Anytime I see someone put "future" and "AI" in the same sentence, all I can think of is spambots advertising crypto scams, or scams promising to recover the money you as an idiot lost to a crypto scam, or a betrayed lover who utilized our premium haxor services to confirm that their spouse did in fact suck off the entire Wu Tang clan.
To which I conclude: what future? It's even worse than regular advertising and much more expensive, a regression in nearly every way.4 -
The internet says "containers are the holy grail, it's cross-platform and you can run your images and get the same result everywhere"
The practice says: nope... it doesn't do thatrant containers architecture os myth cross-platform theory ordering practise filesystem devops platforms9 -
Ok I just asked my manager if there's no way we can send this daily update to management once a week and she said not possible.
If a better job offer comes in, I'm taking it.
Adios, micromanagers... -
How come so many dev teams are working with blindfolds on?
We have two projects that communicate using endpoints. One of them throws a parsing error with some data. Cool, just give the calling project some debug references and attach a debugger right?
Apparently not. I haven't figured out why we can't do that, it seems like the project only works using nuget references so we never get any debug info for the other project.
Asked around how we usually solve issues like this. The answer: "idk the codegen always works, so we never solve issues like this".
What.
It "always works". Except now it doesn't. And you've never tried debugging it? Instead just working with blindfolds on trying random shit until it does?
This is far from the first time I've heard this on a team. That and "we don't need error codes, if something goes wrong we have to fix it either way". I'm losing faith in the dev world... -
'You are a programmer? Could you help us out with our novel AI in our company?'
is the new
'Can you fix my printer?' -
python devs are not devs
why do you need numpy and 30 other packages to change some lights on a keyboard
and then the kicker is that it doesn't even work, because it can't find a daemon I guess
this is so fragile
so ridiculous
every time, these math people14 -
does anyone else find it wild that there are hundreds or even thousands of products you've never heard of with over $1M+ ARR? this is just mind boggling to me5

Social Media. I have had the same message for 16 years from Linkedin ‘4 people visited your profile’. I still don’t give a fuck. Got a twitter account shortly after it launched, I still think it’s totally pointless. Recently looked at Instagram as everyone keeps asking me for it. There is no point to that either. It’s all fucking pointless and just a way to pretend you have a superior life to other sad mother fuckers. God I hate social fucking media!7

OpenAI is probably one of the most hypocritical companies in history. From the name, to how they copy other startups that build on top their platform, to how they use copyrighted material but prohibit others from using their model for training. I don;t understand how they are so celebrated when they engage in shady practices1

Lol. Another day, another (or just the usual) big tech company just takes us from behind.
This time? Oh Google is just spamming me because they "found malware" on a tracking code. There's nothing. Except competition.
They had to email me about every "malware" in EVERY fucking workspace version. In random order, eventually effecting the live version. Thanks. I really needed those 30 emails to know. -
Thinking about going full bum and just hike national parks until I die. No job, no possessions, no electronics, no hell, no heaven, no nothing - just living totally in nature - and if I die? So what 🤷♂️5

my life: dealing with shitty bullshit technologies to scrape together some money so i'll be able to retire for a few years before i die
🤡
I swear a year long+ (or permanant) sabbatical is on the horizon, I'm utterly sick of this shit6 -
Kinda funny, the company I work for, has around 1k followers on linkedIn. The only interactions it has on any posts is either from 1 or 2 sales people & 2 founders. Any poll they do on Linkedin has maximum 3 votes3

The current state of wordpress "web development" makes me want to punch myself in the balls.
I remember when we coded a lot of stuff, now everything is janky drag and dropping, all plugins have premium versions with the actual features you need, templates are more and more full of dependencies that are trash. Wordpress is ruined. I want it to die already.4 -
I specifically asked my employer when fix time is, whether I get a work laptop, and whether WFH is optional, because
- I'm a night owl and don't function until 10am
- my personal laptop is slow as shit and I don't want to put Windows on it
- I don't have a decent chair at home yet
- client team agreed on fix time starting an hour before what's in my contract, and PM made it clear that they expect to be able to call us an hour before and two hours after (that's what fix time means unless I misunderstand)
- I got a crap backup laptop after a week of moaning, with promise of a better one two weeks from now
- I won't get an RFID card for weeks, so I effectively can't enter or leave the client offices12 -
Clouwn world !
Microsoft 4-5 years ago : "hey we put in place a small Ai calculator "advisor" for you to check. Maybe you can pay a bit less"
People using advisor and puting it in yearly mode to how much diff it would take over a year.
Microsoft : Fuck people are paying less. Then see image...
I only see one reason for that. -
Simply having a university degree is not a reasob for a bigger salary comapred to a non degree. Its just a school where you learn some of the stuff you need on the job. Therefore if you prove that you know the same it is the same. Same work same salary.17

Recruiter: Hi, i'm recruiting for xyz, your profile looks like a great fit. Would you be interested in discussing further?
Me: Hi, your company website says you only have an office location in Berlin. I've marked my profile as not interested in relocation, only interested in jobs in my country and said the same in my description. Are you expanding to my country?
Recruiter: You are correct, this role is based in AMAZING Berlin. Are you interested in relocating?
Me:19 -
My linkedin: "please dont contact me about javascript work"
Every recruiter on linkedin: "hold my beer"8 -
R: Random ass recruiter on LinkedIn
Me: me
R: Hey I was searching for X skill and your name popped up first. Would you like to work for our company? It's an urgent position with good pay and awesome latest tech
Me: I quit that very company 5 months ago, because the pay was low and the tech was from the 1990's.
R: :/
Me: :|
PS: I'm not 100% sure of this, but based off the tech stack, I'm pretty sure it was for the same fucking position I quit from.4 -
What's the point of retro if nothing that we're saying should improve is actively being improved and problems being highlighted is constantly being shoved under the rug?9

The stand-in for the person who normally runs the daily standup meeting (who is currently on leave) asked me today in front of everyone in standup if I've updated my notes. Fuck. Off.
So, I decided to be cheeky and add a comment to the daily standup notes automation task in our project management software that we should just include all of the recipients of the daily status update email in our standup meeting every morning, this way we don't require a OneNote space to update as well as an email.
If they tell me that's not the purpose of standup, then hopefully someone will realise what they've been doing all along.
Let's see how that goes lmao.2 -
man I wish people would stop trying to fix people problems with stupid processes and even dumber software.3

Oh China, you still continue to amuse me... in that special way where i somehow both expect it and am hilariously, breifly shocked... then it's somber, confirming what we know is real/continues to be a societal and cognitive decline trend with no apparent rock bottom, without all-out demise as a near certainty... nor a hail mary play.
... but hey, what better way to digest the real-time info, indicative of something that should be terrifying, but is all too expected, than this unique type of format?
Seriously though, even if it worked amazingly, why would anyone be using it outside in public? Does it require several hours a day? If not, and it was a worthwhile result for you... wouldn't you just make it part of your morning and/or evening routine...even if it had nothing to do with aesthetics, that cant be sanitary... unless you also carry it in a water-tight container or disinfectant and typically bring/use your toothbrush and toothpaste mid-day or at unusual intervals.
I have sooo many more questions about this... and none are relative to who designed/mass produced this, nor the quality of the silicone. As it was developed/produced by the silicone factory ive done great, professional, no bs, business with for about a decade... which is why i waited years to publicly ridicule this contraption.
Fyi- their primary product lines are things like bongs and dab containers; im on the fence of it that makes this better or worse.
Creepy personal truth... i reeeeally wanna know how much that woman got paid... and do to my skill set (ie. Im near utter certainty that i could find her and ask her... likely easily abd definitely without being caught doing anything suspicious. Pro tip: publicly declaring things like this makes it a bit easier to not end up doing it... obvious premeditation adding significantly more to any sentencing.22
