Public Article 13 Filter - Don't leave this to BigTech

Most of the people who know me say I'm a very relaxed and empathetic guy, with a well respected technical knowledge and adaptability, definitely not the kind of "tough" boss you usually find. So, I'm really getting tired of big tech companies that keep preserving those narcissistic bad bosses that take advantage of guys like me, because I lean on the "softer" side. It's unbelievable the number of these companies that, although they praise a softer leadership style, they still preserve these morale-bloodsucking motherf**ckers, only because they are obsessed with (their own) results, which they usually deliver, no matter the cost.

Now that the whole generative AI debacle is finally dying down, I gotta ask the same question again:
WHY THE FUCK CORPORATIONS INSIST ON FALLIG FOR THE HYPE CYCLE EVERY FUCKING TIME?

I mean, I know why. It's because BigTech,Inc. always convinces companies like "Bob's tech wannabe car windows or something" to pay $$$ for this year's software fashion trends using arguments like "all the cool entrepreneurs are doing it! You don't wanna end up like those communist losers, do you?"
Then BigTech sells some shit that the muggles can't really afford (much less use), then shit hits the fan, then BigTech pretends that they never heard of it (hey, Blockchain IoT self-service BI wereable augmented reality 3D NFT eletric scooters from big data industry 4.0!) then the news cycle moves on. Rinse and repeat.

But, fuck, can't the muggles ever learn fucking ANYTHING? Tech industry is the fast fashion of industries. Do not try to imitate Facebook Google Apple Amazon, let them run their own course towards the cliff.
Instead, do your own thing.
Silicon Valley is not a good example for furniture companies to follow. So stop IKEA chatbots.

I was terminated last year from BigTech. Will I ever get another job in another BigTech company?

Not a layoff. Terminated for moonlighting. Lack of judgment on my part. Trying to move past this but the events still haunt me till this day.

Not looking for sympathy. Rather, advice on how to approach job search and background checks in the future. I have big ambitions and don’t want to be an IC forever. I’m hoping this doesn’t prevent me from becoming a manager —> Director in the future.

Our #bigtech repo is like 19 billion LOC so how am I the first one to try to do simpleThing with obviouslyRelatedThing?

My search foo yields nothing and I fear its not supported yet.

I finally got around to setting up my own cloud with nextcloud on my own dedicated server.

Just setting up Nextcloud alone was not really the challenge ( I've set up at least 2 Nextcloud instances in the past ).
The actual challenge was to install /e/ OS on my mobile phone and get it to work with my Nextcloud instance.

It's not all performant, buttery-smooth or super-fast yet, but for a one-person / user-cloud, I think it should be just fine.

There's still room for improvement in terms of server-side performance, but it's working fine with the basics at least.
I need to figure / iron out some issues like social federation via ActivityPub not working, Nextcloud SMS not syncing up my SMS, Mail app crashing because I used a self-hosted Nextcloud instance, etc; but those are things I could work on slowly, in the course of time.

No, the server is not physically controlled by me, yet ( it's a dedicated box server though. Still, hosted and physically controlled by a provider ).

I intend on setting up another 'replica' on a RaspberryPi which I will then make primary, connecting to the internet via DynamicDNS.
I'll probably keep the server as a fallback / backup server just in case my home server loses connectivity.

Taking back control from Big Tech is something I intend on pursuing actively this year. I've had the idea in my head for too long that it has started to fester.

This is only a first step, of many, that needs to follow, in order for me to take control back from Big Tech.
