Orchid runs!
It's very far from done, but now I'm motivated to get shit done! My optimizations can now have measurable impact! The hypothetical examples no longer have to be hypothetical!!!10 -
The number of mistagged posts on devRant explains why your "perfect" questions on SO get downvoted.
I mean if you can't choose "joke/meme" category when you are uploading a copied meme and instead just click the first/biggest button labeled "rant" I doubt you can formulate a good question.8 -
I'm so fucking upset with this shitty iPhone. I can't believe there are people who are actually *paying* real money for this crap. Thankfully I am getting paid to use one, otherwise I would flush it in the toilet (but then even the toilet would reject it).9

If I had a dollar for everytime I cussed at the computer screen because my code wouldn't work I'd be rich

Note to self: never EVER buy iPhone again. “It won’t stutter after a year”, they’ve said.
Right now my 6s is just one big overheating piece of mess. Right now I have to charge it 3 times a day. Resprings randomly. Very often discharges 2% per minute. All the time lacks memory. iCloud picture syncing SUCKS. The Lightning cable is the worst excuse for buying overpriced cables which will break after a half of year. The only plus is a camera, how easy it is to update the iOS, included earbuds, iMesssage (but I use WhatsApp nonetheless) and battery widget.
And that’s it.
If someone says ever again that “iOS is the best operating system, it doesn’t have any issues whatsoever”, I would say “stop doping”, because I don’t see why it’s so great. Just while typing this rant my battery decreased from 25% to 15%18 -
Fun drinking game: work on a legacy system for a few hours. Every time you say "what the fuck?" equals 1 shot.3

I want to thank all open source projects and their collaborators.
I want to thank communities such as stack overflow and specialized forums where people make time to help others.
Lastly, I want to thank everybody here by sharing their experiences and making one feeling less alone (or less weird).
I don’t know of any other community aside from devs where they help so much between themselves. I think this is one of the few professions were collaboration is a fundamental part of it.
Thanks.2 -
I was told during my initial interview that the book "Clean Code" is their Bible here.
And it's true. It's lying, unread in drawers and shelves all over the office.15 -
I had difficulty in passing one of my programming subjects during college because of my teacher(3~5years older than me). She's a pretty lady and always wearing lose shirts, I'm on the front row seats, so i always get distracted and can't focus on lectures and exams.
After that semester, i was happy that she's not my teacher anymore. LOL.2 -
Somehow I feel like I personally owe Linus for git.
17:50 Colleague whispers "fuck" and the entire project we've worked on for the last half year responds with 404.
17:55 A quick diagnosis shows that she wrote "rm - rf ../" instead of "./" when she threw out her staging dir an thereby deleted everything.
17:58 git pull, everything is back.
18:15 everything is configured and we're up and running again.
**Alternative Timeline without Version control **
17:58 We start looking through Backup folders
18:20 We're fairly confident to have found the most up to date Backup in /var/backup/newback/v2/june/new/released/ and start copying back into the project directory.
19:30 Some files are missing we start patching shit up.
19:40 I realize how much work went down the drain and start strangling my colleague. The Api seems to do the most important things again.
20:00 My colleagues dead body is hidden and I'm 80% confident that the tasks depending on us should run.
Next day: They didn't run. Every nightly build failed, nobody can do anything useful.
A week later : Shits starting to work again, all lost files are replaced. Replacement for dead colleague still missing though.
It's moments like this that make you really appreciate the luxurys we have nowadays...5 -
Today I have attended one Interview.
Interviewer asked me to write two programs. I wrote .
Even I wrote it correctly, he did not convinced.
He has his own logic in his mind, he told me my programs are wrong.
How can I write the logic in his mind?
Every one had their own logic.
Wrost day in my life , I waited for that interview 10 hours. I felt very sad.4
