When older family members have entire notebooks dedicated to logging obscure, easily-hackable passwords, but then download any app in the world that promises to "make your phone run like new!" (by using 30MB more RAM on God-knows how much malware)
We aren't doing a good job of educating people if anyone we know can fall victim to those kinds of hackneyed procedures and snake-oil apps. It's almost painful to watch, and have to be the bad guy by telling someone dear to me they've been making things worse for themselves because of a seemingly harmless app that they were almost proud of.

A while ago, i decided to finally learn a bit about the web stack (especially django) and create my first web page. The image shows what it currently looks like.

I am actually very happy with the result. It will be my personal little Home automation software, with progressive apps etc. It runs on the pi plattform and can currently switch an IO to a Relais, which in turn switches on a light.

The applications of this are really endless, which is quite cool and leads me to do more stuff at my home with it. So dear devRant: Does anybody know of some nice hackable light bulbs/spots for my home that i can use? Or other cool hackable hardware that could be applied?

We have a web application that will be deployed to the client premises. Part of the agreement is that the full source code will be provided. Now my manager asked me to hide/restrict the usage of a certain feature, and should not be hackable even if we give the full source code. Gosh help me guys, I don't know what I'm doing here.

I think I may be ending my distro hopping here (for a while anyway). Linux Lite looks pretty good, seems stable, isn't bloated af, works good OOTB (finally, a distro other than Ubuntu in which WiFi works just fine), and is decently hackable. I've been using it on and off for a bit, finally replaced Manjaro with it.

I hate when companies use "hackable" as a feature. Pal, if my product was hackable I'd fix it ASAP.

They should just use customisable or something like that.

It's always amazing to fire up a PS2 game and go "Wow... this PS3 game looks great!" an hour later before realizing it's still a PS2. Take Final Fantasy 12, for example: the environments are massive and gorgeous, all the textures look nice, and it's a MASSIVE GAME. Sure, in some areas the environment flavor stuff has really noticeable draw-in and there's no AA and some of the area textures (buildings, floors, the like) are noticeably low-res on close inspection and it's only running at 480i, but when playing, lack of AA and resolution are basically invisible and in most areas the env flavor draw-in is still really far off. It *feels* like a mid-life PS3 game, which the creators deserve mad props for. (I have yet to try upscaling via homebrew, when I get a hackable PS2 i'll see if it looks any better at 720p or 1080i.)

This isn't the only game like this, I have at least 4 that look like PS3 games on-disc, and like 12 more waiting for a hacked PS2, this isn't uncommon. They crammed so much flavor and life into 40MB of total VRAM and it's absolutely fucking nuts.

Is it a good idea to go everything Sony? Like a vaio laptop, an Xperia phone, Sony earphones, maybe psvita for games (I rarely play anyway and it’s hackable for retro stuff)? I generally like their aesthetics.

So... there is a bank. And the website for example is using "https". Alright. But the Login consists your login ID (in the most cases your account number) and a Pin number ( only 5 chars) If i remember pentesting, crunch etc a pin or password with 5 chars (included special characters) is fast hackable or not? Or is it super secure cuz of the "https"?

I can't wait for the release of Snips Air sometime in 2019 so that I can stop using my Google home. It's not even the privacy concern that bugs me, it's the stupid shit like alarm management. To preface, I've had a Google home since late last year and since I got it the alarms have been nothing but trouble. More than half the time when I ask it when my next alarm is, it will respond with "You have an alarm for Friday at 7pm that is going off right now" (At the time of this response it was Tuesday). Then snoozing sometimes just doesn't work, I told it to snooze for 10 minutes, it worked just fine. Then today I made the mistake of asking it to snooze a second time which responded with "Sure, snoozing for 5 minutes", I wake up 45 minutes later, and ask "Hey Google, when's my next alarm?", it responds "You have an alarm today for 7:00 snoozed until 7:15". I have an exam today so luckily I didn't sleep in too late but againg this isn't the first occurence. To prevent this I normally just have a backup alarm on my phone and the one on my phone will wake me up in case something happens. On top of that though I've had rarer cases where it will delete all my alarms and I'll have to go command by command reminding of each alarm. That's just alarms though, I also have it control several IoT devices, and me having to use IFTTT requires the utmost precision in my phrasing otherwise it won't understand ( although this issue is mainly due to how the assistant service trigger on IFTTT is configured ). It still does much better than Siri ( at least my home can set alarms unlike my mac ), I have yet to try Alexa though. Of course my last problem is the hotword, saying "Hey Google" is much better than "Ok Google" but it's still excessive when I have to repeat it for each individual command. This is why I'm so excited for snips air, a set of devices that look pretty great, hackable, and as a bonus much more private that the current options. I realize that I could get a dev kit or set up snips on a pi but the dev kit isn't exactly visually appealing and I doubt I could get something that looks or functions half decent on the pi.
