Been working on making my Linux installation pretty for the past few days – already posted on r/unixporn but I figured there might be a few people on here who would appreciate it. Link to the post: https://reddit.com/r/unixporn/...13

Arch Rice Update
Distro: Arch Linux
WM: i3-gaps
Browser: qutebrowser with my GitHub open
Pomodoros: pomo
top: gotop
Vim: Open with Python code, taglist, powerline and gruvbox color scheme
Terminal: st, Luke Smith's build
Neomutt, configured by mutt-wizard
Vifm, with ripped CDs and projects open
Bar: bumblebee-status
Background: https://github.com/skuzzymiglet/...
Qutebrowser means I can finally abandon my mouse/trackpad (except for pesky video ediors and music notation software). Nice feeling not having to drag my fingers over a piece of metal. Try it out!

1TB HDD
Asus
also worth mentioning that gnome plays well with toutchscreen 😎
this puppy is gonna serve me well8 -
It was so frustrating setting this one up. Lots of shouting in front of my monitors. But I think now I'm slowly getting somewhere with my first i3 setup.
Now to see if it will actually improve my workflow somehow.8 -
Trying out i3 (gaps) now. Time to mess my brain up with all these keybindings from i3, vim, termite, tmux, uzbl...
Could have tried qutebrowser too but sadly it doesn't work in my raspberry pi.10 -
Got ncmpcpp/cava/mpd working! (if you're wondering why it's ubuntu, just read a few rants ago :'^> ) and loving it. i gues i'll just open this up for people to post rices or any sort of pretty config. i still shill arch, just not if you like steam and have an nvidia graphics card! i'm in school and i don't really have time to sit down and learn what i broke and how to fix it, even if its a minor issue.8

TL:DR; DON'T GET INTEL+NVIDIA LAPTOP FOR LINUX.
In the same vain as Linus Torvalds: "Fuck Nvidia, and Intel".
Trying to get intel+nvidia laptop prime w/e working is a living hell.
I'm running Manjaro(arch for lazy people) with I3-gaps(larbs).
So Manjaro provides this handy script/program mhwd that supposedly would enable the non free blob Nvidia driver except it doesn't work cause it uses bumblebee and it's saying it can't find the clearly installed fucking Nvidia driver.
Bashing my head against a wall is more fucking productive then getting my cum stain of laptop to work properly.
"Just disable the intel graphics in bios"
I would except my old shitty Acer bios piece of fucking crap can't even after booting Windows for usb hdd and flashing BIOS.
GUESS WHAT LINUX COMMUNITY THAT'S WHY NOBODY WANTS TO FREAKING USE LINUX FOR GAMING.
I fucking love Linux but I gave up gaming for it.
I'll start joining red team from now on instead of trying to use your broken shit.19 -
I just installed voidlinux and daaaamn this shit is good. Its so lightweight and fast :3
And I don't even need the AUR to install i3-gaps. Its in the fucking main repo.
Now I'll just shut the fuck up and continue experimenting3 -

Hi,
I want to install linux besides windows on my new computer (i7-8700k, gtx 1080). I use debian with i3 on my laptop for work and want to have a similar development environment at home. Does anyone have an adive to choose between ElementaryOS and Arch, or just stick with Debian. i3-gaps will be the wm, I just can't use another one ;)
Does one distro has better support for Nvidia cards in fact I would like to try CUDA.
I do not have other requirements; mostly webdev with python in the backend, and a little c++ game with SDL. This should not be a problem in a new distro.
Thanks for some advices and pro/cons11 -
Played around with the window manager i3-gaps after seeing Luke Smith on Youtube. Seems really productive but I'm so used to minimizing windows.
What is the usual way in i3 to deal with Windows you keep open in the Background? Do you just move them to a different workspace?4 -
had a blast helping a pal install arch (and setting up the necessities, like i3-gaps, neofetch, wal, etc...). tonight was awesome.
PS: i can recite any basic arch install by memory now, EFI or BIOS, and i'm slightly better at navigating vim now5 -
Entered into Arch club recently.
I've installed i3-gaps on my arch but looks very bad.
What I am missing?🤔9 -
Things that wasted my time this week:
bash in my .cshrc
Using the wrong application to open waves.
Logs after an if(a thing) return;
Updating i3-gaps and using my config and it locking up.
A testing machine having the wrong kernel as default.
Not a bad week :)
