FUCK LINUX
now that I have your attention, and you’re probably angry, too, please, even if you don’t read this rant, never use code.org again. now, onto the rant…
god dammit, code.org sucks. I mean, anyone who created it or associates with it should, well, be considered a terrorist. they’re bombing students futures in computer science with false, useless, bullshit information. not to mention, their sponsors like bill gates, mark zuckerburg, and other rich asses, talk in a video about some boring ass shit that is hard to understand for anyone who doesn’t program, and not to mention, they use a fucking five dollar microphone. ear rape. even if you look at a textual version of it, then read the information on it, it’s practically useless because it's so terribly explained, and also useless. ironically enough, they focus on their animations more than their actual explinations, or their students for that matter. the fact that we had to encode a picture in binary, made me about 50% dumber, give or take a 0 or 1. then, we had to do it in hex, which wasn’t really much better, although more realistic I supposed. what's really the most depressing thing about this class is its application in the real world. I've learnt nothing whatsoever that will help me in the real world, or in computer science. I suppose there's two things that may be useful (that I already knew): hex, and that TCP doesn't lose packets. that's it. those two things. five seconds worth of knowledge from the first quarter of the year. the ideas just make me want to throw up. teaching the main ideas of computer science without actually teaching it? one of the teachers (probably a good one) enrolled her students in an online programming course just so they could understand, because the explanations are just so terrible. this is the only [high school] computer science course offered by code.org, and I signed up because it's an AP computer science class (tried to get into AP Java, the day I was supposed to take the test to get into an upper level class, I was told it didn't count as a tech credit). seriously, fuck code.org. it makes you dumber. their 'app lab' environment is pointless, just like everything else. the app lab is basically where you have a set of commands and have to make a dog bark() or a storm trooper miss() [and that's hell when they haven't introduced while loops yet]. the app lab is literally code.org going out of their way to make everything that their students are learning pointless in the real world. seriously, why can't we just use a <canvas> like an ACTUAL PROGRAMMER would do if they were to make a browser game, not use an app engine so slow it would be faster to update windows and android studio each time I run an 'app' in their 'environment'. their excuse is that the skills "transfer over" to the real world. BITCH! IF I DIDN'T KNOW JAVA, AND I WANTED TO MAKE A GAME IN JAVA, I'M NOT GOING TO LEARN PYTHON, THEN "TRANSFER" THE SKILLS I LEARNT, I'M GOING TO LEARN FUCKING JAVA. AND THAT GOES FOR EVER OTHER LANGUAGE, PROJECT, ETC.
I'm begging you code.org, stop, get help.9 -
!rant
Im going to boast for a second. I wrote a lockless multi producer c++ thread pool that scales linearly, doesn't eat cpu on no work, and has a proper packaged_task + futures interface. It's fucking awesome, and that is all. Thanks for reading 😎3 -
nice, 10k reached before sidtheitclown! (that’s all that actually matters, heh)
so, yes, as promised it’s me… chris from chris’ full stack blog.
I think kiki knew this, as I used to be called fullstackchris… though very briefly... don't know why i was ever worried about the old clowns i used to work for knowing my identity here
i’m a host of react round up, and also an ex-futures trader (that life is / was hidden on Twitter), I’ve recently quit because I’m ALSO still building 4ish SaaS products including The Wheel Screener (wheelscreener.com) and CodeVideo (codevideo.io), over my LLC, Full Stack Craft (fullstackcraft.com)
oh yeah, and on top of that i have a full time job in Switzerland (read: not poor boi 38 or 40 hour work week, 42 minimum)
so yeah, its a fucking lot of shit to do and sometimes it’s too much! glad i have this place to vent
so, don’t be too harsh on me… really, 99% of my bitterness comes from the approximate 5 years of my working life (2018-2023) were taken from me by lying business folk type who actually didn’t know what the FUCK they were doing or talking about, even after promising me they did (at two different companies). Listen, I’m all for people telling me iTs a RiSkY VeNTuRe; i get it. But if you say everything is rock solid (like funding, my future employment, etc.) and it is not, then fuck you; you’re just lying to my face, it has nothing to with management vs employee, engineer vs. non-technical - you’re literally just a *bad person* (sorry, mechanical engineering genes and honesty to the core - sue me) To be sure, I was partially at fault - too optimistic, and too gullible, and I’ve have since learned my lesson. but still working on it. (obviously)
but things are look up - my company is running better than ever, the current job is great with insanely smart people
In the end, it’s always the hardcore engineers who are the most honest, hardworking, respectful, and the best to work with - you people know who you are…
Until then… see you in the next rant!!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Dutifully signed,

We bring you messages from the future...
Is Apple rounding up timestamps, or have they started using Scala Futures? 😂😂3 -
Yo rate my investment portfolio! I tried to build it to ensure the best possible stability:
33% futures
33% binary options
33% random cryptocurrencies
1% AT&T stock (one piece)5 -
As someone who uses UNIX and UNIX-like systems on a daily basis, and someone dealing with computer support in a school, I experience so, so many issues, many of which others have already ranted about.
For no reason at all, I find it incredibly frustrating how many high school students' understanding of sudo is limited to this:
Student: Hey, isn't sudo the minecraft command
Me: Erm
Student: You know, the one skeppy uses... to troll players? Anyway, you're doing it wrong. There should be a slash before you run the command
Me: aaargh.
and so on. Happens probably every 10th time I invoke sudo.
I mean, really? Surely these kids, with all their complaints and lines: hacking into the mainframe/whats the admin password/why did you block my VPN/ and so on, would know what sudo is. But NO, they just don't seem to get it. Sometimes I lose my hope in the futures of these kids.5 -
My school system is complete shit, if I haven't said so already. With Gerrymandered, Arizona, and I, our futures are actively being made harder by the fact they the system discourages experimental thought. Experimental as in anything different whatsoever. In tech, you usually have to think outside the box a little, and this is only making it harder.5

So many of the idiots at my school, when they grow up, want to do "something with computers". Wha? The concept of what you even do with a computer is so widely screwed up that kids think that is specific enough to plan their futures on. I suggest they actually learn minute enough of their future career to know what really they want to do, but I guess this would be too logical?4

well folks
trading futures
soon there will be no need to listen to any clown, post on dev rant, or to work for anyone
so probably, the depression will increase...
🤡
for anyone interested, if you have a strong interest in statistics and probabilities, you can probably do well here5 -
I swear to god as I see the copies and it same people running around if I have to hear one more person describe a trauma buried time period when everyone else was destitute and being a whore as COVID that they updated far and away towards their own freakish mutated purposes imma shoot someone
Seriously why can’t you people just life normal lives ? Why make existence into a drama filled prison sentence targeting everyone who just tries to retain sentiment and turn the world into a scrapyard of glitching human robots ? I want to know
Case in point record and gradually amassing property defends against this you people traded your futures to the very kind of people most of you are51 -
So I have replaced npm with yarn due to performance boost and the lockfile.
Never will there be problems with unexpected versions of dependencies!
Wait.
Why is my build writing a yarn.lock?
It turns out, if you want yarn to exit with an error code if it's out of sync with the package.json, you have to run it with:
$ yarn install --frozen-lockfile
Only then it will produce an error.
The default for it is to notice, oh, there is some new dependencies, let resolve this to the most current version I can fetch, and use that one, and write a new lockfile. Meaning you will get unknown futures of a depdency. O_o
That's totally going besides the purpose of having a lockfile in the first place. Why would anyone want this?
Action I do expect to touch the lockfile:
add / remove / upgrade
Action I do NOT expect to touch the lockfile:
install
Install should just install whatever is in there, and if it realizes it is out of sync, die with an error.
But that would make sense!
Who needs sensible defaults anyway!?5 -
I regret being mean.
Growing up, I went to International school. Everything was taught in English. I transferred from a Russian school after studying for 6 years. It felt like a heaven although my dad was busting his ass off to pay my tuition.
We had many students from many countries. 2 students from North Korea. I use to make fun of them but now I think I should have nicer. I miss my school and that time. We to sneak to auditorium, hide there from teachers. We use to play "zombie", in pitch black, 1 becomes a zombie and others hide and run from the zombie. We use to play the piano and beautiful music there. The playful and joyful time where everything seemed possible and we had bright futures ahead of us, I miss that.
I want to become more loving and kind person.
