The convo between my friend and me back then
He: dude I heard you can code can you help me with this coding challenge on codechef
Me: bro, I try to let's check the problem
After 15-30 min we solve the question together
Then after 3 days or so he again meets me
He: do you know about Kali Linux
Me: no man not heard of Linux but what is Kali seems interesting
He: trying to hack WiFi
Me: *getting excited* bro teach me
He: I'm learning too
That day he got to know he can't hack WiFi and I got to know that my friend doesn't know jack shit about Linux, also Linux is awesome
But that moment changed my whole engineering life, I got to learn about Linux and I'm getting good at it every single day since then.
It's been 3 year since I met that fucker.

The saddest and funniest side of our industry is (atleast in India): someone works hard and makes it to the best colleges, do great projects on AI, ML; get a good score on Leetcode, codechef; gets a job in FAANG-like companies...

And, why is there so much emphasis on Data Structures and Algorithms? I mean, a little bit is fine, but why get obsessed with it when you never write algorithms in production code?

Now, don't tell me that, we use libraries and we should know what we are doing, no, we don't use algorithms even in libraries.

Now, before you tell me that MySQL uses B-tree for maintaining indexes, you really don't need to solve tricky questions to be able to understand how a B-tree works.

It's just absurd.

I know how to little bit on how design scalable systems.
I know how to write good code that is both modular and extensible.
I know how to mentor interns and turn them into employees.
I know how to mentor junior engineers (freshers) and help them get started.
Heck I can even invert a binary tree.

But some FAANG company would reject me because I cannot solve a very tricky dynamic programming question.

Too evil.

Oh gosh! I learnt how to code...

if i am NOT doin any proj and i am just learning and solving problems on competitive websites like codechef , hackerank etc.
is it a bad thing ?
or should i just continue learning this way?

i am a B.Tech 3rd year student.Last month i started learning Php web development,also learnt HTML &CSS.
i struggled during the starting days but became quite comfortable with back-end development using Php,MySQLi, and JS.
But my concern is my Placements. I have seen students getting hired by top IT companies on the basis of their ranking in COMPETITIVE PROGRAMMING like codechef,hakerrank etc.
My question is that should i continue doing Web Development or should i invest time in competitive programming and stop doing web development?

Hi everyone !!
I'm new to coding community and but I learnt​ c++ in school. But I don't know how to improve on my skills. And what all should I learn to get an intern.
I tried codechef but I don't get it how to improve algos n data structures or any of it... N so much going like learn python or java ..make apps or build web pages .... It gets too much on my plate ...need suggestions how I pursue my self in improving competitive coding and alas build a career in web and Android with backend and front end to be precise a full stack developer .... Griefs apart "happy coding"
