So, when there is shit hitting the fan at work I tend to stay during lunch to take care of it and make sure I can take as much of a hit for it before it reaches my employees.
the lead developer walked to my office to let me know that he was about to take lunch and asked if i had plans for lunch. I told him that there were some reports to be done and some meetings that i had to attend and would be staying back, he asked if i was going to get something to eat and I said that I would try to get something as soon as possible. My man knows that I am on a strict regimen due to my workouts, and he normally takes concern over it.
I did not get something to eat, but the hour mark when he came back I was fucking starving and still stuck on a call T___T my man walks into my office as I was on a call (meeting) and he leaves a bag with my favorite burgers in my desk as I was waving hello T___T I thanked him afterwards.
Y'all, if youse a manager, take care of your people, fight for your people, my boys know i go the extra mile for them and we used to chill out having bbqs every other week playing pathfinder(i suck but make a fun party member) before the pandemic. Your coworkers might very well be your extended family. Even if you are the manager them peeps will look out for you if they know you are not a power hungry egomaniac that is more focused on keeping higher ups happy.
These dudes are my friends, my family, they were the board of members tasked with knowing if I was to get hired when i first joined in, and even tho I am now their manager I am still their friend, shit like this is possible and what I would implore everyone to strive for, because even if your organization is a faceless entity full of people that don't care for you, the dude at arms reach from your office is there, people are there, fellow human beings are there.
Fuck, just be nice to everyone else and I severely hope y'alls work life is a chill as this one.5 -

Just a friendly reminder to fellow developers to take care of yourself.
If your system is constantly pumping out cortisol, even when threats are minor, it gets desensitized to the stress signals. We used to react to cortisol with the fight-or-flight response when our lives were in real danger. Nowadays it's produced when you disagree with your coworker or there's a deadline coming up. So your cortisol rises but you neither fight nor run. The result is a stress response that isn't functioning properly. This is when burnout symptoms develop. Same goes for testosterone, dopamine and some other hormones and neurotransmitters. Read up and start proper work hygiene that includes workouts, fresh air activities and manual hobbies.
Your back, wrists and eyes aren't the only things you have to watch out for when coding long hours. Cheers and have a fun weekend!6 -
Last year my goals were two:
- work less
- earn more
and I only achieved the second one.
Based on that, my new resolutions are:
- sleep more
- do not work more
- earn more or equal
- to gain stability
- more efficient workouts7 -
Yayy! It's already -15kg since November! W/o any workouts!!
Now I'm at the point where I'm no longer losing weight and don't get whether the fat is still burning and muscles are evening the weight or my clothes simply keep stretching out. Or I'm just seeing what I want to see
anyhow I know I wouldn't have this problem if I were one of the construction workers currently working outside my office :/ office work sounds nice but it's still got its cons. Like being tied down to a chair rather than moving all the time :/16 -

I HAVE A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION.
i need advice.
is it better that i study during the day for college until 12pm (midnight) and then work on my own project from 12pm till 4-5am, go to sleep and wake up around 9-10am so thats 4-7h of sleep each day. the only exception would be tuesday bc i gotta wake up for college at 6am.
so i would be working on my project 6 days for about 4-5h per week.
i plan to do this for 2 months.
so: day shift - college study
night shift - my work
please help me organize my time.
now, im thinking about long term effects on this. its going to be pain. but i am in pain each day so i no longer feel pain. i will be exhausted as fuck. i am fully conscious of what is awaiting for me if i decide to do this.
here is my question. am i going to get a burnout from this? am i going to look physically different in 2 months (in a bad way)? am i going to be mentally worse? am i going to get really skinny? this would basically be a work of 19-20h for 6 days per week for 2 months. that is approximately 114-120h work week minus tuesday.
i have to be mentally equipped for this so i plan to do home workouts in night shift session in order to prevent burnouts. I'll do walks/jogs too in day shift for mental cooldowns. the most important thing for me is NOT TO GET A BURNOUT AT ALL COSTS DURING THIS PERIOD OF TIME NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
i need serious advice on how to do this right AND AVOID BURNOUTS AT ALL COST.
i MUST stay operational mentally for the next 2 months.
please list the things i should DO and NOT do so this can be achievable.13 -

yesterday i completed around 5 months of working out 5 days/week. this has been incredibly hard as i never worked out for more than 2 days in my 24 years on earth.
but i took a pic of mine in the mirror and my fat belly gave me the most depressing sight to see and question whether it was worth the effort.
i mean, surely i can do 50+ pushups now and have started seeing a few changes in shoulder/ chest area, and a few friends/collegues have appreciated my working out habit , but not getting out the only area that i want to go away, this sucks :/
tbh my plan was to see where this experiment of creating a new hobby goes and i did not do the hard steps (like doing cardio more than body part workouts and taking calorie deficit diet). am also a vegan and didn't consumed any fitness products like creaine nd stuff, so not a very nutrition rich diet.
guess i can't ignore the hard steps anymore . just once in my life if i could get a split chiseled stomach :/ (and maybe some cute girlfriend)6 -
I am fucking out of shape. I hate it. I also dislike gyms and exercising doing some repetitive boring set of things. I feel like exercise should be a functional thing. My mind has issues so I end up not exercising. I walk every day 2 to 3 times a day at work. So I am getting some exercise, but not enough. I also like to play games. I saw a reference to a "Skyrim workout". I thought, hey I should look into that. So I found a couple of workouts tied to game mechanics. I am going to start with the simpler one until I see how this will "work out"... If this is successful I think I will create a mod that people can customize their workouts. Less fatty gamers unite!
I have also changed my diet to mostly non carbs. I allow some carbs, but not most. I feel better in general. I just need to actually move more. Have found I don't really get hungry anymore, or not as much.

I'm one month of finishing college, I have failed to pass an intership in a company I would have loved to join and I'm kind of insecure about what is made for me to be doing in the future.
So far.. I.m like a bit of front-end but not so much, I'm like now a bit of programming but I have a hard time underdtanding its logic and I struggle daily to learn to live. Wish to get into workouts aswell but I'd like to do so for getting healthier instead of good looking. Yet, i feel pretty healthy even tho I smoke a lot of pot..7 -
3 days ago i started home workouts after 3 long years of not doing it. By following THENX on youtube. It was a 20 minute ab workout. I fucked myself over. I am in SO MUCH PAIN for several days now. Every day I'm in more pain. I cant stand straight because of how much it fucking hurts. My stomach muscles are FUCKED. It feels like i got punched and beaten in the hips and stomach. But those are muscles strained from not working out for years. This first workout was way too extreme and I fucked up. I look like that old grandma that bends her back like a cockroach while walking. This is ridiculous for a mid 20s guy. How do i recover from this shit12

I want to go to gym but im too broke
Gyms in my country are expensive as fuck. German gym Synergy (im not from germany) costs $27 not per month but per 7 trainings within 1 month. That means if i go every day monday through sunday i have wasted my ticket and have to pay another $27. And thats just the minimum package level, there are other more expensive packages out there that include sauna and various other shits. Other gyms are just as expensive, more or less
On top of that I'd have to pay the private gym coach several hundreds of euros (depending on gym coach) ranging from 100-500 or more euros per month. I live in a country where engineer's minimum salary is 500 euros per month
Not to mention the special expensive food I'd have to eat to follow the training diet which will cost additional several hundred euros more??
double costs = gym + coach + food;
It saddens me to throw away so much money on a liability like this. I'd rather throw that money into some crypto asset thats gonna yield me more money
How the fuck do people afford gym? I want to go to the gym but im too broke for this... Like how perfect and complete life do some people already live in order to be able to afford gym membership so easily?
I cant believe im working such a difficult software java backend job and cant afford a goddamn gym membership
Edit: I just wanted some minimal workouts to maintain my physical health, not some intensive sports workout. Just enough so i look good physically but not too much difficult or heavy weight workouts because i dont care about bodybuilding etc thats not my primary job. So therefore if im asking for bare minimum shouldn't there be some ultra cheap option for me?7 -
