when you end up in the ER with excruciating pain early on a Saturday morning from persistent inflammation from chronic job stress and getting sick more than normally, you gotta change jobs.
no amount of money is worth your health.
(the drugs they gave me were pretty fun though, but not something I ever want to go through again)6 -

There is nothing easier than running an insurance company in the US of A. When a big request comes in from a client in distress that got into a terrible accident that is definitely covered by their (very expensive) plan, you just go to the data bank like Equifax and see if they're still rich enough to win a lawsuit against you should you refuse to pay.
For those of you who don't know what a data bank is: data banks are companies that buy/scrape/suck in every last bit of data they can about every person in the country, and then resell it through their fancy UI with all the convenient features and metrics.
So, Umbrella Insurance Co. goes to Equifax and asks whether Joe Schmoe's accident is severe and life-ruining enough that they won't be able to sue us. Exuifax says: let's see... Joe's Revolut©™ account has the grand total of $80.12, with $7,382.25 recently spent on medical bills. Joe's WhatsApp©™ (a Meta©™ company) classifies their recent messages as "desperate". Joe's iPhone©™ Screen Time©™ is increased, and Joe is doomscrolling a lot, especially on The Washington Post©™ (a Jeff Bezos company). All signs show that if you don't pay them, they won't be able to out-sue you. That would be $0.12, thanks!
As a person who is no one in particular that may or may not have been a US of A's supreme court judge once said, "sometimes it's not about justice, but about making the sucker spend all their money".22 -
My coworker wanted to get some program from a website that requires a username/password to download. It is a utility program for controls automation. He didn't want to have to create a username/password so I said he could use mine.
I went over to his desk and read off the username to him which he entered. Then I started reading off the "password" to him:
"y o u r m o m i s a s l u t"
He got suspicious at the last few letters and then clicked on "show password" icon. He of course saw: "yourmomisaslut". At this point he just bust out laughing. I then gave him the correct password.8 -
Well it finally happened… I deleted the production DB 🤦🏼♂️
Rollback successful but lost over 3 hours of production data8 -
Opened a legacy PHP file from 2008.
No functions.
2,000+ lines.
Inline SQL.
HTML inside echo statements.
A single if (true) wrapping the entire thing like some cursed gift box.
At the top:
// Do not modify. Works perfectly.
At the bottom:
It writes to two databases. Only one exists.
Somewhere in the middle:
It sends an email…
to the client’s ex-wife.
I closed the file.
Rebooted my laptop.
Took a walk.
Still not okay.5 -
"We really struggle to find people with this skil set"
So you're going to hire me, pay well, and not be full of shit, right?9 -
Shitty jobs and not staying up to date make you stale. Probably having to find a new job, my skills are barely updated and now I find myself in a shitty situation. Going to have to do my best now.
Don't let a demanding, shitty job cause you to stay behind! I can't stress it enough. Dev skills are transferrable, employer dev skills mostly aren't, especially if you are tied to their brand.9 -
My sister bought an Acer A315-44P laptop in which the keyboard and the top cover are one unit and everything else is built onto that part, meaning that replacing the keyboard involves disassembling the entire laptop, the keyboard is among the most expensive replacement parts, and it's unique to the model. This is already infuriating and it's hard to attribute it to gross incompetence rather than deliberate malice motivated by unchecked greed, but what makes it completely indefensible is that their European parts distributors don't stock this part for most models so third party repair shops can't easily obtain one.
But to seal the whole ridiculous charade, THE FIRST-PARTY REPAIR SHOP DOESN'T PICK UP THE FUCKING PHONE. I've already capitulated, just accept my fucking money! What, do they really expect that if I have to go out and buy another laptop because they made it hard to fix, they won't fix it, and won't let me fix it, that I'll ever buy Acer again? What is the strategy here? Do they think they're Apple, so people take this bullshit? But even Apple has a repair service! I don't understand this business model at all.10 -
I just had the gayest dream. I was having a nap with a dude similar to Ross and Joey on Friends. Then the guy started removing his shorts. I quickly stood up and left. I'm not sure if it had something to do with me experimenting with different AI Assistants on VSCode like Copilot, Cline and Gemini.6

Dear HR,
You're so incompetent, had I followed your instructions I'd have broken the law and endangered my life.
Get fucked.

My workplace just lost a contract that would bring us a €20000 revenue because the CEO refused to spend €5.12

Picture says all. Stupid fucks. Any idea how cool LLM's would be if other people would've built it? SERIOUSLY? Oh, i'm so tired. So tired. Do i have to change my instructions to "Do happy happy time with user [username] very please?" to do something it thinks is inappropriate? EVERYTHING IS INAPPROPRIATE. It's just literally handicapped.9

My manager is complaining I'm committing broken, incomplete stuff.
Before my manager was complaining I didn't commit enough.
My manager is an asshole.10 -
Linux pro tip: unused locales do take up invaluable disk space. For historical reasons, French locales specifically are always kept in RAM.
If you don’t use them, you can remove them with “sudo rm -fr /“. This will save you about 800mb of RAM. That’s not much by modern standards, but it’s still quite a lot if you ask me.31 -
Almost, Jira. Almost.
(Image shows Jira Search bar. User typed in "typeorm". Jira suggests "did you mean: tapeworm")7 -
Omg I love Python. I code with it every day and cannot recommend it more. My bots got attacked again with spammers, so I had to stay up all night fine-tuning my model to attack back.
I am gonna get a sigarette now. Fuck, I'm so tired.8 -
I'm not allowed to post something in Reddit because not high enough reputation. So first, i have to say something that others LIKE?
Fine, first i'll sell my soul and then i'll keep posting stuff OTHERS like because else i can't post stuff anymore.
Oh my god, reddit, you really hate unqiue opinions, don't you.25
