senior "don't do it like this, there are alternatives"
doesn't mention the alternatives
thanks? i can look into implementing it how you want if you'd elaborate the alternatives....6
Need some opinions.
Imagine you’ve got loads of .net + angular under your belt. Like 10+ years.
A new place wants good software engineers from any background but their main thing is Java. So for their new work you will probably be writing it in Java.
Would you turn it down because by this point your specialised in .net.
Or would you be more ‘easy-come-easy-go’ about it and happily learn Java (not too hard) and all the surrounding libraries, toolset (I suspect this is where the effort would be)
I’m kind of of the opinion that switching to a whole other ecosystem might set you back. If you had to put a label on it I would describe it as going from being a senior to a mid-senior.
As you would fall behind with .net but still be trying to up skill in the Java toolset.
And it does feel a bit like learning Java at this point is like learning cobol.
Is my thinking wrong?4
Just upgraded to Android 12 and what the fuck is this new UI
make it stop
Hm yes let's make the buttons 14 times larger than they need to be, also put text on them no one ever needed34
Recently i had to interview a guy with 10 years of frontend experience for a react developer role
Me : Do you know what ecmascript is ?
Him : Yes
Me : Which version would you prefer to use and why ?
Me : (totally confused) 😶
Me : (Trying hard to not "react") Ok.
How would you "react" to this ?31
I’ve been writing websites since I was 12 and I’m still yet to write a loading animation. I always just copy them off codepen9
I stopped caring about managers loving endless meetings and priority shifts.
They pay me to attend to meetings.
I'll give them what they want.
But if they ask me if the feature is done, I make them attend a meeting for that.3
YOU STUPID APPLICATION MANAGER STOP PROLONGING THIS MEETING FOR THE LOVE OF GOD this is a daily scrum not a status report you solid twat stop asking when something will be done when it hasn't even been worked on yet
Dev: "I'll start working on the thing today, might take a day or two to finish development"
Twat: "Will it be ready for testing tmorrow"
D: "Maybe by late tomorrow? If all goes well"
T: "So it'll be tested by tomorrow"
D: "Uhhhh wait"
T: "It'll be done by tomorrow"
GODDAMNIT MAN HE'LL TELL YOU TOMORROW IF IT'S DONE OR NOT AND IF IT CAN BE TESTED I want to punch you so hard in the face with a spiked mallet covered in wasp stingers and hello kitty juice to excacerbate your diabetes you filthy piece of excrement waiting to be smeared across the pavement with my boot9
This is a post about some gratitude. Many of my friends were not so lucky during COVID and their companies suffered. I am very grateful to be working for a company where my git branch name of a recent commit was 'feature/support-our-two-new-factories'. My company is thriving and growing :)1
PM: oh hey you guys are back early, did you figure out that bug yet?
Dev: server’s haunted
Dev: *loading pistol and stepping back into server room* server’s haunted2
For what fucking reason the ability to set the date and time programatically has been blocked on Android?!
Why you can create fucking invisible apps that work in the background, mine cryptos, steal your data but they decided that something like that is considered dangerous?
Can anyone give me a logical explanation?
There are cases (big pharma companies) where the users don't have access to internet nor a ntp server is available on the local network, so the ability for an app to get the time of a sql server and set it in runtime is crucial, expecially when the user, for security reasons, can't have access to the device settings and change it by himself.
"System apps" can do it, but you would have to change the firmware of a device to sideload an external "System app" and in that case it would lose the warranty.
So, yeah, fucking Google assholes, there are cases where your dumb decisions make the others struggle every other day.
Give more power to third party developers, dumb motherfuckers.
It's not that difficult to ask the user, once, to give the SET_TIME permission.
It was possible in the past...
Windows Mobile 6.5 was a masterpiece for business.
It still could be, just mount better CPUs on PDAs and extend the support. But no, "Android is the future". What a fucking bad future.11
they say everything "old" is better, but in programming, dependencies in C was a mess. Shut up. Sometimes C is a cult enforced by those who don't even write in C. Now I build my projects with Parcel in less than a second with no configuration. It uses a full-blown AST for everything. If I want more performance with similar DX, I use fastpack, bringing build time down to tens of milliseconds.
art? charli xcx, sophie xeon, death grips, just to name a few. they made things that weren't imaginable before, ultimately pushing music forward. Hendrix is good but they're just incomparable in terms of beauty, complexity and sophistication.
literature? every old book I read feature same conflicts. they are so similar it's almost boring to read them. meanwhile, Erlend Loe delivers a complex idea without using a conflict (!) and without any character changes. that's insane.
"older is better" is getting old. it's time for you to seek for some other reusable gibberish to insult what other people create.
finally, let me remind you that you, my friend, create nothing.46

P.S. In case you are wondering, the answer is NO. I am not creating a bot to purchase PS5. I am creating a bot to check if it's in stock and notify me in Telegram.5
University: "It is important to distinguish between read-only variables and editable variables. They make it easier to find bugs if you're changing a value that should not be changed"
Me: changes all `const`s and `val`s for `var`s every time I get a re-assign error.2
Me: *Killing tickets like there's no tomorrow*
Others: Doing nothing.
Manager: Well, since you are closing tickets here are some from your coworkers.7
I played skyrim, and i thought yes.. i want to make that...
