I feel dirty. I just talked someone into buying a Macbook Air.

I mean, it's a good fit for them, but I just don't feel good about it.

So having gotten my hands on the books I need for the next semester I decided to go take a look at what's in them.

Now the first is mostly web stuff and the second is just about software design. It starts off with an introduction to HTML5, where they didn't really teach HTML5, more like they taught HTML3/4 but not in a way that was too dangerous. I can tolerate not having my semantic tags tbh. They also used spaces on both sides of the = for some reason.

Then a CSS chapter which was also surprisingly mediocre. They didn't use a dedicated CSS file, but I can live with that, for starters.

Then there were some surprisingly decent JS chapters. Although they did use newlines before their { kinda miffed me. There has also been a few developments since this books release, but tbh this isn't the worst case of outdatedness. (And at least they didn't use jquery when teaching JS)

Then a chapter on SQL which I ignored.

Then a chapter about PHP, and, uhm, when did this book get released? Well the ISBN is 978-0-13-215100-9 and using the power of Google we can reveal it was published in.. 2011..

It really sucks being the senior guy sometimes because it means there's nobody above you that you can bounce questions off of. No mentor. Just random people on the internet (and stack overflow, eww.)

Just cloned a developer git for a certain API and I was going through the application code to get a feel around. I literally said out loud "eww" when I saw the code for the views. Nothing about the pros and cons of the framework, I just think it's hideous. Thoughts from react developers welcome

I was working on this ER model today and making everything look polished and alligned and then I proceed to generate the PNG out of it, but it turns out blurry and disgusting and eww and why the hell can't I change the dpi or ppi even? 96 dpi is not enough ...

I'm getting kicked out during probation period and I'm about to have interview in a new place in the next week or two. During interview, should I be honest tell them or just cover it up? What should I tell them if they are prying?

The problem underlined was communication problem. I'm in charge to maintain old project made by other engineer now an "upper dude". Upper dude and I have different views and at some point he start being unreasonable getting heated up looking down on me provoking me. I took the bait and it doesn't end well. The next day after lunch I'm scheduled with HR and well, fired.

I know he's provoking and I took the bait. At that point I don't know how to improve the situation other than saying yes to him so I just wing it. But if I did say yes, it would slowly cause problem which I'm not willing to handle. Its damn near stupid reason to do it his way and I don't want to do it.

My track record in 2 previous place was great. My concern is what if an HR person be like "Eww this man fail probation. He must be suck". How screwed am I?

I’m having this issue for the online marketplace I’m working on the side. It’s blockchain tech where you can purchase normal goods and services(no, not like Amazon or Fiverr, eww, this one’s more inclined with promoting organic growth for small businesses and freelancers).

I’m stuck with what solution is in the best interest of the user and the business for the long-term.

The dilemma about anonymity, online freedom and privacy is yes, it protects users from predators and attackers, but then, it’s harder for authorities to hunt down people who uses platforms for malicious intent, and also, digital footprint is helpful during litigation as evidence.

You don’t know who to trust.

-There is nothing to differentiate normal users with spammers, scammers, etc.
-There is no accountability for if they break the rules. They can easily delete and create a new account.

Platforms, communities big or small are plagued with these.
There are a lot of people out there who would rather project their insecurities on other people than to seek therapy.

Also, how platforms uses psychology tricks to make platforms addicting, it’s safe to assume that it’s bound to get toxic. Fixation on these platforms, leads to other needs being neglected or people forget to stay present.

Another thing, automated moderation is not that effective as there are still biases in data and human verification is still required. But then, human moderators get exposed to extreme violence, gore, etc that leads to poor mental health. (see Facebook got sued by moderators)

Also, I’ve had a recent experience where some unstable dev was stalking and harassing me. During that turmoil, I’ve found the many loopholes in every platform out there and how crappy their support is. Like they’ll just say, “make your account more secure”, bitch it’s your platform not providing enough security, your blocking feature means nothing coz anyone can still create accounts and message anyone.
It happened like February-August (it ended coz I quit going online and made private all my accounts). UGH I MISS ALL MY FRIENDS THO. FUCK THAT DUDE. He deserves to be in jail TBH

I have a JS module in the main thread, which can only import regular JS files using dynamic import(). This means that imported functions can never be global.
I also have a web worker (which isn't a module because Mozilla) which can only import other JS files using importScripts(). This means that imported functions can only ever be global.
Effectively I can't use the same code on the main thread and in a worker if it relies on objects defined in other files, because references to these will never be the same.

So I know React & Vue, webpack, Node/Express, ES2018, GraphQL, all the "fancy stuff" but I'd also like to get some skills creating/customizing WP templates.
Any recommendations on how to get started?

I started a rice after 3 years of happily using KDE, and apparently everything uses CSS for styling now? I'm not complaining, Polybar offered like 4 options and we just played around with glyph fonts, compared to that this is a joyride.

Also, Eww is brilliant. I've seen people make full fucking UIs and custom notification centers and shit with it. I don't have that much time on my hands, but the option is there. All this with janky Lisp and Sass.

Eww also confirmed a suspicion of mine regarding Orchid; language adoption is a matter of convenience. I can get people to learn my language by offering cool trinkets and useful tools to people who have a predisposition to learning. Yuck is an aptly named language but it's not totally unusable, and because I had to learn it to make my status bar I'm now more inclined to write the corresponding scripts in it as well and I'm actually quite disappointed that I have to use Bash for that.

So we just started being taught javascript. God, this syntax is a nightmare! The jump from ruby has not been a pleasant one, but picking up Jasmine at the same time seems to be helping a little. I can learn this in a week, right?
