I was around 12. My mother just took a new position as Algorithmic and programming teacher (Mathematics before) for high school seniors. (Around 16-17 in Russia back in a day).
So sometimes, I waited for her after school, listening (just a bit) what she was teaching.
Then one day I was waiting while she was giving an exam of 2 hours to seniors (End of year exam). In 20 minutes, I doodled a thing on a piece of paper and showed my mother. I was correct on all questions and all flow diagrams (Was not called like this back in a day).
From this moment, I knew, programming and logic are for me.
At the end of high school (So I was 17), I received the collective message from most girls in my class saying : “ You felt in love with computers and ignored us”. They were right ☹, I realised it way later.3 -
Job interview in an hour while depressed. And I‘m not ready for the thought of “lying” on how great I am if i don’t feel like it. It feels so wrong.11

Do not give "creative" freedom to your developers. They'll churn out Picasso-style masterpieces that nobody would ever understand or dare to touch.7

Not sure if you'd call this an insecurity but regardless; frontend.
Much of the stuff I develop is meant to be user/privacy friendly.
Like, at the moment I'm developing an end-to-end encrypted notes web application. The backend is a fucking breeze, the frontend is hell for me. I'm managing mostly but for example, I need to implement a specific thing/feature right now and while the backend would take me about 15-30 minutes, I've been only just thinking about how I'm going to do this frontend wise for the past few fucking hours.
My JavaScript skills are quite alright, html is manageable, css only the basics.
And before people tell me to just learn it; I. Fucking. Hate. Frontend. Development. My motivation for this is below zero.
But, most of the shit I write depends on frontend regardless!3 -
It took me a month's time to adjust to working in co-working space last year and it took around similar this to adjust to working from home this year. Both working environments have there own pros and cons but somehow we all find a way to continue working.
Don't know what working environment lies ahead of me once this lockdown get's over but I hope I adjust again in similar manner there too :D -
I just had a package delivered from Hong Kong to Sweden in 21 hours. And estimated delivery was 5-7 days. Good job DHL. Oh, but I wasn't home, so I never got it.4

So i just wanted to say thank you. Everyone on devrant.
It became a safe place for me to rant about stuff, getting feedback from awesome people and so much more. Also i learned some things on dR that making my (dev)life better!
Most important devrant is making me feel way better, when you read about people having the same struggles.
But not only the rants are making this awesome. Its every single one of you.
Thank you, stay awesome!2 -
I get why my prick friend wanted me to get this app - shit's lit my brothers.
Half mad because of this social-distancing shite, especially when I do go out and get to see Apocolypse Survival Barbie stacking her cart with enough bread and frozen products to feed a legion.4 -
CTO for the picture.
This is so real, people are having a bad time because of the covid-19, productivity could be affected by this, my colleagues are having a hard time since they cant realy separate work from work anymore, the situation is hard as it is, i hope we all get through this.
Please Give Loving Comments below so i can show this to my dev/non dev friends that are having a hard time.11 -
4:30am after 6+ hours of coding and the only visible difference is a drop-down that can be opened and closed11

That moment that you need something but your skillset isn't good enough to make it and your time is too limited to learn it.
I fucking hate those moments.26 -
worst part of WFH:
- The work PC is the game PC
- The game PC is the work PC
- Feels like i'm playing while working

The JS Drinking Game:
1. Think of a noun.
2. Google "<noun>.js"
3. If a libary with that name exists, drink!16 -
Client: I want a mobile game with Leaderboards, Social media sign-ins, In-game store, Ads, IAP etc in 2 months
Me: Cool, what’s your budget?
Client: $5020 -
No, this is not a joke/meme.
So I was searching the internet for 2-in-1 laptops -- looking around what could be my next lappy if my current xps13 died. I had a hunch the xps13 convertable is quite overpriced and was looking at lenovo offerings to compare.
This is what one of the largest LT e-shops suggested to buy along with the lappy :)
Dangerous times these are I guess.. Everyone and everything needs protection
