So after dealing with hell lot of anxieties, I tried meditating. I did it for 2 weeks for now and can see difference. I have started avoiding the unhelpful thoughts. I am not fogging my mind each day with negative thoughts now.
Although I cannot say if I can still face the situations well when I'll get nervous but I know that I will try stopping my unhelpful thoughts.2 -
Finally made some progress with the project that has been kicking my ass the past three or so months.
Also finally free from the migraines I've been having the last couple of days. First time in a week I'm not either nauseous, in pain or both.
Now I'm going to make grilled cheese sandwiches and watch some true crime youtube. -
I'd like to extend my heartfelt fuck-you to the following persons:
- The recruiter who told me that at my age I wouldn't find a job anymore: FUCK YOU, I'll send you my 55 birthday's cake candles, you can put all of them in your ass, with light on.
- The Project Manager that after 5 rounds of interviews and technical tests told me I didn't have enough experience for his project: be fucked in an Agile way by all member of your team, standing up, every morning for 15 minutes, and every 2 weeks by all stakeholders.
- The unemployment officer who advised me to take low level jobs, cut my expenses and salary expectations: you can cut your cock and suck it, so you'll stop telling bullshit to people
- The moron that gave me a monster technical assignment on Big Data, which I delivered, and didn't gave me any feedback: shove all your BIG DATA in your ass and open it to external integrations
- the architect who told me I should open my horizons, because I didn't like React: put a reactive mix in your ass and close it, so your shit will explode in your mouth
- the countless recruiter who used my cv to increase their db, offering fake jobs: print all your db on paper and stuff your ass with that, you'll see how big you will be
To all of them, really really fuck you.12 -
Why do we still speak in direct DNS?
I don't know about you, but I have observed so many DNS mishaps in my day, and also have observed that developers and non-devs consistently fail to have a succinct mental model of how to set DNS properly for a website.
There are lots of services that make setting DNS easier than ever, but I'm kind of surprised so many people still have to think directly in terms of CNAMES, APEX DOMAINS, and all the direct domain knowledge of DNS.
Can't we have a higher level abstraction that compiles to DNS with more safety guards? Sure, let me dip into DNS when I need to, but why are DNS settings tables still such a normal thing?
I write Ruby code so I don't have to write C code. I'm sure there are attempts in DNS abstraction, but the fact that I haven't come across them means they are probably still too leaky or just not mainstream.
Thoughts on the matter?4 -
I hold most devs in high regard, here in devRant too. Please tell me none of you feels this way:

Get a fucking job if you wanna get paid. Jesus...17 -
Ok. FUCK THIS SHIT.
It's been like literally 15 minutes and I've been struggling, trying to *do* something at all.
I don't know why or how my experience with firefox has just plumetted through the floor. I partially blamed my slow ass HDD but guess what, chrome ran beautifully last I checked.2 -
Maybe I don't even want to understand what "programming" means. Although I keep visiting StackOverflow almost daily to find useful advice on topics that do matter to me, when I post a question myself, they mostly get deleted for being "offtopic", not real "programming" questions, prone to attract "opinionated answers" or too much concerned about usability in real life? 🤔8

Dear Microsoft,
Thanks for not completely fucking up Github. At least you didn't integrate Office365, allow only Azure deployments, or force downloading repos through OneDrive or something.
But like most developers, I don't deal well with changes to familiar interfaces.
So please.... STOP FUCKING TWEAKING THE BUTTON PLACEMENTS AND TEXTS ALL OVER THE WEBSITE.
(or at least send me a bottle of cognac and a box of chocolates before every UI experiment, so I can deal with it emotionally. I'm a very sensitive boy, you know).21 -
Bought flowers and right now they're right next to the laptop. The laptop is looking so pretty!
My desk is also looking scenic and shit, that if flowers were cheaper I'd make a flower crown for every robot I work with. Lol.4 -
Not sure if it is the difference in the state of my mind or if it is the gradual reopening of the markets, but it's weird to me how a couple of months ago when I was looking for a job change, I could hardly find any good opportunities; but now that I am well entrenched in the current job I have, I keep getting random leads for decent job opportunities for the very profile I work in.1

Manager: hey, I've been thinking about the new interface changes, Iand I've come to the conclusion that we really need to make it... (wait for it...) very intuitive
Wooowww

I had a job interview today and it went well, gonna hear back roughly around a week. Hopefully I did good enough.9

This hurt me so deep. Feel hopeless. He want it fast , 2 Apps for iOS and Android ( that means 2 for Android and 2 for iOS) in this short time with overly complex requirements (as in the documents).
Omg. ...71 -
I asked the designer if he had ideas on the hover or active states of the buttons. He came with a pretty flashy codepen: “Maybe something like this?”
I tried making the thing myself. It was pretty complicated since it had a background/foreground etc so i tried a couple of things with :before :after but to no avail. I gave up and decided to give it another try the next morning.
Next morning i started to copy paste the existing code from the codepen.
Quickly i discovered what a pile of shit was send to me. This button had twice as much lines then needed and above all; it wasn’t scalable at all.
I reworked the code removed everything i didn’t need and now have decent animating button. Which is flashing the eyes out of the visitors. But hey, it’s flashy!!2 -
It's 20-fucking-21 and I'm still asked to provide paper copies of my thesis. 😐
It's snowing outside and I don't have a usb to copy my shit and bring it to the "copy and bind" guy, so this is gonna be fun. (said no one, ever)
Oh, also, offices are closed so handover is going to be even more fun. 😐16 -
I’ve been trying to work smarter and not harder.
I’ve been applying to internships with my cover letter and resume.
My cover letter is pretty generic so I only need to change the company name and company position for each application.
Used to do this all manually through google docs but I just wrote a cool script
Using bash, I ask for the company name and position, and then I just generate and compile a latex version of my cover letter with those parameters updated.
Then, the pdf of my cover letter is combined with the pdf of my resume.
After that, the pdf of my application goes into a directory in my career folder so I have a record of it.
This has saved me so much time lol I’m happy I took the time to figure this out2 -
I was just thinking about disabling something, already forgot what it was that I was gonna disable though.. doesn't matter. And I realized that if I wanted to play my "disabled card", I could totally get Americans to ban that word entirely.
Cancel culture you say? Those cancel buttons are offensive to me! Get them out of my face reeee!
Command line? You're telling this thing what to do?! sudo make sandwich, so sexist!!!
Police reforms are so overrated. Let's ban words like master/slave or blacklist/whitelist or blind playthrough instead. And put our knees on another black person, shoot another in their sleep, and let said police officers get away with it. Yee haw!
And storm the Capitol apparently. It's been a while now but Europe looked across the pond in complete and utter surprise and disbelief. You call yourselves a free nation America?
Oh yeah, and ban words globally, in globally used software. I must've forgotten.. yeah, the world is nothing but America, oil fields, parking space and third world shitholes. Good thinking there.
With enough effort you can make anything offensive. And it goes to show that offense is not given but taken.
Fun fact btw: the United States is ranked 121 in the Global Peace Index (http://statisticstimes.com/ranking/...) - and that doesn't even include the Capitol's insurrection yet. Belgium is ranked 17. Tell me more about how I'm racist Americans. Tell me about it when your president literally called Belgium a hellhole over the amount of immigrants he saw in Brussels.8 -
Fuck Governments and schools for not teaching kids basic financial knowledge or how to identify scams and how to determine if the returns that they got told are realistic.
The amount of people that call me and ask me if they got scamed or how to invest in something because I am "that guy" that they know that's into Computers honestly scares me. I think many countries have a huge problem with basic financial illiteracy. People call me all the time and ask me about investing in crypto currencies etc. or ask me if they were scamed and I often have to tell them that they indeed got scamed. Does that only happen to me or does it also happen to you guys?4 -

LARAVEL MEME OF THE DAY
If 60> requests are sent in a short amount of time (and you have Laravel Passport installed) you will not receive an IlluminateResponse instance anymore; you will instead receive a slightly different SymfonyResponse.
Why? For the glory of Satan, of course.
If your code doesn't account for that undocumented garbage, your code will start throwing middle fingers here and there.
Tell me again the productivity joke with Laravel, I've just lost an hour and a half 'cause unit tests were failing and I had no idea why.6
