Hi everyone! Sam here, @dfox's gf :) so happy to be talking to you all! Today I will be live-ranting TNW Conference where devRant will be presenting with photos in this thread. Lost my iPhone last night😭 - looked all over but no luck - last chance the gas station - called and the owner said he found a phone with devRant sticker on the back. I still was not sure as lots of devRant members in NY but yes it turned out to be mine. Nice!
And the best news is the gas station owner told his dev son about devRant! So my temporary loss may change his sons life. Sometimes things are just meant to be. 😀

I was talking to my wife about devRant tonight, and that at 20 +'s you get a sticker, and at 300 your get a stress ball, and she said : "Yes you already told me... I guess at 1000 +'s they'll give you a wife".

Servers are not cheap and it would be great if the community would finance itself.
Sure devRant got a Store, but I live in Europe and ordering/shipping is not so cheap, we got huge taxes for it. And I dont wont to order a stressball or sticker every month.

My stickers just arrived. And I especially love the encoding of “ß” within the street name.
German. It's hard.
Next time, just use upper letter and replaced “ß” with “SS” or just use a “B”. The B is especially fine to drive typographers mad.

Why doesnt devRant have small sticker / camera cover?
I think that would be neat. 10/10 would use.2 -
the only thing more difficult than acquisition of a DevRant sticker, is the application of a DevRant sticker. seriously peeling the backing off has just made me type another rant.3

Is the devRant sticker big enough to fully cover my illuminated Mac book apple logo? Is it thick enough to block the light? If so, I may have to get one of those... Not feeling to proud of Apple lately.14

Building a business can hamper one's development urges!
I have been building stuff since 2008. Took my first job in 2012, won a hackathon at Yahoo right after that. Got an amazing team to work with! Our team converted the hacked product into a proper product using Django and AngularJS. Those were the fun days. At that time AngularJS had just come out and I was under the dilemma to use Angular, Ember or backbone. But with all this came the responsibility to build a business out of our product. It didn't happen eventually though.
So I moved on to cure my entrepreneural itch and went on to start up an e-commerce startup along with my day job. It started getting good traction and I finally left my day job to focus completely on it. It's a sticker marketplace and I had to focus a lot on the actual physical product, improve the quality, tackle business development and stuff etc. In all this, my habit of creating stuff with code kind of got the back seat. Everyday, I see such exciting technologies come up and I want to try them out. I have been itching to create a native app using react native. Try to build a skill for Amazon Alexa.
On one side I am happy that I have been able to build a brand and become the largest sticker marketplace in India providing super awesome reusable stickers, but on the other hand, managing the business on a daily basis is killing the developer in me :(
Does anyone else building a business which involves a physical product also face a similar problem? I think I should just take up weekend hackathon type problems and try to solve them using the technologies I want to learn. Example, I have been meaning to build an app for our company. I think I will start with that!

Had to sticker these 2 up. Lenovo was Win 10 and the HP was Ubuntu 16.04. Gave the Lenovo away cos my sis needed a new laptop asap for her work with many clients. Wherever she goes, those two stickers on the Lenovo will be spreading devRant greetings/love. Told her not to take them off. 😁

So, privacy aware dutchies of devRant.
I was waiting for a friend at Utrecht central Station and saw this sticker (image attached).
Basically, by walking in the building with your wifi and / or Bluetooth active, you're giving them consent to track you.
They use the tracking to see where passengers wait for their train and what the popular routes are.
I thought you should know.

New computer! I named it P.E.A.C.H. which is supposed to be an acronym, but I couldn't find a satisfying meaning.

Until now I've never thought of putting stickers on my laptop. Always preferred it to be clean, but with all those cool stickers on all your laptops... It made me wanna put as many stickers as possible and since devRant stickers looked lonely, I've decided to print some of my own. On other side I wantedthem to be useful for me so I grabbed a handful of NFC stickers and designed links and required shortcuts for my phones to run with them on touch. for example if I need a hotspot on my mobile to be activated quickly, I just put my phone against the WIFI sticker and bingo! And yes, devRant logo opens devRant app))

Any thoughts on allowing people to buy their avatars (and others) as stickers? I understand I can just download the pic and get my own made but a built in feature would be cool - it'd be a nice way to say "hey! I really like your rants!"

For some reason my wife was watching me reading away at devrant and then says:

Then she comes back with a ... wait for it ... green yellow striped glitter apple sticker for my webcam.

Exclusive DevRant tutorial.
How to make any sticker you want.
Materials:
Printer;
Double side glue tape;
If (paper != photography)
{
One side clear glue tape
}
Print the logos you want in a piece of paper.
You can use photographic plastic printer paper and only double tape, or for cheaper options simple paper covered with clear tape.
Cut your sticker and your done.
Unfortunately I can't cut straight.

Is it okay for someone to printout their own devRant stickers which includes the devRant logo (this :/)?
I am unable to get the stickers on my own. We don't have international shipping/mailing. But I know a local sticker printing shop which can print one for me. And I really one one for me.9 -
I put my DevRant sticker on my phone's flip cover instead of on my laptop or cat.

my family only look for money.
at my first job finding, i always pushed for find work in Factory/Oil/Goverment that will give a BIG money.
my first reaction to this i tell i won't do that. but overtime i think i will not talk about it again.
i just want to get Dev Job anywhere.
i don't know if this is the meaning of passion or something like that.
but from the first time , i try hard to get job only is software development.
and hey Maybe my Pray Listened by Almighty God.
so i got my first job as Fullstack developer that luckily accept me as self taught software developer. i don't have any formal education.
actually i only learn software dev from Lynda.com(not promotion) .
i learn algorithm, pseudocode . then i got passed the test of psudocode.
Then because the money is good in there. my parent just accept my first job. not complaining again till now..
maybe this is what they called ikigai??
i love software development so much....
but still i always have a Rant every day about it.
