I recently met a young fella (14yo) playing League of Legends. He asked:
- What do you do for a living?
- I'm a programmer, do you know anything about programming?
- I don't, actually.
Apparently he was playing from a LAN Gaming center 'cause he didn't have a computer at home (his computer had broken and these Lan centers are pretty affordable).
I figured I could explain to him what was it and what super powers you could get from it. Turns out I recommended a JS course in codecademy and now he goes to the LAN center every day to study programming (he got really into it!).
Now he always pings me with questions about JS and apparently he's learning a ton! He had almost no English skills too (we're Brazilian), and because most of the material in the internet is in English he found himself some free English courses and he's now taking them!
Knowledge is free on the internet and I guess he's just realized that.
Not exactly a rant guys, just figured it was a nice story to tell :)

I made a fan page for my favourite League of Legends Champion: Camille. Also, a kind of newsletter because I have no life.22

Boss calls: "Can you give me more bandwith?"
Me: "I can, but the other coworkers will have issues"
Boss: "Doesn't matter, and please, lift up the proxy too"
Me: "I am sorry, but I can't, that could compromise our security"
Boss: "I am giving you an order..."
Me: "Ok then..."
Me: *proceeds to give boss more bandwith and lifts up proxy (all is lost now)*
I go to see what is the boss doing with the bandwith...he was downloading League of Legends in his personal notebook...
TL;DR: Boss asks to put company at risk for the sake of a game...2 -
Screw League of Legends incompetent devs. They implemented a anti cheat solution that prohibits linux (wine) and VM users to play the game. This is really stupid. Better learn to play dota now...14

My favorite game just released a 3D map of their universe.
That's fucking awesome! How much work this had to be.... OwO10 -
Being productive on personal projects instead of playing league of legends on the weekends. (student)2

Not a Story about an actual hack, but a story about people being dumb and using hacks as an excuse.
A few weeks ago my little cousin would reach out to me because "his Account was hacked...". Supposedly his League of Legends account was hacked by a guy of his own age (14) and this guy was boasting about it.
So i asked the usual things: "Has the email account been hijacked? Did anyone know about details to your acvount access? Etc..."
Turns out that one if his "friends" knew his password and username, but suppsedly erased these Informationen. And that was the part i didn't buy.
This was the point where he lost. Just because i am a programmer does not mean i can retrieve an account he lost because of a dumb mistake that could have easily been avoided. And that guy who was boasting about hacking LoL Account was coincidentally freinds with the friend who had the user credentials and password.
Moral of the Story? The biggest security weakness is almost always the user or a human in between... -
My biggest distraction: Working at home. I have a student job at my university and work at home. Just visit my boss every other week to show him the results.
So I always thought it's amazing to work at home. No need to travel to the work space, I can arrange my time as I like, noone's constantly watching what I'm doing.
Sounds great, right? Yeah it is, but is it productive? Lol no.
I'm getting distracted by everything. New mail about some kickstarter stuff, one hour wasted. "Can you help me with that computer problem?" Yeah sure. "Wanna play some League of Legends with us?" Sure, but just one round, I need to work. Ten rounds later I wrote like three lines of code.
I could ignore all that stuff, but I'm at home and can do whatever I want, right?
Results in me working through all night, because then there's noone to distract me.2 -
The coolest thing I have worked on is a League of Legends sandbox. A reverse engineering of the official server, so we could do whatever we want.

I have been really trying to move away from windows but videogames won't let me. I would instantly fully drop windows if there was a good way of being able to run league of legends on my arch installation.6

I was humiliated because I participated in the development of a site to calculate the time in LoL and I dared to do it in pure html/css....
Let me explain: since I was a teenager, I have loved creating sites around the League of Legends community and my portfolio is therefore full of similar projects. I live in a city that is not necessarily tech and so it was complicated for me to find a coding school but I ended up getting there and being accepted. From the 3rd day, my classmates questioned me and asked to see some of my projects. Proudly, I show them https://wastedtime.io which is a project in which I voluntarily participated by making html/css allowing them to recover the time spent on LoL. When suddenly one of them asks me the question “how did I do the front”. So I told him I did pure HTML/CSS. So he looked at me with a haughty look, making fun of me for not using React, the strangest thing was that the others were following me and looking at me like I was a dinosaur. What's wrong with people? I had already done this with PHP on the Internet and now in real life I also get mocked with HTML and CSS without using libraries. I learned my lesson with PHP, but now I have to face the same ridicule with pure HTML/css because I'm "not good enough with my time"? Aren't the reactions a little disproportionate? I mean, do I have a few more years left without being singled out and called a dinosaur like php coders or is it already over for those who do pure HTML/css ?9 -
Which PC / Mobile Games you guys are playing?
I was playing League of Legends till last month but it's too TOXIC and Riot doesn't care.
So I stopped playing it from last month and started 100daysofcode challenge but as a gamer I can't survive without good game (lame).
Now I think I lost my habit of playing game like drug addict( but Still when I am bored with coding I prefer to watch YouTube).
What you guys do when you are bored with coding??15 -
We've all done this at some point: If there's a timer, but you don't want it to run out, just set it to a big number.1

Everyday strugle.
Go to work, go home all motivated like: oh once I'm home I can do this and that to finish my work, and it's fun and interesting. Or I vould study, or clean up, I'm totally gonna do something usefull!
*once home*
Ohhhh look league of legends! Or bed! I'm too exhausted to do anything usefull. Better chill.
...
Anyone else?
Anyone got advice for how to combat this? T_T5 -
Wanted to add some personality to my desk at the office and decided to bring a Jinx (from League of Legends) figurine for it.
When I arrive and open my bag I get really sad due to finding said figurine with its head decapitated during transport. 😭😭😭5 -
at the very beginning of League of Legends (I was freshman in high school) my friend and I wanted to create a team. we needed a website for it and I learned the basics. I stop playing but I never stop programming1

Dear League of Legends,
WHY IS YOUR MAC CLIENT STILL IN BETA SINCE I STARTED PLAYING 2 or 3 YEARS AGO?
AND WHY DO I NEED TO TRY 20 TIMES TO OPEN IT AND IF I START A GAME IT CRASHES AFTER 5MIN IN-GAME5 -
My hard drive died last night.
Sounds like an excuse to try Linux again as my main computer (stopped in the past due to needs for excel and "league of legends".
Anyone else here use excel frequently and have been happy with a Linux alternative ?12 -
Not a rant, anyone else play League of Legends? Just started back up and it would be cool to game with some fellow ranters. Gaming releases my anger lol4

I'm in several FB groups for selling/buying IT material, and from time to time I see someone trying to scam other people by selling those "GAMING PC L33TL4z0rz" with 4GB RAM and an GeForce 700GT GPU, attaching some LED action photos and League of Legends / CS:GO prints.
One of the most recent posts, was a guy who was trying to sell his (really old) macBook.
He said it was great for gaming, had an i5 CPU and 4GB of RAM.
Upon leaving my comment on the pieace of shit he was selling and that 4GB was barely enough to run Chrome, I got a shitload of replies saying that 4GB on a mac are not the same as 4GB on windows... So I immediately forgot everything I knew about computers and just left most (if not all) sales groups because I felt that a tumor of sorts started growing in me, a tumor of rage and awe in human stupidity.
Slowly, I started feeling superior to other people, and would immediately regard them as idiot simpletons. And I don't want to be THAT guy, who rolls his eyes every time someone asks a stupid question...
Now, if any of you could please inform me... What is the RAM conversion rate between a windows and a mac ?5 -
we have 4 options when come to Windows 10 development
+ Windows 32 API
+ WPF
+ WinForm
+ UWP
the best performance would be Windows 32 API but really painful when maintaining
but game like League Of Legends have complex logic still accomplish so I think they also create their own OOP pattern7 -
Nokia.
Because in the past: Nokia 3210.
Nowadays: do they even sell mobiles anymore? :(
Riot Games.
Season 1-3 cool. Season 4-today: maaaaan if they try to get even more fancy and ridiculous I finally gonna uninstall league of legends after 7 years.6 -
Finally did it!
Replaced my desktop pc (which I use for gaming) which had Windows 7 with Arch Linux! It was not hard because I already use it on my laptop.
OK it was a bit struggle with nvidia and cinnamon due to missing libraries I had to install which I don't know before.
But it is possible to play games on Arch?
Yes definitely!
CS:GO - works (native, steam)
League of Legends - works (wine)
World of Tanks - works (wine)
All I need is working (:1 -
Around 24 hours. Over 48 hours!
It's was in high school, I had a job in grocery store stucking up shelfs. I had two shifts that weekend. it's was Saturday I had just finished working a 13 hours shifts and my mates was pressuring me to join for video games and drinking.
Ofc I went there, got super drunk (beer pong and drinking league of legends).
It got really late(around 4am) and I knew I was supposed to be at work at 6 pm, so I call dad told him to drive me home and then to work! He did as awesome as he is!
Had to work 12 hours, I did 11 hours then my boss send me home.I was basically til at bit drink then I arrived I work for 4 hours I had the worst hangover the last 7 hours of work.
When I came we had guest and I had to be present!
Poor life decision, no regrets! -
You ever try looking something up to solve a problem
And then, out of thin air,
A FUCKING LEAGUE OF LEGENDS AD IN MY FACE.
No matter how many ads I'm shown, I fucking don't want to play League.1 -
Not really a Rant but:
My Productivity Method:
1. Nootropics (Nootrobox Daily, Sprint for 6+ hour work/focus periods)
2. Ketogenic Diet (Ridiculous Energy, Amazing Food Choices, No Crashing, No Cheating!)
3. Moderate Exercise
4. Get Lit (Partying) once a month at least, hard liquors.
5. Nicotine (Vaping 6mg) while coding.
6. Caffeine (Bulletproof Coffee)
7. League of Legends breaks.
8. Weekly Cigar Social with other professionals.
Balance Vice with Virtue is a great combination for getting stuff done.

🎮 Why do so many videogames have bad anti-aliasing implementation? It is so easy to implement: just draw on a larger texture, then scale back to the target resolution
I've been playing Forza Horizon 4 and League of Legends lately and both games have terrible anti-aliasing; I can see pixels and cringy blur around the edges. Elden Ring is another game where anti-aliasing sucks
I understand that not every user can benefit from anti-aliasing because you need powerful graphics card; but still. Feels bad10 -
first of all sorry for my english, its not my first language
hello, i am an aspiring programmer and im honestly just a really big newbie, im learning vb dot net and ran into an issue that i had. So basically i was using the WinActivate function from autoit with FindWindow(using the title of the window) to supply WinActivate the hwnd. Heres my issue: When the window is NOT minimized so selected or behind other windows the WinActivate function works completely fine, but when the window is minimized it doesnt work, i have read on the documentation that neither function cares wether the window is minimized or not so i came to the conclusion that it might have a different title when minimized? The window is the league of legends client by the way. What can i do to solve/debug this issue, perhaps spy++ could help me? how would i use this, i could upload the visual studio project if someone wants to help me out in that way. WinActivate((FindWindow(Nothing, "League of Legends"))) this is what it looks like.12
