In web technologies lab.
Friend copied some php code from some website and saved it.
Tries to run it and it just prints whatever he wrote.
After thinking for like half an hour he calls me.
Friend: hey u know php right? Why my code is not running?
I check the code in the editor and everything looks fine except he saved his php code with an extension .txt 😑 😑2 -
Head of department: Do we have license key for ubuntu os on our systems?

Everyone else: No!!! It is open source
*awkward silence*

Being forced to migrate an application written to to run on Solaris 9, which uses Sun ONE Webserver, Netscape LDAP Server and Cold fusion and migrate it to RHEL 7.3 ppc64le before the 3rd of January (I was only told about the project this morning), and I'm told I *have* to use the exact same technologies and versions. I'm on leave for Xmas from the 22 until the 5th of Jan. I know exactly where they can put their arbitrary management deadlines.2

Okay so i graduated last year and got a job working for a place that sadly disappoints me in their web development practices. This place uses a dead technology(my opinion)called Cold Fusion by Adobe. They do not use any form of version control like Git and their sites are very shitty and the design and development is implemented very poorly honestly. It honestly makes me sad that i feel like im smarter than my department vp. That being said i do not feel challenged here and am looking to collaborate in some open source projects via Github preferably.I dont consider myself an expert in this field but i would say im about intermediate level in web development. Im pretty comfortable with HTML,CSS/SASS,PHP,JS/JQuery, and im pretty comfortable in the PHP framework Laravel. So if anyone is interested in collaborating or starting something up, id be so down for it. :)5

Ever had that meeting where it's expected that you will solve cold fusion, catch rainbows and violate the laws of thermodynamics? Just because you are an expert in your field?
Also beautifully demonstrated here:

When HR tries to appoint tasks to developers, this happens.
P.S. The repo has basic hello world Android app files.

How to get funding for your startup in India?
Just sprinkle a little bit of blockchain on your project idea. Done 😂😂 -
Every time I read the abbreviation for Cold Fusion Markup Language, my brain translates it to this:
CFML -> C?! F*ck my life!! -
I'm in a dilemma.
I started this job about 9 months ago and it's really not what I expected. I'm the sole developer in my department that handles applications built around our customer database.
Well it's pretty boring and there is a lot of technical debt with the source code since usually 1-2 people are taking care of it so they never had proper conventions. And we have super old applications running on legacy solutions like cold fusion 🤢
I also receive a lot of problem tickets that never contain enough information to actually do anything and the people don't realize I have no idea what they do or what their business processes are.
The upside is I'm paid very very well for this job > 100 in a place where cost of living is cheap. And when there's no work to do I can work on side projects.
It's really not fulfilling work and idk if I should stick it out. I also don't know where I would head next. There's not very many companies working on cool stuff. Maybe remote work?
Anyone else have a similar story?6 -
I don't hate ubuntu but I really feel that deepin is what ubuntu should have been.
When I was new to the linux world (maybe I am a new still), whenever I used to ask someone about linux Os, they used to tell me to install ubuntu.
But the ui was not that appealing. Deepin is what I should have installed and I would have ditched windows long ago. I know there are many distros, maybe better than deepin but deepin looks and feels good and is easy to use. The deepin store is awesome.

I fixed a bug properly... Took down an entire application systems, sometimes you just gotta monkey patch that shit.
So it was a 15 year old cold fusion system and chrome had deprecated some window pop up feature, so I tracked it to the shared function that triggered this, fixed it there, tested it and even got it all past qa.
Turned out some of the other modules on the app had some other logic around this that made it not work there, they had implemented the fallback check without any fallback logic.
Time to rollback a 3 week sprint...1 -
The small company I work for has FINALLY decided to start moving towards the MEAN stack, in which I was overly thrilled! However they have started to regress because "cold fusion is so much easier to write"
-
Any ColdFusion devs in here? I've been plying with it for a while; Nice Java framework, quick to deploy. Feels like it could struggle under high request volumes though..?2
-
I LOVED cold fusion. However because of the yearly cost associated with it no one uses it anymore so it's hard to find resources when I run into issues.2
