Why are job postings so bad?
Like, really. Why?
Here's four I found today, plus an interview with a trainwreck from last week.
(And these aren't even the worst I've found lately!)

Ridiculous job posting #1:
* 5 years React and React Native experience -- the initial release of React Native was in May 2013, apparently. ~5.7 years ago.
* Masters degree in computer science.
* Write clean, maintainable code with tests.
* Be social and outgoing.
So: you must have either worked at Facebook or adopted and committed to both React and React Native basically immediately after release. You must also be in academia (with a masters!), and write clean and maintainable code, which... basically doesn't happen in academia. And on top of (and really: despite) all of this, you must also be a social butterfly! Good luck ~

Ridiculous job posting #2:
* "We use Ruby on Rails"
* A few sentences later... "we love functional programming and write only functional code!"

Ridiculous job posting #3:
* 100% remote! Work from anywhere, any time zone!
* and following that: You must have at least 4 work hours overlap with your coworkers per day.
* two company-wide meetups per quarter! In fancy places like Peru and Tibet! ... TWO PER QUARTER!?
Let me paraphrase: "We like the entire team being remote, together."

Ridiculous job posting #4:
* Actual title: "Developer (noun): Superhero poised to change the world (apply within)"
* Actual excerpt: "We know that headhunters are already beating down your door. All we want is the opportunity to earn our right to keep you every single day."
* Actual excerpt: "But alas. A dark and evil power is upon us. And this… ...is where you enter the story. You will be the Superman who is called upon to hammer the villains back into the abyss from whence they came."
I already applied to this company some time before (...surprisingly...) and found that the founder/boss is both an ex cowboy dev and... more than a bit of a loon. If that last part isn't obvious already? Sheesh. He should go write bad fantasy metal lyrics instead.

Ridiculous interview:
* Service offered for free to customers
* PHP fanboy angrily asking only PHP questions despite the stack (Node+Vue) not even freaking including PHP! To be fair, he didn't know anything but PHP... so why (and how) is he working there?
* Actual admission: No testing suite, CI, or QA in place
* Actual admission: Testing sometimes happens in production due to tight deadlines
* Actual admission: Company serves ads and sells personally-identifiable customer information (with affiliate royalties!) to cover expenses
* Actual admission: Not looking for other monetization strategies; simply trying to scale their current break-even approach.

I find more of these every time I look. It's insane.
Why can't people be sane and at least semi-intelligent?18 -
A year ago I posted on here that I had been working on a game using xamarin for 2 years as a hobby project. Back then you guys encouraged me to publish it.
A year later, I have done just that. I put it on play store for free. No ads. No monetization. Feel free to check it out:

In case anyone missed it, you probably shouldn't be using tiktok. That said, anyone surprised by this behavior is likely generally unaware of how monetization works on social media so carry on.

Visual Studio Code and the Edge browser , so I'm finally trying a new browser and an IDE after years and I can't begin to explain how good of a job M$ has done on these software ... they deserve some applause atleast for now , their browser is pretty darn fast and has a dark theme! The IDE was exactly what I dream of in my sleep (figure of speech) .
Simply amazing , claps to them unless they have some hidden monetization scheme that will come forth over time .9 -
Should I monetize?
I've created a spot-it like playing card generators online utility. There're around 800 users generating around 800 decks every month currently. I'm just wondering if I should think about placing advertisements on the app. I'm not completely in favor of monetization as they bother user experience, but it can give me some extra bucks to create more applications like this.
What do you say? Should I go for advertisements? How much can I earn from it?

@dfox/@trogus can you tell me why when you first started to monetize devRant you chose merchandise (at least when I first joined about 9 months ago that was the only way to support devRant)? Plus, do you think it was a good choice? It seems like ads or in-app purchases would be many devs first thought when they want to monetize their product.3

Anyone has advice for android app monetization? I hear you can make more with a third party, plus, you don't make any money unless they uses taps the ad? What would you go with?4

Tried an ad blocker for the first time yesterday. Well what do ya know? Websites I use will not let me access them unless I turn it off. I KNEW something like this would happen. When they were first coming out a few years ago, I said to myself "If everyone is going to be blocking ads, how will we be able to go to these sites for free?"
I expected the worst. I thought they'd put free websites behind a pay wall, much like ad-free mobile applications I would make. Thank GOD that didn't happen. This system is a lot more fair in my opinion. I'm just glad they don't do the same with popup-blockers. Then we would have an issue.
In all seriousness, as annoying as some websites are with their trashy, misleading, or fake ads, they (kinda) have to be there in order for devs to make money and for consumers to be somewhat happy. That is why I personally will not use ad blockers.6 -

Been developing a website for a few months for a group of people who started a company in their spare time. Basically, everyone puts in about 5 hours a week. The two founders spent a year planning the site, creating mockups and collecting data. Site has user login, 5 main sections that all require custom programming to do what they need it to do.
After a month, the one dude is getting pissy with me because I can't get their site up any faster. I agreed to 5 hours a week, in my spare time for equity to a project that has no clear monetization plan. Sometimes my main job and paying clients eat even that time up.
To date, I've only got about 30 hours of actual dev time, and 15 hours of meetings. The first launch is in sight, but the site is a monster and has more phases to come.1 -
What is the best monetization model on android app store, For both games and apps?
I don't like ads at all. I thought maybe freemium. Please tell me about other models That don't involve ads.
Also can u make android apps with c# in unity?2
