Yes Autodesk, I am fully fucking aware of the fact that it is not made for Linux but for what reason do you feel the need to block me from downloading it?! You know, there is Wine and there are also VMs... fucking pricks
And then they even start mixing languages 👏15 -
At my last job, I created a Google Map for a client, where you could click on any department from France, and it would tell you about all the antennas (think "outpost") of his society. I used a Google Fusion Table where I registered everything: the datas to display, the coordinates for every departments and for every region.
I then wrote a 15-pages long document to tell how to maintain that, since I used my personal Google account to create the map. Anyone having a full access to the website should be able to recreate the map from nothing and witout writing a single line of code.
Then I switched project, the company kind of fucked me over, and I just received a mail saying that Google Fusion Table will be put down in a year.
I just hope they didn't receive the mail. -
Ever had that meeting where it's expected that you will solve cold fusion, catch rainbows and violate the laws of thermodynamics? Just because you are an expert in your field?
Also beautifully demonstrated here:

Being addicted to Linux is a side effect of me not being able to get a faster computer when I was young.. Windows had a hard time on the machine I had.. Meanwhile Linux Desktop with compiz fusion ran like lightning with all those crazy effects.. If I had a faster computer I think I would've rather be addicted to AAA games.. Nowadays I can't use Windows because it's not as user friendly as things like Gnome.. Also it's not developer friendly compared to Linux Distros.. Simple things like changing the volume feels clunky in windows.. And the shitty windows explorer is the worst file manager of all the default ones in any OS.6

Being forced to migrate an application written to to run on Solaris 9, which uses Sun ONE Webserver, Netscape LDAP Server and Cold fusion and migrate it to RHEL 7.3 ppc64le before the 3rd of January (I was only told about the project this morning), and I'm told I *have* to use the exact same technologies and versions. I'm on leave for Xmas from the 22 until the 5th of Jan. I know exactly where they can put their arbitrary management deadlines.2

Okay so i graduated last year and got a job working for a place that sadly disappoints me in their web development practices. This place uses a dead technology(my opinion)called Cold Fusion by Adobe. They do not use any form of version control like Git and their sites are very shitty and the design and development is implemented very poorly honestly. It honestly makes me sad that i feel like im smarter than my department vp. That being said i do not feel challenged here and am looking to collaborate in some open source projects via Github preferably.I dont consider myself an expert in this field but i would say im about intermediate level in web development. Im pretty comfortable with HTML,CSS/SASS,PHP,JS/JQuery, and im pretty comfortable in the PHP framework Laravel. So if anyone is interested in collaborating or starting something up, id be so down for it. :)7

It's so early but i'm brimming with excitement and need to share...
I might be going NUCLEAR guys!
In the very literal sense, don't overthink it (and no i don't mean blowing stuff up, and no i don't mean boomer fiSsiOn, I mean the real stuff - fusion!)8 -
I bought a laptop with a 4GHz CPU, 32GB of RAM, 2TB fusion drive all to execute a hello world script in the terminal so that it can run fast :)4

Every time I read the abbreviation for Cold Fusion Markup Language, my brain translates it to this:
CFML -> C?! F*ck my life!! -
I've been working on this personal project, it has a, for lack of a better word, "interesting" work flow. I'm trying to make a program similar to Netflix, here's the way it works.
I have an html page with a video, and a black background, I use the webview plugin for fusion, which acts as a mini web browser, it's programmed to load the test.html file, which the test.html file than loads the video, then I build a gui connected to it in different frames. It's odd, yes, but it does the job done. -
Yo, so does anyone here have any experience about using Windows or mac printer drivers on GNU+Linux? So far my strategy has been to try to extract a ppd file from the Windows/mac drivers. It's an epilog fusion laser printer/engraver5

I'm in a dilemma.
I started this job about 9 months ago and it's really not what I expected. I'm the sole developer in my department that handles applications built around our customer database.
Well it's pretty boring and there is a lot of technical debt with the source code since usually 1-2 people are taking care of it so they never had proper conventions. And we have super old applications running on legacy solutions like cold fusion 🤢
I also receive a lot of problem tickets that never contain enough information to actually do anything and the people don't realize I have no idea what they do or what their business processes are.
The upside is I'm paid very very well for this job > 100 in a place where cost of living is cheap. And when there's no work to do I can work on side projects.
It's really not fulfilling work and idk if I should stick it out. I also don't know where I would head next. There's not very many companies working on cool stuff. Maybe remote work?
Anyone else have a similar story?6 -
wtf. Rip VirtualBox. vb sucks 😬😬
..
Just discovered Vmware Fusion 😍😍😍
what the fuckin fuck of the fuckness this piece of software is just fuckingly amazing7 -
I fixed a bug properly... Took down an entire application systems, sometimes you just gotta monkey patch that shit.
So it was a 15 year old cold fusion system and chrome had deprecated some window pop up feature, so I tracked it to the shared function that triggered this, fixed it there, tested it and even got it all past qa.
Turned out some of the other modules on the app had some other logic around this that made it not work there, they had implemented the fallback check without any fallback logic.
Time to rollback a 3 week sprint...1 -
Goal for 2019
- finish project I started in Q4 2018 and launch website with it
- maybe find some non invasive way to monetize this and earn some money
If I got time and power left :
- learn more autodesk fusion,
- design robotic arm using above tool
- print it in 3d
- program it with ROS arduino/rpi
- put it on some wheels
- make it driving around my flat
- make it pick up stuff for me -
I've always been a strong critic of the mac operating system and apple in general for they're overpriced products. few months back my old laptop kicked the bucket and repairing it was not an option as i was sick of charging the laptop after every 3-4 hours and had to purchase a new laptop immediately. loooking at my options around 50k rs or 700$ all windows laptops available in indian markets sucked (except for lenovo 320s) so i made the shift to macbook air 2017.my daily work involves photoshop illustrator and a dash of premiere pro. I also work on nodeJS and python using the pycharm and atom IDEs. After using it for a month i feel in love with mac platform and macos. Its a wonderful experience. gone are the days of crashes and the windows updates (ugh). the boot of the laptop is like magic and softwares like wmware imovie and notes keynote are f**king awesome. Long hours of work have become fun rather than hell dealing with constant windows gimmicks and bad battery optimisation on linux.
An explanation why all developers (except for the ones who require high powered gpus) graphic designers should shift to macos rn.
Advantages of using mac
No forced updates update whenever now or a f'ing month later no probs.
better battery optimisation than linux
no more installing os again and again (ubuntu)
better vm than virtualbox (vmware)
terminal for running bash commands
no crahes
Xcode platform
trackpad is worlds better than the best windows trackpad
Disadvantages
some softwares not available for macos
storage is generally less on macbooks
UI is simple (less elaborated than windows)
Workarounds
get a vm and install linux(vmware fusion 8)
ps. u may not need it though
wine and wine bottler for using windows apps
get a microsd to sd adapter for macbook and expand storage5 -
The small company I work for has FINALLY decided to start moving towards the MEAN stack, in which I was overly thrilled! However they have started to regress because "cold fusion is so much easier to write"
-
I LOVED cold fusion. However because of the yearly cost associated with it no one uses it anymore so it's hard to find resources when I run into issues.2
-
Any ColdFusion devs in here? I've been plying with it for a while; Nice Java framework, quick to deploy. Feels like it could struggle under high request volumes though..?2

Years ago there was a booom with counter-strike portals and I wanted to have one by myself. I uploaded php-fusion on ftp, download a free template and fill content. But, basic profile was not so interesting as on other sites. So I found a dev, sgo wrote me better profile (for free). I wanted to show user id but didn't want ask him, so I tried (echo in html) 4 hours of trying print a simple variable. When I already done it, that feeling was beautiful and I realized, that I can do changes by myself and try other things. Next was basic VIP plugin (with sql injections etc.) which I sell to other people and that was the moment I know I will be dev

Not having to constantly engineer software. Honestly, this long-promised disruption is like nuclear fusion. Always 10-50 years away.

First week at the University, i became a circular mail with an offer for a place in the webteam. Requirements were a basic knowledge in linux/ubuntu and its packagemanagement and also some minor basics with nginx.
one day later i decides to mail my interest and that i mostly self-taughted me using linux since some years and began programinga year ago with python and recently deployed my first project in a VPS with nginx.
either, my qualification is quite high for that job or i was the one and only applicant, but who cares, i'm in.
this is my first employment in the it area,so i'm quite exited, even its mostly an administrative position. i gonne administrate the vm's for some websites and a special portal for students.
but! due to the fusion of two faculties at my university, there will also be two websites to be merged( our is on zope/plone and the other is a typo3) (computer science vs media... no really^^
well, now i have to wait for the doodle for the first meeting -
I'm a big fan of indo western fusion music.. This is one track you must hear.. Worth it, I promise

There is program called autodesk fusion 360 and those nutcrackers who made it. Did so that no matter how manny cores your computer got it only runs on ONE! Frustrating!!
-
I'm doing the thread again; post music to code to. I'll go first with 8-bit influenced jazz fusion band Sungazer:

Would you recommend PHP-fusion for linking a CMS to my website? And why? I have no experience with CMS, just front-end stuff.2
