Product owner said don’t allow decimals in markup and we disabled decimals. At the 11th hour she said well what I wanted was for them to add decimals and we round up and save the rounded version. They initially type in 20.6 round up to 21 then calculate the percentage. And you refresh the page markup now says 21% not your original value. How is that even smart.4

Not directly programming related, but damn if I'm not going to start signing off all my emails with "consider it and perform" from now on.5

Yes, actually, I will complain that the code I inherited is shit and then proceed to not refactor it2

Me during my last performance review: So I did this, and that, which has this impact, and that impact
Some dude from the higher echelon: what you achieved is nice, but you need to contribute outside of your team too. No promotion for you!
Me during this performance review: ok, so here's what I did and its impact, and also here's my contribution to the company outside of my team
Some dude from the higher echelon: wow why are you doing all that? You need to delegate more. No promotion for you!
I love corporate life!5 -
Avoid Jetbrains products if you value your sanity.
For the last several months, my settings and stored database credentials are wiped out at random. Meaning code styles, indention settings, keymaps, database settings, plugins, local change history, cache, all of it are reset to factory default at random, costing me hours trying to restore it all.
I've updated and it is still happening.
The moral of the lesson is to not pay for dev tools, lest you become reliant on them. You definitely don't get what you're paying for anymore.12 -
I received a ticket today that said
"The customer can access the app fine if they're at their home, but when they occasionally go to the desert they can't access the app"
You can't make this stuff up.
Someone please kill me.14 -
When someone asks you what programming language they should learn, don't tell them the one you prefer.
Instead, ask them what area they plan to focus on, like,
Web frontend: javascript
Web backend: javascript
Mobile apps: javascript
Games: javascript
AI: javascript6 -
It's crazy how the USPTO system works.
Legal offices have webhooks to the data coming into the trademark office. So thousands of legal companies know every step of the process you are on and know the email you are using.
These companies immediately create spam messages like
"congratulations on getting approved for step 4, please fill out this final form to be approved for the review process"
Almost got me a few times because I thought it was a message from USPTO.
Obviously you can always hire a lawyer to handle this stuff but if you can traverse a red-black binary search tree. You can fill out some forms.1 -
i've built a profitable full stack SaaS application, from scratch, by myself, that requires 0 maintenence
and you dont think i have the skills required to hire me?

A dev of mine once committed the env file.
I had to alter the fabric of time, space, and commit history.22 -
Let me share a million dollar worth of advice with y'all
RGB makes your code run faster and gets rid of errors. If it doesn't work, you're not using enough RGB.7 -
Using AI to draw me a table that will look good in my small kitchen corner, just wanted to see some ideas slightly different from basic ones:
"a small table, big enough for only 2 chairs. The table sits in the corner of a room."
.....
*sigh...edit
"the table has only 4 legs!"
...
*sigh...edit
"the chairs are not physically attached to the table"
...
...
...edit
"The table legs do not go through the table and in to the ceiling"
...fuck it.. I'm off to ikea1 -
Over the past few weeks, our students have had some programming exams. To relieve the pressure, I made everyone a card with a little rubber duck. Almost everyone liked them, as well as many colleagues (who also got one :D13

"To-Do List: The Never-Ending Story" 📝
My to-do list is like a magical scroll that keeps getting longer, no matter how much I cross off. It's a testament to the infinite possibilities of coding and the constant pursuit of perfection. -
There was this post in devRant regarding EU battery replacement bill.
Some selectively amnesiac people commented about battery replacement risks.
I wanted to type out that Samsung Galaxy s5 was IP67 with a replaceable battery. Sony XP was IP68.
Somehow, devRant refreshed out of the blue, and now I can’t find the post anymore.
Arrrrggghhh!! Now how will I show everyone that I’m smart - a big battery historian?11 -

Got my purple belt in BJJ. it took 9 years, but what I lacked in skill I more than made up for in stubbornness.

Another department doesn't pass along the files mine needs until 3 days after they were supposed to and us reminding them 3 days in a row
Lead of that same department writes an email saying we promised a week turn around on our side and the files have been in house for a week so they're expecting finalization to be done today for ALL the files : |
Welp me and my manager speed run things and get half done today and we'll finish the other half Monday. If they really wanted all of them we wouldn't have gotten access so late to do our part2 -
I hate looking stupid when I have to ask clarifying questions after the person explaining something to me has left out a ton of information. People assume way too often that I can “fill in the details” from a vague description that they think is complete.4

I tried to build an old outsourced project with a sky high js stack and it's just breaking everywhere. I believe rewriting it in another stack will be faster than figuring out this mess.1

Can't fucking stand permanently lazy devs who don't give a shit about their craft.
Fuck off and go do something else that you actually give a shit about! *
😤😤😤😤🤬

Anybody notice spam is just getting worse and worse? Fucking scum bags spamming me every year about conferences for my current company. I also get a bunch of scum bag spam on my home addresses. One account is practically brand new. I made the mistake of contacting robin hood trading on this account and now I get stupid scam spam on there.
I want to stay professional on the pro emails, but I just want to scream and call them of a bunch scum bags.
If someone wanted to do humanity a favor it would be depopulating spammers from the Earth. This would lower frustration levels on the planet immediately. Scammers and spammers are all the same.2 -
Story Time.
I used to live in a hostel meant for professionals with two strangers in 2017, back when my salary was way too low to rent a flat on my own.
One afternoon I was just sitting around and looked at my contacts list which were about 50-60 people in total.
I started selecting people whom I hadn't spoken to for more than 6 months, and it was almost all of them except 2-3 people which were my brother, mom and dad.
Then I hit the delete button, I guess out of anger or me feeling lonely at the time. I wanted to see who remembers me or tries to reach out, given that I don't have their number.
And all these years later, it's still 2 people who I have in my phone contacts list. My mom and dad.
Since then, I am super exclusive to adding anyone's phone number to my list. I usually save their contact and start a chat on Whatsapp and delete their contact after for 6 months or more. When someone does text, I read their previous chat to remember who they are.
People come and go, but a corner of my mind wishes for that person who makes it into the list.
I kinda feel a little broken as I am typing this, but idk it might be the loneliness kicking in, idk. It is what it is.4 -
Got warned for having low performance. Time to beg my previous employer to take me back when I rejected their offer last year.
If it worked, I will probably need to be a complete asshole to get laid off10 -
Manager getting snippy with me coz one of the 2 urgent things I'm currently working on hasn't been deployed. This is on top of the outstanding changes to the last 3 urgent projects I worked on that have been deployed in a working but imperfect state, the urgent thing I got distracted by and the urgent thing that's next for me to work on.
Someone got a "this is fine" pic?6
