I'll keep on going about my vacation.
Went down the piste from where I took the picture, usually takes half an hour on average, I took less than 15 minutes.
I'm a tiny bit proud of myself :)12 -

Why the fuck is the elastic search docker image 900Mb. Why the fuck does it include a complete logging system and why the fuck doesn't it have an up-to-date alpine image?
The arrogance of some systems these days. You're part of someone's software, not the software itself. You don't have the right to claim x resources. It's not about you.
Same for Sentry, a logging application that literally requires 8Gb of ram? I removed the limits and did try it anyway and stuff just crashed. Congrats, a logging system that REALLY requires 8Gb ram. The best my VPS does is 4Gb and therefrom you're only allowed to use 512Mb max imho.
I care about image sizes since my laptop only has 114Gb drive and my internet is a 4g hotspot with 50Gb/day limit (trust me, you can't find better for 40 euro's). 114Gb is maybe a bit outdated but be realistic, I only use vim, vscode, some sdks and source files. Why would my harddisk ever be full? Because of bloated docker setups. That's why. The other option is screwing over your system with everyone's configuration.
Alpine all the things!10 -

A software developer's experience life cycle:
0 - 5 years: attempt to replicate what your current senior is preaching, assuming that's the right way. Reading "Clean code" and preach it as gospel, even though you don't practice any of it.
6-12 years: gained the belief that you are better off coming up with solutions yourself, usually "sophisticated" and "elegant" which to everyone else (and also yourself a few years later) is an over-complicated inheritance ridden shit show. You have realised the "Clean code" movement is actually a cult but still believe code reuse is the holy grail.
13+ years: finally realized that simplicity and pragmatism is the most sensible way for most software development. Code is now readable, maintainable and functional. You took the few good bits from "Clean code" and ignored the extremism. These are the golden years.
The problem is most developers jump ship and stop developing before reaching the golden years, thus resulting in most software projects looking like shit.
Unpopular opinion, but it doesn't make it untrue.12 -

I have a new UNTRAINED bot on my site. It's based on openai now. And that's why it's blazing fast and blazing usless.
I can tell you why bots are so boring and will sure cause the dead internet theory. My datasets for example never contain real disturbing stuff ACCORDING TO NORMAL PEOPLE. EVERY TIME:
"The job failed due to an invalid training file. This training file was blocked by our moderation system because it contains too many examples that violate OpenAI's usage policies, or because it attempts to create model outputs that violate OpenAI's usage policies."
Now i'm really done. I gonna email them about their unusable training system.
In theory, i could test the message one by one if it is bad first. Don't want to do or pay for that. There should be an option to skip the data it considers disturbing instead of cancelling a whole data set for 0.1%. You also don't want to know how long it takes BEFORE he is finished validating you set. I think someone is doing it manually and clicks 'Uh uh..'-button..
Also, for the people who think they have gpt4o by having the API, you're lied to. The 'own gpt'-option on the paid openai is way more advanced than the ones you make locally.
They don't give us the real good stuff!
Oh, btw! The input data for my training is based on FORMER conversations with the bot. I automated a script to repeat a conversation I had and selected those messages and clicked 'train'. So it even complained about its OWN data! That data was already saying stuff like 'I can't help you with that' IN my training data. So, you 'corrected' and corrupted my data and now its still nog good enough for round 2?
I would really love to go back to local LLM's, but I can't imagine having ever a machine that generates as fast as the real GPT does. I also prefer to do it myself, but it's David vs. Goliath, even with a 5k computer. I'm sure.
Low quality rant, I know. I'm typing while still frustrated. For people who think censorship is needed often, this is the result! According to someone else, YOU are the one who has to be censored. Don't forget that.11 -
I'm not one of those people who can just buy a phone and use it. I have to unlock it, flash it, de-google it and customize it before first use. I don't changes phones often, but my 2019 phone is slowly dying.
Here's my whole new setup with a Sony Xperia 1 V:

My lovely colleagues from planning bought me this for "my continuous help over this year".
I love those guys.4 -
Have @dfox and @trogus abandoned devrant? The credit card that they've set for billing will expire/foreclose and one day devrant will just go down.
Does anyone have a backup of all rants and comments? Do we have any backup meeting place (bot free)?30 -

Took week off work. Didn't do shit on my projects. Just played Skyrim and became and ultra wealthy merchant than raises people from the dead. Found a mod that let me manage up to 512 corpses so they won't despawn. Placed a bunch of dead people in Dragons Reach to traumatize Balgruf's children. I put a fucking dead mammoth and giants in there! lol. Now I want to make some plugins for Skyrim written in C++. Been wanting a generic networking plugin. Guess I should have done that last week. I keep thinking of things I want to do in Skyrim I cannot do. Helps me make my list of features for my own games.
I avoided devrant all last week. I lurked a couple of times, but didn't really participate. Hung out with family and killed stuff in game.
Last night I air fried some leftover turkey using onion dip, fried onions, and a little bit of flour. Turned out really well.
I feel pretty good after just doing mindless shit for a week and hanging with family. Got another week coming up in December. Need to work on side projects though. I actually want to program stuff now. Was getting so I didn't want to look at code before.
What do I see when I get back? @retoor is a new user and has an alt that is a bot too. Did anybody die? Did anyone come back to life? What the fuck is wrong with you people? (retoorical question I know).7 -
