Last year I built the platform 'Tindex'. It was an index of Tinder profiles so people could search by name, gender and age.
We scraped the Tinder profiles through a Tinder API which was discontinued not long ago, but weird enough it was still intact and one of my friends who was also working on it found out how to get api keys (somewhere in network tab at Tinder Online).
Except name, gender and age we also got 3 distances so we could calculate each users' location, then save the location each 15 minutes and put the coordinates on a map so users of Tindex could easily see the current location of a specific Tinder user.
Fun note: we also got the Spotify data of each Tinder user, so we could actually know on which time and which location a user listened to a specific Spotify track.
Later on we started building it out: A chatbot which connected to Tinder so Tindex users could automatically send a pick up line to their new matches (Was kinda buggy, sometimes it sent 3 pick up lines at ones).
Right when we started building a revenue model we stopped the entire project because a friend of ours had found out that we basically violated almost all terms.
Was a great project, learned a lot from it and actually had me thinking twice or more about online dating platforms.
Below an image of the user overview design I prototyped. The data is mock-data.51 -
- Girl: I don't understand how some people can be so foolish and decide to study computer science.
- Me: Hm, true. So what did you study?
- Girl: Tourism and sports science. And you?
- Me: Nothing. I'm a truck driver.18 -
Me: *receives SMS from ex girlfriend*
GF: "I'm horny, whatcha doing now?"
Me: "Not much, just working on the update system to this tool which will be used with mod. Can't talk right now"
This was the fastest "murdering of the mood" I ever done.11 -
My wife is a (semi-)pro gamer, so the only way it affects our dating is that I have to help her write LUA addons, performance analytics and Twitch bots.18
-
It's not a date but ok..
my classmate (that time) was not that good in programming in Java. So she asked me about some topics. After I explained them to her we had some talk, and we liked each other.
Well, today we're waiting for our daughter ..12 -
Be me

Been married for 14 years to a non-technical spouse. Biggest issue has been not able to properly vent about technical issues to my best friend. She still listens when I do even though I'm sure she doesn't understand. But, I love that she tries anyway.3
-
Didn't really have one to speak of. The first time a girl showed any interest in me, I asked her to marry me, and she said yes. That was 34 years ago, and we're still good.😁7

Code works.
I'm happy.
Maybe she's happy.
Code doesn't work.
I look frustrated.
She's definitely not happy.3 -

Happy Valentine's Day everyone 😉11 -
I was going out with this really nice girl, funny, independent, with a knack for entrepreneurship... and eventually she found out I was a developer and she needed a freelancer... and that's how she became a client instead of a date.10
-
I haven't attempted any dating yet but I have attempted staying in touch with girls and this has failed big time. Not due to coding but due to me not using social media (especially Facebook and Instagram) and also - this is a huge deal in the Netherlands - not using WhatsApp.
The second girls hear/notice/discover that when exchanging information, it's shut off right away. (Or, this has been my experience)
On the bright side, I might find a very good match this way and I'm at least holding on to my principles/values :)26 -
A girl i liked sucked at programming, used to fail our first programming course. I had a crush on her so i offered to tutor her for free and did a couple of her assignments when she was too overloaded with assignments. - Plan worked, she saw how nice and reliable i am so she did and helped me with some papers and eventually shes my girlfriend now.7
-
Am I the only one to notice the coincidence that wk143 is about dating.
When I in school, we use to write 143 in place of "I love you" (letter count) within a heart with a aroow going across the heart.
"we" excludes me.5 -
The girl I'm talking to right now (not officially dating), I met because I knew web dev. I've mentioned the story before a couple times, so I'll just give a TL;DR
She has a graphic design class with my friend. The class was doing basic web development and had no idea what they were doing. I decided to go in there to help out some. Started talking to her, now everything's fun.
Here's a picture of us from Friday (you can only see my face tho, not hers). We were just being cute, as ya do.12 -
An ex of mine broke up with me when I changed my career path to programming. She said she wouldn't want to date with a programmer, I said 'ok bye'.
Guess who has a better career and dated with smarter, nicer, more funny and more attractive people since then 😎7 -
Let's see...
It made me anti social. It got me thinking in a very logical way, I can't connect with people.
I'd spend a lot of time (and still do) coding that I didn't make many friends and made me have social anxiety.
Nobody respects what I do or even understand it.
The one girl I would've happily fucking died in the most brutal way for with a smile on my face, wasn't interested at all... I was a geek to her and my lifestyle wasn't compatible with hers.... I wasn't good enough...
I am very self aware of my shortcomings and working towards that... But generally, I'm too fucking late to dating and all that.
Programming put me in a disadvantage in dating and social life.11 -

I once wrote a room planning application on unity, to allow people in my company to book meetings using tablets attached to the room doors.
Turns out the c# Datetime object unity uses was highly localized and therefore had a different formats on each different device.
I saved those timestamps into a SQL database and eventually all devices crashed due to having some Datetime format they could not parse.
Had to fully bypass the datetime and reinvent it essentially and had to reset the database.
I think it's needless to say I'm not particularly good in dating.4 -
Friend (girl) of my friends realized that I’m a programmer and dated me. She wanted me to hack her ex boyfriend Facebook account.
She abused/used me sexually as long I explain to her that programmers aren’t hackers and I can’t hack fb account.
I feel bad for her! 😂😂4 -
The year was 2015
I was working as an engineer for a mobile operating system that's not Android or iOS.
My commit was approved and shipped just to find out later that one of the variables that I was supposed to name slotsNumber, I actually wrote it slutsNumber 🤔 🤷♂️4 -
Recently met this girl and she told me that she had gone on a date with another Software Engineer recently.
I asked her why it didn't work out..
She told that he started every single sentence with "I am going to assume that you know nothing about this" and went on to explain the most boring shit while assuming that she was a dumbass.
To the poor Software Engineer, you missed out on a great gal.2 -
My girl friend broke up with me few days ago without any solid reason. Today i stopped her and ask her why she broke up with me and she started giving stupid reasons whereas she was the one who was actually guilty of those accusations.23

I got my girlfriend while I was coding. I was working in the library. She came over and ask me what I'm doing. I was writing the back-end for a project in js. She said that she had done some Java before and asked me whether they're related.I asked her in return that are ham and hamburger related. She said ofc, you put the hams between two buns and you got a hamburger. I said I'm gonna be the buns then :) I got her.4

Step 1. Learn to code .
Step 2. Exchange code for money.
Step 3. Exchange money for car, soap & a clean shirt.
Step 4. Profit.
[GOTO: Step #1]
Lol. OK on a serious note coding improved my love life, it drastically reduced the frequency of dates - but dramatically improved the quality and duration of my relationships.
I used to believe that anyone/thing had the potential to be great - and (like me) all they needed was a little time to seize an opportunity.
This essentially meant there were no deal breakers and I spent a lot of time giving people benefit of the doubt and investing a lot of time & effort supporting and trying to build on aspirations that would turn out to simply be fantasies I was indulging.
I still idealistically believe that everything/one has infinite potential - only now I know which problems are worth solving, which are purely for fun or a thought experiment and which should immediately be thrown out and refactored.
All the ambition in the world is void without drive.1 -
We were forced to do a Friday deploy of a new project. I, smartly, decided to bring my laptop with me on a "couples date". I spent the entire evening trying to fix a screwed up deploy from a restaurant.
Wife was NOT happy.2 -
I used to collect rubber ducks back in college. I was absolutely crazy about it and tried getting my hands on almost all different types available like the Punk duck, the Pirate duck, the Weed duck....and so on.
I met this girl who was into the same thing and we ended up banding together to create a sort of webpage where we'd write crazy and hilarious origin stories for each of these ducks. We'd go to great lengths to create ridiculous comic book style encounters between them and had a lot of fun doing it.
We dated for a while but it didn't last.2 -
First I helped her with coding the Newton-Raphson method in Python (she has background in Mechanical Engineering).
Later I introduced her to the Linux world and she was amazed with the system responsiveness.
Now I am helping her with learning C (she is programming to Arduino but some concepts are hard for her because Python was her first language).
We are together for 4 years and going on.1 -
My wife and I met on a university VAX BBS just as Tim Berners-Lee was concepting something called “the World Wide Web and before the NCSA Mosaic browser was built. She had once dated a guy in high school who eventually worked on Mosaic and then became a founding Netscape programmer and whose twin brother went on to write the first version of the Apache web server. I saved her from a life of wretched millionaire excess when she married me, a lowly web designer.

I'm too ignorant about the rituals you need to do for dating.
I don't usually befriend ladies, I would just keep my distance. being a little cold to them, not hanging around, not chatting too much with them, just a greeting if possible
1. I try to get a little closer(just a little. to avoid da frend zone) to those I'm interested
2. I ask them to a date
3. If she refuses then back the 'being cold' attitude.
4. If she accepts... Haven't happened so I don't fucking know D:
I'm just inept at dealing with landing a date (not coding affecting my dating)29 -
Found this girl who also loves coding like me..... She's very studious... Have been doing projects with her inorder to spent time with her...Like for 3 years now....
But I don't understand what our relationship status is.....I tried asking her out..she just changes the topic every fuckin time... Like she also tend to spend time with me but doing technical stuff only....
I'm totally debugger zonez19 -
my wife got in contact over my website because of the content. the pen friendship escalated quickly. does that count?1
-
My GF is also a programmer. But we rarely talk about coding stuff.
Everything is fine with just one problem.
When I have a good focus on whatever I'm doing, I have trouble giving attention to other things and people around me. When doing Programming especially.
So I often feel bad that I couldn't give her enough care and time.1 -
dating is more deadly than death because it will sooner or later fuck you up so high that you will commit a spiritual suicide while physically remaining alive ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️💧💧💦💦💦💦😢💦💦😭😭😭💦💦💦💦😭💦😭💦😭💦😭💦💦💦😭💦😭😭😭💦💦😭😭💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦💦3

was jobless for some time but in those days I was seeing this smoking-hot mulata friend of a cousin. After several visits and "movie days" I asked her out for dinner which, to my surprise because I'm a nobody, she accepted.
we went out and eat some tacos in her favorite soda around the corner. And we went out a second time IIRC.
needless to say, the money that paid that modest dinner with such amazona was earned working as a freelancer in PeoplePerHour doing junior-level stuff in Python, I learned the language during my four last years in high school.
ah, how I miss that girl 🤷♂️.4 -
Story of coding affecting my dating?
Well whenever I start a new language, I always find myself having difficulties with time and date structure-
Wait, that's not the subject? ... oh the other kind of "date". Well, not finding difficulties for something I'm not looking forward to lol -
I only have stories of dating affecting my code, relationships are so energy consuming... So much easier to be alone and deal with it.2

One of our clients is a club near my town.
My ex loved to go there.
The club finally asked me to manage the access to the club through the CRM we made for them.
So I could literally let her in for free and none would notice. Now I might even make her pay extra, but who cares... -
This is a real history..
So i went to my friend’s party.. and he invited this hot girl.. (u know the girl that would never talk to any programmer)..
so she started asking me about programming, maths, software...
and I was like wtf.. is this real? (because u guys know that this is impossible jaja)
Actually, we spent all night talking about it..
for some reason she started hanging out with me and my friend..
now we are dating.. kind of crazy uh?
(she is an engineer btw)4 -
Its not effecting but definitely its weird one day i recieved a good morning message from my fiance,
I was working. Took time to read the message and i have no idea what I'm doing i almost sent her the message,
' print_r("goo '
Then i stoped removed the print and replied her 😆 -
On the one hand, as an avid programmer having a non-programmer partner, we (I) once wanted to mod some Gameboy Pokémon games (Crystal), but the games were written in Assembly and I was definitely not getting myself into that. My partner was rather sad, as this was quite a big project for the both of us, but it was never finished, and it was still complicated to explain to him why Assembly is such a bitch. Nevertheless, we found other projects to have fun with (simplest of them: random movie picker that chooses a movie based on title/genre/etc. from our own movie list file).
On the other hand, explaining and making programming exciting for people who are not into it, so you still seem like an interesting person for new dates (poly relationship), is really hard. But I would also blame my introverted self and not only programming for unsuccessful dating :D -
I’m a very logical person (INTP), so that’s probably why I like coding, and it definitely affects my relationships. I’m not very emotional, and that’s an issue when your partner demands you to be. When I’m down I make a plan in my head how I’ll deal with that issue and that lifts me back up. But there are people who simply need to be lied to telling them things will be just okay. So, yeah. I need to find girls who are also logical at least to some extent.6

I've been told a number of times that I spend too much time in front of my computer "playing games", where I am actually working hard on work projects and personal projects.
[I wonder how they figured that I am "playing games" when they haven't even seen what I am doing but anyways...]
Some people will just never understand how much dedication and effort my job as a web developer requires.8 -
For me coding is a huge part of my mindset. I could be having a conversation with a gf and be debugging an issue in my head. I could wake up in the middle of the night and start coding an idea I had just thought of. Especially if I'm working on something I'm too excited about, I will work hours, days straight and not make time for much else. So I've phased through quite a few relationships this way (especially with normies) 🤷♂️ I almost feel like I'd have to be with someone as obsessed as I am for things to work out lol
-
One of the ways I met a girl was helping her program her clubs website. Surprisingly a great way to talk about interests, likes, and dating (making an about page OP)
-
I’m a Frontend developer and my wife is Quality assurance Lead. We never tend to agree on things even personal. But with time I stepped up and developed negotiation skills. Now things are getting better 🙂1
-
Didn’t affect dating.
But on call sometimes has affected what will be 15 years of marriage this year. -
I guess coding is a coping mechanism for not matching on any dating sites and hence no dates...
I guess you could say it helps me find alternative methods to release my per up desires... Although I guess a real relationship is something it can't replace... -
During my education there was this "Exception('Smoking hot girl')", and also very kind/sweet I used to help a lot, and tutor best practices on whatever project she would throw herself into.
(It should be noted that half of our teachers where incompetent, or flat out wrong, so we kinda had to use more than usual time helping other people)
But being a shy guy, and having the spine of a worm, I got stuck as a 'personal teacher' for a good period of time. Never had the guts to ask her out.
Not sure if it's selfish to focus your attention on one person because you liked the girl, that's a lot of time I could've used to help others. Or if I should be proud of what I did, I do believe she'd dropped out otherwise....
But nonetheless I did enjoy the time.1 -
It's always hard to balance time between romantic affairs and programming projects when both are going on simultaneously. I've been talking to a girl at my college, and even though she doesn't take up much of my time, I still feel like it's harder to make time for my programming. I guess this is more of dating affecting my code, but I personally prioritize code over dating currently in life.
