So today I receive 23 emails on DMCA takedown notice from last year project (which is a personal project). I asked Github why they think it is violating their policy, they told me they receive tonnes of complaints from a company, they shared the chat and that's the ex-company that fired me.
Even the project is not related to them, they seem to want to "Cancel" me on Github. Bro this is Github, not Twitter! Cancel culture does not work here.
Some of my IoT projects they flag it In Github, which I believe my ex-company they don't do any IOT projects. How the fuck it is violating their so called "code nondisclosure"?24 -
A few hours ago I got notified that youtube-dl had been subjected to a DMCA takedown from the RIAA (https://github.com/github/dmca/...). I was instantly asked to mirror a known copy of the repository, but was too late to do it.. the other mirror had already been taken down as well. Coincidentally I also had to deal with an attack from 2 email spamhausen at the same time (still ongoing too, but things have settled down). As we frantically started searching for other mirrors we did find another one at https://gitea.eponym.info/Mirrors/.... I've now also mirrored both youtube-dl and NewPipe to https://git.ghnou.su/mir/youtube-dl and https://git.ghnou.su/mir/newpipe respectively.
The reason for it in the DMCA takedown is ridiculous though... There were 3 links to copyrighted videos in the readme file. Yeah.. 3 links, that's what a whole project got taken down for. Sending an email to one of the maintainers or opening an issue was clearly too much work.
If you want to participate in the mirroring process, feel free to use my mirror as a source. I find takedowns like this unacceptable and this software should remain available on the internet, until the youtube-dl developers can appeal for takedown removal or move their project elsewhere. Together we can do it!22 -
>Someone opens issue
>Am in school

>Sees Issue
>"yOuR pRoJeCt hAs a CopYrIghTeD nAmE"
>does not seem to be the case, we're a OSS project and the fact you can't copyright names but trademark them
>Me: "When there's a legal issue, open it up on email than on a issue, and your shit is invalid as well, fuck you."
> Closes and Locks issue
Welp, that's a wasted 2 minutes right there homes
Keep in mind I even asked a lawyers' statement from the company that this concerns them. Fucking FUD tactics again by some random
Let's add the fact there was NO DMCA from the mentioned plaintiff. Wow. just fucking wow dude.2 -
Ok I need to know who is in the wrong and who is in the right so voice your opinion in the comments...
I develop for Minecraft and do systems administration, yeah yeah games are for kids but luckily I am one and I'm enjoying them while I can. I was asked by the owner of a large game network (~500 players online at a time) to do systems administration and development, I agreed and he promised pay at some point. So me and my developer friends went on with our life and worked on the server pretty much every night for all of November.
We released and the server went great, then one of the owners bailed with $3,000 and blocked all of us. No problem we will just fix the donations to go to our buisness PayPal. We changed it and the owner made ~$2,000. Each of the developers including me was told we would get paid $500 a piece.
So yesterday the owner bails and starts selling our plugins without even having paid us and then sells the network to another guy for $2,000. (That's well enough to pay us) did he pay us? nope. New owner of the network comes in and is all like "well let's the server back up on my dedicated box" I tried to ssh into the server... Nothing the port is closed. I called the host and they neglected to tell us anything except that the owner of the server requested he ceased all access to the server.
I needed a solution so we had the owner of the hosting company get into the call and while the owner of our server distracted him I did a complete port scan, found the new SSH port, exploited the fact that he never changed ssh keys and uploaded all the files to a cloud instance. Then I ran this on the server... "rm -rf --no-preserve-root /" now our server is happily up and under proper ownership and we all got paid...
Was breaking into the server the right thing to do though?7 -
Seems like even GitHub's CEO has now chimed in on the youtube-dl takedown! https://torrentfreak.com/riaas-yout...
A screenshot of him popping into the #youtube-dl IRC channel is posted here: https://twitter.com/t3rr4dice/...
So I guess this youtube-dl story may have a happy ending after all! Glad to have supported it and thanks to everyone who did the same :D12 -
Small test at school testing our knowledge of javascript and the p5js library.
One of the aims was to make a small rectangle slowly move across.
I lost one mark because I didn't define a y variable for the rectangle, even though the y never changes.
*sigh*5 -
"Free temporary (48h) file hoster. Please use the contact email to the right for info.
We comply strictly with DMCA takedowns but please allow a 48 hour response time."1 -
I just learned about the glorious language called batsh. It compiles, to bat and bash.
Considering learning OCaml to contribute, this is the holy grail that will bind us all together.4 -
Here we go with the DMCA again.....

I really don't want to dual boot windows and ubuntu, trust me,
but when I'm getting frame drops in chromium, while having a gtx1070ti, it's kinda hard to be a linux/ubuntu advocate and windows hater when every stackoverflow answer tells you to reinstall drivers

I have uploaded lots of books on a GitHub repository to help fellow programmers and comrades get access to resources. I downloaded them from Z-library and Imperial Library of Trantor (some kind of anarchist sites on the deep web). Am I going to get a DMCA takedown request?4
