The state of operating systems in 2024.
Windows - has a user interface that changes with every update so Microsoft can push ads even though it costs $200
Mac - an unusable interface designed solely for consuming media anchored to hardware that costs 4x what it should
Linux - absolute freedom to do everything you want so long as you don't want to play games, connect to Wifi, or listen to audio
I'm just going to go be a beet farmer in the 1600s61 -
Here’s to a hopefully better 2024!
Let’s all tell our bitchface thundercunt micromanagers to fuck off, find better employ elsewhere, and finally make progress on that side project that was our world several months ago.
And if the world continues going absolutely mental, may all of you find a peaceful meadow away from everyone and build yourselves wonderful little cottages.6 -
2010: having so many toolbars intalled in the browser you can barely see the actual webpage.

Today, i have never been embarrassed like this in my life.
I started onboarding sessions with this guy. We were on teams call. It was a knowledge transfer session. Hes explaining how the system works. Then tells me which programs to install.
I was searching through allowed programs to install. Installed notepad++ (who tf uses that in 2024?) Installed snaggit. Then had to install putty. Instead of writing putty i unconsciously without thinking wrote pussy

he then said "yea you can find that too but not on this website lmfaoooooo🤣😹😹😹😹"

So apparently I own land in dubai. Like three separate mortgages based on the email I received.
Your request (Mortgage Registration)
with request number xxxxx / 2024
has been completed
and you can print your issued certificate from this [link]
I've stripped out the numbers and link.
After confirming it was safe I followed through on a old spare cellphone, and yep, I own three mortgages for properties in dubai.
Except obviously I don't.
Someone used my name, an american, to register mortgages in dubai. *Nice* properties according to the pictures.
What started out as a scam email, or what looked like a scam email, went to an actual government of dubai website, with real mortgage registrations.
How in the fuck does that happen?
The only thing I can think of is someone committed identity fraud, and/or an alphabet agency went through the list of known political dissidents, set up a bullshit mortgage in a questionable territory, and are now using that as a pretext to monitor 'extremists with foreign ties.'
All that for some guy on the west coast that hasn't attended a political rally in his entire life.
Must have been that sign I held at sixteen years old by the side of the road that said "bush lied us into a war, and people died."
or maybe it was that time I told a really enthusiastic obama supporting police officer that it amazed me obama had time to win the nobel peace prize what with all the bombings he carried out against foreign civilians.8 -
So I just had this job interview with a "startup" (side note: who the fuck still calls limping companies "startups" in 2024? That is sooooo 2010s).
There was this tattooed and very pale girl (you just know the vibe), the mandatory Norse bearded tall guy and the balding, "I'm-in-my-fifties-but-I-am-not-a-square, maaan" sleasy-looking white guy in a button up shirt but no suit jacket. The whole stereotypes gang came looking for their missing nerdy Indian.
The sleasy bloke goes on and on on a looong tirade on how they're "a tech innovation academy", how they "move fast and break things" and they "run smoking hot", so that "long nights are to be expected".
So, they usual red-flagging shit.
Then they all went on a "but we're not like all those companies that look exactly like us" word salad about "sustainability and a healthy work life balance", with their "highest value" being "the utmost respect at all times". I'm nodding my head at the meaningless splurge until they fart out the sentence "for example, cussing while talking with colleagues is a fireable offence".
If some hustling enterprise rather prefers a posh working environment, one can adapt to such circumstances. Provided, of course, that said enterprise adheres to the administrative coherence expected from a culturally refined institution. Mostly by compliance, from the leadership, to a rigidly predictable working schedule.
Now, if the bloody curs want coder dogs that work assfucking hours with a shit eating grin, they better swallow our fucking sailor mouths. Fuck, I've done twenty hour shifts getting my ass kicked in dark startup fisting/rush rooms. If unable to yell at any blabbering cocksucker to go stick his fucking opinions up the bitch who crapped him, then I ain't gonna bloody be there.
TL;DR they can either have a "utmost respect" working environment XOR a "fast and hot" daily hustle.
After they crapped out that oxymoron I could barely hold myself to avoid saying "sorry, I do not partake in any of the psychedelics you must be on".
On to the next interviews!9 -

I know this platform isn't extra active and doesn't have tons of people, especially not from EU, but I figured there might be people here that care about video games but might not be aware of the "stop killing games" initiative. Feel free to ignore this if this doesn't interest you
So the initiative just moved to the EU citizen incentive stage. And if do care about games and dislike companies pulling the rug from under legitimate customers, take some time to sign the EU incentive here: https://citizens-initiative.europa.eu/...
you can read more on this entire thing ok

Today during a follow-up meeting of the grand project I'm workng on...
TL: ... and I want to start working on the production environment and have it ready by next month.
Me: (interrupts) hold up! We are not ready, we have a huge backlog of technical tasks that need to be addressed and we are still not in possession of the very crucial business and functional requirements that you are supposed to provide. The acceptation environment is just set up on infra perspective but does not have anything running yet! The API we depend on is still not ready because you keep adding change tasks to it. We have a mountain of work to do to even get to a first release to integration yet and there is still the estimations on data loads and systems... your dream will not be possible until at least Q2 of 2024.
TL: stop being so negative @neatnerdprime and try to be more customer friendly. I want it by the end of the next month.
Me: remember what I said to you about moving prematurely. Remember I don't take any responsibility if things break because you rush the project. Please, reconsider!
TL: I just want it, please do it

People at work found out Teams in a nightmare and really screws with your normal email address processing. They also found out it isn't free with the shit tier of Office (or wherever it is bundled). So for everyone but sales there is no Teams. Whew... However, for the tech dudes: electrical and software we made a custom Discord server. Of course my avatar is "trolling DiCaprio".
Some technical and some not work stuff has gone on with this server. Kind of gives the tech people a place to talk and joke.
devdude: Apologies that I saw this (some question I had) too late to prevent you from walking upstairs.
me: oh, the exercise trauma!
devdude: it's 2024 and we still have to walk up and down stairs
me: I was expecting flying chairs like on Wall-E
devdude: Me too! that's why I put on this much weight so I can be prepared for when the chair finally is here.
me: That is the exact opposite of helping this tech along.
Another thing I noticed about my work place. The BMI of employees seems to increase the closer to a break room you get. The company is fond of bringing donuts periodically. Coincidence I am sure. The problem is I am right next to the break room... Yes, my BMI went up a bit when I moved to my new desk. Before I was much further away. Now I am on a low carb diet. I am going to break the stats damn it!1 -
OMG... this client is killing me...
So they are writing a Java / SpringBoot app for whatever. For some reason they decided to write it in the overcomplicated way, i.e. using a custom Spring's BeanPostProcessor that changes the eventual type of some beans, causing some weird ass issues, causing the app to fail to boot up if built on some systems and start up just fine if built on others (https://stackoverflow.com/questions...).
I've advised the client (devs) to simplify the architecture and avoid using type-mutating BPPs (bcz.. you know.. noone does that..).
Instead, the client created a task for me to "remove the build logic creating JAR packages" and another "Create a shell script manually assembling the CLASSPATH list and launching the application"
omg... what the hell is going on? Am I on camera? This can't be real... in 202-fucking-4 in a greenfield project!!!

Let me be honest. I've been freelancing full-time for 2 months now (started 1st Jan 2024) and this feeling of not working for a company is making me feel weird.

I'm sure I'm just overthinking.6 -
Yearly angular rant.
I am doing since 2023
https://devrant.com/rants/10263715/...
and yep, angular is still shit in 2025
And still maintaining a high level, business critical, giant angular set of web portals, and some more projects with an angular UI that has to do with AI projects.
Of course not my choice, I'm forced to use this pile of steaming shit.
Year by year they keep releasing a new version and I always hope they get their shit togheter.
Every year is worse.
Instead of fixing this half-baked, ill-fated, broken clot of hacks rigged togheter, they keep adding cosmetic shit and useless no-one-asked ever features.
They added signals when there are not 1, but 2 mature, battle-tested frameworks (rxjs, ngrx) that already do it better.
They added @if @else etc etc. syntax after 10 years people were telling them that using that shit *ngIf and ng-container and templates was a shitty hot mess.
The whole change detection system is still the worst, clunky designed, cake of shit, requiring for real world applications to juggle with change detection services, change detection policies and control value accessors, which basically forces you to reinvent the most complicated wheel ever for what a ton of other frameworks already do out of the box without getting you bald from hair-pulling late-night hours.
Even AI can't fathom it. Give it to Copilot, GPT, Claude or whatever, and as soon as you get something more complicated than a form that sends a class to the backend or some mapping classes they will flip up, get all worked up and write completely utter shit that doesn't work.
I won't get into the projects details but I had to build some complicated UI and it has baffled me what fucking triple backflips I had to write to make some UI elements work smooth.
Jesus, why the fuck people keeps unleashing this pile of shit on me?
Why is it even used? There are a TON of healtier alternatives.
As of 2025, my christmas wish is still to have an 1v1 with angular devs in an octagon to shove my fist in their skull to check out what kind of twisted donkey shit is in there.
Seriously some improductive dumbass framework here, and if you like it, you're a shit programmer.16 -

The Coding Apocalypse: A Dev's Rant
June 14, 2024
Okay, gather ’round, fellow code warriors, because it’s time for a good ol' developer rant. If you're reading this, chances are you’ve already faced the dragon that is modern software development, and you’re somehow still using "Agile" as a life preserver while the ship is sinking. So let's dive into the chaos that our world has become.
Here’s the thing: We’re living in a paradox where every other day there's a shiny new framework promising to be the “ultimate solution” while ignoring that it's just recoil from the last big mess. I mean, can we talk about JavaScript for a second? I’m pretty sure if you stand still long enough, a new JavaScript framework will spontaneously generate from the void. Do we really need another one?
And don’t get me started on Sprint Planning. It’s like playing Tetris with stones while blindfolded, hoping that all the blocks land perfectly. Spoiler: They don’t. The product manager’s eyes glaze over as they nod approvingly to your estimates, secretly extending deadlines in their minds. The 'flexible' deadlines then become rigid, unattainable goals, and who gets the heat? The devs, of course.
Also, can we address the insanity of microservices? Sure, splitting a monolith into microservices sounds fun—until you’re drowning in API calls and Docker containers. Debugging a distributed system is like trying to untangle a pair of headphones made of spaghetti.
Oh, and if one more person asks if we’re "leveraging AI" and "blockchain technology" for our simple CRUD app, I might lose it. Sometimes, folks, the wheel doesn’t need reinventing. It just needs a little grease.
Finally, remote work. Blessing and curse. Sure, I enjoy the freedom of working in my PJs, but the endless Zoom calls are killing my soul. Breakout rooms? More like breakdown rooms. The Slack notifications? Let’s just say my sound settings have a hair trigger on mute these days.
So here’s to us, the devs. The ones who stare into the abyss of JIRA tickets and laugh in the face of mounting tech debt. May your coffee be strong, your code refactored, and your deployments ever in your favor.
End rant. Back to the trenches. 🚀💻6 -
The ruling government coalition of my country officially prohibited ANY pay raises in 2024 and is likely to limit them until 2026, obliterated running tax exemption agreements on Intellectual Property specifically targeting software developers, raised tobacco taxes by 25%, killed fossil fuel-powered company cars while barely investing ANYTHING in electric infrastructure, and severely cut public transport funding.
AM I SUPPOSED TO JUST SIT BACK AND TAKE A YEARLY 5000 EURO LOSS WHILE MY MARKET VALUE INCREASES?? WTF man.
Good job centrists, greens, socialists and liberals. The only thing I can do to punish them is by voting for extreme left or right. Way to go to turn a law-abiding, moderate citizen into a riled-up, disillusioned mofo.12 -

I've only been using it for one day, but the most striking thing about going from VSCode to Neovim is the performance incrase.
VSCode has some noticeable input lag, but Neovim, even running in wsl2 (AN ENTIRE OPERATING SYSTEM VIRTUALIZED) has none.
That's sort of insane. An ENTIRE OPERATING SYSTEM is less heavy than a single instance of a bloated Electron app.
The absolute state of desktop development in 2024. Yes, VSCode is a fuckin amazing editor. But I can't help but think it's built like resources and performance were never truly a concern beyond "good enough".22 -
In 2014 I made a promise to myself that I will never work again in webforms again. Next day I put a resignation notice to my boss and said : "I have dignity". That was my last day when I looked at aspx file. Fast forward to 2024. I break my promise everyday for the last half a year. I can't quite because I don't see any job offers paying that handsomely as 3-4 years ago and I fear that now it may be difficult to find any work at all... I am imprisoned again in VIEWSTATE :(3

I spent a whole day trying to debug why the backend would stop sending data after a while (-> it filled up its connection pool)
but after I turned pooling off, there were a number of dangling Client-Idle-Read DB connections
//not using Entity Framework in these N services, it's pure SQL and DB-AccessLayer here
Never happened before, looked up conf, looked up SO
Changed connectionClose to mandatory Dispose
Still didnt work.
long story short. Turns out in 1 of the services, the DataReader to POCO static method, was disposing/closing the READER and not the CONNECTION.
I sent it as tuple instead of 2 separate variables (reader, connection), and the Item1, Item2 got mixed up (:
Totally my fault, and imma avoid name-less tuples from now on like they a plague -.- thats my 2024-resolution6 -
So I have been setting goals for my interaction with people on devrant. I had the goal of getting someone to spray liquid out of their mouth in response to something I posted. I believe I had one person self report on this (maybe two). My next goal was getting someone to shit their pants in response to a post. I figured with @b2plane here my chances were a lot higher. As of Nov, 2024 nobody has reported on this. That goal still stands.
Maybe some new goals for this next upcoming year should be:
1. get someone to rage quit (not sure this in a good goal)
2. get someone to "dad splain" to me
3. triggered downvotes (I have had some in the past, so this is a recurring goal)
4. inspire anti-posts (some of you are natural inspirers it seems, respect)
5. actually create funny memes (maybe not possible, shitposting will continue though)
Does anyone have ideas for some good edge lording goals?10 -
It is 2024 and C# doesn't seem to have a simple way to parse json data into dynamic objects. It wants some husk classes to read into. I will have to find a good third party library for this. I was thinking C# would have this, but no. I see there is something from asp stuff, but I have no clue what I have to import to get that.8

Did I suffer through 2023? Hell yes! Fuck 2023! A LOT of doubt, anxiety, thinking that I live wrong somehow.
Yet, I’m completely satisfied with the results of 2023, with what I was able to accomplish. It means I do, in fact, live my life right. If I carry on doing what I do, I’ll be getting what I get. Here’s what happened to me in 2023:
- Cat!
- No more sugar
- No more smoking
- First time reading paper books in 15 years
- Made me a new website (miloi.am/engine) that, for the first time in my life, isn’t about me as a job candidate, but about me as a person.
- SENT MY DEVRANT LINK to my CEO! Dreaded this coming out for YEARS. Finally did it. He read my posts, told me I’m free to be who I am, told me he already knows me well, that he wasn’t surprised, and overall didn’t care much.
- New name, new pronouns
- Learned how to cook: soups, pancakes, falafel, other popular dishes. Most importantly, now when I go through the store, I’m not afraid of thinking about cooking. I look at something, and I know how to cook it, more or less.
- Found a good psychiatrist, got properly diagnosed, got properly prescribed
- Made a FIRE architecture at my work
- Conceived (and partly implemented) four monetizable side projects (that I can’t monetize yet because of my passport situation)
- Several VERY important insights that completely changed who I am. Several super crucial self-therapy skills.
Let’s see what happens in 2024 😛4 -

So I wrote some code to sort images in folders based on dates.
Like 2024>06>12.
I thought thats a good little script for GPT to help me out as I wanted to write it in rust.
Everything was fine and after processing all images and videos for 24 hours I was happy.
My test runs worked well.
Two days passed and I realize something.
Some images are not put in date folders. Why? Well I guess a little bug.
Starting to dive deep and checking if other images are in folders.
I see that I have images in folders since 2015 for most months and dates.
But why are some not put in exact day folders.
So another deep dive and I find out that the creation date is different to the folder the images are in.
Often its off by months.
Turns out I forgot to double check how the code generated by GPT maps the time between image creation date and unix epoch to a date folder.
It was just doing a division by an approximation of seconds that a month has, a year has, and a day has.
This caused things to be completely off the further away we go from 1970.
Lucky me that I did not mess up the creation dates :)
Looks like another 24 hours run5 -
My own little version of moore's law:
In 1986 the connectome (the brain) of c. elegans, a small worm, was mapped. It would take decades before the research caught up to the point where we had the hardware to simulate it.
In 2024, we have successfully mapped, and fully simulated (to matching observed behavioral data) the brain of a fruit fly, a total of 139,255 neurons and corresponding connections.
Thats a 38 year period.
If the period is roughly 40 years, and the leap in successful neurons mapped *and simulated* is by an average of 461 times the prior number of neurons, then by 2062-2064 we will be simulating box jellyfish, fruit flys, zebrafish, bees, ants, honey bees, cockroachs, coconut crabs, geckos, guppys, sand lizards, snakes, skinks, toirtoises, frogs, iguanas, shrews, bats, and even moles.
By the dozens or hundreds in any given simulation.
By the year 2100-2104 we'll be fully simulating the brains of mice, quill, crocodiles, birds such as doves, rats, zebra finchs,
guinea pigs, lemurs, ducks, ferrets, cockatiels, squirrels, mongoose, prairie dogs, rabbits, octopi, house cats, buzzards, parakeets, grey parrots, snowy owls, racoons, and even domestic pigs.
And in the years between 2100 to 2140, starting immediately with domestic dogs, we will ramp up and end with the capacity to simulate human brains in full, probably by the dozens or hundreds.
This assumes we can break the quantum barrier of course.20 -
This morning i received an email from the boss reporting their record breaking profits for 2024 by now
1.8B €
Then for other subprojects
27B €
21B €
Etc
All net profit. More than about 130B € profits just in these first 5 months of 2024
This made me realize
My 17€ an hour (GROSS income not even NET) Is pennies. Im working to literally make someone else rich
I gotta switch sides and code some crypto coin to scam people for millions asap and see how its like living like those bosses for once14 -
Want to give Google a giant "fuck you" to their AI results?
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/...
I now have a custom google search that Firefox defaults to. It looks like I don't get AI results on first try. YMMV11 -
The reason I don't use Linux on my desktop is its hobby of saying “fuck off” spontaneously and without warning when I need it the most.
A designer friend shares his After Effects project and asks to export that to Lottie? Fuck off.
Your Android phone decided to brick itself with an OTA update (yep, happened to me, thanks Sony), and you need to unbrick it? Fuck off!
A musician friend wants to connect his audio card (that of course has no Linux drivers) and record some bass riffs? Tell him to fuck right off mate.
Your boss suddenly asks you to check an MS Access file for him as he's en route to an important meeting? Yep, you guessed it — fuck off.
Your government now requires your tax papers to have digital signatures? Fuck off, it only works for Mac and Windows.
Want to connect an old digital camera? Would you please fuck off?
I know I'm gonna get heat from Linux fanboys, especially on this platform. After all, a designer should know how to export to Lottie if he's a real designer, you should've bought a better phone, your friend should've had his laptop with him, your boss should've used open source tools instead of MS Access… Wait, he was tasked that from above? Then his boss should've used open source tools! Government mandates digital signatures? Well, tell them to port that to Linux! Start a riot! Get a better government! Move to a better country! Digital cameras? Who uses them in 2024, especially old ones! Are you some kind of hipster?
I know preparing for corner cases is bona fide premature optimization, but that's the whole point — with Mac or Windows, you don't have to prepare at all. You always have options. With Linux, your number one option is to have Windows handy if need be.
Linux works perfectly on my server, but not on my laptop.24 -
Developer vs. user experience: it's 2024, tech is used by the masses, and still, every day, I see messages that something "failed", an "error occurred" or that I did something wrong trying to use something supposedly simple like entering a phone number or a bank account IBAN into a web form.
Worse, I remember being part of teams coding and releasing antipatterns like that, spending time in hour-long best practice discussions and still failing to deal with user "errors" in the end.
AI, the deus ex machina supposed to obsolete developers, does the exact opposite of development: fail and err, but always find some positive and polite words to gaslight its users and make them feel happy.
AI will replace developers just because it's better in being nice.6 -
working at an MNC is like dating the hottest girl in campus. everyone stares at you, but only you know of the tantrums and the expenses that you have to take.
Every random aunty and uncle I come across gets a wide smile on their face when i tell them my company's parent company name. i goto this temple , and there, one uncle was introducing me to his wife "meet X ji's son , he is at Y company" .
previously when i worked at a startup, most of the time , people were like "huh? what does this company do?" and when i would explain them how our DBs are sending billions of notifications and interaction each second, they would be like "oh , so you work at IT" , YES DUDE, YOU WANNA GIVE YOUR DAUGHTER'S HAND NOW?
And this mentality is sick. i loathe the place where i currently work. i loved my previous org and now am just here coz my mom is too scared to let her son live in a different state.
The only reason a person works in a company is money and WLB. Indian service based MNCs don't give a penny more than basic industry standards. and when they want their employees to be available 2 days a week + x number of days when any CEO , ED or other sugar daddy is coming to office, you get an idea of the shitty Work life balance.
my previous company was a b2b startup, it always paid me more than industry standards and we had wfh until a notification came to enforce hybrid working bh end of 2024. till now not a single person from my team has relocated. All i had to do was to *plan* for living in a state and my mom got cold feet :/
i think so much about my future. i earn decent, so i wanna spend it to live and grow.
i wanna go party at friday nights and go on night outs. i wanna meet this cute school crush at anytime after office and don't worry about the 9 pm curfew. i wanna go look for a new home in a different area and get out of this parking hellhole. i wanna prepare for exams and do a hugher studies from aborad.
everything needs money and growth mindset. money makes money and i am trying to earn every minute. but a chained mind cannot fly . a non growth mindset will not let you evolve. and someone needs to tell it to people who control my every . fucking. action
i have seen people switching from one big name to another. i personally feel that you are just too comfortable in the environment of big names and deliberately ignoring the smaller names which are doing the actual build fast and break reality stuff. reward is proportional to risk and if you are okay with just attributing to a big name, then that's on you20 -

It drives me crazy, will we ever find out?
Some people say he's on a German Opel/Vauxhall forum now having fun with vroemtards instead of us. I do find myself in a jealous position. "Ngl" like Sid would say. Don't judge, many 30+ year old speak gen Z.
Also, I've heard he drives daily to work in a Lada from an communist era. He has to because he went from self employed back to a loan slave and his new boss refused to pay his expensive public transport tickets while being late every time.
But one thing is almost certain at the moment! He's gonna marry!

Well this is interesting:

Will be interesting to see what happens here. I knew there was a jack up on prices for accessories. Never imagined it would be a lawsuit. TL;DR; I need your advice regd. a new workhorse of a laptop and ARM/MS Surface10/Laptop6 for this purpose
So my hi-end dell XPS (9350) keeps annoying me with its screen flickering. And it's an 8 year old ultrabook with 16G of RAM that I'm using extensively for development, devops, researching and whatnot. 16GB RAM is also becoming...not enough for all of it.
So I'm passively looking for an upgrade. I like the 13" profile (ultrabook style) and battery life, so I'd like to stay away from gaming laptops.
There have been talks about ARM being the new thing. I always saw ARM as a consumer-grade CPU arch (browsing, movies, music, docs, etc.), but the internet says that the new MS Surface devices will have ARM/Qualcomm built in and can compete with MB Pro in terms of performance (ref.: https://windowscentral.com/hardware...) and they are allegedly released this spring.
I'm not much of a hardware person, I prefer staying on the logical level of things, so I want to ask you, people smarter than me, what do you think? Is it a feasible upgrade for an XPS13 (i7 Skylake/16G RAM/4k touch)? I'll be running code and image builds A LOT, using JetBrains IDEs and doing similar resource-intensive tasks. I don't care at all about GPUs - I don't use them (integrated graphics has always been sufficient).
What else should I consider?
Any alternatives?
P.S. while I can't stand Windows, I actually like MS's hardware. They are good at making it.14 -
Drag-to-select in Samsung's "My Files" app is a disaster.
If you don't move your finger and stop dragging towards the top or bottom, it goes into "drag-and-drop" after one second. When you release your finger, it unselects everything, so you have to start over.
This is why every mobile file manager needs range selection. This means tapping two files, tapping a button, and everything inbetween is immediately selected.
This is similar to shift+click selection on desktop. We take this for granted since it has been a standard feature for three decades. But mobile apps still can't do this simple thing as of 2024.
"Drag-to-select" is better than individual selection, but comes nowhere close to real range selection. "Drag to select" is at best an ugly twin of full desktop-like range selection, but file manager developers can still get away with giving it the label of "mass selection".
ES File Explorer had this since at least 2012, yet billion-dollar Samsung and Google fail to implement this in their file managers.2 -

israel population = ~10 mil
uk population ~70 mil
popular vote uk = 0
popular vote israel = 325
huh?????? i finally believe the conspiracy theory... there is total bullshit moving through the undercurrents of international society. actually the entire media and everything on the planet is shifted by angry retards with an IQ of approximately 27 who read something on twitter and therefore they must of course conform and do it
rich hands of influence reach far across this modern world....
my twitter dies on wednesday, I think i'm quitting this platform too... i'm just so sick of wasting time 'discussing' with people who literally have informed their entire lives by sources of media that all have an agenda, and yet said reader can't recognize that. go to bot school you fucking 🤡
also inb4 eurovision is a clown event, i know it is, but the fact that 'israel' as a country was for a good 10 minutes at 1st place of the vote is simply mind boggling to me (and to be fair, switzerland, france, israel, portugal, and croatia acts in terms of art and musical talent were all shit IMO) but what do i know? apparently the 700 mio people who live in europe don't agree - but even then, who knows anything about anything as to the actual 'numbers' that are posted on these 'votes' - could all be fake, or, even worse, the entire WORLD could be fake and i'm just typing to a fucking reflection of my own conciousness on this box
ach i'm very close to just turning it all off, its just rubes on top of rubes, derivatives on top of derivatives all more retarded than the next, and each night
then i get people like kiki who rage at me for getting drunk, then 'brag' they ran 5k. i ran more and drank more than you today, get over it.
i didn't need pills to do any of it either.
or i get sid the it kid, who gives non ironic lessons in fucking PHP 😂😂😂😂 in 2024 on youtube, and yet acts like he's a badass because he pointed out a 'redundant' 'const' in my code 😂😂😂😂 actually i don't know why in the first place i listened to any of it... going my own way has ALWAYS been the best way
by 2030 i will sell my saas(es) for 500k(+) and wonder why i even gave clowns on this platform the time of day
you know what? fuck it, it's been fun devrant, as of today i become a hermit, sick of this planet, and these apes
read books, go running, learn math (or any skill at that matter) and stay calm.
i can't describe in words to all of you how much a fucking abysmal waste it all is... just build useful stuff that helps people. the enormous (and trust me, it is absolutely eclipsingly enormous) discussion about everything around everything else is truly and utterly mind numbing and time wasting to the absolute core

The data at the bottom are statistics regarding my key presses. It's literally every key pressed on this laptop since 2024-12-08. Since that date I entered a total of unique 925450 unique inputs. I did 4751951 keyboard inputs.
I know from 595 hours exactly what i've done for tasks (described by LLM based on my keylog data).
I type 107 lines per hour on average (return presses) based on 595 hours. With that logic, i did around 63925 lines.
I'm not very happy with the statistics, especially not because backspace is a hardcore first. Now, while i'm typing i'm focusing on how much I use it and it's not a lot at all.
But the thing is, if you remove abcdef, you have one a, one b, but six times back space. And these are real presses - not keyboard repeats. Also abcdef will be counted by the tag counter as a whole. Everything is a tag until it sees a new line or a white space or some punct.
Funny is that there are completely different keys on the list than I expected. You're so you used to those keys that you don't even notice using them.
I'm almost considering to add a sound under the backspace button to teach myself WHEN i use it and try to avoid it.
The key logger database is now 346Mb. Some overhead because every keypress takes around 40 chars of description (timestamp, press type, char, input device).
Creating statistics for the tags (unique words typed) takes several minutes. Already rewriting that part to C. The stats are made by python, the key logs with C.
I'm just shocked, I used 144644 times a key that I think not to use that much? :P How retoorded can you be. Imagine if i actually fixed typo's :P
But based on these keys you can see that i'm mainly working in terminal / vim. The 'i' for insert for example, typed so many times. The 'x' for save+quit. The '0' to go to beginning of line.
Did you expect that these buttons would've been the most used?
#0 BACKSPACE is pressed 144644 times (15.63% of total input)
#1 UP is pressed 92711 times (10.02% of total input)
#2 LEFT_SHIFT is pressed 73777 times (7.97% of total input)
#3 ENTER is pressed 63883 times (6.9% of total input)
#4 DOWN is pressed 56838 times (6.14% of total input)
#5 TAB is pressed 43635 times (4.72% of total input)
#6 RIGHT is pressed 37710 times (4.07% of total input)
#7 SPACE is pressed 34438 times (3.72% of total input)
#8 LEFT is pressed 26800 times (2.9% of total input)
#9 LEFT_CTRL is pressed 25402 times (2.74% of total input)
#10 LEFT_ALT is pressed 17289 times (1.87% of total input)
#11 I is pressed 12856 times (1.39% of total input)
#12 X is pressed 6106 times (0.66% of total input)
#13 A is pressed 5163 times (0.56% of total input)
#14 0 is pressed 4487 times (0.48% of total input)
#15 PAGEDOWN is pressed 4151 times (0.45% of total input)5 -
!rant Spent days reading Unicode docs, trying to make sense of what codepoints were included in every Unicode property escape in JavaScript and awk’ing the heck out of the different text files associated with them.
Then at around midnight the other night, it came to me. I was an idiot.
I could literally just create an array including every Unicode codepoint and write a program to iterate through the array and test if it matched against a Unicode property escape.
Unicode array: https://gist.github.com/AmyShackles...
Program to compare against Unicode property escape: https://gist.github.com/AmyShackles...
So. Much. Easier.

Here's something that should be a standard rule for writing APIs:
When you offer a date filter for your API, the date format passed in should be a UNIX timestamp and not a literal date. For example,
Incorrect API URL format: '?start_date=2024-03-01&end_date=2024-04-01'
Correct API URL format: '?start_date=1709251200&end_date=1711929600'6 -

The former soldier has spoken publicly about the psychological trauma endured by Israeli troops in Gaza. In a testimony to the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, in June, Zaken said that on many occasions, soldiers had to “run over terrorists, dead and alive, in the hundreds.”

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Many years ago, when most of you were toddlers, different web browsers were...different, and the most different of them all was Internet Explorer. Web applications were not automatically cross-browser compatible and it took a lot of adaptation/tweaking to make a webapp, or even a simple web page, work and look the same across different web browsers. Some web pages/apps only worked on a specific browser and poorly, if at all, on some other browsers. Now, in 2024, we're there again. Atlassian's Confluence works without a hitch on Edge, but often fails miserably on Firefox. Too bad. I don't like Edge, but am forced to use it just for Confluence. So, once again, I have separate web browsers for different tasks.6

next week im buying my first ever car. its gonna be a benz. im literally taking a cash credit loan from a bank B, just for deposit of the car, and then taking another loan from bank A, to be able to buy the car on leasing for the next 3 years.
basically I'll be giving away my whole entire salary of 2024 that i worked as devops engineer, plus cash credit, plus leasing credit, just for a fucking deposit of the car, and the car costs only 35,000 fucking euros €!
thats not a big fucking deal. ppl drive 90,000€ cars every fucking day. or 50,000€ cars as an average. i am buying a below average car, or for me The Bare Minimum Car... and i still struggle like hell to do it.
im willing to go broke buying this car bc a car would never cheat on me. it would never lie to me. a beautiful car standing outside of my house always there to remind me why this meaningless fucking existence called life, is still worth living.
a car for me is beyond just a car or art. it gives me meaning to continue living. life by default for me is valueless. a beautiful car and mine, finally generates value of life. every time i get depressed (which is every day) i take a nice night ride in my new benz
its a 2020 car. and im satisfied with it. i also got offers to buy the brand new 2024 one. but that shit is almost twice as much in costs. dont have money for that shit. I'd need to work my shit job for at least 3 more months and save every penny JUST FOR DEPOSIT.
out of my budget.
im buying a CLA class. i wanted C class but that shit mad expensive! i think A class is too cheap for me so the only class i can afford and not look cheap is CLA. C class is the next tier. I'd need 2 more salaries for C class but only 1 more salary for CLA, hence next week (first week of september)
hopefully, this new car will get me new whores. i really do hope that whores will fuck w a nice car and want to finally go out with me. i dont care if they're using me for money (which im not even gonna have). i care about using these whores as a form of revenge for my ex whore blonde cheating on me for the past 2+ years
so aside from clearing my mind of bullshit by driving a nice car at night which i fully bought myself no handouts, driving whores in it would just be cherry on top of the cake. a bonus.
lets see how it goes.21 -

Like pull-to-refresh, auto-selecting the file name in "save as" dialogues is a design trend we are perpetuating without questioning its usefulness.
The "rename" feature of file managers and the file name fields in "Save as" dialogues and screenshot tools automatically select file names without the ending, expecting the user to want to replace it.
It would more sense to place the cursor between the file name and the ending ".png".
I can't remember the last time I replaced a file name. I almost always rename files to add a comment or time stamp at the end.
Adding a comment after the time stamp, for example, "Screenshot at 2024-02-04 12-04-37 progress bar.png", makes more sense than replacing the file name. A file name with a time stamp is more easily searched.7 -
Thinking to start smoking 🚬
Never tried it once in 26 years not even a sip even refused temptations from school friends

I have no idea how to use ansible and rexify.org and thats what I'll need to use. I have no idea how to do devops with Azure, and thats what ill do. I only build devops with terraform on Aws.
The unknown of 9-5 is frightening me more than starting a business. Paradoxically, i think it would come as a relief to get fired within the first week from failing to complete literally everything
On top of that my blonde gf disappeared yesterday for 3-4 hours. No texts no phone calls. Called for 2 times no answer. Called 3rd time and got a voice message the phone was shut down. 3-4 hours later she said she was with mom at shopping and didnt have internet
I also caught her texting some random guy on instagram. They both have vanish mode enabled (texts delete themselves as soon as you leave the conversation). Confronted her today. She wont tell me the truth. Likes his pics on ig. Keeps lying. On a question "why do you have vanish mode enabled with him?" her answer is "well i guess married men always use vanish mode"
Im tired
Too much shit unraveling. The opening of 2024 already doesnt look good
Why do good people die in accidents or diseases but i dont and i live? Shits unfair. Why doesnt nature/God fucking kill me? I beg to die. I hope to die. I pray for something to kill me. It would come as such a relief.
This life is meaningless and empty to me. typeof(life) yields a void. I dont value it. Its shit. Whether succeed or fail its meaningless. Nihilism was right
I am literally a walking dead. Physically moving but spiritually dead. Mentally lost. I am the captain of a ship in the middle of the ocean who no longer knows where the ship is going
Why cant i just get cancer or something. Can cigarettes help me get it? Cause I'll start consuming that shit right away to speedrun that process

Need advice:
So this recruiter from AWS reached out to me for a SDE job. I said yes I’m interested and scheduled an interview. She didn’t show up. I politely said would you like to schedule another time 30 min after the empty session was over. She said yes. Then the day after she sends me a message saying they can’t hire students. (I’m 20 yo second year electrical engineering student but I have decent dev experience ~3-4 years) I tell her I’m not planning on continuing with my 3rd year next fall. She says no I’m hiring from the “industry only”. And I try to tell her I’ve never had an internship before and all of this work experience is all by myself and not university related….she stopped responding…..what am I supposed to do? It’s not the first time that this has happened. They see “graduating 2024” they immediately bounce. I tried hiding what year my university education starts/ends….didn’t work…5 -

Wow, angular is still a pile of shit in 2024, nothing changed.
I renew my https://devrant.com/rants/7582990 previous rant
I've recently switched to angular 17, not because I'm a masochist, but because, unfortunately, we have a huge portal for a super huge multinational enterprise and it's made in angular.
It's 2 years worth of work, and they've suddenly decided it's cool to switch to angular 17, because standards, because it's new etc.
Now that this crap angular 17 came out I prepared my hair pulling room, where there are whips and self torture instruments, and I've typed into browser url they "super new super modern super efficient" angular.dev, which apparently is their new official super 1337 documentation site (spoiler, it's shit as the other if not worse).
Since they realized angular was pigshit, they decided to eviscerate it like a sacrifical lamb in ancient maya age and add lot of stuff that makes it modern and more friendly.
They think they made the big bang of news, but they implemented stuff that exist since 10 years after people were cutting their wrists in their github "request a feature" section for years.
Well, to make it brief, they made a whole clunky obscure way to bootstrap it and didn't even had the decency and modesty to properly document it (they never learn, sigh....)
In any case I put up a .NET minimal API that works well, and a small angular app with a Hello world page that fetches a "hello word" string from a test api route.
The api works everywhere, browser, postman etc etc.
But ta-dahhhh, in angular throws error.
They put various way of using http client. Main 2 are withFetch() and without.
withFetch() says "as error "Invalid self signed certificate" and withoutFetch "Unknown error".
Apparently we have to do shenanigans also to do some dev development4 -

Why would people want an installer, what a crazy thought to have it in the ide primarily used for building applications.8 -

EXPERT STOLEN CRYPTO RECOVERY SERVICES ONLINE ⁚ HIRE DIGITAL HACK RECOVERY COMPANY
If I could offer one crucial piece of advice, it would be this: if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. I learned this the hard way in early 2024 when I was drawn into a crypto arbitrage scheme while living in Australia. The platform claimed it could help me effortlessly exploit price differences in cryptocurrencies across various exchanges. They offered a user-friendly app and appeared to have guaranteed strategies, even boasting the use of AI for trading.Initially, everything seemed promising. I started with $4,000, motivated by daily updates showing my balance steadily increasing. In just a few weeks, I watched my account soar to $12,000, which tempted me to invest even more. The consistent, modest gains felt reassuring, and I began to imagine the possibilities that came with this newfound wealth. However, when I attempted to withdraw my funds, the problems began. The first hurdle was a withdrawal fee. At the time, I didn't think much of it. But then, I was hit with requests for additional fees: an exchange commission, followed by a supposed tax settlement fee. Each time I thought I was one step closer to accessing my money, another obstacle emerged. I ended up paying nearly $20,000 in various fees, all without ever seeing a cent of my profits.Eventually, the company went silent, leaving me devastated. I felt ashamed for having fallen for such a sophisticated scam, but also furious at how cleverly it had been orchestrated. I spent months researching and searching for a solution to recover my lost funds. That’s when I discovered Digital Hack Recovery, a team that specializes in recovering lost digital assets. Their expertise turned out to be invaluable. They worked diligently to access my accounts and recover not only my initial investment but also the earnings I had accumulated. To my surprise, they managed to transfer everything back to my bank account seamlessly.Digital Hack Recovery restored my faith in the possibility of reclaiming lost assets and gave me hope in an otherwise dire situation. If you find yourself in a similar predicament, I strongly encourage you to reach out to them. Their assistance can make a world of difference in navigating the aftermath of such scams.

This transformative experience ignited my passion for cryptocurrencies, leading me down a path of exploration and investment. However, in January 2024, my journey took a dark turn. A glimmer of recovery emerged in the form of a casual conversation with a friend. Mentioning a team that could potentially assist me, I remained skeptical. It wasn't until our lunch meeting two weeks later that her persistence nudged me to reconsider. Walking me to my car, she urged me to give TECHNOCRATE RECOVERY a chance. i am a fan of everything mcu but recent ms marvel feels so cringy and awkward as an Indian. the main actress is okay, but almost all of the casting is from non Indian/pakistani descent. thankfully those guys don't try to speak hindi/urdu otherwise i would have snorted while watching 😂. the blend of languages feels so weird i neither like their hindi nor English.
imo squid game like adaptation would have been better , having everyone from same descent and speaking the same language while having everything dubbed by professionals for other languages.
and what's with the colors? mann that's too much color for even the most colourful countries of the world.
and songs? wow. when i was growing up, the movies at that time had dialogues like "when you are in love , you hear background music" , but even those movies didn't had any background music so cringy as this.
also from what i know pakistani culture is way more punjabi than indian culture in general. but here , pwople are speaking perfect hindi even in a mosque!
makes me wonder how the world sees these 2 countries. every 5 minutes i felt that this is more Indian adaptation of a story than pakistan. they just blended the countries' culture brutally. i bet the conversation between director and scriptwriter must be like:
d :hi there
s : hello
d: so you have a movie for me
s : yes sir i do . it's called miss marvel
d : oh so it's about carol denvers? i thought that wasn't until 2024
s : no sir it's about a Pakistani girl with superpowers
d : oh okay. wait did you say Pakistani?
s : yes sir. a pakistani girl born in n-
d : yeh yeh yeh. listen we need to add lots of colors
s : why-?? ok sure sir.
d : and elephants. and borses. also , everyone must occasionally.
s : bur sie those are all the cuisines of an indian wedding . and why we want horses?
d: doesn't matter, i want horses.
s: buf s-? ok fine1
