i wonder what happened to the bright eyed 18 year old version of me that had perfect grades and was on top of her shit. nowadays i can barely feed myself without feeling exhausted and I can't read a book to save my life2

Man it is nice to be back on Arch after 3-4 years. That install is way easier than I remember too. From USB to pretty much set up and ready to go in about 30 minutes is pretty amazing.2

I've worked hard today*. I think I deserve to slack off for the rest of the week**.

Lol. Just discovered I still have my account. Created this account when I was like 15. Feels crazy to look at this. Haven't been online for years... I still remember reading through this when I was in school. Now I'm studying in university. Guess it's time to go now?2

Here’s a novel rant no one has ever seen before.
The iPhone keyboard is absolutely the worst input method ever created. Even primitive keyboards from the 80s are more usable.
I would use a madcatz controller to type instead of this garbage given the choice.
And you know what’s a good interface design? Making the music player controls on the lock screen disappear when Bluetooth connects37 -
The fact that I can buy a game for $70 price tag today, and still run the risk of it getting taken away from me, by the company that built it, is why I'll always pirate games.
If buying is not owning, then pirating is not stealing.13 -
my cat waits for me to be really engrossed into coding and then decides she will take up residence on my desk and chase me off by biting my shoulders, arms, scratching my hands, face jfc
raaghhhh
what is this new habit and why
I only get this engrossed like 2 hours a day come on. WHY YOU RUINING MY JIVE4 -
Haven't been here for a long time, kinda amazed I still had an account to be honest. There used to be a bunch of people I chatted with regularly on here, but my mentally ill self decided at some point to self sabotage (surprise surprise) and cut contact with almost everyone.
That said I've gone through quite a bit of therapy, which has definitely improved my outlook on life and allowed me to do some much needed self reflection. Has that made life better? Hard to say, but I like to think I've got a grasp on my mental health now, with the occasional relapse, because shit's a 🌈process🌈.
I'd like to apologize for the hurt I've caused some people here, you know who you are. My behaviour at times has been inexcusable. There's no sugarcoating it.
The past years have been a rollercoaster to say the least. Switched jobs multiple times. Went from doing frontend exclusively, to fullstack, then backend, and now engineering lead responsible for all architecture and infrastructure, learning a lot about myself and people around me along the way. Somehow I managed to get into a somewhat stable relationship, which is still a big WTF from time to time. The company I currently work for has had a metric fuckton of layoffs, just like the company I worked for before that. I can tell the lack of stability in work still affects my mental health a lot, but seeing how I've been growing a lot personally while the market seemingly has gone to shit gives me some level of confidence. I'll be alright.
This is mostly a sign of life to whom it may concern. I'm alive, existence is dreadful but manageable, shit's hard, but it's all gonna be okay in the end. I may or may not post a rant from time to time, as management loves unrealistic deadlines, and the PM can't say no to the CEO for some reason so her work ends up on my plate most of the time as well. Oh and of course the primary product of the company had a codebase which made me want to gorge my eyes out. So yeah, plenty to rant about.25 -
Everyone working a non-tech/programming job I talk to finds this daily standup meetings we have utterly laughable and micromanage-y.
Someone at work thought it would be nice to replace Wednesday's standup half hour with a "Wellness Wednesday" session. We had to find something around/on our desks at home that has a lot of meaning to us and show it and tell everyone why it has meaning to us. I literally couldn't find anything here besides my trusty pistol and I was like "it would be inappropriate to flash a firearm on camera in a meeting, blah blah blah." Maybe I should do more awkward shit like this so they stop this madness.
This is getting ridiculous.9 -
Side project is finally starting to make some money to help cover operational costs. Yay!
Next steps is to probably start a legitimate company lmao.3 -
Soooo.... I'm back after 8 years 😅 Is DevRant still alive? I tried to log in, but I had some problems and I thought "now it's in readonly mode", but finally I'm logged in... and this is my first (1) rant!2

I give up. It‘s impossible to argue with Apple.
I tried to bring my unofficial iOS devRant app "JoyRant" into the AppStore. It was available via TestFlight for years and it wasn‘t a problem there, apparently. Now for the AppStore, it is a problem.
I talked with the Apple review team for 3 weeks and the discussion went in circles.
They said that my app tries to disguise as or to misrepresent another app on the store (the official devRant app, even though it‘s not available anymore, apparently).
I was asked to remove all of the mentions of devRant from any description or any place in the app. I did. Even though it was stupid because how are people supposed to know that they need a devRant account to use my app? I‘m not allowed to mention devRant.
After that, they said that it can not have the name JoyRant because it sounds too similar to devRant.
I changed it to devJoy everywhere, the app, the meta data for the app store, the github page where the required legal crap is hosted, and in the legal documents themselves.
Did it help? No, it didn‘t.
Apple then proceeded to claim that my app is trying to deceive the users into thinking that this is the official devRant app. Even though I have explicitly stated in the description that it is just an unofficial devRant client.
Now apple says that I should "revise the app content".
Which I assume means that I need to make it something different. Yeah. Great suggestion!
So, I will rename the app back to JoyRant and provide it via TestFlight, as it was before.
Thanks for reading. I needed to vent.31 -
Once in corporate stuffy devland a major monopoly-in-their-field client was raging at our tiny company and trying to scrutinize everything we did for whatever reason
The client's head huncho, some department head below the execs or something, insisted he have a code review meeting with the lead developer, which was me, and scrutinize my code in a 2 hour impromptu meeting one random Tuesday. Up until this point I was not allowed to even be introduced to the client so I'm a little ticked my company is throwing me under the bus like this.
So I get into this call, share my screen, guy is raging and asking questions left and right about every line I had written, firing, fuming, shouting... But it's clear he doesn't know how code works. So then I start teaching him how variable assignments work and function calls... He got so bored he left the meeting in 30 minutes and it was never spoken of again lmao1
