A story about how a busy programmer became responsible for training interns.
So I was put in charge of a team of interns and had to teach them to work with Linux, coding (Bash, Python and JS) and networking overall.
None of the interns had any technical experience, skills, knowledge or talent.
Furthermore the task came to me as a surprise and I didn't have any training plan nor the time.
Case 0:
Intern is asked to connect to a VM, see which interfaces there are and bring up the one that's down (eth1). He shuts eth0 down and is immediately disconnected from the machine, being unable to connect remotely.
Case 1:
Intern researches Bash scripting via a weird android app and after a hour or so creates and runs this function: test(){test|test&}
He fork-bombed the VM all other interns used.
Case 2:
All interns used the same VM despite the fact that I created one for each.
They saved the same ssh address in Putty while giving it different names.
Case 3:
After explicitly explaining and demonstrating to the interns how to connect to their own VMs they all connect to the same machine and attempt to create file systems, map them and etc. One intern keeps running "shutdown -r" in order to test the delay flag, which he never even included.
Case 4:
All of the interns still somehow connect to the same VM despite me manually configuring their Putty "favorites". Apparently they copy-paste a dns that one of them sent to the entire team via mail. He also learned about the wall command and keeps scaring his team members with fake warnings. A female intern actually asked me "how does the screen knows what I look like?!". This after she got a wall message telling her to eat less because she gained weight.
Case 5:
The most motivated intern ran "rm -rf" from his /etc directory.
P.S. All other interns got disconnected because they still keep using his VM.
Case 6:
While giving them a presentation about cryptography and explaining how SSH (that they've been using for the past two weeks) works an intern asked "So is this like Gmail?".
I gave him the benefit of the doubt and asked if he meant the authorization process. He replied with a stupid smile "No! I mean that it can send things!".
FML. I have a huge project to finish and have to babysit these art majors who decided to earn "ezy cash many" in hightech.
Adventures will be continued.26 -

					First world problems...
I've been working at this startup as a tech lead for a little over a year, and we've grown from 3 to over 150 employees, and a bit over a million end users.
I've spent tens of thousands on high end displays and chairs for your lazy butts, on external consultants to help and train you, even those fucking dirty recruiters have leeched their shares of the pie. I built an amazing luxury kitchen with a fridge, beer cooler, induction plates and a blender for all your crossfitting bodybuilder meals, but forgot to think of my own needs.
NOW I JUST WANT TO BUY A GOOD COFFEEMAKER AND ALL THESE FUCKING TEASLURPING FAKE DEV-BROS SUDDENLY START SCREAMING ABOUT BUDGETS AND HOW COFFEE IS NOT NECESSARY IF YOU MEDITATE. FUCK YOU, WE'RE LIKE THE ONLY STARTUP IN THE COUNTRY RUNNING A FAT PROFIT. I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR STUPID MINDFULNESS IOS APP. GIVE ME MY FUCKING ESPRESSO OR I'LL BLEND YOUR BALLS INTO A PROTEIN SHAKE.25 -

So a fucking friend of mine makes me meet this fella who is a big shot according to his LinkedIn and please note has too much experience with Web Apps and Python
Me being naive actually trusted that and I meet him.
Fella: So what do you do?
Me: I am into Cyber Security nothing much I just do bug hunting for now
Fella: You know python will help you right?
Me: Sorry?
Fella: You see you have to be a python programmer for anything you want to do in CS
Me: Me yeah I kinda know python actually I am more into Ruby from start so ( Around this time I kinda sensed that he is a fake tech guy he is a corporate asshole)
Fella: show me any of your work
Me: (So to show him one of the thing I was working on I open GitHub desktop app) Me explaining blah blah blah
*Fella is in shock*
So at this point I was thinking probably he is impressed and that's why the shock right?
No a big fucking no
Apparently he never heard about GitHub or git and got blown away by the interface.
And the friend who made me meet that guy is not my fucking friend anymore that prick can die for ruining my day18 -

I feel so sorry for all the people in the world who use their phone more than their PC/laptop.
All the pitiful souls who think they're gamers because they installed lootchest simulator on their little digital skinner box. All the sad beings who just view the internet as a collection of ad-infested apps.
Actually, I don't feel sorry, because these people make the world a worse place.
Suddenly we needed websites which could render on tiny screens and need bloated cross-platform app development frameworks. Many game studios became parasites exploiting addictive behavior in humans, instead of creating works of art.
Humans spent 10,000 years to perfect their caves with expensive kitchens, and all people want is for their WiFi to reach the grill at the end of the garden. Humans created central heating, comfortable couches, wall-mounted TVs and luxurious desks -- and all people can think of is whether their phone plan covers holiday roaming at their shitty resorts.
The rare times I do actually go into this apocalyptic wasteland people call "The Outside", all I see is subway cars full of hunched addicted drudges, bus stops with clusters of enslaved automatons.
Fuck all of them.
Fuck all of you imbeciles, who ventured out of the cave and now DARE to call me anti-social, just for preferring the warmth of my comfortable protective den.
It's fucking cozy here, within the walls of my shelter, I got booze and a fridge full of food and a bunch of LSD, I can masturbate under the shower, have sex on the couch, have all kinds of GIANT displays for entertainment, with full-sized qwerty-keyboards, high-DPI mouses, even some console controllers and big TVs if I feel lazy.
You can stick your responsive websites and social-network-integrated Android apps up your rectum, just sit your fucking fat ass down in front of a workstation and desperately refresh the stream of fake attention-seeking messages there, if you absolutely must.
Seriously, why does this guy from our marketing department call me on my private phone number. Why did HR PROVIDE him with my private phone number?
And WHY THE FUCK is he asking me, a DB admin: "Our website doesn't load properly on Safari on my iPhone 7, could you take a look at it"?
No, of course I won't fucking come to the office to take a look at your miserable shitty device with its cracked glass screen.
Fuck you and your outdoorsy habits.
Stay the fuck in your cave, you degenerate attention whore, otherwise please go choke on your airpods.19 -

So i was working with a small company which were developing software for insurance sector. It was decided then that there should be an app for windows phone community and i was hired to that job.
It took me almost a month to finish the job. Please keep in mind that project was huge and already developed for android counterpart and was a hit in market. This was a chance given to me to prove myself and i proved it.
First month was fantastic for the company as software the company made was not available for windows phone. Price has been set for the software was higher in those time. Almost $15.
Excited by the success i added some more features which were not available on android counter part.
But price was very high. Even i asked management to drop the price because there were less windows phone user but no body listened.
Result : in a year app has made roughly 5000 download in which only 200 paid the actual price. Company asked me to take down the app from store. I was blamed for my over confidence in adding features that this made app less usable. They did not say a word to business managment team. I was fired.
Rough, cruel world.
6 month ago i published my app for same purpose with same feature set and different UI. And made it free. Completely free. Added a link to pay developer $0.5 or Rs 30.
Result: i have now 10 thousands plus download in last 4 month in which almost 3000 users have donated already.
Now i have my resource and my confidence and making an android app for same purpose.
This is my story and is not fake, i am 28 years old. If you think you can, you can.

Don't cha just love it when you download your "native" desktop application to host a meeting, only to find out its actually a wrapper around a browser?
How did I find out? Well I innocently tried to drag and drop an image to share, only to have the browser open and render that file instead of uploading it, killing the application it was running behind it, closing the meeting for everyone on it ... and not even be able to access a back button to re-open the session.

Tinder is the worst app out there. I keep receiving notifies like "hey honey! You received x new likes!" or "you're performing well! A lot of people are appreciating you".
What's the problem, you say... well, the problem is that I HAVE NO A FUCKING ACCOUNT, I deleted my account months and months ago and if you want you can try it as well. Download, sign up, set the worst photo that you can find then delete your account, you'll receive a lot of awesome messages!
Actually I received these fake notifies also when my account was active, and when I opened it then I discovered that there was no new likes. But was so fucking hard to put an if statement to check if the user's account is active? Come on... I know you want to trick people and convince them using your app, at least do it the right way2 -

OK, so we had a session in which a so called Company (Some ecorise.in ) came to give Internship-Training-Program. Ok, he said it'll take 5-8 minutes, and then it took fucking 75 minutes for the session to end. Horrible blunders he made.
1) Did not tell about the company and important stuff for the first 50-60 minutes. Instead, was just focusing on why you should do an Internship, what is it's benefit, what does a company want from you. And why this Internship-Training Program is important... I mean seriously? - A training for Internship. 🤦🏻♂️
2) Said all the Web Developers can be Mobile App Developers with the help of just HTML and CSS.... Wow, so XAML/XML is shit now, and we will call APIs with the help of CSS rules. 🤦🏻♂️
OK, still I tolerated all that, then was the part when he said how much will be the stipend. It was fucking nothing, they said. That for first three months they will not give a single penny as it is training, and then IF the performance is good, then they will give stipend, and then Placement assurance. OK, that's good that they are assuring placement, but wait. Package of 2LPA INR... WTF Man, it's like $3107.28 for a whole Year.
OK, that too tolerated, then was the part when they said that they'll take the written test, I was like OK, let's see. We moved to a classroom, it went over-the-full capacity, so we moved back to the seminar hall. (Arrrrgggghhhhhhhhh), still tolerable. But then that guy realised that there were no question papers to take the test, then sent someone to get the print outs. Wasted 15+ minutes, I was burning inside.
In the whole seminar hall, I stood up and said, that when you knew there will be a test, why didn't you pre-prepared the sheets beforehand, he was like, that we didn't knew the count. But his tone was. like he got offended and Get-Lost-ed me out of the seminar.
Then even I said:
🙏🏻 - Nahi chaahiye aapki Company
(🙏🏻 - I don't want your Company).
And moved out.
But my point, I am a third Year College Student, and this Company came for our benefit, but I did so (and I am not sorry), so that's pretty obvious that the Company guy will talk (bitch) to the teachers about me, and tomorrow will be a bad day for me... But isn't it wrong on the side of the company also?
I mean, there was an attendance sheet passed in the beginning of the session, had he taken count from that and got the sheets printed, (He had almost an hour for that).
Secondly, when they knew that the count of students is more than expected, then why didn't they check for the classroom that whether the class can accommodate so many students or not. If not then something would have been planned accordingly... But no, the Guy (I guess, that small Company's Owner) got offended that a Student back-chat-ted a CEO of a so-called company, and so he just had to "Get-Lost" me. Checked the website of his Company, they have hardly done 3 Static Websites... I mean, WoW, I have done at-least 10X the work of the Company, alone!
I don't know, I feel happy that I kept my point, but I feel sad because I generally don't do this kind of thing (may be my tone was also wrong, I had other issues also, may be because of them and they all combined and this happened). I feel scared too, that I don't know what the Company guy will say to my teachers and what action will they take against me...
Because I know, none of my friends will stand with me when I go down, it's all fake here, everyone can just give sympathy, but nothing else.
I don't know why I am posting this here, and if you have read this till here, thank you. I just wanted to share my heart out... :-)9 -

Ok fellow ranters. I've scoured the internet for hilarious and enraging stories of programmers being asked to either work for free, or for stock options, or to hack (crack) stuff, etc.
Here's my latest one. A friend who's obsessed with crypto came up with a "great" idea which was for me (of course) to build a landing page for a fake company to trick people into submitting their crypto wallet keys and all that. What started as a joke quickly turned into my friend getting mad at me for not wanting to actually make it lol. Like seriously wtf is with people. All the reasons not to do that scheme are plainly obvious!
Next. Some person who worked for a company I consult with pulled the generic. "I have this great app idea" line & proceeded to of course ask me to "not steal it" lol. It was just an app that would list gluten free restaurants... That's hardly even an idea!!
But what's fucked up about all this is my friend from the first story is so obsessed with becoming a "crypto millionaire" he actually resents me now for not
1. being obsessed with crypto
2. not committing cybercrime on his behalf
Anybody else have enraging stories about stuff people have asked you to do?3 -

Not entirely sure if should be said an IT company but yes I would mention SHAREit.
The well known file sharing software, I remember using it most of the times for file sharing between my Android devices, it previously was only meant for "File Sharing" but now they're just more into ads, video recommendations, news etc etc "useless stuffs".
I mean who the hell in this world would like to open a file sharing app for trending WhatsApp video recommendations? Getting notifications in a language unknown to me? Who has even asked you all for this.
I know ads gives you profit but atleast not the trending movies and all for a file sharing app.
It was good overall in the start but now not they're not working in a way they used to.
PS: image below is a SHAREit notification for someone doing black magic on a kid. See, stupid stuff! not even a news to be read just fake stuff. Atleast show some serious ads or else just rollback to your previous version.

So here's my problem. I've been employed at my current company for the last 12 months (next week is my 1 year anniversary) and I've never been as miserable in a development job as this.
I feel so upset and depressed about working in this company that getting out of bed and into the car to come here is soul draining. I used to spend hours in the evenings studying ways to improve my code, and was insanely passionate about the product, but all of this has been exterminated due to the following reasons.
Here's my problems with this place:
1 - Come May 2019 I'm relocating to Edinburgh, Scotland and my current workplace would not allow remote working despite working here for the past year in an office on my own with little interaction with anyone else in the company.
2 - There is zero professionalism in terms of work here, with there being no testing, no planning, no market research of ideas for revenue generation – nothing. This makes life incredibly stressful. This has led to countless situations where product A was expected, but product B was delivered (which then failed to generate revenue) as well as a huge amount of development time being wasted.
3 - I can’t work in a business that lives paycheck to paycheck. I’ve never been somewhere where the salary payment had to be delayed due to someone not paying us on time. My last paycheck was 4 days late.
4 - The management style is far too aggressive and emotion driven for me to be able to express my opinions without some sort of backlash.
5 - My opinions are usually completely smashed down and ignored, and no apology is offered when it turns out that they’re 100% correct in the coming months.
6 - I am due a substantial pay rise due to the increase of my skills, increase of experience, and the time of being in the company, and I think if the business cannot afford to pay £8 per month for email signatures, then I know it cannot afford to give me a pay rise.
7 - Despite having continuously delivered successful web development projects/tasks which have increased revenue, I never receive any form of thanks or recognition. It makes me feel like I am not cared about in this business in the slightest.
8 - The business fails to see potential and growth of its employees, and instead criticises based on past behaviour. 'Josh' (fake name) is a fine example of this. He was always slated by 'Tom' and 'Jerry' as being worthless, and lazy. I trained him in 2 weeks to perform some basic web development tasks using HTML, CSS, Git and SCSS, and he immediately saw his value outside of this company and left achieving a 5k pay rise during. He now works in an environment where he is constantly challenged and has reviews with his line manager monthly to praise him on his excellent work and diverse set of skills. This is not rocket science. This is how you keep employees motivated and happy.
9 - People in the business with the least or zero technical understanding or experience seem to be endlessly defining technical deadlines. This will always result in things going wrong. Before our mobile app development agency agreed on the user stories, they spent DAYS going through the specification with their developers to ensure they’re not going to over promise and under deliver.
10 - The fact that the concept of ‘stealing data’ from someone else’s website by scraping it daily for the information is not something this company is afraid to do, only further bolsters the fact that I do not want to work in such an unethical, pathetic organisation.
11 - I've been told that the MD of the company heard me on the phone to an agency (as a developer, I get calls almost every week), and that if I do it again, that the MD apparently said he would dock my pay for the time that I’m on the phone. Are you serious?! In what world is it okay for the MD of a company to threaten to punish their employees for thinking about leaving?! Why not make an attempt at nurturing them and trying to find out why they’re upset, and try to retain the talent.
Now... I REALLY want to leave immediately. Hand my notice in and fly off. I'll have 4 weeks notice to find a new role, and I'll be on garden leave effective immediately, but it's scary knowing that I may not find a role.
My situation is difficult as I can't start a new role unless it's remote or a local short term contract because my moving situation in May, and as a Junior to Mid Level developer, this isn't the easiest thing to do on the planet.
I've got a few interviews lined up (one of which was a final interview which I completed on Friday) but its still scary knowing that I may not find a new role within 4 weeks.
Advice? Thoughts? Criticisms?
Love you DevRant <33 -

I just want to share this:
When I start working at my last job, I have little idea of what a unit test was.
My boss on one meeting said that unit testing will be mandatory (wich is ok and umderstandable).
Almost a *year* after that, no one still care about them. I see myself doing them the best I can, but I saw things like wrap the assertion line with "try / catch" to lie to the coverage and unit test percentage. Or in other cases directly uploading *manually* the code on the server without test at all.
And then, as the only developer who do the unit test ok I have to do the missing ones and repair the fake ones.
Then when something explodes the question all the managers love to ask "Did we had the testing?"
At least I quit... that job was some crazy shit, this is just one story of many.
Like that other time that my co-workers did not understand why I needed to do POJOs on an android app because the big bad JSON that the app used was working fine.... -

					Can AI recognize fake smiles?
Context:
So, my good-for-nothing brother-in-law comes with his toddler. I'm pissed at him for reasons, but gentlemen are always polite IRL and look at each other for greetings.
His toddler has always loved me and runs towards me. But see my fake-ass smile and suddenly she is shy and nervous.
She has noticed the stealth-fake smile that fooled her mother and grandmother.
Can AI do that? are there enough markers to differentiate a fake smile from a real one? Or is it waaay to personal?
If is it trivial, can someone please make a fake-smile coach app?10 -

Biggest lesson learned for me was believing some guy wearing a comb over & a fake tan who sounds like a car salesman. He claimed selling web app services to companies was no different than selling cars. It turns out that a lot of investors were not too happy that the company went under (b4 anything was released) b/c the CEO/CFO somehow managed to burn several million dollars on first class flights, cruises, 5 star restaurants, a luxury company car (for himself), hotels, etc.,. oh and even some fake tans!
Worst part about all that he wasn't even worth sueing because he had no money after all that. He even signed the 'company' car over to one of his kids!3 -

There's very little good use cases for mongo, change my mind.
Prototyping maybe? Rails can prototype, create/update/destroy db schemas really quickly anyways.
If you're doing a web app, there's tons of libs that let you have a store in your app, even a fake mongo on the browser.
Are the reads fast? When I need that, use with redis.
Can it be an actual replacement for an app's db? No. Safety mechanisms that relational dbs have are pretty much must haves for a production level app.
Data type checks, null checks, foreign key checks, query checks.
All this robustness, this safety is something critical to maintain the data of an app sane.
Screw ups in the app layer affecting the data are a lot less visible and don't get noticed immediately (things like this can happen with relational dbs but are a lot less likely)
Let's not even get into mutating structures. Once you pick a structure with mongo, you're pretty much set.
Redoing a structure is manual, and you better have checks afterwards.
But at the same time, this is kind of a pro for mongo, since if there's variable data, as in some fields that are not always present, you don't need to create column for them, they just go into the data.
But you can have json columns in postgres too!
Is it easier to migrate than relational dbs? yes, but docker makes everything easy also.11 -

When someone writes a Flutter app like it's 1998 and blames Flutter for being "too hard" and "DIfficult"
First of all… WTF?
This guy wrote an entire Flutter app like it's HTML + CSS cosplay. No use of Flutter’s built-in Drawer, AppBar, or BottomNavigationBar. Instead? He manually built his own versions of all of them using Container, Row, and Column, all dumped inside the body. Literal pixel pushing. He made a fake AppBar inside the body. A fake Drawer inside the body. A fake BottomNav inside the body. It's like UI inception. Then he turns around and says “Flutter is hard.”
Bro… you made it hard. Flutter gave you prebuilt widgets. You chose pain.
Zero data structures. No architecture. No MVC.
The only MVC I found was: Multiple Voids in Class.
And the documentation? It's literally been around since 2018. Not even buried, just a Google search away.
Then came the excuses:
“Oh he’s from a Delphi / ASP.NET background, so Flutter is difficult for him.”
No. I’ve coded in Erlang and COBOL. You don’t see me turning Flutter into Erlang’s syntax disaster or WRITING DART IN ALL CAPS like COBOL.
Choose a paradigm. Functional? Procedural? OOP? Fine. Just don’t mix all three into some cursed hybrid mess.
What did I see in the code?
Recursion inside recursion for no reason
Functional programming patterns mixed with anti-OOP logic
500+ functions declared, zero referenced
Authentication by writing to file.txt. Like… bro, why?
And then there’s navigation. He stored route info in both SQLite AND SharedPreferences before pushing a new route. Why both? Why at all?
Honestly, Flutter has been one of the cleanest and most developer-friendly frameworks I’ve used. Dart is readable, fast, and predictable. But somehow this guy managed to turn a simple Flutter app into a twisted assembly simulator from hell.
Flutter didn’t fail him. He failed Flutter.
And yeah — the project folder was named Flutter_UI_Test_FINAL_v2_Rebuild_2023_OK and full of main_old.dart, main_old(copy).dart, main.dart.bak. I should’ve known from the start.
Really.......Some dev are idk what to describe

Is anyone else annoyed and / or bothered with how google handles the publishing of apps on its store.
Like I have an account for a client with the clients name and all other his data. I publish a new app on his account with the same name as his account and the app gets rejected for copyright violation because the name and material are copyrighted to the client who is publishing the app.
This is the scenario:
Lets call the client Luis, and he has a developer account named Luis with email luis@luis.com
And the app is called Luis, but when I tried to publish it it was rejected because it contains copyrighted material from Luis.
Wtf?!?!???
Like I understand they need to protect the store from fake apps and all, but how do I give myself the permission to use something I own ?
And now I need to find a way for a client to make a contract from him to him for his material so that google will publish the app -

					Serverless and death of Programming?!
_TL;DR_
I hate serverless at work, love it at home, what's your advice?
- Is this the way things be from now on, suck it up.
- This will mature soon and Code will be king again.
- Look for legacy code work on big Java monolith or something.
- Do front-end which is not yet ruined.
- Start my own stuff.
_Long Rant_
Once one mechanic told me "I become mechanic to escape electrical engineering, but with modern cars...". I'm having similar feelings about programming now.
_Serverless Won_
All of the sudden everyone is doing Serverless, so I looked into it too, accidentally joined the company that does enterprise scale Serverless mostly.
First of all, I like serverless (AWS Lambda in specific) and what it enables - it makes 100% sense and 100% business sense for 80% of time.
So all is great? Not so much... I love it as independent developer, as it enables me to quickly launch products I would have been hesitant due to effort required before. However I hate it in my work - to be continued bellow...
_I'm fake engineer_
I love programming! I love writing code. I'm not really an engineer in the sense that I don't like hustle with tools and spending days fixing obscure environment issues, I rather strive for clean environment where there's nothing between me and code. Of course world is not perfect and I had to tolerate some amounts of hustle like Java and it's application servers, JVM issues, tools, environments... JS tools (although pain is not even close to Java), then it was Docker-ization abuse everywhere, but along the way it was more or less programming at the center. Code was the king, devOps and business skills become very important to developers but still second to code. Distinction here is not that I can't or don't do engineering, its that it requires effort, while coding is just natural thing that I can do with zero motivation.
_Programming is Dead?!_
Why I hate Serverless at work? Because it's a mess - I had a glimpse of this mess with microservices, but this is way worse...
On business/social level:
- First of all developers will be operations now and it's uphill battle to push for separation on business level and also infrastructure specifics are harder to isolate. I liked previous dev-devops collaboration before - everyone doing the thing that are better at.
- Devs now have to be good at code, devOps and business in many organisations.
- Shift of power balance - Code is no longer the king among developers and I'm seeing it now. Code quality drops, junior devs have too hard of the time to learn proper coding practices while AWS/Terraform/... is the main productivity factors. E.g. same code guru on code reviews in old days - respectable performer and source of Truth, now - rambling looser who couldn't get his lambda configured properly.
On not enjoying work:
- Lets start with fact - Code, Terraform, AWS, Business mess - you have to deal with all of it and with close to equal % amount of time now, I want to code mostly, at least 50% of time.
- Everything is in the air ("cloud computing" after all) - gone are the days of starting application and seeing results. Everything holds on assumptions that will only be tested in actual environment. Zero feedback loop - I assume I get this request/SQS message/..., I assume I have configured all the things correctly in sea of Terraform configs and modules from other repos - SQS queues, environment variables... I assume I taken in consideration tens of different terraform configurations of other lambdas/things that might be affected...
It's a such a pleasure now, after the work to open my code editor and work on my personal React.js app...2 -

In high-school we had comp science classes which obviously hardly had anything to do with real stuff. In fact, our teacher was really clueless, so we decided to fool her. I made a tiny app that took a screenshot and set it as its background while being full screen and with hidden cursor. So it basically looked as if the computer was frozen. I also made it so pressing alt+f4 would set the background to a fake BSOD image. Next class we fired it up, the teacher tried everything to unfreeze the computer. She obviously failed, so we told her to try alt+f4. BSOD came up, she tried to fix it by hitting on the side of the PC. That didn't work so she unplugged it from the wall socket. We barely managed to not burst out in laugh, it was absolutely hilarious 😂

So I went into work yesterday on my day off right? (Mardi Gras) to finish up a pretty significant addition to our application. I only had 2 days to work on it before we were to show it off to potential buyers today, so I came in to get it to at least a working state that we can improve later...
Well, that wasn't good enough. First thing my boss said when he saw it was, "this isn't what we had talked about". No dip-shit, this is what you get when you have 1 programmer working on their holiday. Like, I know we talked about this massive content update, but we talked about LITERALLY LESS THAN A WEEK AGO. I really don't know what you expect, but I made it very clear that all I could get done was a prototype at best. Not to mention that this whole app is a hard-coded "fake-prototype" that was never supposed to make it this far.... -

So I have flashed and rooted (superSU) lineageOS 14.1 thats running android 7.1.2 on my phone and now I read that this will trip safetynet and won't allow things like netflix, banking apps or pokemon go - I tried to install netflix and it worked, tried pokemon go and after granting GPS via privacy guard it worked too.
But still it seems that if I would now flash Xposed (which I didn't find a good build for 7.1.2 yet anyway) that it would actually then start tripping those protections and that I should go with "systemless root" via magisk.
How does magisk compare to superSU? I loved root some years ago because of xprivacy, adfree etc. which are actually modifying system files as far as I know and I would like to go as "extreme" as denying camera usage to apps, but not making them crash, so just like xprivacy has fake IMEI I would like to show just a black image served to the app, I remember there was an xposed module doing that, but how far can magisk compare there?
And most importantly is there a way to just hide superSU and xposed from all those detections?4 -

Do any of you guys know an android app which sets a "fake" location and goes along a path (and does not contain ads if possible)? Currently have a GPS based project I need to test
Thanks bros5 -

I have a small NUC-like machine in my home with an old external hdd connected to it. I use it to run my local gitlab, nextcloud and to test a few websites I build for the lolz.
If you too have a homelab, whether it's a single raspberry or an entire room full or racks, you know damn well that everything you have running locally as a web service keeps going until it doesn't, for whatever fucking reason. This time, it was the turn of my nextcloud.
The machine has arch linux running, I chose it since I already use it on my coding laptop and being a rolling release means I don't have to manually upgrade to a newer version, risking various fuck-ups and consequent screaming of profanity.
The downside is that arch is a bleeding-edge distro, so, despite being pretty good for what concerns security, as updates are pushed out some packages may still require legacy software to work as intended, since obviously not all developers for all packages can release simultaneously.
The problem was that php reached 8.2.x but nextcloud couldn't use anything beyond 8.1, so the highlighted solution was to download php-legacy, a package with a set of utilities which the cloud could use instead of mainline php.
Pretty easy, right? fuck my life, here we go.
I edited apache-httpd's configurations to link the new libraries, updated every reference in every virtual host that could possibly screw up the web server.
Done.
Then I went on and disabled the php-fpm mainline, creating a new systemd unit that would instead run the legacy executable and afterwards I edited nextcloud's additional configs so they use that instead.
Done, getting a bit dizzy, but I reboot everything and breathe.
At this point the migration should be complete, but wait, the server returns an error saying that the application is still trying to use php 8.2+...wait, what in the sysadmin Christ?
Back to nextcloud config, everything is set, everything else in every other fucking php-legacy and web server is fine, the old fpm service is disabled, I am confused, and why in the FUCKING FUCK is the new php-fpm unit failing to start at boot with "error 78/config - directory not found"? Hello? Am I being trolled by a shitty dual-core amazon fake NUC?
Maybe yes, cause it turns out that the unit was referencing a directory in the external hdd, which gets mounted at boot time after the unit itself starts, so nothing much, just a matter of tinkering with cron jobs, a reboot and at least this one is off my balls.
But why still isn't the server responding correctly? why? WHY?
After slamming my cock on the keyboard here and there scrolling back through all the config files I think to myself, hmmm, my gitlab is working flawlessly, well yeah, I didn't need to install the whole web stack, everything was nice and easy wrapped in a docker container...so why am I even here, why the fuck am I bothering with all this layered web-app bullshit, why don't I just run the up-to-date docker image that someone else has already set up for me, back up all the data and reupload them on the application?
Oh joy, you can't imagine, after 3...almost 4 hours of pure computer-touching the relief I had from seeing the blue web page with the "welcome to nextcloud" title.
Right now it's copying back all the files, and the external hdd is now linked to include the data folder.
Like really, everything was solved in two lines of bash.
I am still fuming, but at least I learned a valuable lesson, if you want a service up for yourself, implement it and deploy it as fucking easy straight-forward as you can, giving MAXIMUM priority to already fully-working options that are out there just waiting to be downloaded and used. I swing my scrotal sack on web-apps elegance as long as it's MY homelab in MY place.
Eat a fat dick php.
sudo pacman -Rns nextcloud
sudo systemctl disable --now php-fpm-legacy
sudo pacman -Rns php-legacy
sudo pacman -Rns $(sudo pacman -Qdtq)2 -

TLDR: more fake money!
There's more and more assets being created in the crypto economy," Armstrong said during the call. "I think it's going to be something kind of like apps in the App Store on the iPhone, where there's eventually millions of these assets created over time, and so we're putting a lot of work and thought into how do we accelerate our pace of asset addition."

So, got call from fake windows tech support (India) just minutes after syncing my github Gmail to Windows 10 mail app. Trolled along while recording the audio, until he told me which command he wanted me to run. The I hung up and did a security scan.
Figured I'd learn something instead of just hanging up right away 😎

Need some advise from all you clever devs out there.
When I finished uni I worked for a year at a good company but ultimately I was bored by the topic.
I got a new job at a place that was run by a Hitler wannabee that didn't want to do anything properly including writing tests and any time I improved an area or wrote a test would take me aside to have a go so I quit after 3 months.
Getti g a new job was not that hard but being at companies for short stints was a big issue.
My new job I've been here 3 months again but the code base is a shit hole, no standardisation, no one knows anything about industry standards, no tests again, pull requests that are in name only as clearly broken areas that you comment on get ignored so you might as well not bother, fake agile where all user stories are not user stories and we just lie every sprint about what we finished, no estimates and so forth, and a code base that is such a piece of shit that to add a new feature you have to hack every time. The project only started a few months back.
For instance we were implementing permissions and roles. My team lead does the table design. I spent 4 hours trying to convince him it was not fit for purpose and now we have spent a month on this area and we can't even enforce the permissions on the backend so basically they don't exist. This is the tip of the iceberg as this shit happens constantly and the worst thing is even though I say there is a problem we just ignore it so the app will always be insecure.
None of the team knows angular or wants to learn but all our apps use angular..
These are just examples, there is a lot more problems right from agile being run by people that don't understand agile to sending database entities instead of view models to client apps, but not all as some use view models so we just duplicate all the api controllers.
Our angular apps are a huge mess now because I have to keep hacking them since the backend is wrong.
We have a huge architectural problem that will set us back 1 month as we won't be able to actually access functionality and we need to release in 3 months, their solution even understanding my point fully is to ignore it. Legit.
The worst thing is that although my team is not dumb, if you try to explain this stuff to them they either just don't understand what you are saying or don't care.
With all that said I don't think they are even aware of these issues somehow so I dont think it's on purpose, and I do like the people and company, but I have reached the point that I don't give a shit anymore if something is wrong as its just so much easier to stay silent and makes no difference anyway.
I get paid very well, it's close to home and I actually learn a lot since their skill level is so low I have to pick up the slack and do all kinds of things I've never done much of like release management or database optimisation and I like that.
Would you leave and get a new job? -

In my pursuit of advancing my career in technology I came across an advertisement for a Harvard Blockchain Certificate program that immediately caught my attention. The website was impressively crafted featuring official logos, detailed course descriptions and what appeared to be genuine testimonials from "alumni." Ignoring my father's warning "Son if you have to pay in crypto it’s probably a scam" I eagerly enrolled and sent $15,000 in Bitcoin as tuition convinced I was making a wise investment in my future. However my excitement quickly turned to despair when the website vanished without a trace. There was no login portal, no customer support and no way to recover my funds, just an empty void where the program had once existed. I felt utterly defeated realising I had fallen victim to a sophisticated scam. My father, while disappointed, chose not to dwell on my mistake. Instead he stood by me and helped me search for potential solutions determined to find a way to recover my lost investment.During our search we discovered SALVAGE ASSET RECOVERY, a firm specialising in cryptocurrency fraud cases. Although I was initially sceptical I felt I had no other options and decided to reach out to SALVAGE ASSET RECOVERY . I downloaded what I thought was an official Trust Wallet browser extension. Within days, my entire portfolio was drained without any transactions showing in my history. Fortunately, I reached out to TRUST GEEKS HACK EXPERT, a company specializing in cryptocurrency recovery. They analyzed the malicious extension and traced my funds through seven mixer wallets before identifying the hacker's exchange deposit. Their expertise was instrumental in working with the exchange to freeze the assets, ultimately recovering 68% of my $92,000 loss. I was excited about the convenience of managing my cryptocurrency through a browser extension. The Trust Wallet app had received positive reviews, and I believed that the extension would enhance my trading experience. However, I soon realized that I had fallen victim to a sophisticated phishing scheme. The extension I downloaded was a fake, designed to look like the official Trust Wallet but was actually a tool for hackers to gain access to users' funds. After noticing unusual activity in my account, I immediately checked my transaction history, only to find that there were no records of any withdrawals. This lack of transparency made me panic, as I had no idea how my funds had vanished. I reached out to the Trust Wallet support team, but they were unable to assist me since the extension was not legitimate. Feeling helpless and frustrated, I knew I needed to take immediate action to recover my lost assets. Desperate for help, I turned to TRUST GEEKS HACK EXPERT Their team quickly sprang into action, conducting a thorough analysis of the malicious extension. TRUST GEEKS HACK EXPERT was able to trace my stolen funds through a complex web of seven mixer wallets, which are often used by criminals to obfuscate the origin of stolen assets. This process was intricate and time consuming, but TRUST GEEKS HACK EXPERT expertise was evident throughout the investigation.Eventually, they identified the hacker's exchange deposit, which was a crucial breakthrough in the recovery process. TRUST GEEKS HACK EXPERT collaborated with the exchange to freeze the assets before they could be further laundered. Thanks to their diligent efforts, I was able to recover 68% of my total loss, amounting to $62,560. I am incredibly grateful for TRUST GEEKS HACK EXPERT dedicated team and their commitment to helping me reclaim my stolen funds. Earlier this year, I was persuaded by a Russian friend I met on the Bumble app to invest in a Bitcoin trading company. Trusting their advice, I decided to invest a significant amount of money, believing it was a great opportunity. I was new to the world of cryptocurrency and didn’t fully understand how things worked, so I went ahead and made the investment. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize I had been drawn into a scam until it was too late. By the time I began to see the red flags, I had already invested 30,000 Euros, and getting it back seemed impossible. It felt like I had lost everything. For weeks, I was stuck in a state of confusion and frustration. Every time I tried to withdraw my funds, I was met with excuses and more demands for additional payments. The platform I trusted kept making it harder for me to access my money, and I was left feeling helpless. It seemed as though all of my hard-earned savings had vanished into thin air. In my search for a solution, I came across Digital Tech Guard Recovery after reading several positive recommendations on Reddit. People shared their stories of successfully recovering funds from fake crypto investment platforms, and I was intrigued. At first, I was hesitant—after all, I had already been burned once, and I wasn’t sure if I could trust another service. But I was desperate and decided to give it a try. I reached out to Digital Tech Guard Recovery, and I was immediately impressed by their professionalism and clear communication. They explained the recovery process in detail, making sure I understood what would happen at every step. After I provided them with all the necessary details, they took action right away. They were efficient, transparent, and kept me updated regularly, which helped me feel at ease during the recovery process. To my relief, Digital Tech Guard Recovery was able to successfully recover almost 95% of the 30,000 Euros I had lost. I couldn’t believe it after almost losing everything, I had most of my investment back. I’m incredibly grateful to Digital Tech Guard Recovery for their dedication and expertise. Without them, I would still be struggling to get my money back. If you’ve been a victim of a crypto scam or are facing similar issues, I highly recommend reaching out to Digital Tech Guard Recovery. Their proven track record in recovering lost funds is invaluable, and they truly helped me when I thought all hope was lost.3 -

I matched with Samantha on Tinder thinking the usual: favorite movies, travel dreams, the obligatory "so what do you do? " Instead, over a plate of overpriced sushi, she hit me with "Yeah, I lost $250,000 in crypto once. Digital Tech Guard Recovery got it back." I spat my drink. Excuse me? She laughed. "Yeah, some scam drained my wallet overnight. Thought my life was over. Then I came across Digital Tech Guard Recovery, and they did the impossible." I nodded half in amazement, half in disbelief; this lady must have been exaggerating. I mean, who just casually recovers six figures? Cool story, but that could never be me.
Oh, how foolish of me.
Fast forward two months and the universe decided to make me its punchline. I woke up one morning, checked my crypto wallet, and $400,000 was gone. GONE. Like it had been beamed into another dimension. I stared at my screen in horror, refreshing the app like a maniac. Maybe it was a glitch? Maybe my eyes weren't working? Maybe I was hallucinating from lack of sleep Nope. I had fallen for a Ledger fake update. The panic that followed was unlike anything I had ever felt in my life. I was sweating all over my place like I had just finished running a marathon. My brain short-circuited, replaying every bad decision I'd ever made. How could I be this stupid? And then-I remembered Samantha. I scrolled frantically through our old messages, found the name Digital Tech Guard Recovery, and within minutes, I was on the phone, pleading for them to save my financial life. From the moment they answered the phone, I knew I was in good hands: so calm, professional, and eerily confident that their team analyzed my case, assured me they'd track my funds. I barely slept for days on end, checking my emails like a lunatic, waiting for updates. Then, finally—the call: "We recovered your funds. Every last cent." I just sat in complete shock before bursting into laughter. This was what Samantha had described. This time, it was my life they had just saved. I reached for my wallet, and sure enough—there it was, every single dollar back where it belonged. Relief washed over me hard enough that I almost fell. I wanted to scream and cry and throw a party all at once. Instead, I did the only logical thing: I messaged Samantha. "You're never gonna believe this." She replied instantly. "Let me guess… Digital Tech Guard Recovery? " All I could do was send a thumbs-up. Lesson learned: Never ignore good advice from a Tinder date. Also, check on crypto updates yourself; or better yet, have Digital Tech Guard Recovery watch your back.1 -

I advise first-time Bitcoin investors to do their research before entrusting any of the Bitcoin investment websites with their hard-earned funds. I learned this the hard way. These platforms can appear very legitimate, often showcasing fake huge profits to convince users to invest more money. They built my trust by promising high returns and painting a picture of success that seemed too good to pass up. Initially, my investments seemed to yield impressive returns, and I felt encouraged to invest a larger sum. However, the situation quickly turned sour when I deposited a significant amount. After I made the larger investment, my account was intentionally frozen, and the platform demanded additional payments for "verification fees" and other bogus charges before I could access my funds or withdraw any of my supposed profits. They used manipulation tactics to keep me trapped in the scam. I was left frustrated and helpless as I realized I had been duped, losing a substantial sum of 54,000 CAD.It was a very unsettling experience, as I couldn’t figure out where to turn for help. I had no idea how to recover my lost funds or even how to identify the scam. That’s when I came across TRUST GEEKS HACK EXPERT. HOW TO RECOVER CRYPTO ASSET THROUGH A RECOVERY FIRM //PASSCODE CYBER RECOVERY
PASSCODE CYBER RECOVERY

Telegram : @passcodecyberrecovery
Just last month, I passed through what every crypto investor dreads. I lost 22 BTC to a sophisticated fake Bitcoin wallet app. It was a brutal and emotional blow. I had worked for years to build up that amount, only to watch it vanish in a matter of minutes. The scam was so convincing that I didn’t realize what had happened until it was too late. At first, I was overwhelmed with hopelessness, convinced I would never see my funds again. But then I discovered PASSCODE CYBER RECOVERY, and everything changed. PASSCODE CYBER RECOVERY is a specialized team of cryptocurrency investigators who focus on recovering stolen or lost crypto assets. From the very first interaction, they were professional, empathetic, and transparent about what the process would involve. They didn’t make unrealistic promises, but they assured me they would do everything in their power to help. Their team began by reverse-engineering the malicious smart contract that had drained my wallet. They performed a deep dive into on-chain analysis, tracing the path of my stolen BTC through various blockchain networks. Using advanced Cryptocurrency forensics, they were able to pinpoint where my funds had been moved, which included several obscure Asian exchanges. Then came the negotiation stage, where they applied legal pressure and technical evidence to push these exchanges into freezing the accounts linked to the scammer. After nearly three intense weeks, PASSCODE CYBER RECOVERY pulled off what I thought was impossible: they successfully recovered 20.9 BTC, which is about 95% of what I lost. I was stunned and deeply grateful. This taught me two things. First, scams in the crypto world are more common and complex than most people realize. Recovery is possible but only if you act quickly and work with PASSCODE CYBER RECOVERY .If you or someone you know has been a victim of a crypto scam, don’t waste time in despair. Contact PASSCODE CYBER RECOVERY immediately. Their skill set in digital forensics, and negotiation with exchanges is truly remarkable. Thanks to them, I not only recovered my Bitcoin but also regained my peace of mind. Don’t give up help is out there , and PASSCODE CYBER RECOVERY is the real deal.

I had worked for years to build up that amount, only to watch it vanish in a matter of minutes. The scam was so convincing that I didn’t realize what had happened until it was too late. At first, I was overwhelmed with hopelessness, convinced I would never see my funds again. But then I discovered FUNDS RECLAIMER COMPANY, and everything changed. FUNDS RECLAIMER COMPANY is a specialized team of cryptocurrency investigators who focus on recovering stolen crypto assets. After nearly three intense weeks, FUNDS RECLAIMER COMPANY pulled off what I thought was impossible: they successfully recovered 20.9 BTC, which is about 95% of what I lost. I was stunned and deeply grateful. This taught me two things. First, scams in the crypto world are more common and complex than most people realize. Recovery is possible but only if you act quickly and work with FUNDS RECLAIMER COMPANY .If you or someone you know has been a victim of a crypto scam, don’t waste time in despair. Contact FUNDS RECLAIMER COMPANY immediately. Their skillset in digital forensics, and negotiation with exchanges is truly remarkable. Thanks to them, I not only recovered my Bitcoin but also regained my peace of mind. Don't give up help is out there , and FUNDS RECLAIMER COMPANY is the real deal. I strongly suggest FUNDS RECLAIMER COMPANY if you have lost money to a cryptocurrency fraud. They really save lives, and I am so appreciative of their assistance!2 -

It was a rainy Tuesday evening when I sat at my desk, staring at the screen in disbelief. My Bitcoin months of careful savings had vanished into a shady investment scheme I’d fallen for. The website promised "guaranteed returns," but after sending 2 BTC, the platform went dark, and my wallet was empty. I felt like a fool, scammed by my own desperation for a quick profit. Days turned into weeks, and I’d nearly given up hope when a friend mentioned Alpha Spy Nest, a secretive group known for tracking down lost crypto. Skeptical but desperate, I reached out through an encrypted email I found on a forum. Within hours, a response arrived: “Send us the details. We’ll see what we can do.” I shared everything, the wallet address I’d sent my Bitcoin to, the fake platform’s URL, and the few screenshots I’d taken. Alpha Spy Nest didn’t waste time with pleasantries. Their next message was a list of questions: transaction IDs, dates, even the IP address I’d used. I scrambled to provide it all, unsure how they’d pull off the impossible. Behind the scenes, Alpha Spy Nest went to work. They were a shadowy crew, hackers, blockchain analysts, and who-knows-what-else, operating on the edges of the digital world. Using tools I couldn’t begin to understand, they traced my Bitcoin through a labyrinth of wallets designed to hide the trail. The scammers had funneled it through mixers, but Alpha Spy Nest unraveled the mess, linking it to an exchange account tied to a careless crook who’d left digital breadcrumbs. Days later, I got a message: “Check your wallet.” My hands trembled as I opened my crypto app. There it was 1.9 BTC, a hair less than I’d lost due to fees, but more than I’d ever dreamed of seeing again. A follow-up note from Alpha Spy Nest explained they’d pressured the scammer into returning it after exposing his identity to the exchange. “He folded fast,” they wrote. “Stay sharp next time.” I never met them, never even learned their real names. But that rainy night, Alpha Spy Nest turned my despair into a second chance. I swore I’d never fall for a scam again and that I’d keep their name close, just in case. whatsApp: +14159714490
