE!
One of my first rants was about my PC dying. I just fixed it today! Bought a new power supply because I was suspecting that that was the issue. Turns out I was just a moron and forgot to plug in the 12v ATX pins!
Still a good PSU purchase for whatever next rig I build. Long live my PC! -
TL;DR Looking to build a tower. Starting as a web dev machine but then home cinema and then maybe gaming rig that works well with Linux.
Firstly really it will be a web dev machine as that is my day job, but later I'd like to
- home entertainment theatre
- probably gaming
- possibly comp sci stuff
Initial budget is somewhere at £800, I think I have a 500 watt psu already, i do kind of want to build my own case to save money, but might be an intense challenge.
So don't know whether to buy a low budget gfx card at first, or whether the on board gfx of a good motherboard will be good enough.
Definitely AMD / ATI as Linux (screw you Nvidia).
I'm thinking ATX form factor, annoyingly I have a micro-atx case but that make it difficult to upgrade so much.
I'm pretty clueless really, I just want something that will run seamless with Linux.
Thanks for any help ranters.4 -

Need your help!
Tldr: how do I build a system with 2 power supplies so that I can power it from either one?
I'm currently working on a "video editing van" for an upcoming project and I found awesome atx power supplies that you can use on your normal car power source. Something like this: http://powerstream.com/DC-PC-12V.ht...
Here is where it gets tricky: obvioisly it would be easy to build a dedicated system for this purpose but I want to use an existing system with an existing psu. I still want to use the pc normally at home with the standard psu but don't fell like switching every single power connector everytime I take the pc into or out of the van. Do you have any idea how to make some sort of switching mechanism so that I can leave the Hardware as it is and just power it of any of the two psus?
Thanks in advance!8 -
> picking parts for best possible piecemeal upgrade/sidegrade price with parts made after 2011
> need CPU, mobo, RAM, case
> Ryzen 5 2600, 16? No, 32GB DDR4 of just whatever speed...
> wait, what do you mean new motherboards are $300? Wait.
> Wait, no, how is the one Ryzen motherboard under $100 a shit B450M on sale? The fuck are these prices?
TIL motherboards are volatile as fuck on price. In fact, mobos are less stable in value than most crypto.
Jesus fuck.
(The one B450M i saw is actually now $140-some and a nice X570 is currently $120. Why does the price of these fuckers change *daily?*)
as for case none under $100 are good so i picked some random mostly-mesh ATX mid case over my preferred ATX full case and i'm just gonna pray i can find some fan config that works because at this point i'm done with this shit fuck this, a bottom-barrel mobo, low-tier cpu and a decent case shouldn't be $400 or more12 -
