Boss - gives tasks to me. Timeline: 10 days.
Me - work hard and finish the solution in 3 days.
Boss- wtf is this. Do it properly.
Me - chills for 15 days. Submit the same earlier solution after that.
Boss - yes this looks nice now! Much better than your earlier work!
Me - dude seriously what kind of stuff do you smoke before coming to work?8 -
So Github went down and it showed how much empathy devs have for fellow devs.
We saw tweets saying things like,
God I can't imagine how freaking stressed out the devs at Github are right now.
Or "Hugs and kisses to the devs at Github. You got this"
Of cause there were the occasional dumb Github tweets.
But in all it just shows how much we empathize with other devs and knowing they are trying their best to handle the situation. For more than 8 hrs. Imagine a black out of something like twitter for just an hour or two.. Gives you chills.
But bravo/brava to all the understanding devs.5 -
A female boss I worked for, pulled an employee retention tactic that still gives me the chills.
She paid dogshit salaries to all her employees. And yelled at them enough to keep them overworked and burnt out.
When one of them tried to resign, she said "fine you can leave us but I won't be giving you any salary slips, no experience/recommendation letter and neither acknowledge that you ever worked here.
You get to leave the company when I decide for you.
You have already stayed here so long that if you decide to disappear tomorrow it will leave a gap on your resume in your next interview."18 -
Things that give me chills early in the morning. A password reset email that contains my password in plain text.
Seriously! 🤦♂️1 -
That moment of chills down your spine when you delete a few records in a huge production db and thinks "strange, this is taking longer than it should?" and suddenly realise that you forgot to include the "where"-clause in the statement...3

I walked into the office.
Following the usual morning words spit out, more undead then awake.
"Good morning, jada, jada."
I'm placing my backpack on my desk.
Now opening the case with the notebook.
I grab the notebook as usual.
*crack*
Shit.
Now I'm holding the battery pack in hands. My notebook still chills in my backpack.
FUCKING FUCK SHIT WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? CURSES ON THE MANUFACTURER OF THAT PIECE O' SHIT!2 -
I just... don't have the motivation to code. This thing that once gave me chills and joy for hours now feels tedious.
I still love programming. My depression is starting to win, that's all. Tearing up trying to write this.
Oh and yeah, my coworker just knocked out the entire staging Oracle database, so there's that.5 -
I never had such a strong hookah.
The hookas I had in Germany were "light" compared to these. I have the same chills as if I have smoked a blunt.22 -
Before devRant:
* Sit back and enjoy the night watching series/movies*
* Chills in the weekends*
- It's nice to code at work
😊
After devRant:
*anxiety building up*
*start sweating*
Should I code all time?

When I get home I'll start a project7 -
It was fun to stay home last week, this week the isolation is starting to get to me. Plus I'm PMSing. Somebody should come and hug me... 😢
Been getting really cold chills lately, so I'm not even sure if I got the damn virus.
You guys, please make a vaccine soon. I need to get out and socialize or I'll go insane. 😖7 -
Context: Am Sysadmin, occasionally a programming job flies in.
I just told my superiors that i will can no longer program for a specific customer i already poured ~90hrs into due to stress and thus health issues that have been accumulating since the beginning of the year. Everything relating to this customer is giving me chills. I can't even do my other stuff without hinderance anymore.
Because this is in parrallel to an existing customer complaint that came in yesterday i just received a rather rant-y email about what the fuck would be wrong with me, which immidiately disappeared again.
It was revoked as i now know. So far they seem to be understanding, but i still don't feel good with the decision i made.
I really want to finish the project, but i just can't. It drives me insane. I never felt like this.
Sorry for the wall of text and any errors. I'm really not having a good time right now.4 -
- Searched for a cascader component for React
- Installed it
- Lost 2 hours trying to load dynamic options
- Turns out that there is a parameter named "isLeaf" to identify when a node have no children, which is also used to allow the loading of dynamic options
...
isLeaf...
isLeaf......
isLeaf.........
*chills*1 -
Oh my f**cking god! Bohemian Rhapsody is quite possibly the greatest movie ever made, at least the greatest biopic! Left the cinema with chills 😮😁2

Yesterday we ( me and few other students who showed up to lecture ) had an interesting bonus mini test at course about software architecture. At the end our proffesor showed us this youtube video
https://youtu.be/3XjUFYxSxDk
And the task was ... write which architectural patterns and styles best describe men's brain and which women's.
Just wanted to share this creative exercise1 -
Blindly copy pasted and executed commands from tutorial.
Just because it was faster to reformat sd card in the worst case ( raspberry pi ) than figure out what each one did.3 -
Recently .. (28. Jan) .. Bluetooth 5.1 spec was released containing among other things, the abillity to detect the angle of recieved or sent signal using phased array antenas. I am exited as ... as ... i dont know what but this is amazing for indoor location uses ... cant wait to get hands on dev kit.
Anybody else fidling with BL tech ?4 -
RavenDB was by far the worst document storage "solution" I have ever had the displeasure of working with.
- Loading data crashed the service.
- Queries crashed the service.
- Monitoring applications crashed the service.
- It didn't support clustering or HA of any kind.
- Sometimes it just worked for no good reason.
- Often it broke for completely random reasons.11 -
1, someone breaks public/private key encryption
2, watch the world burn
3, people will understand that this rant is just a joke1 -
Recently i switched from using git with gui tools to just console, and love the speed and reliability increase, but guys do you really resolve merge conflicts in console? Is it effective/worth getting used to?4

Snapshot testing give me the chilliest of chills because for all that matters we have to assume once that what one's done is uttermostly correct
I mean to err is human right -
Yay !! Today's Friday.. two fully caffeinated, sleep deprived days ahead !
God ! I love the chills !2 -
after moving back to my home country, buying an apartment and after my career started to head to nowhere because there is nothing to code for me in work, just manager stuff, I am returning to coding after work to get back into shape, practice more, learn new stuff (and the old stuff)
wanted to create a small webapp with laravel/vue, holy fucking shit how hard it is (for me) to setup your env
install composer -> command php not found
o.O im pretty sure i had php on this machine HOW THE FUCK WOULD I HAVE ALL THESE PROJECTS HERE THEN
install php8.1 -> no such package
-.-
upgraded to ubuntu 22.04, install php8.1, composer
create new laravel project -> 3 errors, missing laravel/pint, phpunit
* visible confusion * i told you to create a project, if you need it, why didn't you... oh, wait
composer install -> same
well, * looks left, looks right * --ignore-platform-reqs
but still getting the chills from a new project, now I go sleep and tomorrow I start my journey to get back to business, wish me luck -
Tl;dr any tips for new scrum team ? How to start with story points with people that dont know eachother?
More:
Its for our team project at uni ( 8 people 1 year). Yesterday we had our first meeting and the hardest part was asigning story points. Or asigning some benchmark value for story point.
Looking for some practicall tips since uni gives us all the theory we need. ( Does not mean I know all the theory :D )6 -
What is your source for dev related news? Sorted by its reliability thruthfullnes would be best.
I regullary watch https://news.ycombinator.com but more often i see articless writen for drama and clicks.1 -
DB migrations give the chills.
This one went well. It worked as expected but that "uneasy" feeling lingers... -
Agrrr... I hate to do code review of that shit! I hate to write docs for that shit! I hate to talk to PM! I hate dumb developers!
But there are several things about programming that make me calm and happy. When I'm thinking about one of those things I just sit and smile.
One such a thing is the process of upgrading gcc from sources.
1. Build new gcc with old gcc.
2. Build new gcc again with newly built gcc. Call this build A.
3. Build new gcc once more with build A. Call this build B.
4. Compare that A and B are exactly identical to the last bit.
5. You now have self reproducing compiler.
That is just beautiful and literally gives me chills.
