Asked junior how did they find out the location of the bug, got a copy-paste reply from chatgpt explaining the code.
AI is allowed at work, and idgaf if they use it or not. But the whole situation, including the fact of not just replying “I used it to understand/solve the problem”, makes me wonder if SE as we know will end not because AI will replace us, but because AI will make all the fears people had with stack overflow, come true, but worse.
At least with stack overflow people needed to be able to form the question or to search on the website lol.3 -
Not posting as often lately because my childhood dream — a Nintendo DSi — finally arrived, in time for my birthday. More of a gift to that teenage boy who’s dead now than to his older trans female counterpart, but still.
Been playing Pokémon HeartGold, enjoying my life, all due to things improving at work & medication cumulative effect kicking in. Finally.
Without burning internal pain, a poet ceases to be a poet. I rarely write now. I still have wild dreams, and I write down snippets for them not to be lost when I’m properly awake, but I just… don’t have that strong of an urge to share them here. Maybe I’m not as dependent on someone else’s validation anymore.
I’m planning to team up with someone who can draw, so we can make zines, as suggested by you. If you can draw — let’s talk!2 -
so which job pays for improving an existing thing and not being a tool for your boss's whims? I guess the answer is a house-helper cause devs for sure aren't paid for clearing a shitty codebase.
i recently made a commit because i was do angry at the issue . this was the message "fixing a stupid bug from previous owner". it got squashed but i still felt better lol.
there are a few classes in our codebase that are so infuriating that i want to run a bulldozer on them and build from the ground up. multiple bugs ate caused from them, but we simply ignore because we know that our monkey iq QA won't be able to replicate them and we won't be answerable.
I hate to be in this position. the mgmt won't be giving me time to fix this shit but rather want us to add 2k more features to this Frankensteins monster.
adding to this, I can't get my satisfaction creating some hobby project and solving issues in that coz A) it won't be as massive as my company proj and B I won't be interested in building a dimmy project for a longer time, which does not attract any actual users :/1 -
I had a zoom meeting with a new company who came looking for ME. I did NOT look for them. I already have a job (but they pay 3-4x more than my current job).
It went well. How the fuck was this a technical interview. Guy only asked me what ive worked on so far by now. Nothing technical n shit
At the end
Hr asked me how much bands i want 💰💰💰(here we fucking go again)
I had to stall it and avoid question. The guy started rolling his eyes and turned off his webcam. The fuck is your fucking problem Bitch?
Then she said we cant move to the next 76th interview unless i say range or minimum. I don't give a fuck anymore. I said my minimum
She started writing it down and, i have never in my life seen someone disconnect a zoom call after that.
Literally hr was saying Thank u for taking the time to join the interview, the guy also said thanks, i started saying thank you for your time an- they fucking disconnected the fucking call. In the middle of my fucking sentence. I did not manage to finish my fucking sentence from how fast they disconnected.
NOW I'LL ASK FOR DOUBLE OR NOTHING AT THE END INTERVIEW DUE TO THIS BEHAVIOR. GET FUCKED4 -
I’m a junior developer on a very small team (4 devs total including me and the manager).
Because we are so small, we work in silos. We individually work on issues and rarely work together.
There is a more senior dev that I really would like to work more with. I feel there is a lot to learn from him because he has the experience and skill sets that I would like.
What’s the best way to work with him more? Should I just ask him? Or is it better to find a more indirect way?7 -
I don't why religious texts like Bible or Quran has things like "if you don't believe or you shouldn't believe other things or because they didn't believe" etc, some kind of explanatory phrases about believing their texts.
Almost like it's made up and written by humans.
Get to the wisdoms already.4 -
Those infamous whiteboard interviews: As if the pressure of solving complex problems on the spot isn't enough, now I have an audience watching me scribble code like I'm Picasso with a marker.3

Every time i invest the little leftover money i have into crypto i always fucking lose that fucking money32

My job is introducing a new system to (legally) avoid some taxes for the employees and get then more netto compensation. But in the meantime, they have removed all benefits of having a (free) home office. No free screens, no free chair, no free keyboard/mouse, ...3

Had to fight demons to unclog this fucking toilet 🚽🪠🪠🪠
Shit so Huge the toilet got stuck. Water couldnt flush from my Extremely Big Fat Shit. I could also see the big shit i shitted. It was so huge and fat like its a Python🐍
While plunging it stank SO bad. I suffocated from the 6-hour decomposed shit that was stuck there. God it was bad. U guys are lucky to not have seen this monster💩
But i succeeded. I flushed it. Now its as clean as the bumholes of corporate people and hiring managers11 -
After 10 years of pain. The sweet delight I got from deleting Jira. Better than squashing any bug.6

Last time I was here I was in college. 🤓
Hello world, again 🫂
I graduated and now I have a job as a developer for two years now.
So much ranting has been happening and I'm excited to tell you all about it.
PS: I already had my first canonical event (Prod deployment at 5 pm ... Was not fun ... Wasn't me if you're asking)1 -
I have always thought I work with morons. Now I know for a fact I work with a bunch of morons! What kind of idiot commits node_modules and apk files? What kind of moron creates a git repo without gitignore?5

alright, i give up
i'm just going to have to work the rest of my life
the government takes nearly half of everything you do anyway.
income from your saas? taxed.
risked and stressed earned profits from intraday trading? taxed.
money chilling getting interest in a savings account? taxed.
your 50+ hour work week salary? taxed.
but don't worry, houses start at an affordable 500K

Finally back from my hot blonde gf after 0.6 days, time to take the biggest shit now in the shitter12

I got a crap raise — lowest I’ve ever gotten anywhere, and well below inflation — despite busting my butt, having somewhat better health and therefore productivity, etc.
I complained to my boss about it, and said it was insulting. He said that direct managers have zero say in raises, and instead it’s entirely up to execs and HR. Makes sense, since nothing makes sense at this company.
Anyway, he apparently talked to his boss, who talked with his boss, who talked with the execs and HR, and they decided to give me a raise on my raise, a whole $1k/year more, all the way back up to the usual insultingly-low 3%. Yay.
Their reasoning?
“Money is tight.”
The last all-hands?
“Record profits! Record sales! Record numbers across the board! And most of all: record profits! Give yourselves a round of applause for making this all possible!”
Money is tight, eh?
I hope they get smushed by a meteor, given a snuggle-struggle by a roving Somali gang, or kept warm for the rest of their lives by another Hawaiian/Californian wildfire.14 -
I keep forgetting what a massive pain in the ass it is to use dynamic libraries in anything other than C. I'm genuinely contemplating defining a serialization-based API and talking to plugins with a blob->blob function pair.8

I have a recurring problem with Typescript where I can't search types for errors because all search engines are flooded with questions and articles about type checker errors.20
