To all my Web Devs and Coders out there. Talking with a friend. We both agreed that we do tend to get more assignments done when we aren't at home?
Do yall agree?14 -
Learning React for my university project! Watching tutorials makes me feel I'm good at coding but when I start practicing my own I can't even write a single line 🥺10

Well today I found out that is perfectly fine to not communicate or look at your phone and be unresponsive while pair programming. They can't even write a single line of code on their own. I'm having to dictate them things by character. How can this be seen as a cultural difference. How the hell are they still employed and the most important question. Why do I need to accomodate to them and find ways to motivate them?
They should be doing what they are paid to do.5 -
I wanted to show my girlfriend what a terminal looks like and what it's for.
Me: So this is a terminal. As you can see...
Her: Oh, like in the movie with Tom Hanks?
Took me a few seconds to understand what she meant 😂6 -
Step 1: start programming from a young age
Step 2: dedicate years to college
Step 3: get a job in a big, respected company
Step 4: do menial tasks that have nothing to do with your educat- wait, what7 -
Recently I've been procrastinating a hell lot by watching random youtube videos, so I made a little Chrome extension to keep me focused. I personally find it quite fun.
Crowwwww is an extension that helps you to stay focused. Whenever you go on a work-irrelevant site like youtube or reddit, a very judgmental-looking crow will appear on the screen and stare into your soul, forcing you to reconsider your life choices and go back to work.

Trying to spend non-work time doing things other than coding. Which means picking up new hobbies. 😅
Currently trying to teach myself how to draw cartoon cats.
Today, I worked on facial expressions.12 -
Some of these things are not like the others. One of these people is a tv scientist not an actual data engineer or data scientist, while another is an activist and while is extremely respected, has no room in a data+ai talk -.-10

One day i type hello world program.
And i was amazed that for the first time someone (something) is doing what i tell it to do.
And that's how i got interest in programming.2 -
I am working for one of the FAANGs. I will soon be completing 4 years in industry. For me I should be an level 2 developer or at least working for level 2.
In my current company I don't think I will get promoted this soon and also, switching internally might now benefit as if I will switch my work at the company won't give me enough feedback to get promoted soon in the new team.
I am thinking of switching to some other company with a level 2 position and work at that level.
Should I continue working at FAANG as it has a nice name and all or switch to some other company with a promotion to grow my skills.
Even at my current company I am. learning a lot but the promotion is an issue.6 -
Yes, senior developers get stuck just as much as junior developers do, the difference is that they get stuck in places that junior developers can’t even access. That is partially because senior developers are expected to do so much more than just simple coding, they need to also grasp and untangle client requirements, communicate clearly and thoughtfully with the team, be some sort of guiding/mentoring/leading figure, make sweeping architectural decisions, and so on and so forth.
A junior developer is struggling with making relevant columns of a table a nice shade of purple. A senior developer is struggling with making sure that implementing new client requirements will not have a destructive impact on the current infrastructure, there will be no regressions elsewhere in the system, tries to pinpoint what prior assumptions the new stuff breaks (it inevitably does), and how to reconcile everything.4 -
OMFG!! I just discover a fucking bug in a library used by thousand of people in scientific community!! 🤩🎉
Started when my program outputting strange result. I was in a huge fight with my supervisor about one of the function from the library. My hunch was telling me that this function is the source of the problem, but he insisted that no such bugs could exist in the library that has been used by thousands of people.
I couldn't reproduce the bug so I just stayed silent at that time,
But now, I finally got the bug showing. Yeah I am gonna shove it to his face next week.✊
I will also let the people who maintain the library know.
Feels so good being able to be a contributor PR to this famous library 😎
The downside is now I can't use this function, I have to implement by own function.5 -
I called into work today and was completely honest with my boss. I needed a mental health day after a huge break down last night. He completely understood and asked if there was anything he could do and told me to take care of myself today.7
