Manager: I want the front ends to be more dumb, too much logic is happening on the frontend.
Me: both of the sites are just multi step forms, I’m confused about the complexity part.
Manager: yea but don’t we have a bunch of third party api calls?
Me: we have 4 and they are public facing apis.
Manager: yea, make a new api and move this api calls to the backend and I want both frontend teams to send the same shape payload.
Me: but…
Manager: oh and I don’t like how the business team does the a/b testing and splitting traffic, let’s move that to the backend as well.
Me: but… that a/b testing platform they use in ran by another team and they have a full set of features for business analytics…
Manager: yea let’s just replicate those features and move them to the backend.
Me: but it’s a product!
Manager: look! You are the best backend engineer we got! I know you can do this!
Me: I lead the frontend teams…
Manager: ….
Manger: good news we are giving you a promotion with raise you are now a senior engineer.
Me: I confused but happy… I think..9 -
I've caught the efficiency bug.
I recently started a minimum wage job to get my life back in order after a failed 2 year project (post mortem: next time bring more cash for a longer runway)
I've noticed this thing I do at every job, where I see inefficiency and I think "how can I use technology to automate myself out of this job?"
My first ever application was in C++ for college (a BASIC interpreter) and it's been so long I've since forgotten the language.
But after a while every language starts to look like every other language, and you start to wonder if maybe the reason you never seriously went anywhere as a programmer was because you never really were cut out for it.
Code monkey, sure. Programmer? Dunno, maybe I just suffer from imposter syndrome.
So a few years back I worked at a retail chain. Nothing as big as walmart, but they have well over 10k store locations. They had two IBM handscanners per store, old grungy ugly things, and one of these machines would inevitably be broken, lost or in need of upgrade/replacement about once a year, per location. District manager, who I hit it off with, and made a point of building report with, told me they were paying something like $1500 a piece.
After a programming dry spell, I picked up 'coding' with MIT app inventor. Built a 'mostly complete' inventory management app over the course of a month, and waited for the right time.
The day of a big store audit, (and the day before a multi-regional meeting), I made sure I was in-store at the same time as my district manager, so he could 'stumble upon' me working, scanning in and pricing items into the app.
Naturally he asked about it, and I had the numbers, the print outs, and the app itself to show him. He seemed impressed by what amounted to a code monkeys 'non-code' solution for a problem they had.
Long story short, he does what I expected, runs it by the other regionals and middle executives at the meeting, and six months later they had invested in a full blown in house app, cutting IBM out of the mix I presume.
From what I understand they now use the app throughout the entire store chain.
So if you work at IBM, sorry, that contract you lost for handscanners at 10k+ stores? Yeah that was my fault (and MIT app inventor).
They say software is 'eating the world' but it really goes to show, for a lot of 'almost coders' and 'code monkeys' half our problem is dealing with setup and platform boilerplate. I think in the future that a lot of jobs are either going to be created or destroyed thanks to better 'low code' solutions, and it seems to be a big potential future market.
In the mean while I've realized, while working on side projects, that maybe I can do this after all, and taken up Kotlin. I want to do a couple of apps for efficiency and store tracking at my current employer to see if I'm capable and not just an mit app-inventor codemonkey after all.
I'm hoping, by demonstrating what I can do, I can use that as a springboard into an internal programming position at my current gig (which seems to be a company thats moving towards a more tech oriented approach to efficiency and management). Also watching money walk out the door due to inefficiency kinda pisses me off, and the thought of fixing those issues sounds really interesting. At the end of the day I just like learning new technologies, and maybe this is all just an excuse to pick up something new after spending so long on less serious work.
I still have a ways to go, but the prospect of working on B2B, and being able to offer technological solutions to common and recurring business needs excites the hell out of me..as cringy and over-repeated as that may sound.7 -
Juste before the smartphone explosion (~2008), I was working on a virtual machine for Windows Mobile, Symbian, Android 1.0, and basically every feature-phone of the time.
The VM (coded on good ol' C) would interpret a bunch of HTML, JS, CSS files (more or less like a browser) to run some tiny widgets above the phone's UI, basically allowing us to make multi-platform, custom UIs for low-end phones.
Everything was coded from scratch (except the JS engine which was a fork of SpiderMonkey), the VM could run multiple instances of itself, took around ~2MB of RAM to run (the exe contained everything in 1MB).
Oh, and we were a team of 3 beginner developers.
Fun times, no sleep times ❤️
EDIT: wow, the website is still alive O_o http://viamobility.com/4 -
I just felt like Google is the best player out there in terms of Companies.
Seriously, Well played Google.
This is not a negative opinion, I am just awe-struck at its tactics.
See, Google is currently the biggest name in terms of development in Android, ML and multi-platform software but no one can say it being a monopoly due to its dedication to open source community.
Recently Android emerged out to be One of the Biggest , most advanced, trusted and loved Technology . It saw great achievements, and up till 2016-17, it was at its peek. BUT when the market started shifting towards multi-platform boons and Ai, it got its hands into that too with its flutter and kotlin environment
One could have a negative opinion about this, But i can't seem to engulf the vast amounts of positive situations i see in this:
1) this IO18 (and many months before that) saw ML/AI being incorporated in Android (also the arcore, proje tango and many more attempts in the past) meaning that Android will not officially "die". It will just become an extremely encouraged platform( not just limited to mobiles) and a beginning of the robot -human reality ( a mobile is handling everything of your everyday life: chats, music apps sxhedules, alarms, and with an actively interacting ML, it won't be long when Android comes installed in a green bug lime droid robot serving you tea xD). Meanwhile the market of Windows games may shift to mobiles or typically " Android games" (remember, Android won't be limited to mobiles)
2)java may or may not die. The animations and smooth flow it seems to provide is always appreciated but kotlin seems to do so too. As for the hard-core apps, they are usually written in c++ .So java is in the red zone
3) kotlin-native and Flutter will be the weapons of future , for sure. they will be developing multi-platform softwares and will be dividing the market of softwares into platform specific softwares(having better ml/ai interactions, animations) and platform independent apps(access and use anywhere softwares).
And where does google stand? Its the lord varys of game of thrones which just supports and enhances the people in the realm. So it benefits the most . That's a company for you, ladies and gentlemen! If seen from common eyes they seem to be the best company ever and our 1 true king but it can also be a very thick fur cloak hiding their negetive policies and tactics , if any.
Well played, Google.16 -
chrome

>too edgy for me, not multi platform
vivaldi
>whats the point runing a skin on top of chrome
brave
>same as vivaldi, also I can install my fucking adblock myself
Any suggestions for other browsers27 -
So I'm still new to programming. Mind blown every day learning python. Although self learning does get confusing sometimes. Somehow I'm learning pen testing now and already installed Kali on a virtual box. Pretty sure I aimed at making a multi platform mobile app to begin with.... Yep, from Kivy to changing Mac addresses, am I lost? Or this is the way to dive in?4

Multi-continent low-latency auto-scaling eventually-consistent kubernetes-orchestrated and spark-powered multi-cloud data-plarform.
(Note to self: why do jargon words always come in twos?)
But seriously, the engine ELT's naval and logistical data from every continent and ocean and feeds a global analytics platform for less then 0.25 USD per ingested Gb across all systems.
And sometimes the PODs are even onboard en-route ships! Edge computing, y'all!
Tech project I'm most proud of.2 -
Yesterday I told an intern that was supposed to be shadowing me that he'll need to download visual studios with apache Cordova plugin for multi platform app design. I gave this assignment to him first thing in the morning (around 9:30 am) and told him to head home for the day thinking I was giving the kid a break to download and make sure the build was proper and to play around with it maybe. I check my inbox this morning to find that, alongside numerous expletives, this intern has quit as of 3:40 AM last night. I... I didn't see that one coming.4

🔥👽🤘🏻
I've been CRUSHING it lately, so stoked!!!
**Also, this means that in the near future something will crush me because I have a few subjects on deck I need to lock down.
1. Deno
2. TypeScript(deep dive)
3. CPP (currently 75% done with my 2nd masterclass, first one complete)
4. Multi-platform local device storage (Sqflite/mongoDB/shared preferences/Hive)
5. REST/api/requests/json management && application
6. Implementing Firebase authentication using Apple, Twitter, and mobile OTP
7. Cloud functions && server scripting/automation
8. Intro to embedded systems/OS/kernels
9. Steadily improve my code style, design strategies, and build patterns that are team friendly && provide easier code base maintainibilty
10. Influence, teach, and/or spark the interest of someone new to development in any possible- all that matters is getting new people on board, making sure they are stoked about, and last but not least making sure they feel welcome in the community and are able to start off in the right direction.
cheers, ya fockers!!!!

Asked our developers to build a site framework that can scale globally for all our brands.
Tell them to start with these 3 brands
They tell me they will use Drupal for the base, fair enough, i did pick them as they listed ex extensive drupal skills on their resume
Let them work on it, then time comes to deliver and I get handed 3 completely separate drupal sites that are just simply 3 individual commerce Kickstart sites with some really bad themes applied.
Asked what the fuck this is and get told that 'multi-site was too difficult and' is still a goal platform /framework because you can run multiple Drupal sites on one server.'
These people were hired and their resumes said things like' drupal multi-site developer'
Needless to say I get to hire the devs now.2 -
I have procrastinated for four days straight. I have done nothing of what I should have done.
I've never been more productive though. Wrote a multi-platform SamacSys library-loader clone in Rust. I haven't written any documentation yet as that's about as boring as the stuff I have to actually do. 🙃

Pole!
What language would you use for:
Native windows
Multi platform
Android
Android + iOS.
Web apps (frameworks)
Requirements:
Local database (wich one btw)
Gui
Easy to learn.
For me, well I'm not good at any language now... Was preety good at visual basic 6 back in the day and stopped codding for years.
I'm looking at python with kivy for multi platform (all... And I mean all, even blackberry) but I just can't get the shit to work for multiscreens... Due to my lack of knowledge on how to andle children (but love kids)....
Also droidscript and kotlin for Android but both are limitimed to android (as far as I know, don't know if kotlin have gui for windows /mac/Linux)
Also front end web for one project I'm working on9 -
Question for devs who work in large multi-team environments:
A) What is your code review process like? Does a senior review it once and then it's off to QA or do you have "levels" of approval?
B) If you're launching a feature that depends on another team how are you coordinating it? Do you just talk over a ticket and then hit merge and deploy at the same time or like what's your process like?
C) What CI/CD tool do you use? Also what code hosting platform do you use? Github/GItlab/etc.
D) Are you currently happy with the CI tool you're using? If not what are some common issues you're facing?3 -
It's been awhile, for the heads up I'm that good dude applied a job as MIS few months ago, knows a little bit python and the manager finds out, he told me I gotta make a Warehouse Management Software for the company in C# PLUS MIS regular work(server management, user trouble-shooting and stuff).
after I finish my Warehouse Management Software about a week ago, my manager told me which I quote:
"wpf is not enough! we gonna bring it to multi platform like a web interface can be use on employee's phone as barcode reader and do things can be done as wpf can.
aaaaand we need RFID integration for the whole system working with Identity Server on Azure.
AAAAAAND we need it online before Feb 2020."
I guess after C#,
I'm learning typescript and angular now.
oh by the way my position is MIS with MIS salary.
Does this means after all these shits. I can apply as RD my next job right?2 -
emacs, git and a decent shell like bash with at least gnutools
emacs, because I was searching for the right editor for years
- multi-platform
- extensible
- ready to type (no fucking mode change for typing like vim)
- programming functions like auto indenting, syntax highlight, auto complete, etc.)
- multiple windows in any arrangement
Additionally
- it is completely programmable to do anything you want
- you can find a solution to most common development needs on the web
git, because
- it is usable from small personal projects to heavy duty development
- fast branching and checking out, switching between different workpaths within seconds
- basic version control offline, you only need to be online for remote consolidation
- you don't have to think much about structure from the beginning, if in doubt just commit and your work is saved, then arrange the result when you're ready
sh/bash-like shell with gnutools, because
- simple tools do their job and try not to be smarter than the user
- tools can be combined in any possible and impossible variants
- powerfull scripting (although sh-syntax is often annyoing)
- open as many shells as needed, no single-instance problem as with some GUI-tools
- extensible with gazillions of other tools
And best of all, all these tools are available on all widely used desktop OS. -
So here's why I'm irritated ,
Day 1:I got a call from a company about an internship from a mutual contact they wanted to build an Zomato kind of application for retailers the person asked me to do it in react native which i didnt know and so I said i have experience with Android development i can do it in android he wanted a multi platform based development well i said i could learn but i haven't work on such a big project I'm still a student I'm a freshers so i didn't have the confidence to say yes so he gave me two day to make up my mind.
Day 2: I called him back i said I'm ready to develop the application I'll learn like crazy but i wont miss out on this opportunity so he was like we are not interested in react anymore we are thinking about going android and ios native I'm like great that i can work with but he shifts to I'm still thinking about flutter as well I'm like I know a lil flutter i had attended few conferences in it he asked can you brush up and I'll call you up tomorrow .
Day 3 : so he called me today and was ya so did you brush I'm like yes I'm ready to start working i need to work on my dart but as an expected internship I'll work on the development as I learn I'm totally in he said how long would it take I said I'm not confident 2,3 weeks but i could definitely provide you with what you want I'll work my ass off .He says fine then learn flutter first get back to me then we will think about it . I'm like ahhhhhh
So please what did i do right what did i do wrong can anyone please tell I'm a noob i need to learn a lot of things would appreciate your feedback
What should have i done here?7 -
C- let's See
C is a procedurally developed language follows sequential method of solving a problem.
Example
If a teacher of an Institute teaching various subjects, Maths, English, Science and History.
Case1.One student comes and asks teacher to teach English
and next student to teach Maths,
And the other to teach History.
Case2.Next students comes for English
Case3.Other one for History.
So what I understood regarding C is procedural language is
It completes first case1,next case2, and then case3. (Task after task)
Here English is taught 2 times seperate
And History too 2 times separately making time and process complexity.
C is a platform based high level language support only desired platform. If I program in windows with i3 processor , it runs only on the same OS and Processor, if code is run in other computers.
Single threaded, if a code is interrupted in between, stops there and doesn't allow other part of the code to run.
Java
In this if the same above cases encountered then and tell
Computer to create a Class of English and tell all the students to attend the class(time saving, No complexity and not repetitive)
Same way Creating History class and make all students attend the class at once.
Students may be the objects created.
Multi threaded language, if a task is interrupted following code cannot be stopped. Allows other part of thecode to run.
JVM- Java virtual machine allows Java code into signs that can be understood by computer. Where as C converts into binary code.
A class concept added to C language become C++rant support rant learning to code want to code jvm newbie asking high level languages are cool discussions java c mistakes3 -
Sigh...this is kinda stupid.
I'm getting a new ThinkPad at work after 4 years. At first I was like "oh yeah...a new machine!". But they are replacing my quad core T540p with a dual core T560. The T560 CPU has a 30-40% less multi core benchmark score (surprise).
So...dear IT: We are not a small 50ppl company that builds some console apps or small shiny hipster web sites. We are developing fucking large business applications with dozens of projects. Our IDEs and our compiler platform are benefiting from raw CPU power and multiple cores. So can I pls not getting A FUCKING DOWNGRADE AFTER >4 YEARS FFS? THANK YOU!
(before anyone asks: keeping the current notebook is not an option because of warranty/support contracts)5 -
hey guys
what's main difference between cross-platform and multi-platform?
and whats main difference between kotlin multiplatform and ReactNative?
i am familiar with both kotlin and NodeJS, What is your suggestion for build a app for ios and android?6 -
Got mixed feelings about dart/flutter 😕
On one hand, I find it very easy to work with and very fast for prototyping. Everything is smooth once you compile it.
On the other hand, I keep running into weird as shit bugs and missing functionality. The bugs are primarily related to iOS, so that might not entirely be their fault. Last one required me to delete the entire project and rebuild it, the clean command didn't work shit.
It's quite annoying that so many features are missing, but I guess that's life, when you try to work with a multi platform language...1 -
Hey guys.
So, where do you guys store your passwords?
It's getting hard to keep track of so many logins and passwords now that I have the time to learn, try new stuff, meddle with VPS and shit and I can't keep track of everything.
Ps: must save somewhere online (or at least backups) and be multi platform (windows + Linux + Android9 -
Hey guys...
Looking for a Framework or language that has:
- multi-platform (Windows + Android minimum)
- Easy to design GUI
- Native
- Can use file databases like SQLite
- Can use serial, BT, Wi-Fi to send-receive data.
I already used Python + Kivy but I think there must be easier frameworks for this...21 -
Native Android Java/Kotlin I got covered but I need to go multi platform mobile. Your choice, why and why not?...
- React native
- Flutter
- Adobe Air
- phoneGap/Cordova
- Xamarin
- another?12 -
Reversed a TSOP programmer software that only ran with Win2K (due buggy HID handling) and rewrote to run multi platform :)

Hi, I'm a full stack developer. I want, with a friend of mine, to develop a multi platform mobile game. It will have online matches, a scoreboard, a shop. Something like "clash of clans" or any other online game.
I read about unity, phaser, unreal engine and many others technologies I have never used ... But I don't know which one to choose and start learning. Do you have any advice? Any articles, guide about game dev? Someone who was in my situation has suggestions, or just tell his story?1 -
why this fucking nvidia has to come up with its lady drama, ffs mf fragile egoistic gpu.
Fucking EGLStream. Also fuck GBM API, nothing works. shitfuck shit.
There's no way I can have a multi gpu hotswapping with wayland?? are you retardedly crazy bitch ass nvidia. I am tired of this shit.
Why do I have to rely on some other platform? I paid for what? fuciking nothing. This is absurdly fucking trash2 -
I was tasked with reviving this mobile app purchased off the shelf. Initially, I was impressed with what I was seeing while perusing the codebase. I'm used to editing laravel projects written by handpicked amateurs. So this felt like a breath of fresh air. Coupled with the fact that I'd recently enquired on this very platform whether anyone has chanced upon an impressive code. All is going well, until
I start finding the multi layers of abstraction and indirection cryptic and obfuscatory; and that is coming from an idealist like me who advocates for "clean" patterns such as event emission. I wonder whether it would have helped if the emission or events were typed for easy listener tracking, instead of a black hole like vm.notifyListeners() (DOESN'T EVEN HAVE AN EVENT NAME!)
With time, I become disgusted by the tons of custom elements with so many parents
My take on production level user of the view model pattern: amazing in theory
One of the architectural decisions made on this project that had me foaming in the mouth, pulling my hair and cursing out the author's generations, past, present and future: can you believe these guys are APPENDING IMAGE DOMAINS TO THE RESOURCE? Ie the domain names are tightly coupled to the images and dictated by the api, instead of the client
If this isn't bad enough, the field names of returned entities/models don't exist on the database, of course because the stupid laravel framework abets this sort of madness by combining eloquent "scopes, attributes, and appends". A trifecta of horrors.
I eventual scaled through the horrors, but not without losing my admiration for the team behind it. App has returned to the shelves, because my company lost patience with my resuscitating it. They have the regular api authentication in place, but that's not good enough. They just had to integrate firebase as well, just because. Meanwhile, this isn't documented anywhere. I stumbled into it during my scuffle with app setup, gradle ish. Eventually got banned by firebase for "sending unusual requests". My company's last straw -
LOL XCode....I think they meant "X"tra useless, resembling such as a bag of dicks without handles!!!!
Also, being fucking buried because there's aren't any devs anywhere to be found near me makes me extra cranky!
Ive been hammering away at this Flutter, Java, Swift, Python, and Google maps for just about 36 hours on 3.5 hrs sleep. I just can't stop, I fuckin love this shit!!!
Considering the fact that I'm self taught and just started writing code for real about 7 months ago, I'd say I'm handling this alright for now. Every bit of tech is getting shot out of a cannon at this one- maps, real time tracking, state level auth/Id verification, custom components like ID scans/native desktop applications on custom linux machines, body cams, SIP trunking... all in 3 apps which are 100% multi-platform and scaled up to high end enterprise levels and being groomed for national release. I'm writing the code and doing the tech for ALL of it- even down to custom painted barcode scanners, a wallet system built from scratch, GPS integration, location/geofence based document querying... holy fuck guys I'm gonna fuckin die haha!!!
I went from barely getting websites made in late summer to this very moment, where I am pumping shit out in Flutter, Dart, Python, CPP, Js, Swift, Java, Kotlin, Obj-C, SQL/noSQL, and who knows what else.
I don't even know what the hell I just said haha I hope everyone has a great day! -
So I'm trying to see if Python adds language features that are easier to use in Linux for quick purposes like converting a raster to sectional image files and compressing them.
Trying to make this multi platform.
So the question then becomes, since I have a testing build location so as not to fuck up my host system, how do I point PyCharm to the python bindings AND the installed lib in its custom location ?
See this kind of setup information is something that would make getting started with things like this much easier and quicker.
Can't tell me there isn't a purpose for this. This seems like a reasonable use-case.9 -
Question for data science people. Do you know some good multi purpose self tracking platform? Something like exist.io but more advanced? I want to setup custom tracking

I lost my cryptocurrency worth $308,000 investment in a platform that promised astronomical returns. I found a group specializing in crypto recovery after surfing through the net, Wizard James Recovery, who traced the flow of their coins across the blockchain and froze the wallets holding the funds before the scammers could liquidate them. The team secured access to a portion of the investor's assets, proving that $285,260 worth of Bitcoin was recoverable. The team turned a nightmare into a second chance in my life, fighting to make things right in a world full of thieves. The investor's art collective's multi-sig wallet hemorrhaged $308,000 in Bitcoin, and their studio fell silent. A blockchain dev tagged their graffiti wall with Solidity snippets, suggesting they contact Wizard James Recovery Services. Within hours, Wizard's team diagnosed a flaw in the withdrawal function, tracing the forgeries and changing the locks. The investor's studio became a war room, but the funds returned, and the art collective's installations thrived. All thanks to Wizard James Recovery Service. Below is their contact details.

I never imagined I would fall victim to an online scam, but that’s exactly what happened. It started innocently enough. I was on a popular social media platform, browsing through posts when I received a direct message from someone claiming to be a “financial expert.” Their pitch seemed solid, and their promises of quick returns on investments seemed too good to pass up. I did my research—or so I thought—but it wasn’t long before my trust led me into a trap. I made an initial deposit to start the investment, and things moved quickly. The first few days were filled with regular updates and even small returns, which convinced me that I was onto something big. But then, the messages started to change.
