I was told that my comment on another rant needed to be its own rant. So here it is:
I had a client that runs a tattoo shops website to be updated and more modern. He wanted nothing to do with looking at or approve mock ups or designs so I just did my thing and took care of it. Once I was finished I showed him what I had and said “now I just need some content from you all so I can replace all the placeholder text and images”.
He seemed completely onboard. Took down notes of all the content needed, assigned all of it out to his artists to gather what I needed and provide it to me.
After 6 months, and several emails asking if they ever got that content together I finally get a response:
“LOOK MAN, if you didn’t want to do the site then you shouldn’t have accepted the money. I know you don’t need all these from us to finish up, you’re just stalling! I need the site up now!”
So I’m like “Sure man, I’ll publish it exactly as it stands now.”
An hour later I get a call “who are these people in these pictures? Why do you have our pricing all wrong? Why is everything in French or something (Lorem ipsum)? I just need my money back at this point.”
I explained that he’s not getting his money back because I already did my part, but just because it’s important to me that a client is satisfied (and seemingly what he wants is money) I can waive his hosting fee for the next 3 years.
It’s been a year now. Sites still up in all “French”, wrong pricing, random stock photos. Couple weeks ago he called to apologize for being a dick before.
Still haven’t gotten any content to finish up.
I don’t understand. It’s like these people think if you want to publish a book for instance that you just give the publisher the title you came up with and they’ll fill in the pages with story/info for you.
I’m a web developer, not a content manager.39 -
I've told this one before, but the guy had his platform bought with a promise of partnership. they kept stalling the contract, and he would repeatedly ask when he was gonna get paid his share, and eventually they said "we never promised that". he deleted everything from the team's computers, revoked all access and left. since there was never a contract, they didn't do anything about it7

Is it normal, or is the HR stalling?
I spoke with the HR and they offered me a job and they’re drafting the offer letter.
1 month later.
They’re still drafting the offer letter.
Do I have to worry about the length of responsibilities that I need to do?5 -
Here's what being in a rut is like:
You wake up to the alarm, you waste an hour or two in bed stalling browsing social shit. Finally got out of bed. You have a todo list. You ignore it. Get something to eat. Open Netflix or some brain numbing shit while having breakfast. A few hours go by, you're still watching Netflix and switching to browsing social shit in-between so your brain is numb as much as possible. It's lunch time, you're supposed to cook something, nah, I will order something. Oh, it's bedtime, let's make a todo list and go to bed and start over tomorrow...5 -
Since Parse is shutting down by January 27th, I need to migrate my startup application's entire database to a new platform. What a pain. I'm thinking of doing Firebase...11

Genuine question: Whenever an OS encounters a problem and I 'send' the report to help fix the problem, does anybody read that? Or windows just stalling?2

Decided to fresh install ubuntu due to unexpected freezes, now I am stalling the Budgie flavor because J reaally wanted Solus.. but they still lack support for a lot of packages.

Maybe the twitter developers getting laid off should join spotify in their quest for a simple shuffle algorithm that they failed to develop or maybe just are not allowed to ship due to corrupt company politics?
As Spotify's algorithm sucks from a listener's perspective (major music industry might like it though), I have to rely 100% on curated playlists, and without shuffle, I have to listen in the exact order that they were made. Why not? We did the same when we put actual records on a record player. Who needs shuffle? Who needs streaming anyway? I'm gonna get a pair of turntables or just listen to MP3 files again!
There is a "new idea" thread in the spotify community forum started in 2020 (following up on an earlier 2012 suggestion), a feature request for the "option to have a true shuffle" that already has 70+ pages, tagged as trending in 2021 with the friendly stalling message:
As this idea has gathered a fair amount of votes, we've discussed it with the relevant team once again. We actually want to take a closer look at what you're experiencing and get some of you in touch with our devs.
Good luck everyone. If I still use Spotify in 2023, I can probably repost the very same status again one year later when the app will still lack a simple shuffle option, no?

I am currently a backend developer at a company in the financial services industry. In January I approached the owners that I wanted to discuss a pay increase due to new skills I have o trained that they want. At first they were willing to meet the next day but the next morning wanted me to wait until review time. I told I was willing to wait as long as they would give me a date and time. Due to last review season being blind sided and having to have my review 10 minutes after getting back from vacation without warning. It hey did they didn’t have the times schedule yet so I waited till last week to request the time again since it’s one month away and they basically said we aren’t giving you a time we will call you when we get your time. I think they are stalling because I’m highly leveraged now and that don’t want to face the reality that I am due for a pay raise. What do you guys think4

I've complained about this friend who I help out with a side project before and I don't know how to deal with this anymore.
He decided he wants to send out a free weekly newsletter with content that takes a lot of time to create.
He got burned out from all of the work. I tell him to only do it bi-weekly. Still doesn't listen.
He doesn't work, whereas I have a full-time job, his mom feeds him and does everything for him.
Someone on the newsletter said they didn't receive a newsletter they signed up for and now he's dumping that on me. I refuse to deal with it. I have paid a lot of my own money for the website he uses to post stuff. He knows more about the newsletter software than I do. The least he can do is deal with the people on Discord and the email newsletter issues, because I honestly don't have time. He has a solar generator at his house, so he can work through the power outages we have on a daily basis, I do not.
He keeps wanting to give out free shit to people, whereas I told him this side project needs to start making money to make it worthwhile for me. He's always making excuses that he doesn't have money, blah blah blah. We designed a cool magazine and it's pretty much finished, but now he's stalling with things he needs to do to get it published on Drivethrurpg.
He just hassled me again to check this gmail I made for him to use for the newsletter and this YouTube he wants to start. I told him, no I haven't had time.
The other day I went to his house to hang out, he gave me a taste of his home made ginger beer and I said it's great, but then he went and drank a pint of it without even offering me some, right in my face. His mom came out and asked me an hour later if I wanted tea. These people are weird. Maybe I am weird.
He also doesn't use the project management software I showed him how to use, so I don't know what's going on. And I told him this a couple of times.
Think I should tell this dude that I don't have time to work on this stuff? And how do I do it politely, yet sternly?5 -
There was a DB error which made my student card invalid which means that when my JetBrains license expired I couldn't extend it. Now I can't use it at all so all of my projects are stalling :/1

Just when we’re about to launch a beta, a junior dev started fixing and stalling on an issue he wasn’t sent to fix.

Not *drunk* coding per se, but there have been a couple evenings where a bottle of red has provided just the right push to finally get something done that I’d been stalling on...

That feeling when you don't feel like working but you can still hear bills creeping up on you and you need the money.

How do I go about taking up a job that I might only want to do temporarily but the company X may have a long(er) term expectation? I can't wrap my head around it.
Also the other company Y in which I am much more interested, but still didn't reply to my email after 2 days. So I am stalling with X before taking it up...
I hate this timing tactics. I feel like I am playing a strategy game.3 -
I suck at front. I lack some front-related stuff in my project and I seriously struggle with all that css.
I'd love if I could find someone to do those small pieces for me, but I really don't feel like paying someone a whole month salary for a two days job.
How can I find devs who could write parts of the code I lack skills to write myself? Do freelancers take on tasks that small? How do I know they won't be stalling the task just to get more €s out of me?
How can I find someone to help me out? How do you guys do that?2
