Shopping for fridge with sister in law.
"Yeah that one is nice but it doesn't have an app"
"Why do you need an app for your fridge"
"I don't know, but this other fridge has an app, so I think if it doesn't have an app it's not that good"
"But it's very energy-efficient, silent and spacious. The one with the app is the same size, has a worse energy rating, is noisier and is more expensive as well"
"Yeah I know but if there's no extra features that's kind of boring"
"You are everything that's wrong with modern consumers"28 -

Me: I honestly don't care how thick a phone is and who cares if it doesn't have wireless charging...
Other consumers: I want a thin, beautifully designed phone and it has to have wireless charging, it's 2018 l, every phone needs this....
*Me watching that same consumer put a thoch bulky case that hides the phone and breaks wireless charging*
Well that makes fucking sense doesn't it...8 -

Here are the reasons why I don't like IPv6.
Now I'll be honest, I hate IPv6 with all my heart. So I'm not supporting it until inevitably it becomes the de facto standard of the internet. In home networks on the other hand.. huehue...
The main reason why I hate it is because it looks in every way overengineered. Or rather, poorly engineered. IPv4 has 32 bits worth, which translates to about 4 billion addresses. IPv6 on the other hand has 128 bits worth of addresses.. which translates to.. some obscenely huge number that I don't even want to start translating.
That's the problem. It's too big. Anyone who's worked on the internet for any amount of time knows that the internet on this planet will likely not exceed an amount of machines equal to about 1 or 2 extra bits (8.5B and 17.1B respectively). Now of course 33 or 34 bits in total is unwieldy, it doesn't go well with electronics. From 32 you essentially have to go up to 64 straight away. That's why 64-bit processors are.. well, 64 bits. The memory grew larger than the 4GB that a 32-bit processor could support, so that's what happened.
The internet could've grown that way too. Heck it probably could've become 64 bits in total of which 34 are assigned to the internet and the remaining bits are for whatever purposes large IP consumers would like to use the remainder for.
Whoever designed IPv6 however.. nope! Let's give everyone a /64 range, and give them quite literally an IP pool far, FAR larger than the entire current internet. What's the fucking point!?
The IPv6 standard is far larger than it should've been. It should've been 64 bits instead of 128, and it should've been separated differently. What were they thinking? A bazillion colonized planets' internetworks that would join the main internet as well? Yeah that's clearly something that the internet will develop into. The internet which is effectively just a big network that everyone leases and controls a little bit of. Just like a home network but scaled up. Imagine or even just look at the engineering challenges that interplanetary communications present. That is not going to be feasible for connecting multiple planets' internets. You can engineer however you want but you can't engineer around the hard limit of light speed. Besides, are our satellites internet-connected? Well yes but try using one. And those whizz only a couple of km above sea level. The latency involved makes it barely usable. Imagine communicating to the ISS, the moon or Mars. That is not going to happen at an internet scale. Not even close. And those are only the closest celestial objects out there.
So why was IPv6 engineered with hundreds of years of development and likely at least a stage 4 civilization in mind? No idea. Future-proofing or poor engineering? I honestly don't know. But as a stage 0 or maybe stage 1 person, I don't think that I or civilization for that matter is ready for a 128-bit internet. And we aren't even close to needing so many bits.
Going back to 64-bit processors and memory. We've passed 32 bit address width about a decade ago. But even now, we're only at about twice that size on average. We're not even close to saturating 64-bit address width, and that will likely take at least a few hundred years as well. I'd say that's more than sufficient. The internet should've really become a 64-bit internet too.34 -

					The nightmare continues.
Currently dealing with a code review from a “principal” dev (one step above senior), who is unironically called a “legendary dev” by some coworkers. It’s painfully obvious he didn’t read the code, and just started complaining and nitpicking.
It’s full of requests to do things that make absolutely no sense, and would make the code an unmaintainable mess.
• Ex: moving the logic and data collection from the module’s many callers into the module instead of just passing in the data.
• Ex: hiding api endpoint declarations by placing them in the module itself, and using magic instance variables to pass data to it. Basically: using global functions and variables instead of explicit declarations and calls.
• Ex: moving the logic to determine which api endpoint to use, for all callers, into the view.
More comments about methods being “too complex” (barely holds water) right next to comments saying “why are these separate? merge them together!”
Incredulously asking how many times I’m checking permissions and how ridiculous it all is. (The answer? Twice.)
Conflating my “permissions” param and method names with a supposedly forthcoming permissions system overhaul, and saying I shouldn’t use permissions because my code will all have to get rewritten. Even if that were true, and it’s likely not, the ticket still needs to use the current permissions. I can’t just ignore them because they might be rewritten someday.
Requests to revert some code cleanup because the reviewer thought the previous heavily-nested and uncommented versions (with code duplication) were easier to read. Unsurprisingly, he wrote them.
On the same ticket, my boss wants me to remove all styling and clientside validation, debouncing, and error messages from a form. Says “success” and “connection failed” messages are good enough. The form in question sends SMS and email using arbitrary user input for addresses. He also says it shouldn’t be denounced on the server, and doesn’t want me to bother checking permissions. Hello, spam!
Related: the legendary dev reviewer says he can’t think of a reason why we would want to disable the feature for consumers, so I should remove the consumer feature flag.
You can’t make this stuff up.7 -

I've just disassembled this LED floodlight that I bought a while ago. It's some stupid little cheapie from a dollar store, so I figured that there'd be shit inside. But I wanted that LED cob.. a power LED :3
Well, shit wasn't too far off from the truth. The component choice is reasonable, but the design of the bloody thing.. batshit insane. The LED floodlight is powered by 4 AAA batteries, connected in series. So 6VDC. That then goes into this little tactile pushbutton, into the LED cob and then a 4.7 ohm resistor.
Well that's a pretty easy circuit.. let's remove the batteries and the casement, and put it on the lab bench power supply. Probes connected to the circuit with only the resistor and the LED cob in between (I didn't want to deal with the switch). Power supply set to 6V, current limiting to 500mA, contact!! And it works, amazing! So I let it run for a while to see that nothing gets too hot.. hah. After a minute or so, smoke would come out.. LED cob was a bit warm to the touch but nothing too bad. But the resistor.. I could cook water on it if I wanted to! 100 fucking °C, and rising. What the F yo?!
So I figured that I didn't want to put the resistor in between there. Just the LED cob now, which apparently has a forward voltage somewhere between 3.2V and 3.3V depending on how I set the current (500mA and 600mA respectively). Needed a bigger heatsink though, so I jammed one of my aluminium heatsinks on there. And it worked great! Very bright too, as it takes between 1.6 and 2W of power. Just for a comparison, the lighting in my living room is 4x5W and the ones on top of my dining table are 2x3W (along with some TL bar that my landlord put there.. fluorescent I think). So yeah, 2W is quite a lot for an LED, especially when it's all concentrated into one tiny spot.
That said, back to the original design with the resistor. 2 questions I have for that moron that designed this crap. First, why use a resistor for a power LED?! They needlessly waste power, and aren't good choices for anything that consumes more than 100mA. You should use PWM for these purposes, or tune your voltage on the supply side. Second, why go with 6V when your forward voltage is 3.3 at most? Wouldn't it make more sense to use 3 batteries with 4.5V? Ah, but I know the answer to the second one. AAA cells aren't rated for high loads like this. So that's likely why the alkaline cells that I had in there before have started leaking. Thanks, certified piece of shit!
Honestly, consumer electronics are such a joke... At least there's some components that I can salvage from this crap. Mainly the LED cob, but also the resistor and the tactile pushbutton perhaps.
One last remark that I'd like to make. This floodlight was cheap garbage. But considering that you can't do it well at that price, you just shouldn't do it. You know why? Because consumers always go for the cheapest. Makes a lot of money to build at rock bottom prices and make shit, but it damages the whole industry, since now the good designs will go out of business. That's why consumer electronics is so full of crap nowadays. Some unethical profiteering gluttons saw money, and they replaced the whole assortment with nothing but garbage. I'm sure that there's a special place in hell for that kind of people.17 -

Can we ever have a truly democratic and uncensored Internet?
I am writing this in irritation and anger as I read a story headlined " Apple CEO backs China’s vision of an ‘open’ Internet as censorship reaches new heights"
Appearantly "Open Internet" as the Chinese Government understands it is, "you can say whatever you want as long as we like it". And Apple being the ass-kissing, 730-million-customer-seeking, co**suckers that they are is only happy to comply. They even removed 674 VPN apps from the Chinese version of their App Store last year to comply with government rules, stating "We strongly believe that participating in markets and bringing benefits to consumers is in the best interests of folks there and in other countries as well, We believe in engaging in governments even when we disagree.”
That was Cook by the way.
Thats two fucking contradictory statements rolled into one!!
Anyway, I know private companies are well within their rights to do what they want to make profits. And I understand Apple might not be at fault totally. But its just so frustrating... :-(
The Net Neutrality repeal in the US, this, the Aadhar shit in India and lots of other stuff thats been happening around the world, that just blatantly undermine Civil Rights and freedom makes me imagine that only a bleak future sits on horizon. Almost Orwellian.
If only people would just realise and revolt a bit... probably we would have a different future then..
I hope I am wrong and this is just the pessimist in me speaking.14 -

					Highlights from my week:
Prod access: Needed it for my last four tickets; just got it approved this week. No longer need it (urgently, anyway). During setup, sysops didn’t sync accounts, and didn’t know how. Left me to figure out the urls on my own. MFA not working.
Work phone: Discovered its MFA is tied to another coworker’s prod credentials. Security just made it work for both instead of fixing it.
My merchant communication ticket: I discovered sysops typo’d my cronjob so my feature hasn’t run since its release, and therefore never alerted merchants. They didn’t want to fix it outside of a standard release. Some yelling convinced them to do it anyway.
AWS ticket: wow I seriously don’t give a crap. Most boring ticket I have ever worked on. Also, the AWS guy said the project might not even be possible, so. Weee, great use of my time.
“Tiny, easy-peasy ticket”: Sounds easy (change a link based on record type). Impossible to test locally, or even view; requires environments I can’t access or deploy to. Specs don’t cover the record type, nor support creating them. Found and patched it anyway.
Completed work: Four of my tickets (two high-priority) have been sitting in code review for over a month now.
Prod release: Release team #2 didn’t release and didn’t bother telling anyone; Release team #1 tried releasing tickets that relied upon it. Good times were had.
QA: Begs for service status page; VP of engineering scoffs at it and says its practically impossible to build. I volunteered. QA cheered; VP ignored me.
Retro: Oops! Scrum master didn’t show up.
Coworker demo: dogshit code that works 1 out of 15 times; didn’t consider UX or user preferences. Today is code-freeze too, so it’s getting released like this. (Feature is using an AI service to rearrange menu options by usage and time of day…)
Micromanager response: “The UX doesn’t matter; our consumers want AI-driven models, and we can say we have delivered on that. It works, and that’s what matters. Good job on delivering!”
Yep.
So, how’s your week going?1 -

Consumers ruined software development and we the developers have little to no chance of changing it.
Recently I read a great blog post by someone called Nikita, the blog post talks mostly about the lack of efficiency and waste of resources modern software has and even tho I agree with the sentiment I don't agree with some things.
First of all the way the author compares software engineering to mechanical, civil and aeroespacial engineering is flawed, why? Because they all directly impact the average consumer more than laggy chrome.
Do you know why car engines have reached such high efficiency numbers? Gas prices keep increasing, why is building a skyscraper better, cheaper and safer than before? Consumers want cheaper and safer buildings, why are airplanes so carefully engineered? Consumers want safer and cheaper flights.
Wanna know what the average software consumer wants? Shiny "beautiful" software that is either dirt ship or free and does what it needs to. The difference between our end product is that average consumers DON'T see the end product, they just experience the light, intuitive experience we are demanded to provide! It's not for nothing that the stereotype of "wizard" still exists, for the average folk magic and electricity makes their devices function and we are to blame, we did our jobs TOO well!
Don't get me wrong, I am about to become a software engineer and efficient, elegant, quality code is the second best eye candy next to a 21yo LA model. BUT dirt cheap software doesn't mean quality software, software developed in a hurry is not quality software and that's what douchebag bosses and consumers demand! They want it cheap, they want it shiny and they wanted it yesterday!
Just look at where the actual effort is going, devs focus on delivering half baked solutions on time just to "harden" the software later and I don't blame them, complete, quality, efficient solutions take time and effort and that costs money, money companies and users don't want to invest most of the time. Who gets to worry about efficiency and ms speed gains? Big ass companies where every second counts because it directly affects their bottom line.
People don't give a shit and it sucks but they forfeit the right to complain the moment they start screaming about the buttons not glaring when hovered upon rather than the 60sec bootup, actual efforts to make quality software are made on people's own time or time critical projects.
You put up a nice example with the python tweet snippet, you have a python script that runs everyday and takes 1.6 seconds, what if I told you I'll pay you 50 cents for you to translate it to Rust and it takes you 6 hours or better what if you do it for free?
The answer to that sort of questions is given every day when "enganeers" across the lake claim to make you an Uber app for 100 bucks in 5 days, people just don't care, we do and that's why developers often end up with the fancy stuff and creating startups from the ground up, they put in the effort and they are compensated for it.
I agree things will get better, things are getting better and we are working to make programs and systems more efficient (specially in the Open Source community or high end Tech companies) but unless consumers and university teachers change their mindset not much can be done about the regular folk.
For now my mother doesn't care if her Android phone takes too much time to turn on as long as it runs Candy Crush just fine. On my part I'll keep programming the best I can, optimizing the best I can for my own projects and others because that's just how I roll, but if I'm hungry I won't hesitate to give you the performance you pay for.

I have discovered a fresh hell
Some guy I’ve never met or heard of in the office lobbed a comment at one of my *approved and merged* pull requests. He doesn’t say anything specific, only that my REST urls are not in line with naming convention. That’s all he says, and I’ve already walked the URL consumers through the code and given them the URLS.
I’m really annoyed that this guy won’t just say what he has in mind, but fine whatever this is a professional environment and developers are not known for being a diplomatic people. Let it go and get your work done!
I do some googling and find an obvious change that needs to happen- I implement it, open a new pull request and inform my URL consumers of the change.
This rando still isn’t satisfied and still won’t say what needs to change. I am on round 3 of this wonderful cycle and this guy is acting all fuckin HAUGHTY about it. “Here is a list of conventions I found googling, you should read them even if it takes 4 hours because it will benefit your career”
Sure dog you’re probably right on that one but we are in a professional environment and at this point you are holding up production so you can wave your dick around! Just SAY WHAT YOU MEAN SO WE CAN MAKE THE CHANGES AND GET OUR WORK DONE4 -

Shootout to my 2.5GB Maxtor hard drive, that I heavily used between 1997 and 2001. There were no USB drives, and CD burners were too expensive for consumers. So I used to open my PC case, remove the drive (along with Windows and my software), bring it around at my friend's house and have fun while copying hundreds of mp3s, patiently downloaded from filesharing and 56k modems or ripped from CD audio, in and out.
One time it fell out from my desk, hitting hard floor big time. I thought I lost it forever, and basically my whole PC in it. Then I tried plugging again its IDE and power connectors, and it was still working! ... well, half of it. That badass still continued to work with one of its two platters crashed, and got some more mp3s with it.
Maybe I still have it...1 -

Buckle up, it's a long one.
Let me tell you why "Tree Shaking" is stupidity incarnate and why Rich Harris needs to stop talking about things he doesn't understand.
For reference, this is a direct response to the 2015 article here: https://medium.com/@Rich_Harris/...
"Tree shaking", as Rich puts it, is NOT dead code removal apparently, but instead only picking the parts that are actually used.
However, Rich has never heard of a C compiler, apparently. In C (or any systems language with basic optimizations), public (visible) members exposed to library consumers must have that code available to them, obviously. However, all of the other cruft that you don't actually use is removed - hence, dead code removal.
How does the compiler do that? Well, it does what Rich calls "tree shaking" by evaluating all of the pieces of code that are used by any codepaths used by any of the exported symbols, not just the "main module" (which doesn't exist in systems libraries).
It's the SAME FUCKING THING, he's just not researched enough to fully fucking understand that. But sure, tell me how the javascript community apparently invented something ELSE that you REALLY just repackaged and made more bloated/downright wrong (React Hooks, webpack, WebAssembly, etc.)
Speaking of Javascript, "tree shaking" is impossible to do with any degree of confidence, unlike statically typed/well defined languages. This is because you can create artificial references to values at runtime using string functions - which means, with the right input, almost anything can be run depending on the input.
How do you figure out what can and can't be? You can't! Since there is a runtime-based codepath and decision tree, you run into properties of Turing's halting problem, which cannot be solved completely.
With stricter languages such as C (which is where "dead code removal" is used quite aggressively), you can make very strong assertions at compile time about the usage of code. This is simply how C is still thousands of times faster than Javascript.
So no, Rich Harris, dead code removal is not "silly". Your entire premise about "live code inclusion" is technical jargon and buzzwordy drivel. Empty words at best.
This sort of shit is annoying and only feeds into this cycle of the web community not being Special enough and having to reinvent every single fucking facet of operating systems in your shitty bloated spyware-like browser and brand it with flashy Matrix-esque imagery and prose.
Fuck all of it.20 -

Mozilla has announced that it's rolling out changes under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) to all Firefox users worldwide.
According to report of ZDNet: The CCPA (America's privacy legislation) came into effect on January 1, 2020, offering Californian users data-protection rules. Much like Europe's GDPR, the CCPA gives consumers the right to know what personal information is collected about them and to be able to access it. While the law technically only applies to data processed about residents in California, US. But Mozilla notes it was one of the few companies to endorse CCPA from the outset. Mozilla has now outlined the key change it's made to Firefox, which will ensure CCPA regulations benefit all its users worldwide. The main change it's introducing is allowing users to request that Mozilla deletes Firefox telemetry data stored on its servers. That data doesn't include web history, which Mozilla doesn't collect anyway, but it does include data about how many tabs were opened and browser session lengths. The new control will ship in the next version of Firefox on January 7, which will include a feature to request desktop telemetry data be deleted directly from the browser.6 -

My smartphone's fingerprint reader just stopped working, after EXACTLY 36 months of usage.
I always took care of this device to make it last, as I'm worried about resources consumption and what the production chain involves (like having working children in African mines).
I'll try to keep using it as long as possible, but I can't stop thinking that this problem shouldn't be always on us, the consumers, suffering defective devices designed to last only for two years.
We should put more pressure on producers to reduce electronic waste, and to invest more on the maintenance & repairing sectors (which are almost non-existent).

During one of our visits at Konza City, Machakos county in Kenya, my team and I encountered a big problem accessing to viable water. Most times we enquired for water, we were handed a bottle of bought water. This for a day or few days would be affordable for some, but for a lifetime of a middle income person, it will be way too much expensive. Of ten people we encountered 8 complained of a proper mechanism to access to viable water. This to us was a very demanding problem, that needed to be sorted out immediately. Majority of the people were unable to conduct income generating activities such as farming because of the nature of the kind of water and its scarcity as well.
Such a scenario demands for an immediate way to solve this problem. Various ways have been put into practice to ensure sustainability of water conservation and management. However most of them have been futile on the aspect of sustainability. As part of our research we also considered to check out of the formal mechanisms put in place to ensure proper acquisition of water, and one of them we saw was tree planting, which was not sustainable at all, also some few piped water was being transported very long distances from the destinations, this however did not solve the immediate needs of the people. We found out that the area has a large body mass of salty water which was not viable for them to conduct any constructive activity. This was hint enough to help us find a way to curb this demanding challenge. Presence of salty water was the first step of our solution.
SOLUTION
We came up with an IOT based system to help curb this problem. Our system entails purification of the salty water through electrolysis, the device is places at an area where the body mass of water is located, it drills for a suitable depth and allow the salty water to flow into it. Various sets of tanks and valves are situated next to it, these tanks acts as to contain the salty water temporarily. A high power source is then connected to each tank, this enable the separation of Chlorine ions from Hydrogen Ions by electrolysis through electrolysis, salt is then separated and allowed to flow from the lower chamber of the tanks, allowing clean water to from to the preceding tanks, the preceding tanks contains various chemicals to remove any remaining impurities. The whole entire process is managed by the action of sensors. Water alkalinity, turbidity and ph are monitored and relayed onto a mobile phone, this then follows a predictive analysis of the data history stored then makes up a decision to increase flow of water in the valves or to decrease its flow. This being a hot prone area, we opted to maximize harnessing of power through solar power, this power availability is almost perfect to provide us with at least 440V constant supply to facilitate faster electrolysis of the salty water.
Being a drought prone area, it was key that the outlet water should be cold and comfortable for consumers to use, so we also coupled our output chamber with cooling tanks, these tanks are managed via our mobile application, the information relayed from it in terms of temperature and humidity are sent to it. This information is key in helping us produce water at optimum states, enabling us to fully manage supply and input of the water from the water bodies.
By the use of natural language processing, we are able to automatically control flow and feeing of the valves to and fro using Voice, one could say “The output water is too hot”, and the system would respond by increasing the speed of the fans and making the tanks provide very cold water. Additional to this system, we have prepared short video tutorials and documents enlighting people on how to conserve water and maintain the optimum state of the green economy.
IBM/OPEN SOURCE TECHNOLOGIES
For a start, we have implemented our project using esp8266 microcontrollers, sensors, transducers and low payload containers to demonstrate our project. Previously we have used Google’s firebase cloud platform to ensure realtimeness of data to-and-fro relay to the mobile. This has proven workable for most cases, whether on a small scale or large scale, however we meet challenges such as change in the fingerprint keys that renders our device not workable, we intend to overcome this problem by moving to IBM bluemix platform.
We use C++ Programming language for our microcontrollers and sensor communication, in some cases we use Python programming language to process neuro-networks for our microcontrollers.
Any feedback conserning this project please?

I'm still wet behind the ears as developers go, and about a month ago I cobbled together a webservice. After many bug fixes I somehow got it working as intended, held together by tape and shoestring and creaking all the while.
This week, one of the consumers of the service wanted me to open it back up to change the name of the request .xsd. no functionality changes, just a name change.
I protested, worried my service would fall apart if I breathed on it. But he insisted so I made the change.
I just tested it and... it's working as intended.

You know, I've really been thinking about renouncing my love for Microsoft's products. I got into the tech world through them, so their stuff was all I really knew. It's like a non-dev growing up using Mac and iPhone. You don't really know what other hardware and software can do (especially since Microsoft is now acting a LOT like Apple nowadays). Ever since they killed Windows Phone, I started seeing past the rose-colored glasses. They've annoyed me with one slip-up after the next. The only things that have kept me tied to them are my Windows Insider membership, and their developer platform. Now that I've seen things like Fuchsia and Linux, I realize that the way Microsoft is going about technology is painful to developers and consumers alike, and this is now beginning to hurt their bottom line. I'm sick of it.
The issue is that if I leave the Microsoft platform, I will have no time to waste. I spent the last 2 yeas cozying up to them, and now I will need to find other platforms, languages, and utilities to build a portfolio from. This also means that I will despise pretty much every major tech company for different reasons (Apple for locked-down hardware, Microsoft for locked-down software, Google for it's monopolistic actions and its unfair policies and terms, Amazon for its invasiveness, etc). If things get worse, I'll probably end up going to Linux and joining the open-source community. The only worry I have is what I'll do for a career. I'm almost halfway to getting an Associates in Computer Science, but where do I go from there? Can't make a living open-source (unless I get patrons, which is unlikely), will probably abandon my dream of joining Microsoft or Google, and I don't currently specialize in any particular area of development yet. I want to spend my life dealing with tech and software. But right now, I've got next to no plans. I've got a lot of thinking to do...2 -

Me: "replacement SSD, laptop's finally failing"
Rando: "Yeah, I totally get you, I hate that. How old is it? Hopefully you got a couple years outta it?"
Me: "over 7yrs old."
Rando: "Wow! Mustve not used it too much, still that's pretty long."
Me: "Actually, it's been my primary device, heavily used, as I'm a dev. I just know what/when to use SSD vs the HDD."
Rando: "Duuude, that's awesome!...wait...why haven't you just bought a new laptop yet?"
Me: "I'm not for hardware abuse or burning money"

Someone once told me the following:
Processors, as good as they are, will always make mistakes.
When processors (i3, i5, i7, ...) are tested before distribution, they are categorized on the amount of mistakes they make. An i7 7700k for example which makes very few mistakes is labeled as a 'Type A', while another i7 7700k with the exact same name and specs makes a little bit more mistakes, and is labeled as 'Type B'.
All the 'Type A' processors are used and sold in business class laptops and workstations while the 'Type B' ones are sold to consumers.
After some research I couldn't find anything on it on the internet.
Anyone know if this is true or straight up bullshit?7 -

(Warning: This rant includes nonsense, nightposting, unstructured thoughts, a dissenting opinion, and a purposeless, stupid joke in the beginning. Reader discretion is advised.)
honestly the whole "ARM solves every x86 problem!" thing doesn't seem to work out in my head:
- Not all ARM chips are the same, nor are they perfectly compatible with each other. This could lead to issues for consumers, for developers or both. There are toolchains that work with almost all of them... though endianness is still an issue, and you KNOW there's not gonna be an enforced standard. (These toolchains also don't do the best job on optimization.)
- ARM has a lot of interesting features. Not a lot of them have been rigorously checked for security, as they aren't as common as x86 CPUs. That's a nightmare on its own.
- ARM or Thumb? I can already see some large company is going to INSIST AND ENFORCE everything used internally to 100% be a specific mode for some bullshit reason. That's already not fun on a higher level, i.e. what software can be used for dev work, etc.
- Backwards compatibility. Most companies either over-embrace change and nothing is guaranteed to work at any given time, or become so set in their ways they're still pulling Amigas and 386 machines out of their teeth to this day. The latter seems to be a larger portion of companies from what I see when people have issues working with said company, so x86 carryover is going to be required that is both relatively flawless AND fairly fast, which isn't really doable.
- The awkward adjustment period. Dear fuck, if you thought early UEFI and GPT implementations were rough, how do you think changing the hardware model will go? We don't even have a standard for the new model yet! What will we keep? What will we replace? What ARM version will we use? All the hardware we use is so dependent on knowing exactly what other hardware will do that changing out the processor has a high likelihood of not being enough.
I'm just waiting for another clusterfuck of multiple non-standard branching sets of PCs to happen over this. I know it has a decent chance of happening, we can't follow standards very well even now, and it's been 30+ years since they were widely accepted.5 -

Tried an ad blocker for the first time yesterday. Well what do ya know? Websites I use will not let me access them unless I turn it off. I KNEW something like this would happen. When they were first coming out a few years ago, I said to myself "If everyone is going to be blocking ads, how will we be able to go to these sites for free?"
I expected the worst. I thought they'd put free websites behind a pay wall, much like ad-free mobile applications I would make. Thank GOD that didn't happen. This system is a lot more fair in my opinion. I'm just glad they don't do the same with popup-blockers. Then we would have an issue.
In all seriousness, as annoying as some websites are with their trashy, misleading, or fake ads, they (kinda) have to be there in order for devs to make money and for consumers to be somewhat happy. That is why I personally will not use ad blockers.6 -

I got a long weekend. I decided to see what React has been up to these days.
I happen to learn more about Suspense that now it allows f**king data fetching with relay.
I decided to give it a try . First time I am actually inclined towards trying out relay just so I can see what the f**king fuss about `Suspense` is all about.
Honestly the API is much better than what it looks like .
However what the fuck is this fucking relay. They have a page in their doc called glossary and most of the sections says TODO .
I wanted to see how the fuck data driven code splitting works . Due to the lack of proper documentation about it I could not get it right for two days . I stumbled upon couple of docs / blogs / github issues about it and then finally managed to get it working .
Well the end result wasn't as cool as I thought it would. The fucking API's to achieve this needless method of code splitting is insane
There are lot of better ways to achieve this with Suspense and the API relay offers is so shitty and not fucking type safe.
Now today I wanna learn more about the directives relay offers and there is no fucking documentation about them except for a fucking bold `TODO` explanation under the sections.
If relay developers thinks that they are fucking wizards and talk all about improving fucking performance . Please don't fucking over engineer API's and make it un un maintainable for the consumers of the library
Wow this feels good . first Day in rant and I m feeling great4 -

A very long rant.. but I'm looking to share some experiences, maybe a different perspective.. huge changes at the company.
So my company is starting our microservices journey (we have a 359 retail websites at this moment)
First question was: What to build first?
The first thing we had to do was to decide what we wanted to build as our first microservice. We went looking for a microservice that can be used read only, consumers could easily implement without overhauling production software and is isolated from other processes.
We’ve ended up with building a catalog service as our first microservice. That catalog service provides consumers of the microservice information of our catalog and its most essential information about items in the catalog.
By starting with building the catalog service the team could focus on building the microservice without any time pressure. The initial functionalities of the catalog service were being created to replace existing functionality which were working fine.
Because we choose such an isolated functionality we were able to introduce the new catalog service into production step by step. Instead of replacing the search functionality of the webshops using a big-bang approach, we choose A/B split testing to measure our changes and gradually increase the load of the microservice.
Next step: Choosing a datastore
The search engine that was in production when we started this project was making user of Solr. Due to the use of Lucene it was performing very well as a search engine, but from engineering perspective it lacked some functionalities. It came short if you wanted to run it in a cluster environment, configuring it was hard and not user friendly and last but not least, development of Solr seemed to be grinded to a halt.
Elasticsearch started entering the scene as a competitor for Solr and brought interesting features. Still using Lucene, which we were happy with, it was build with clustering in mind and being provided out of the box. Managing Elasticsearch was easy since there are REST APIs for configuration and as a fallback there are YAML configurations available.
We decided to use Elasticsearch since it provides us the strengths and capabilities of Lucene with the added joy of easy configuration, clustering and a lively community driving the project.
Even bigger challenge? Which programming language will we use
The team responsible for developing this first microservice consists out of a group web developers. So when looking for a programming language for the microservice, we went searching for a language close to their hearts and expertise. At that time a typical web developer at least had knowledge of PHP and Javascript.
What we’ve noticed during researching various languages is that almost all actions done by the catalog service will boil down to the following paradigm:
- Execute a HTTP call to fetch some JSON
- Transform JSON to a desired output
- Respond with the transformed JSON
Actions that easily can be done in a parallel and asynchronous manner and mainly consists out of transforming JSON from the source to a desired output. The programming language used for the catalog service should hold strong qualifications for those kind of actions.
Another thing to notice is that some functionalities that will be built using the catalog service will result into a high level of concurrent requests. For example the type-ahead functionality will trigger several requests to the catalog service per usage of a user.
To us, PHP and .NET at that time weren’t sufficient enough to us for building the catalog service based on the requirements we’ve set. Eventually we’ve decided to use Node.js which is better suited for the things we are looking for as described earlier. Node.js provides a non-blocking I/O model and being event driven helps us developing a high performance microservice.
The leap to start programming Node.js is relatively small since it basically is Javascript. A language that is familiar for the developers around that time. While Node.js is displaying some new concepts it is relatively easy for a developer to start using it.
The beauty of microservices and the isolation it provides, is that you can choose the best tool for that particular microservice. Not all microservices will be developed using Node.js and Elasticsearch. All kinds of combinations might arise and this is what makes the microservices architecture so flexible.
Even when Node.js or Elasticsearch turns out to be a bad choice for the catalog service it is relatively easy to switch that choice for magic ‘X’ or component ‘Z’. By focussing on creating a solid API the components that are driving that API don’t matter that much. It should do what you ask of it and when it is lacking you just replace it.
Many more headaches to come later this year ;)3 -

Yesterday, one of the consumers of my web service complained that I had made a lot of work for him by changing the schemas for said service.
Today, I was about 20 minutes from hitting ‘commit’ and mailing him the final details for the service & declaring it done.
He comes by to ask me to put a feature back in that I took out earlier at his request. I commented it out last week and just this morning finally deleted the comments in preparation for submitting the final build -

How Microsoft expect anyone to develop using any technology they introduce with so many limitations.
Moi a Microsoft dumb enthusiast said to myself : hey dude you are a developer stop whining about the app gap bust a move create decent array of apps and release them, went into a full project management mode wrote requirements did sketches and some prototypes, time to execute.
1. first app: image files organizer, viewer , with some light editor capabilities and album creator after some work i came to discover that you don't have a proper file system APIs to show a folder tree view in my app "WTF" there are work arounds and dirty solutions but seriously? i can only access the stupid media folders created by Microsoft and that's it.
so i ditched the apps until uwp become a development tools with target audience other than kids who eat crayons, and while using "Edge" i thought to my self : "you know what dude extensions are cool and if you do something like a speed dial it would be awesome"
fire up my text editor started writing my extension to discover that:
"you cannot use localStorage from local HTML files".
moral of the story
MS is failing with consumers not because people hate MS but rather MS hates itself like no engineer over there said to him self this is fking stupid ?
other limitations :
no proper system tray access
no registry access what so ever
and i have started 2 days ago.
yeah Ms this is the main app gap problem the uwp sucks big time. compared to android Java which has a great access to every aspect of the device even apple provide better APIs for their systems.
if uwp is MS future then rip MS.
please i stand corrected if anyone knows better.2 -

Sydochen has posted a rant where he is nt really sure why people hate Java, and I decided to publicly post my explanation of this phenomenon, please, from my point of view.
So there is this quite large domain, on which one or two academical studies are built, such as business informatics and applied system engineering which I find extremely interesting and fun, that is called, ironically, SAD. And then there are videos on youtube, by programmers who just can't settle the fuck down. Those videos I am talking about are rants about OOP in general, which, as we all know, is a huge part of studies in the aforementioned domain. What these people are even talking about?
Absolutely obvious, there is no sense in making a software in a linear pattern. Since Bikelsoft has conveniently patched consumers up with GUI based software, the core concept of which is EDP (event driven programming or alternatively, at least OS events queue-ing), the completely functional, linear approach in such environment does not make much sense in terms of the maintainability of the software. Uhm, raise your hand if you ever tried to linearly build a complex GUI system in a single function call on GTK, which does allow you to disregard any responsibility separation pattern of SAD, such as long loved MVC...
Additionally, OOP is mandatory in business because it does allow us to mount abstraction levels and encapsulate actual dataflow behind them, which, of course, lowers the costs of the development.
What happy programmers are talking about usually is the complexity of the task of doing the OOP right in the sense of an overflow of straight composition classes (that do nothing but forward data from lower to upper abstraction levels and vice versa) and the situation of responsibility chain break (this is when a class from lower level directly!! notifies a class of a higher level about something ignoring the fact that there is a chain of other classes between them). And that's it. These guys also do vouch for functional programming, and it's a completely different argument, and there is no reason not to do it in algorithmical, implementational part of the project, of course, but yeah...
So where does Java kick in you think?
Well, guess what language popularized programming in general and OOP in particular. Java is doing a lot of things in a modern way. Of course, if it's 1995 outside *lenny face*. Yeah, fuck AOT, fuck memory management responsibility, all to the maximum towards solving the real applicative tasks.
Have you ever tried to learn to apply Text Watchers in Android with Java? Then you know about inline overloading and inline abstract class implementation. This is not right. This reduces readability and reusability.
Have you ever used Volley on Android? Newbies to Android programming surely should have. Quite verbose boilerplate in google docs, huh?
Have you seen intents? The Android API is, little said, messy with all the support libs and Context class ancestors. Remember how many times the language has helped you to properly orient in all of this hierarchy, when overloading method declaration requires you to use 2 lines instead of 1. Too verbose, too hesitant, distracting - that's what the lang and the api is. Fucking toString() is hilarious. Reference comparison is unintuitive. Obviously poor practices are not banned. Ancient tools. Import hell. Slow evolution.
C# has ripped Java off like an utter cunt, yet it's a piece of cake to maintain a solid patternization and structure, and keep your code clean and readable. Yet, Cs6 already was okay featuring optionally nullable fields and safe optional dereferencing, while we get finally get lambda expressions in J8, in 20-fucking-14.
Java did good back then, but when we joke about dumb indian developers, they are coding it in Java. So yeah.
To sum up, it's easy to make code unreadable with Java, and Java is a tool with which developers usually disregard the patterns of SAD. -

Poor Optimized ?
the Windows 10 optimization is joke, all my surface laptop, pro, book I have tested. They claim that consume less Ram, but when using it along side electron and Win32 app. It feel so much choppy and lag. I mean WTF ?
UWP was made for optimize low specs SoC such as ARM base, now my laptop running on a core I5 + GPU still lag ??

You can find almost anything on webshops like Amazon, but you can't buy almost anything. In many cases they don't ship outside the US and if they do it costs a fortune. In Europe the range of products is very limited in comparison to the US. If you do find the same items, they cost more than double the price compared to the US, and then they don't ship to my country anyway. And if they do, most of the times we have to pay VAT twice. It's FUCKING UNFAIR and OUTRAGEOUS that in AD2017 consumers have so different conditions depening on geographic location. It sucks to live in Europe when it comes to shopping, and it sucks even more to live in Åland Islands when it comes to shopping online.

Based in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, our team is ready to help you take your online presence to the next level.
What is Digital Marketing and Why Does Your Business Need It?
Digital marketing refers to the use of digital channels—such as search engines, social media, email, and websites—to promote products or services. In today’s world, every business needs a strong online presence to thrive. Traditional marketing methods are no longer enough to capture the attention of modern consumers, who spend most of their time online.
With digital marketing, you can engage with your target audience in a more personalized and cost-effective manner, while also measuring the success of your efforts in real-time. The beauty of digital marketing lies in its ability to reach a global audience while providing tools to track, optimize, and refine campaigns for maximum impact.
Performance Marketing: Results-Driven Strategies for Maximum ROI
One of the key pillars of Booster Marketing Hub is our focus on performance marketing. Unlike traditional marketing, which may rely on broad exposure, performance marketing is all about driving measurable results. This data-driven approach ensures that every marketing dollar you spend delivers value and contributes to your business goals.
What is Performance Marketing?
Performance marketing involves paying for marketing efforts based on the results they deliver. These results can include actions such as clicks, leads, or sales. Whether you're running Google Ads, Facebook Ads, or other pay-per-click campaigns, performance marketing ensures that you are only paying for what works.
Here’s how Booster Marketing Hub helps businesses achieve better performance through performance marketing:

Another core area where Booster Marketing Hub excels is in inbound marketing. This approach focuses on attracting potential customers by providing valuable content, building trust, and nurturing relationships. Unlike traditional outbound marketing methods that interrupt your audience, inbound marketing focuses on delivering content that draws customers to you.
What is Inbound Marketing?
Inbound marketing is a strategy that focuses on attracting customers through relevant and helpful content. Instead of pushing your message to a wide audience, inbound marketing helps pull your target audience in by providing the information, products, or services they are looking for. This strategy is built on creating valuable content such as blog posts, social media updates, videos, eBooks, and more.
At Booster Marketing Hub, we design and execute inbound marketing strategies that speak directly to the needs and pain points of your potential customers. Here’s how we do it:

The lessons learned from the illusion of cryptocurrency recovery can be a cautionary tale for those who have experienced the heartbreak of lost digital assets. The story of the "BLOCKCHAIN CYBER RETRIEVE that helped recoup a staggering 55,000 bitcoins serves as a prime example of the complexities and risks involved in this arena. While the initial promise of a miraculous recovery may have seemed like a lifeline, the reality is often far more nuanced. This episode underscores the importance of comprehensive security measures, the dangers of placing blind trust in unverified sources, and the harsh realities that can unfold when navigating the murky waters of the crypto ecosystem. Cryptocurrency, with its decentralized nature and lack of centralized oversight, can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it offers unprecedented financial freedom and control, but on the other, it presents a unique set of challenges when things go awry. The allure of the "BLOCKCHAIN CYBER RETRIEVE" service, with its claims of specialized expertise and the ability to recover even the most elusive of lost funds, can be tempting for those desperate to reclaim their digital wealth. However, the reality is that such services often operate in a legal and ethical gray area, with little to no accountability or guarantees of success. The lessons learned from this experience underscore the critical importance of proactive security measures, such as the use of hardware wallets, multi-factor authentication, and regular backups of private keys. It also highlights the need for greater transparency and regulation within the cryptocurrency industry, to protect consumers from falling victim to fraudulent schemes and unscrupulous actors. Furthermore, this incident serves as a stark reminder that the recovery of lost cryptocurrencies is a complex and challenging endeavor, requiring specialized technical expertise and a deep understanding of the underlying blockchain technology. As the cryptocurrency landscape continues to evolve, it is essential for investors and enthusiasts alike to approach the recovery of lost assets with caution and a clear understanding of the risks involved. By learning from this experience, individuals can better equip themselves to navigate the treacherous waters of cryptocurrency recovery, prioritizing security, due diligence, and a realistic assessment of the challenges at hand. I can say without hesitation that BLOCKCHAIN CYBER RETRIEVE is a genuine, trustworthy company that offers real solutions for those who find themselves in a similar situation. If you’ve lost access to your crypto, whether it's ETH or another currency, and you've been burned by other so-called "recovery" firms, I urge you to give BLOCKCHAIN CYBER RETRIEVE a chance.

I've built a number of apis consumed by internal devs. Then there's one which I consumed in a mobile client–smoothest experience ever. I dogfed myself and empathised with any blind spot or skirmish that would have arisen if there was an external body
The ones consumed by others always end in tears and loggerheads. There was one with this girl who called me names and turned my relationship sour with the guys who contracted me. Our Altercation culminated in her hooking me, going as far as deleting personal media shared. That was my darkest hour supporting an api. Well, it started with her grumpy over broken endpoints, which I maintain were not that many
I wasn't an amateur dev at the time: I used conventions mastered post-suphle. Code was backed by automated tests and well documented. Now that I think of it, our earliest, innocuous argument was brought about by her incompetence. She didn't know some rudimentary stuff like how to build payloads or format to send to an api. Funny enough, the lead who contracted us both strongly vouched for her cuz they once worked together. He claimed she was no noob so I must be the faulty one
I'm about to release another api now. I've had all the time in the world to build it to production standard. Over 200 tests, all passing. In my head, I'm thinking, what could go wrong? Stakeholder introduced a feature breaking fundamental functionality. I refactored, implemented, connected tons of apis stubbed out in tests. Painstakingly began to fix broken tests to both fit integrated api behaviour and ensure system integrity is intact. Shit, software engineering is arduous. This is best case scenario unlike front end web or mobile where there is an unfixable bug or a ui requirement stumping you for literal days
Anyway atp I believe I've done my homework. The only thing that would likely do me in are those damned apis I rely on. One malformed response or missing key is enough to undo my meticulous efforts. I strongly hope not to have a huge fallout with the front end dev and the numerous third party consumers we're expecting
As an aside, On a different project entirely piggybacking off external apis, I'm supposed to write tests to verify their status. I wonder whether this is tenable or a waste of effort. But on paper, it's more reliable than building a postman collection and sending them from there -

Custom Lip Gloss Boxes: The Ultimate Guide to Stylish and Functional Packaging
In the beauty industry, packaging is just as important as the product itself. It serves not only to protect and preserve the product but also plays a pivotal role in branding, marketing, and influencing consumer choices. When it comes to lip gloss, custom packaging offers endless possibilities to create a unique brand presence. Custom lip gloss boxes are a key element in delivering that first impression, helping brands stand out in a competitive market.
This article delves into the importance of custom lip gloss boxes, their benefits, design considerations, and the latest trends shaping this packaging solution.
Why Custom Lip Gloss Boxes Matter
Lip gloss is a beauty staple, often viewed as a small, portable item, but its impact on a brand’s image can be significant. Custom lip gloss boxes elevate the product’s appeal, making it more attractive to consumers while offering protection during transport and storage. These boxes not only serve a practical purpose but also communicate a brand's values, creativity, and quality.
Key Benefits of Custom Lip Gloss Boxes
Brand Differentiation Custom packaging allows brands to create a distinct identity in the crowded beauty industry. With a range of customization options including colors, shapes, finishes, and design elements, brands can craft packaging that reflects their personality and vision, ensuring that their lip gloss stands out on store shelves.
Effective Marketing Tool A well-designed lip gloss box doubles as a marketing tool. With space for logos, taglines, product descriptions, and even social media handles, custom packaging reinforces brand recognition and helps consumers remember your product long after purchase.
Enhanced Product Protection While lip gloss tubes are often sturdy, custom boxes provide an added layer of protection, especially during shipping and handling. These boxes ensure the product arrives in perfect condition, preventing damage from impact, exposure to sunlight, or moisture.
Improved Consumer Experience Attractive and thoughtfully designed packaging enhances the unboxing experience, making it memorable for customers. This can lead to positive word-of-mouth, repeat purchases, and social media shares, all of which contribute to brand loyalty.
Eco-Friendly Options Many beauty brands are now shifting toward sustainable packaging solutions. Custom lip gloss boxes can be made from eco-friendly materials such as recycled cardboard or biodegradable paper. This not only reduces the environmental impact but also appeals to environmentally-conscious consumers.
Cost-Effective and Scalable Custom lip gloss boxes can be produced at scale, making them cost-effective for brands. Bulk production reduces the per-unit cost, making it an affordable option for businesses of all sizes, from boutique brands to large cosmetic companies.
Design Considerations for Custom Lip Gloss Boxes
Creating custom packaging involves several design elements that must be carefully thought out to achieve the desired look and functionality. Here are key aspects to consider:
Material Choice The material used for the custom lip gloss boxes should be durable yet lightweight. Popular materials include cardboard, kraft paper, and rigid boxes. Brands focused on sustainability may opt for eco-friendly or recycled materials, which can still deliver a high-end feel.
Size and Shape The size of the box should fit the lip gloss container snugly to avoid unnecessary movement and potential damage. While traditional rectangular boxes are common, unique shapes such as hexagonal or cylindrical boxes can make your packaging stand out.
Branding Elements Incorporating your brand’s logo, color palette, and fonts is essential in creating packaging that resonates with your target audience. Consistent use of branding elements across all your products helps build brand identity and consumer trust.
Printing and Finishing Options Various printing techniques and finishes can enhance the look and feel of your custom lip gloss boxes
Window Cutouts Adding a transparent window to your lip gloss boxes allows consumers to see the actual product without opening the packaging. This feature is particularly appealing when showcasing different lip gloss shades, helping consumers make purchasing decisions quickly.
Sustainability As consumers become more eco-conscious, brands can differentiate themselves by using recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable packaging materials. Eco-friendly packaging not only reduces your brand's carbon footprint but also enhances its image as a socially responsible entity.
Conclusion
Custom lip gloss boxes are a crucial element in building a strong brand presence and ensuring that your product catches consumers' attention.

Custom Tuck boxes give aesthetics to your products; this is how
If you're looking for a way to add aesthetics to your products, then tuck boxes are a perfect choice. These boxes are unique and stylish products that can just- do-do-what-you-want- and-blessed with lots of functionality. They provide a work scape for your products tailored to your specific market, and they are easy to order online.
Well, let's look at all these things to make them perfect for your business.
• The basic premise is to provide a way for customers to see your product in new and different ways.
• They are unique because they offer a do-it-yourself option, not typically seen in the market.
• You can order tuck boxes through the website or other means such as email or contact a sales representative to request them.
• The benefits of custom boxes for businesses are wide-ranging. Some reasons why people may want to buy Tuck boxes include looking like a pro, having plenty of features, or being stylish.
• Tuck boxes are easy to order and customized to your specific market.
Flat-Pack Tuck Boxes and Their Multiple Benefits:
• Flat-Pack is a more sophisticated version of the tuck box. They have the same basic premise as tuck boxes, but they are manufactured to be more ergonomic and user-friendly.
• These boxes are also unique because they allow customers to see your product in a new and different way than old-style packaging.
• The benefits of flat-pack tuck boxes for businesses are wide-ranging. Some reasons why people may need to use these boxes are:
• Ease of use.
• Environmental benefits.
• Improved product visibility.
Let's Look Some Thing More:
Because tuck boxes are made from paper and cardboard, they are a green alternative to plastic packaging. This makes them great for businesses that want to be environmentally conscious while also providing their customers with an easy way to package their products.
Compared to traditional plastic packaging, such boxes provide a much more user-friendly experience for people who purchase products online or in stores. They are designed to be easy to open and close, meaning that the consumer does not have to worry about struggling with the packaging. This makes the box ideal for both businesses and consumers.
These boxes are not only easy to open and close, but they are also easy to store. They can be kept flat or folded up for easy storage in a drawer or cupboard when not in use. This makes them ideal for people who store products that need packaging regularly.
Another benefit of tuck boxes is that they are made from sturdy paper and cardboard. This means that they are much more durable than plastic tuck boxes. Plastic tuck boxes can be damaged and torn easily, significantly if they are dropped or mishandled during shipping. If a flat-pack tuck box is accidentally dropped, it will not break or tear, making it the ideal packaging option for busy businesses that must handle many products at once.
Because flat-pack tuck boxes are available in a wide range of sizes, they are perfect for packaging various products. They can be used to package everything from vitamins to buttons, and they are also great for packaging small books or magazines. Tuck boxes can also store computer discs and other electronic media.

This box style has two halves glued around the inner shell and can be made with custom shapes, colors, and graphics.
The tuck box is a simple packaging solution for small products. The box is made from a single sheet of paperboard with die-cut corners and folded into two halves. This is often used with other packaging elements to present the product to consumers in retail environments.

The Timeless Appeal of Leather Clothing
Leather clothing has long been associated with style, durability, and a touch of rebellion. From the rugged appeal of leather clothing to the sophisticated charm of leather skirts and trousers, this material continues to be a staple in fashion. Over the decades, leather has evolved from being a purely functional material to a high-fashion statement, embraced by designers and consumers alike.
A Brief History of Leather Clothing:
Leather garments have been worn for centuries, dating back to ancient civilizations where leather was used for protection against harsh weather conditions. In the early 20th century, leather jackets became iconic among aviators and military personnel due to their resilience and warmth. By the 1950s, Hollywood rebels like Marlon Brando and James Dean made leather synonymous with youth rebellion, cementing its status in pop culture. Today, leather remains a symbol of edginess, luxury, and versatility.
Types of Leather Used in Clothing:
There are several types of leather used in the fashion industry, each offering unique characteristics:
Full-Grain Leather: The highest quality, known for its durability and natural appearance.
Top-Grain Leather: Slightly processed for a smoother finish while retaining strength.
Genuine Leather: More affordable and often used in budget-friendly fashion.
Faux Leather: A synthetic alternative that mimics real leather while being more sustainable and cruelty-free.
Popular Leather Clothing Items
Leather can be fashioned into a variety of garments, each exuding its own appeal:
Leather Jackets: A timeless piece that suits both casual and formal styles.
Leather Pants and Skirts: Offering a bold and sleek look for various occasions.
Leather Dresses: A chic choice for those who love a unique yet elegant appearance.
Leather Boots and Accessories: From gloves to belts, leather extends beyond clothing into stylish accessories.
Sustainability and Ethical Considerations
With growing concerns about environmental impact and animal welfare, the fashion industry is increasingly turning to sustainable leather alternatives. Vegan leather, made from materials like pineapple leaves and recycled plastics, offers a cruelty-free option while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of real leather.
Conclusion:
Leather clothing remains a classic choice that transcends trends. Whether opting for traditional leather or sustainable alternatives, this material continues to captivate fashion enthusiasts worldwide. With proper care, leather garments can last for years, making them a worthwhile addition to any wardrobe.
