Not as much a rant as interest, but did any of you guys recently start a business or witnessed the start of one? I really wanted to know how those find the services and tools that get them off the ground or enhance the business, is there lists with "must have" services for specific business categories etc?14

How We Help Students with Essay Topics
If there’s anything more time consuming than writing essays based on pre-defined prompts, it’s when a student is given an assignment with his choice of essay topics. Some instructors provide very specific guidelines when they assign essay topics while others are more likely to say, “Pick a topic and run with it”.
Even after you’ve chosen a topic, odds are, you must then hone in on specifics so that you can present a tight and focused finished essay. Topics such as “American writers” sounds like a great place to start, but with so many angles, if you don’t choose a more specific sub-section, you’ll end up with a directionless project. American writers published in the 1940s will allow you to zero in on specifics and define the best authors for your project, too. This is where we can really put a great finishing touch on your essay or other writing project.
Writers for Essay Topics
We know you have a life to live – places to go, people to see, classes to attend – covering the bases with essays, research papers and other custom writing projects might be the last thing you need on your plate right now. Our writers are experts at crafting in-depth essays and papers. They know how to get past the politically correct fluff and get to the heart of the matter. After all, that’s what your instructor really wants. College is all about taking those risks and daring to believe something that goes against your comfort zone and that’s one reason you’ll experience a wide range of essay topics throughout your collegiate career.
Our writers from custom research paper writing, example here https://mcessay.com/ are experienced and ethical. While we can easily go into a long spiel about how experienced or how professional they are, we invite you to take a look at the growing list of satisfied clients who have their own opinions of not only their writers, but their experience as a whole.
Whether you were given detailed instructions on your essay topic or need your writer to really delve into the subject and pull a strong and focused essay topic that allows for a powerful finished project, you can be sure we can meet your needs.
Persuasive Essay Topics
Need to persuade someone to your way of thinking but not sure how to get an effective message across through the written word? We have the writers who can meet that objective; in fact, many of our writers have written persuasive speeches and essays throughout their entire career. Many don’t know the difference in assertive and aggressive writing techniques. We know it’s all about the assertiveness in a persuasive essay. But for those who require a more aggressive stand…
Argumentative Essay Topics
Of course, everyone likes a great debate, but it can be difficult to ensure the emotion and the message doesn’t get lost in the translation. A professional writer can achieve it. The arguments made in solid essays get the point across and can also anticipate any counter-arguments. While our writers can’t read minds, they sure know to put a figurative exclamation point on your essay topic.
Informative Essay Topics
Often, your instructions might be to provide background and historical information on your essay topic. While that might sound easy enough, our writers understand the importance of covering all the bases. Part of the information won’t serve your purposes and might result in your paper being returned by your instructor. Our professionals work hard to make sure it’s well-rounded, authoritative and complete.
Ready to get started? Let us know what you need and we’ll make it happen. You live your life and we’ll cover the writing projects that get in the way of your plans.7 -
Personal Observation
=======
Today morning I was looking through different React UI frameworks for my next hobby project. MUI React has been my favorite but I wanted something informal for this project, so I opened up all the two dozen suggested ones by Google searches.
Since reversing on committing to a UI framework, later on, is a huge headache so I was going through the component demos to shortlist a handful for final consideration, and in that, I almost skipped out all the frameworks which weren't showing a preview of their component on the documentation page itself.
========
I wonder how many frameworks are genuinely good but are passed over due to others having better and more illustrative documentation. In a market with vast abundance, one cannot rely on the sincerity of the consumer to invest time and determine the best possible product, for there are plenty of 'good enough' products that the user does not really worry about false negatives. -
Seems like the poisoning of the internet is coming to a head. While searching earlier for a first principles reference to answer a question with, I came across an entirely obfuscated query.
"Codd's forms of normalization"
https://google.com/search/...
In the first four pages, there are 5 results that aren't ad farms, crappy pasta tutorial sites, brand building articles, poorly understood rote regurgitation of information, quora, or some combination of all of the above.
In 2005, the top 5 would likely have contained Bell Labs, UoI, Cambridge and Oracle. Mind you, I don't think the world is getting dumber, exactly, just that the signal to noise ratio in the information sphere is getting worse and the risk from that is the world becomes markedly "dumber". The only barrier to entry anymore is how well your SEO optimization competes.
I'm obviously getting old.

What kind of apartment could a typical programmer afford in New York?
I am from Europe and don't consider moving to the US. I am just curious31 -
Will yellow dog finish one fucking game he starts working on? Tune in to tomorrows episode of Whyismywebsocketnotresponding Z to find out.

I am not a fan of programs that want to store their libraries in your home directory. It's alright if they store it in a hidden folder at least. I like my home directory to be nice and clean~~3

I feel like a total dickhead, might fuck around and implement some data structures and algos in c++ later idk.2

I’m trying to add caching functionality in my scalable spark cluster on Docker. I am able to add redis to my Docker container, but that doesn’t add redis-CLI or any other useful tools that I need. And there are some redis-cache projects on PyPi, but they are very old and not compatible with python3.5

Is it just me or are books on algorithms split between being too simplistic and being too detailed to be practical. I read Donald Knuth's book "The Art of Computer Programming Vol.1" read about 10% of it , which is like 3 chapters. I really enjoyed those chapters, Knuth's is such a genius but then the rest of the book was so complicated that the introduction and definition of terms was longer than some whole chapters in the same book. I decided to look for another, found a really good one, but it was analyzing algorithms in Java, sigh, I hardly code in Java so it was exactly easy for me to follow when he keeps mentioning the "comparable" attribute on sorting algorithms. I then got another really followed it till the keep on referencing indicator variables, I had read 3 books now and had not had of these indicator variables. Am sure they are not that common in the Computer Science literature so I was left wondering why I had to learn to analyze code with indicator variables though it was not a standardized in the "Computer Culture" would I be the only one who does this?.. I hence gave up on learning algorithms till I got that book that was just right for me5

So i tried getting some games i play on windows to work with wine and steam.
After swearing and installing all the shitty dependencies it doesnt feel any good. And worst of all i knew not all games are going to work though.
As i wanted a good and portable setup i thought alright maybe this is going to be a good use case for docker. But its a pure nightmare to get everything running fine. At the end i gave up that shit.
So dual boot is still the only way for me to be able to play games without hacks and an unreasonable amount of work.
Using gpu passthrough to kvm is a pure nightmare too. I mean what the hack, the best way to use it is to have two fcking video cards?! And yeah the integrated intel shit graphics are no option.
I mean why the fuck is it even necessary to perform dirty hacks because the most game publishers dont give a fuck about linux.
Seriously it isnt that fucking hard! And Proton is a good step for some games, but only as a temporarily solution, that only exists because of shitty game publishers.
It is horrible, its 2020 and i still cant get fully independent from windows, no matter how hard i try.
Is it that fucking hard to add builds for linux to their shitty games?!14 -
Do you look forward to working?
My friend seems to feel working is a good distraction from worrying about the virus.
To me though, I don't hate work but would rather just take off instead of wfh...
Just don't feel like working... But dunno y...8 -
I'm studying Databases and I'm getting confused about Foreign Key.
A Foreign Key made reference to Primary Key of another table. But what's the point? Can't I simply use a value and select requested data where TableA value is equal to TableB value?
Sorry if I didn't explain it well, I'm so confused lmao6 -
Not really Dev related,but I find myself listening to this album on repeat https://youtu.be/nBZbNBzerFo it's so relaxing2

Being a front end developer and working in a team of motivated "full stack" developers sucks big time.
So, recently joined this new company with a very small project which just started, basically a cloud version of a really old desktop app. Few people from the team completely from the asp dotnet background decided the architecture few months before I joined in.
So, they did it something like this -
- mono repo dotnet project with VueJs app served within it (because that would be maintainable 😑)
- vue app served by pointing the built files through dotnet index file (simply because they didn't care about the gift to the front end world which is webpack or even had any knowledge about it 😑)
- added typescript because, u know it's cool 😑, without even knowing that they don't possess that team which know how to write the types (f***ers write classes for every payload object coz they don't know what interfaces are)
- no loader to load typescript, they are running tsc in watch mode and we have .js and .js.map for every .ts file in our project which some teammates are even pushing to repo
Recently, I added eslint with git hooks to the project so that everyone will at least stick to the coding standards. Now, to avoid the errors they are bypassing the git hooks by uninstalling the library and then installing it after the commit😂😂
Then we have a girl who uses document.getElementById to programmatically change styles in a Vue project😑😑😑😂
Then we have dotnet people using dotnet coding conventions all over the front end app.
People, how do I deal with these so called "full stack" people?12 -
Can you guys let me know how microsoft teams is? Is it good, or is it polluted with fluff and garbage?15

I been looking at the job listing at my country and I can only found the job for web.
What happen to the quality desktop application development?30 -
And now I've run into a whole another issue which is really fucking strange.
Has it ever occured that a Object in java looses all it's values after being put into an array of same type?
My problem:
[code...]
Mat[] matArray = new Mat[totalFramesOfVideo];
videoCapture.open();
Mat currentFrame = new Mat();
int frameCounter = 0;
while(videoCapture.read()) {
currentFrame = (last read frame as a Mat)
matArray[frameCounter] = currentFrame;
frameCounter++;
}
then, after filling the array and accessing elements, they lose all their object values.
Eg. Before currentFrame's dimensions were 1080*1920, but matArray[index] dimensions are suddenly 0*0.6 -
Petition for devrant to start using iso dates. Or at least pick up the format from the device's locale. But preferably iso. Seeing m/d/y does my head in.12

This quarantine has been killing my neck. I’m always looking down at my phone and finally understand the real effect of Text Neck.
However, I found this new app on product hunt that notifies you to hold your phone with good posture and it is a LIFE CHANGER!!

Imagine a time when a colleague contributes a shitty spaghetti of non-optimized code that neither use mnemonic variables nor conventional naming of functions, and you can imagine the dark hours of maintaining it and your fingers itch to fix it but you don't have the time and the responsibility too to do it. He doesn't listen to you and you feel bad to tell this to the boss as the colleague is also a friend you've known since college and is a good person otherwise. No options seems to give peace.6

what books, resources would you recommend for improving software design philosophy as well as computer science and database design ?5

People experienced with java/ multi threading , can you tell me how you build a pausing mechanism for threads? Like, if my bg thread is supposed to count for 100 seconds, and i need a mechanism to :
A: start it,
B: stop it on its counting completion/ manually
C: pause its execution at a number on a button click
D: resume its counting from the same number on another button click
How would i do that?

I know this is selfish, but this whole COVID-19 thing is driving me insane. The virus and quarantine I don't mind too much. What gets me is the number of people I see every single day having legit panic attacks because they can't buy "x" right now and it's the end of the world. I can't stand people who are literally in tears because they have to take an extra day off of work each week because of the state of the economy. I've been virtually unemployed for two years (not for lack of trying) and borderline homeless for six months. Grow up. You have a Lexus, a Range Rover, and a four bedroom house for you and your partner.9
