i dream of having a working dev and test environment
or being good enough to have my own stuff working
i don't go out of my way to fuck around with any of it, i just want to do my work, clock in, clock out8 -
Trust your guts!
Just remember that your gut is designed to take the most tastey things and turn it into shit.2 -
I hate free cloud services needing a login. Just let me fucking access the damn app. What difference does it make, it's literally free anyways?? I just want to make a god damn spreadsheet and now I need to login to like 3 different microsoft accounts
WHYYYYYYY7 -
Could the all of the Tencent cloud kindly please fuck off back to China?
Those assholes don't even publish their IP ranges so one could easily block their ass.
Had to rely on external tools and hunt down all of their different ASNs to finally block them from overloading a client's webapp...
Ugh, I need a beer.6 -
Procastinator's tricks to be productive: Schedule messages
I hate to write people. They could answer. My whole plan might be thrown off. But when is the best time to answer them? The day after tomorrow? Too late. Tomorrow. Around 10? Thank you to all messengers that allow me to schedule a message. Instead of procrastinating, I answer, I schedule, and if I am in a bad mood, I later come back and abort and rewrite the message nicer.
Went perfectly swimmingly with my happy new year messages. Everyone got them at 00:00. Yes my friend, you're obviously the most important thing in my life, first thing I did was writing you!3 -
mama kiki just went to two sentence horror subreddit and casually smashed those amateurs three times in a row with her writing chops4

Just saw new designs for this new screen. Everything is totally different then everything we’ve build so far. Seriously dude. WHY?! Why can’t you keep at least the buttons the same as before?5

if the Internet feels like it's evolving fast are you old
it's like the fracturing off random places are now becoming big with their own sub-fractures2 -
The 2025 IT codeword is "flanagan".
This word can be provided to other IT support teams to let them know you are also a competent IT person.
Did I restart my router? Check DNS? NTP config? Traceroute? Yep all that. Just give the proper codeword and you can get sent straight to L3 support.1 -
The Copilot logo is ugly as sin and the Copilot key glyph on new computer keyboards gives me cancer.3

I'm the type of girl that can write a 100-line SQL migration without autocomplete, AI and copying-and-pasting and make it run correctly on the first try.10

Facepunch is a fucking joke. They're not enabling the game run on Linux because of what? You can already cheat the fucking shit out of Rust on Windows since EAC doesn't give a shit if only 3-5 people use your cheat so you're free to cheat as long as you're not sharing it to lots of people. So why do they care so much about linux?????6

You are watching 20 hours a week Netflix featuring broken families.
I'm reading Donald Duck since I was a kid once week for 30 minutes featuring good family values.
We're not the same.
Christmas was great. I love my once dysfunctional family. Dysfunctional as F but solid as a rock when needed.80 -
It's shockingly bad, Jesus 😣
https://stackoverflow.com/questions...
I know I'm just whining atp instead of moving on something else. For lack of anything else, I blame capitalism for limiting my options. I would never subject myself to this torture of my own volition. Yet, you have to wonder how a joke like this. Even a routing library developed over a code kata or aboard a flight would at least, include a regex capturing possibility of trailing slashes. How would one ever imagine that all clients of this api have to strictly either end their url with slashes, otherwise they get slammed with a 404
Unbelievable12 -

My partners family loves game shows and so whenever we go there we only watch game shows (like 5 back to back 45min episodes of the same show for the entire night) and they make me feel like my mind is getting smoother -
So I am navigating the hellscape called vcpkg. It is a hellscape to me because I don't understand fuck all about how its supposed to work. It has things like manifests and keys which point to repo commits and other weird shit.
I am trying to learn how to get it to install boost.asio today. It keeps installing this old as fuck version 1.80 instead of latest 1.86. I try specifying the version in the vckpg.json file of my project. Then it starts throwing hands and saying it doesn't have port shit for other boost libraries. I try to provide versions for those and it throws more hands. I search and search to no avail. So I give up and let it install 1.80 and all its dependencies. Then its starting fucking erroring out compiling boost.coroutines. So I search on that. Nothing of substance. Just flabbergasted at this point. Does boost work at all with msvc?
I am looking through the errors and is says run "vcpkg update". This fails because I am in manifest mode. Why didn't it give me the command for manifest mode, is it stupid? Then I find the command for manifest mode: "vcpkg x-update-baseline". This updates it commit number is some random file I don't know about. Still don't know what the fuck that does. Then I run the config again on my vcpkg.json. This starts installing boost-asio 1.86. Okay, that is what I wanted in the first place.
So I let it run and do its thing. It installs everything and compiles everything. Its all ready to go. At this point I am like what the fuck is this shit. I don't really want to learn any of this shit. Yet there is someone somewhere that probably can't get enough of this. At work I will probably eventually need to learn this, along with cmake, and all its quirks. It just makes me tired to learn this just to get to a point to write one line of code. I am sure vcpkg will save me time and energy at some point. But 2-3 hours of guessing is annoying at best.
The last time I used boost on windows I just downloaded the source and built it. It was simple and then I just had to provide paths. vcpkg is nice in this respect. Especially when I upgrade the library.
I don't know what the point of this rant is. Getting tired of fighting tooling I guess. Already learning black magic trying to setup my build environment for making skse plugins. Docs are almost non-existent. I did find a discord with some cool people though. Respect to the trailblazers of this art.9 -
I've gotten rent-free places in so many member's heads of this platform.
They want me to leave or feel bad about myself. But I just can't. How can I give in after so many months of work.
I just love it.
I'm staying here forever my dudes.2 -
Disclaimer: This joke will be lost in translation but I can't help but make it
In my country, you can use the phrase "it's not beans" to describe something difficult eg "that ielts exam no be beans". Given my recent woes with spring boot, I can also say "spring webflux no be beans". But it's funny to me because the framework calls objects bound to the container "beans" so it's a nerdy, don't leave me joke5 -
3 weeks my projects don’t move, one because I am lazy because I hate integrating Stripe, the other because I feel guilty not working on the first one every time I open it.8

Mandatory winter break means mandatory.
Getting PR requests from a team mate during company wide holiday PTO. Asked him wtf he was doing, manager told him he had to work.
NOT the managers call! This is going to HR on the 2nd11 -
Want to give Google a giant "fuck you" to their AI results?
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/...
I now have a custom google search that Firefox defaults to. It looks like I don't get AI results on first try. YMMV11 -
There’s a guy at work I hate so much. He doesn’t know when a problem shouldn’t exist, he never checks to see if there is a better more maintainable and efficient way to solve a problem, lacks attention to detail, has the attention span of a goldfish, writes shitty overly complicated code, fuuuck
If you talked to this guy in person, you’d think he’s a genius who has it all figured out, but he’s just a professional bullshitter13 -
I think I'm beginning to hate my language and I'm struggling to find the motivation to work on it.
So, I started playing with SonicPi because it uses Ruby which I both hate more and can't fix, and it does something I want to eventually use Orchid for.
A therapist would probably have a field day with my self-motivation techniques.9 -
Do you guys remember a few days ago that I was looking for someone with certain email address because he didn't receive his email because HE had an insecure mail server? I was sad, because I love new members. While my site has everything public, even api urls to api services without any auth, email confirmation off, hardcoded links to internal servers like retoor42 in repositories, still someone managed to think he hacked me: https://retoor.molodetz.nl/hi/.... That guy! Ironically I went even looking for him to give him credentials! Listing all members of my site is even possible because I have literally right under in my site a link to the most advanced api ever where you can list everything the site contains THAT I ALLOW YOU TOO. That hacker says "magic". I have the url to that "magic" literally on every page Einstein.
Don't let that guy found out what you can do with api.molodetz.nl without any protection..
Dear lord. It's probably the most public site with no secrets ever.
Also, the server runs with a small password and it's a pwned password. Ssh is on port 22. No security measurements are taken.
I can assure you, I know security and worked on cloud shit for three years at one of Dutch biggest cloud provides, kinda aws.
You won't be able to do anything I don't want you to with causing big damage.
Dear lord.3 -
Is devRant Losing Its Spark?
Hey ranters,
Anyone else notice how quiet devRant has become? Back in 2016-2017, this place was buzzing with energy, but now it’s down to just 10-12 rants a week. What happened? Did competition from platforms like Reddit or Discord take over, or did devRant stop evolving?
I still believe this platform has huge potential—developers will always need a space to vent and connect. But without fresh ideas or a clear roadmap, it feels like devRant is fading.
To the creators: what’s the plan? To the community: do you feel the same? Let’s discuss!
