Joined a new company...
It's been a week since I joined.I feel like shit.
There are over 20 employees, however I didn't had a chance to chat with a single person for more than a minute or two. Not a single meaningful or even a shitty but personal conversation. I'm trying to strike up conversations whenever I can, but there are no possibilities to do so. I think they have a few chat groups where I'm not added. At lunch time they suddenly start running to a guy that gathers the money to buy lunch, i saw that and joined, but I'm 99% sure they are communicating/speaking on some kind of chat.

I joined as a front-end developer, however I'm not sure if I'm a junior or whatever here. On the first day they showed me the system, they are using PHP and jquery + es6, the structure is messy and I'm not used to it It should be MVC-like, but messier, but it's not like anything I have seen. I usually work with opencart / cakePHP style systems. There are js files with a lot of custom funcions and sometimes there are functions that have mixed jquery and es6 inside script tags top or bottom of the view files. There are a lot of code that I don't understand, on the third day they gave me a task - to remodel a view (basically one page in the cms) I did it, but they didn't check up on me untill the next day, I gave them some notes on the task I finished, and I started making some of the code easier to read for myself after I was done. They didn't really gave me a new task, and I don't know what to do, don't have anyone to ask about what to do, because there are only 2 developers here, and the other guy is on vacation. The boss is also a coder, but he's never here and I feel like I shouldn't be asking him stupid coding questions, because you know.. He's a boss. I understand a lot more of their PHP code then their js/jquery. I feel like I'm stupid and I don't know what I am doing here and what I will be doing here in the future. I did move across the country to join this company, and if this won't work out i have a rent contract signed for a year. Today I was looking at the clock for the last 2 hours of the work day and waiting untill I could get out of there. To say that I feeling like shit would be an understatement.

I don't have anyone whom I could ask for coding advice outside of the company. Fuck.I have worked in a few companies before, but there was always an introduction to the staff, and or the working environment and usually there was a person that I could ask questions on the regular. This company is bigger however and I'm not an emotional guy whatsoever, but I feel like I will start crying.

So started job hunting and stumbled upon this
1. Skill required in PHP, Laravel, CakePHP, Wordpress, Opencart.

2. Bootstrap, CSS3 and HTML5 experience preferred.

3. JQuery, Vue.js, Angular.js, JavaScript, AJAX, HTML experience highly preferred.

and will pay 8000Rs/Month (112.88 USD)

Do they even know what they want? and at what cost they want to hire?

the most popular ecommerce solution in php is a massive (cosmological scale) pile of corporate crap (magento) and the next most popular is an abomination (opencart)
after fucking around with both for a month (the client asked for the project to be using only one of the two) I'm still barely reaching any results, and most of my time is wasted with the stupid bloated spaghetti that is opencart FUCK THIS,
like seriously. who the fuck writes a single line three left joins sql querry with four or five aliases a couple concacts and a bunch sorting fuckeries just to query the categories list, then just query the details of the specific category from a different function,
also why the fuck map each language string manually. or the fucking hardcoded seo urls, or the use of myisam for all tables, and no fucking foreign keys, let that settle for a minute, no foreign keys, the delete method in the model has at least a twenty lines, and then he came with the genius idea of duplicating models, in the front and the backend, accessing the same data, as the same user, but different naming conventions

I'm going to convince him to use something sane like codeigniter/laravel/fuelphp or I'll deny the project

Looking for ideas here...

OK, customer runs a manufacturing business. A local web developer solicits them, convinces them to let him move their website onto his system.

He then promptly disappears. No phone calls, no e-mail, no anything for 3 months by the time they called me looking to fix things.

Since we have no access to FTP or anything except the OpenCart admin, we agree to a basic rebuild of the website and a redeployment onto a SiteGround account that they control. Dev process goes smoothly, customer is happy.

Come time to launch and...naturally, the previous dev pointed the nameservers to his account, which will not allow the business to make changes because they aren't the account owner.

"We can work around this," I figure, since all we *really* need to do is change the A records, and we can leave the e-mail set up as it is (hopefully).

Well, that hopefully is kind of true—turns out instead of being set up in GoDaddy (where the domain is registered) it's set up in Gmail—and the customer doesn't know which account is the Google admin account associated with the domain. For all we know it could be the previous developer—again.

I've been able to dig up the A, MX, and TXT records, and I'm seeing references to dreamhost.com (where the nameservers are at) in the SPF data in the TXT records. Am I going to have to update these records, or will it be safe to just leave them as they are and simply update the A record as originally planned?

Magento vs opencart?

Working on an opencart eccommerce site I built in 2011... What the fuck was I doing?
Pushing the company to go for and upgrade / rebuild so I can clean it all up.
It was my first online shop AND my first opencart project... But even so... It's scary to look at. Works great, but the code layout is making me twitch.

Here's a story about why putting util functionality in a generic parent class is baaaad. So we run into a bug where an online shop module we develop causes a third party module to break the entire site until the session expires.

We track the bug down to the fact that the third party module has added some functionality to the part of the shop that deals with the cart and that functionality expects that one of the module's libraries is initialized. But as it turns out another of that module's libraries that is loaded earlier is fetching the cart and thus triggers our module which adds gifts to it.

Now, since we need a deeper integration with the cart to make gifts depend on the cart contents we call the part of it that now depends on the third party module's unloaded library.. So we think changing the order the third party libraries are loaded will fix the issue, only to discover the unloaded one is a child class of the first and the cart is fetched in the parent constructor. The parent of course then turns out to be a generic util class, inherited by all the module's libraries, so whatever order we load them in, the constructor is always called, so we had no other choice but to dynamically disable our module during the initialization of those libraries and then patch the updated cart contents into them after they've all been initialized.

At this point we get curious what that module's doing with the cart contents only to discover.. nothing. It's just that the parent class is full of utils and data fetching that the vendor reuses in all their modules..

What is everyones opinions on declaring class constructors as 'final'?
Could use some feedback experience, pros/cons?

I'm building a hobby MVC-like framework inspired by OpenCart, where the default controller method is "index" rather then "__construct"

Keep in mind i'm only writing code towards the latest supported PHP versions, so PHP4 style constructors are not of concern.

Does anybody here developing Opencart module using Git, I am just curious how the workflow looks like

Best way to approach updatable custom cms?
I currently have to work with an old cakePHP 1.3 cms tailored for a specific customers. The guy I'm doing development for wants to upgrade and move to another framework and create a new cms. Because this is such a niche specific cms we want to add ability to update the cms from the admin panel, over the air - there are 70-100+ websites at all times up and running and updating them manually is not viable. And probably have modules that would be separate but easily installable from the admin panel. Whats the best approach here? Any good examples already working in the wild? First thing that popped into my mind is opencart with the ocmod for custom mods, the problem being updates for it.
