I'm fairly certain my boss'.....boss (didn't want to count them.. it's high up the chain, and slightly lateral) thinks I'm incredibly weird. I have too many sports injuries to be fully functional and they all flare up while I'm sitting at my desk. To offset this, I stand up or walk around while on the phone, and occasionally stretch.
These stretches are for hip and it band, usually, which are a bit more involved, so of course he ONLY fucking walks into the damn office while I'm stretching. (Image search for hip stretch).
To top it off, I have an unfortunate colored ointment for the pain in my elbow that i was applying today while stretching, and im scared to know what he was thinking before he realized what was actually going on. Imagine hip stretching (this one with leg on desk) while rubbing milky sort of clear ointment into skin...
Sir, if you're reading this, I promise I'm not actually that weird at work, you just have shitty timing.5 -
I’m pretty terrible at soldiering and small electronics in general, but I’m kind of okay with how this turned out.
Back story:
That helmet is my sister-in-law’s, she drives a polaris slingshot. (It’s technically a motorcycle here in the US because it has three wheels.) and she hooked up some EL wire to her helmet and the larger black rectangle in the picture is what the battery pack looked like before. (It takes two AA batteries.) and doesn’t have anyway to recharge them natively.
I did some research and found a neat little charging board (TP4056) and got her a small single cell li-ion battery for it. Now it’s not only less than half the length of the original, but it has a rechargeable battery and a charging circuit built in. The battery is 500mAh and lasts about 65-70mins on a charge. Personally, I feel like that’s not a good enough battery life on a charge, but my sis-in-law says that her and her slingshot friends usually only run with the EL lights on for 30 minute stretches at time so they should be able to get two to three uses before needing a recharge. Which btw, only takes about 35-40 minutes from completely dead.
The box looks like shit cause I literally hacked away at the original casing with a pocket knife and then crammed all the pieces back in and hot-glued the casing together. But I took measurements of the final-ish design and will try to find a small electronics box that will be able to house everything internally. (L: 1-3/4” W: 1-1/4” H: 1-1/4”)

When you push and PM (whose understanding of git stretches to git.length == 3) pushes 20 minutes later overwriting all of your changes and refuses to acknowledge their mistake (s).

!dev,
I have a baby. He doesnt like sleeping. He has GERD (reflux).
He rarely sleep more than 2 hours at a time (probably 1 a week).
The best he has ever slept in his 11month of living was 5 hours. That day he was sick and he ended up in hospital.
All good, he is still alive and well.
But he goes down at 7pm and wakes every 2 hours if not less.
Somestimes he is easy to put down and thongs are bearable, but many times it can take up to 30-45 minutes to out him down.
I dev during the day but i am longing to have nights where i can completly concrntrate. But my partner has been survivjng on broken sleep for about a year now.
She lets me have longer stretches but i either stay up late and havr to feed the baby and jiggle him, which breaks concentration and has pbliged me to get an extra desk and screento be put into an uncomfortable place so i could code at home (my orfice is a rent out 10msquare batch in the garden).
Or sometimes i just get up at 3 or 4am so that he can sleep on me 2eme i can jiggle him when he wakes.
I cant deal with being woken every 2 hours. I throw tantrums like im a 7 year old.
Ive rarely had such a sucking life quality as now.
Its a good things babies a cute i tell you that!!!!6 -
Literally painful dev learning experience: Do your damn stretches and invest in a good chair.
Spent a couple of months of WFH working eight hours a day in an awful chair and started getting back pain out of the blue. Part of my first paycheck after that went into a decent office chair, in hindsight I should've spent more on it but goddamn what a relief it was not having to spend an entire day in the tiny, back-breaking piece of shit my landlord calls a desk chair.1 -
Me busy coding, trying to hit the dateline.
PM stretches his arm and starts working after getting bored browsing facebook. *Time to get productive
10 mins later. comes to me with a list of changes. To a project I finished last week, saying it's urgent. Have to be done today. He promise the client to fix these Changes by the end of this week. *wow thanks for pilling me with this now
.... one week later. client emailed and question us. On a few of the (PM self initiated ) changes and want us (me) to revert. -.-3 -

...i realized i can actually pattern-match like this (as in, sequence of elements (including "whatever") instead of just head::rest in F#...
...from watching a talk about prolog.
like "wait... prolog can do this when pattern-matching? that seems very useful. i think i tried to do that in F# but it didn't work, which seems stupid... I'm gonna go try it again".
and sure enough =D
i think i really am gonna like F# if i find the time and resolve to break through how its different mode of thinking stretches my brain in ways it hasn't been stretched for a long time =D

So my company wanted a view in view look on their website. So it would look like a black background with a while box in the middle, right?
Well, the devs apparently thought that screens were capped height! On my monitor, the box is less than half the height, but since it stretches the width, the image got larger. So my screen has a scrollbar, and the actually useful part also has a scrollbar, with a shitton of space below!
If that didn't make sense, see crappy drawing of what I see...(painted on Phone). The dashes are the hidden parts that I can't see because of the window!

I keep a blogger for tech notes for programs and settings that were difficult problems or took up a lot of time to find the solution or so I can remember years later if I ever return to those programs. Just in case to save myself and others time. It's kind of like an adventurer's log: I've gone through these stretches of technological wilderness and here are my findings, should one day you happen upon them.3

So, my wife's family has a "no shoes inside the house" rule, what is fine... until you realize that they mean "*no shoes inside the house*" - regardless if you are actually wearing the shoes or if those are in your luggage or something.
So you're supposed to leave all footwear on a shelf on this bench outside their door.
That proved to be tricky when my 10yo twin girls started freaking out that someone was going to steal their prized shoes if we left those outside the house during the night.
It would actually be a risk in our own neighborhood, infested with amazon-package kleptomaniacs, but here we are deep in the country.
Now, I've been to my in-laws place many times, and they absolutely cannot be reasoned with. I wish I could use their stubbornness to train a LLM into relentless compliance with company policy.
So, in order to spare my girls from some of my in-laws paranoia, I've spent some time before we came here rigging up a wifi cam to a facial detection service. (I know I've just exchanged their covid-style paranoia with my own surveillance-state-style paranoia. Those are the times we live in. But i can see the irony)
The server monitors the camera feed and stores the first few seconds before, during and after some face is detected.
I trained a facial rekognition model with our family's faces and had it notify me every time some unknown face appears on camera.
Finally, I've printed a "smile, you are on camera!" sign, taped it over the laces of my tracking boots, and hid the camera (and a powerbank) inside one of the boots.
My daughters were pacified with that solution, my wife laughed out loud with a devilish smile, and my in-laws completely ignored me when I tried to explain it all. Perfect.
The system has been up and running since before christmas. It notified us when some relatives arrived for celebrations and one package delivery - no shoe-related shenanigans. Until this morning.
My daughters have been playing with some neighbor kids, and a couple of those decided to fill their shoes with mud on this new-year morning, as a stupid childish prank.
I know because they kneeled in front of the camera earlier today.
Right when I was finishing up my stretches for the morning... less than 2m away from the door.
The wicked kids looked straight at the camera, and you can actually pinpoint the moment that they realize they have been caught. Then you can see when they hear me unlock the door...
I opened the door to find a bucket full of mud and no soul on sight.
I'm not posting the video, they are minors, after all. But my family is sure to laugh at it every year... and my in-laws will keep on bringing it up with the kids' grandparents forever :)8 -
Without a break this would probably be around 4 hours. After that I just loose all productivity. So there so is really no point in forcing it any further.
For working without sleep I have regular done stretches as long as 32 hours. With just breaks for food and a quick walk around. To keep my body awake.
Why you probably ask yourself, well this has several reasons. For me to get in the "zone" I have to be awake for at least 12 hours. I'm not sure why this is, but the combination of being too tired to get distracted and the increase in dopamine from sleep deprivation. Is I think what makes for this, or by now it might just be a placebo. But well it works for me.
So when a deadline gets near and I'm not going to be able to make it, which used to happen a lot because I used to have a lot of migraines. I would start working in the morning, trying to get things done but not being to able to. Then after a full workday would take a dinner break and get back in the office, at this point I get in the zone and time flies by as I work through the night. Next morning people are coming back in the office and I start another workday.
I try to plan this so I have a lot of meetings or other social work. I get really social and chatty after being awake for more then 24 hours. Because my problem solving skills have really declined after being awake for so long.
Now when I still used to drink, I would after this workday get some dinner and go out to a bar to have drinks with friends. To celebrate me having made my deadline and well I'm really social from being awake so long. And I stop overthinking everything.
Still looking for a way to get in the zone before being awake for so long, so any tips are welcome! -
Windows is not full of surprises. One can expect the (light) blue screen.
(Picture in comments because it stretches like yo mama pussy in the post)6 -

Has there ever been a reason to have a textarea that stretches past 100% width of it's parent? Go ahead and add max-width: 100% to your reset.
-
Unclogging a workflow that stretches > dozen porjects, from building to analysis of build (static / lint check etc.)… Deployment.
It's frustrating.
Touching one thing and everything falls apart.
Thus small changes, fixing the rest of workflow, testing ...
Repeat .
Going now since 1 1/2 weeks. Possibly another or two weeks more.
It is soooooooo boring tedious annoyingly frustrating slowmotion shit

2 days (actually about 4 hours) of battling a stupid CSS grid arrange that wouldn't behave.
Turns out 1fr (aka fill parent) works unless the child is another grid. In that case it forgets and just stretches the freaking parent as if there was no rule whatsoever.
If you have problems with CSS grids, consider trying flattening the markup...3 -
I find it insightful when people actually convert their rant into a knowledge bomb 💣💥😅 https://hackersandslackers.com/flas...
Finally getting to know clear advantages of "application factory" over how Flask apps are usually sugar-coated in scarce tutorials.
This article also points out one of the core problems with Flask documentation and, consequently, a public view on Flask's feature parity with Django.
Ever wondered why it's looked upon as not very strong rival to Django? That's documentation... again, we come to that 😔⌨️🗑 It stretches a lot of commentary and side notes, but forgets to mention best practices from community.rant overlooked patterns where are my blueprints monopoly of django poor documentation tutorial hell make factory great again flask python -
So GitHub's "Repository Refresh" layout is live now and they haven't fixed the damn .repohead (with the repo name and the links to Issues, Pull Requests, etc.) stretchting across the entire screen instead of being constrained to the middle column :/
If it annoys you just as much as it does me, just wack this CSS into a user css extensions and it's fixed:
.repohead .d-flex:first-of-type {
max-width: 1280px !important;
margin-left: auto !important;
margin-right: auto !important;
}
.repohead nav.js-repo-nav {
max-width: 1280px !important;
margin-left: auto !important;
margin-right: auto !important;
}
.repohead .UnderlineNav {
/* Remove repohead bottom divider */
box-shadow: none;
background-color: transparent !important;
}
.repohead {
/* Add repohead bottom divider to repohead so it stretches across the entire screen */
box-shadow: inset 0 -1px 0 #e1e4e8;

Pomodoro technique but with 52min stretches and 15 min breaks.
For avoiding procrastination: create 2 Todo lists every day before leaving work, one for small tasks to be done first thing in the morning and others throughout the day.1 -

Piriformis Stretch: Relieving Tightness and Discomfort
The piriformis muscle is located deep in the buttock region and plays an important role in stabilizing the hip joint. However, when the piriformis muscle becomes tight or inflamed, it can lead to discomfort, pain, and even sciatica-like symptoms. This is commonly known as piriformis syndrome, which can cause pain in the buttocks, hips, or down the leg.
At Aspire Physiotherapy Bunbury, we provide specialized piriformis stretches to help alleviate tightness, relieve pain, and improve flexibility in the hip area. Our physiotherapists will guide you through safe and effective stretching techniques that target the piriformis muscle and surrounding areas. By incorporating piriformis stretches into your routine, you can reduce discomfort, improve mobility, and prevent future flare-ups.

As a truck driver, life on the road can be grueling and exhausting, but during one of those long, tiring stretches, I found myself scrolling through TikTok to pass the time. That’s when I stumbled upon an investment opportunity shared by a friend I met on the platform. It seemed like a great chance to make some extra money, especially with the convenience of managing it from my phone while on the road. Initially, everything appeared legitimate, and I felt confident in my decision to invest. The returns seemed promising, and the communication from the investment company was smooth. However, my experience quickly took a turn for the worse when I attempted to withdraw my funds. After a few attempts to access my earnings, I was told that I needed to deposit more money in order to complete the withdrawal process. At first, I thought it might be a simple mistake or some kind of temporary hold, but as time passed, I began to realize that something wasn’t right. The more I tried to get my money back, the more they insisted that I add additional funds. It became clear that I was caught in a scam. I was left feeling helpless, frustrated, and uncertain about what to do next. Thankfully, my cousin noticed my distress and recommended a service he had heard about ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST. At that point, I was desperate and willing to try anything. I contacted their team, and from the moment I reached out, I was impressed by their professionalism and expertise. They guided me through the entire process of recovering my funds, offering regular updates and clear communication. ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST team worked diligently, navigating the complex process of tracking and retrieving my money from the fraudulent investment platform. Within a relatively short time, I was able to recover every penny I had invested. The service they provided was truly top-notch, and I felt supported throughout the entire ordeal.If you find yourself in a similar situation, struggling to get your money back from a dubious investment, I strongly recommend reaching out to ADWARE RECOVERY SPECIALIST .
