Vertical monitors people... Just tried it for the first time a few days ago; let's say that there's no going back. Why didn't anyone tell me about this before?

Dear management,

I require one vertical monitor for my JS, one vertical monitor for my HTML, one vertical monitor for my CSS, and two stacked ultrawide monitors for testing in browser.

So, now that companies are used to "WFH", maybe we can agree upon a better office for tech companies?

I do actually think the more "ideal" tech company office wouldn't have to be expensive.

It can be smaller. Any tech company worth it's salt should have discovered in the last few months that it's not just devs who can work from home. Sales, support, management — you really don't need to fight your way through highway traffic or cram yourself into a sweaty subway every day.

There's value in having an office. Not everyone can fit a good workspace in their apartment.

But we could at least center it around:

1. A bunch of small, completely soundproof isolation booths, for those who need a focus space, and can't find a silent spot at home.

2. A social lounge space, a communal living room with couches, a bar, creative relaxing stuff, whiteboards, etc. WFH can become depressing even for the most antisocial employees, chilling on a couch with some coworkers to brainstorm ideas or chat about random tech is valuable for building good relationships with your team.

The "open plan office" with rows of desks and monitors, no matter how luxuriously decorated with vertical gardens and hipster desks from reclaimed wood, can go die a fiery painful death.

I either want to work, or socialize.

Open plan offices (and it's even more dystopian suicide-inducing cousin, the cubicle) are like being unable to choose between fucking and a blowjob, so you end up humping a navel.

Oh, and conference rooms, go fuck yourself as well. I want to be able to minimize your ugly face if you plan to talk about company financial reports for 2 hours.

Is vertical monitors "A Thing" nowdays?

Budget setup! Third monitor on the left is waiting for a cable. The bigger monitor is a 27'' that i got for 15€, the vertical one I got for free. Mini itx ryzen setup behind the monitors. Chinese mechanical keyboard with outemu blue switches

- a split keyboard with a touchpad in the middle that will let you control all gestures on a computer

- a set of desk/monitors that adjusts perfectly for ergo for anyone

- a vertical laptop dock that is modular so you can add extra memory/video processing power and only using your laptop as a CPU/secondary graphics card

- a set of kitchenware and plates that would be so easy to clean and would never get stained

-an insect home alarm system that tells you where the fucking insect is so it doesn't take you by surprise/you can call someone to remove it

- a clothing brand that has a buy one gift one operation mechanic, where you buy a shirt and an article is donated to a local charity

- a restaurant

- a simple, yet robust database option that walks users through creating good databases that is super user friendly

- an app that takes tattoo designs in any format, converts them, allows for editing, and then can hook up to a special printer that gives you the transfer you will use on the client

People usually use their phones in portrait mode. People often taking vertical photos and videos. People read books, and every book has portrait pages. Almost every website has unused space on left and right.
But when people see my vertical monitors they all like: oh man, you are weirdo, that's awful and uncomfortable.

Anyone got recommendations on a monitor setup above 1080p and 24" for developing in a unix environment? Don't know if I should go vertical, dual, or widescreen. I've seen research that dual monitors creates distraction. Thoughts?

I know it doesn't really apply because we have widescreen monitors now, but regardless, I hate seeing code that runs the width of the screen, I'd much rather have more lines than more columns. Viva la vertical!

Are there some good external portable macbook pro monitors that have the vertical/portrait functionality? Also, it should be rechargeable and should not get power from my laptop when there's still a charge. (I use MBP 15" 2018 model)

We are agile at work (all use laptops, no permanent seats) and I need an extra portale monitor because there are no provided external monitors to use.

I was thinking of buying and iPad pro as a portable external monitor via catalina sidecar but it is laggy somehow and very expensive. Thanks! 🙂

Windows is such a piece of shit. A couple of months ago I ordered a PC with Windows as an OS (cuz u know games and stuff). Lately it's just throwing random BSODs everytime with a new error message. This is happening not constantly but in a random behaviour. Nevermind ... But now since I switched one of my monitors to a vertical position instead of the traditional horizontal one, Windows just won't want to recognize this monitor. You know what... FUCK WINDOWS! FUCK THIS GAMES! LINUX all the way.

Realizing that coding isn’t actually how it’s like in the movies where you got 3 monitors and 2 keyboards using both hands to make vertical green lines move, and instead it’s just you painstakingly using your brainpower to figure out how to do some random thing while going to stackoverflow every 11 minutes is the “SANTA ISNT REAL?!” of the programming community
