As an Indian, I agree with him. In this day and age, where education is so easy to come by, We live in a country where from the beginning we're told that education is about getting marks and writing stuff down 10 times. We live in a country where we're asked to cram up answers to questions which start with "what are your thoughts on..". How can we expect to be creative?
Can marks be a metric for good candidate in a country where the thought is, "first complete your engineering with good marks, then think what you wanna do in life".
Should academic excellence really be about the amount of shit a guy could cram up?

Sure it's easier to filter out people on the basis of marks in a country with 1.3 billion people, but is it justified?
Can we justify "success" as a good job for a guy who's life's only achievement has been getting into a good engineering college?
Can we really consider a guy successful, if his only "effort" has been reading and rereading books twice, thrice, a million times. Is this person, who has literally crammed his way into life, and has no practical experience, really successful?

This is the very reason Woz giving such a statement is justified. As long as we as a country gives up the stupid thought that patriotism is all about abusing the guy who says something negative about the country, and we actually start taking an action and change our thoughts on education, we won't succeed.

Hey guys... Broke up with my girlfriend that I spend 1.3 years with her and all I think about is "I have to come back to work in order to forget this sadness and depression " ... Sometimes I feel that programming is making me feel like a robot with cold to no feelings

So I had to write a program for university... It got graded.. I got 1.7 (1 being best).
Now you might say that's good. But I wrote a whole fucking final fantasy like game with engine and the program I helped with of a friend of mine is just a little roulette game without animation.. and he got a 1.3.

TIL: Don't give your best. Just give no fuck and push something out quickly.

Any recommendations for introductory books on electrical engineering? I'm looking for something that goes into detail on the basics: tension, current, resistance, inductance, capacitance, etc. I have very little knowledge on the subject (I know what the basic components do and that's it) and I found myself struggling a bit with the most basic concept: voltage.

I grabbed my multimeter, a few resistors and a battery and played around a bit. For some reason it doesn't really "click" why on a 5v circuit with 3 2.2k ohm resistors (I think) the voltage around each resistor was like ~1.3 volts or something, while on a circuit with 2 resistors the voltage accross each one was ~2.3 something volts (I don't remember exact values). Like, I know that voltage is a difference in potential, but I still don't get it and idk what I'm missing. Why is the difference in potential accross a resistor different if the circuit has 2 resistors in series instead of 3. It kinda makes sense in my head but at the same time it doesn't.

In short, I want to know the "why" stuff works the way it does, not just the "how".

Also, if the book covers common practices, components, and circuits that'd be very helpful. I want to learn how to build well-designed, reliable and safe circuits.

Not sure if Google is surprised this happens or they really never face issues using Gradle

Took 4 minutes to compile a basic flutter app. But it takes 1.3 minutes to compile a native app. So far liking flutter, still hating React Native tho

Best way to approach updatable custom cms?
I currently have to work with an old cakePHP 1.3 cms tailored for a specific customers. The guy I'm doing development for wants to upgrade and move to another framework and create a new cms. Because this is such a niche specific cms we want to add ability to update the cms from the admin panel, over the air - there are 70-100+ websites at all times up and running and updating them manually is not viable. And probably have modules that would be separate but easily installable from the admin panel. Whats the best approach here? Any good examples already working in the wild? First thing that popped into my mind is opencart with the ocmod for custom mods, the problem being updates for it.

I have been using CakePHP 1.3 and 2.x fore some years. I built two custom platforms on them that we used for almost every project at work, and also some of my freelance ones.

We've built all kind of stuff, from basic CMS to large scale CRM/ERP systems, and it held it's own!

But now I wanna build another one! :D

I wanna build a platform on CakePHP 3.x fore sume time at work, but the constant flow of projects leaves little time for this.

And I am not talking about the shitty stuff like the sorry attempts you can find oh GitHub right now, that I never even managed to use once for a real project (I really tired!), I am talking about a real platform, for real world projects, with a real world interface, and real world functionallity, for real world use cases!

I was thinking to start an open source project, but I never managed one so I have some concerns...

Like it will not get any contributors and I will eventually do it on my own anyway, or like it WILL get traction and I will not be able to manage the project, or the community.

I am the head of the dev dept at work, but open source seems like a whole new ball game for me...

Anyway, what do you people think? Would you work on something like that? Would you use it? Should I create a GitHub project and add a collab? Or is it doomed already?

Hello, I am stuck working on a project built on top of CakePHP 1.3 and I have some custom helpers, one of them named Order; for my views, I need to set a variable $order to contain the order data.

My problem is that if I set the variable in the controller ( $this->set(compact('order)); ) it overwrites the helper instance ( $this->Order ), and if I set it with a different name in the controller (say $_order) and reassign it in the view file ( $order = $_order ), the helprr instance ( $this->Order ) is also overwritten...

I really need to have the namings as described in order for my code to be clean and logical.
