I've ranted so much, this is where they moved me to. They couldn't fire my because I was too valuable an asset to the project.13

Corporate IT: YOU MUST COME INTO THE OFFICE. WE JUST RECEIVED AN URGENT NOTIFICATION FROM APPLE OF A SECURITY VULNERABILITY IN iOS DEVICES. YOU HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS HAVING A MAC ASSET. COME INTO THE OFFICE IMMEDIATELY AND UPDATE IT.
Dev: I don’t use that mac, it sits in my office desk drawer unplugged. I’ll update it if I ever need it for anything. Which I won’t, we don’t do iOS dev anymore.
Corporate IT: NOOOOO!!! YOU MUST UPDATE IT NOW!!!
Dev: I’m not wasting time driving into the office this week. We have an important deadline we’re working on, I can’t afford to lose 2 hours to this. Plus it can’t be turned on right now, It’s been unplugged for 2 years.
Corporate IT: THAT WOULDN’T STOP A HACKER!!
Dev: …11 -
Friend: Do you think you could make an app that does X?
Me: Yes but I'm not an app developer so haven't had much experience with app design so might take a while
Also friend: What sort of programmer are you? It's basic shit
My friends don't seem to understand that the programming loop for game development (Mostly background asset management) and app development is like trying to ask why a bull and a bull frog won't breed...Yes they both have bull in the name but they are 2 fucking different cunting things...8 -
What kind of supercomputer you have to use to get these fucking websites to work smoothly????
I'm on a fucking gigabit connection, ryzen 7 7700x, 32GB ram, and a fucking nvme, all it takes is opening a fucking recipe site and I'm instantly transported back to the 80s. I swear if i see another 4k asset I'm gonna punch something.
WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO FUNCTION OVER FORM????
Oh do you want me to disable my addblocker??? How about: you make a site that works you fuck. No i will not fucking subscribe to your brain-dead newsletter why the fuck would I???
And since when are cookies needed for a fucking plaintext site you asshat??? Tracking??? I swear if you could you would generate metadata from my clipped fingernails if it meant you could stick "Big data" next to that zip-bomb you call a website.
I WOULD like to read your article, possibly even watch a couple of ads on my sidebar for you, but noooooo you had to have the stupid fucking google vinegrette or however the fuck they are calling the fucking thing now.
The age of the web sucks the happiness out of life, and despite having all of this processing power, I am jealous of my fathers RSS feeds.
I'm sorry web people, I know it's not your fault, I know designers and management don't give a shit how long a website takes to load. I just wanted to make a fucking omelette.15 -
I applied for the wrong job for my placement year. Put down COMPSCI on the form (which, it turns out, is computational biology, which I knew nothing about) rather than ITSEC, which was the software dev side of things.
I only found out in the interview, when the first question was asked:
"So Almond, I'm a bit confused as to why you've applied to this role specifically given you've no biology background at all - could you fill us in?"
...errr...
I spewed some kind of crap on the spot about wanting to work in a field where I saw a direct & differing application of computing than I'd seen before, and thought my focus on the technical, rather than the scientific side of things might be an asset to them. This awkward exchange went on for a while - but somehow it seemed to work, because I was offered the job, and decided to take it - had a fantastic year there.5 -
One time I had this conversation with my then PM:
PM: …so in total we need like 3 extra pages; the leaders profile, event showcase and lastly a contact page.
Me: Sure, already on it.
PM: Make it simple and quick, I told the client the updates would be live in an hour.
Me: Okay.
*{5 microseconds later}*
PM: Also the page headers need to be different from the other pages.
Me: Yes, you told me that earlier.
PM: Okay, just needed to re-emphasis.
*{sad disturbing minutes later}*
PM: I don’t know if deploying on azure would be better than having the website on AWS. The pages seems slow.
Me: Yep.
PM: Or maybe we separate the asset files from the main site using a CDN.
Me: You right.
PM: The other projects on AWS seems to perform better in terms of SEO. Don’t you think?
Me: I think.
*{this dude literally just lent me a jacket and won’t allow me put it on}*
PM: So after we are done with this update we need to inform the client about the benefits of switching servers to AWS. I believe they will agree or won’t they because the event is close by?
Me: {{pointed both hands at my PC hoping they’ll get the message}}
PM: Oh you done?

Story #1: So I took a month of parental leave. And was planning to extend it a little longer to deal with my final exams. I was planning to spend lots of quality time with my wife and newborn son. Little did I know... It turns out that out of 5 OoO weeks I was looking forward I actually had 3 at most. The rest I've spent working remotely as I was insisted to deploy a brand new and poorly tested feature to PROD 2 days before my paternity leave. So I spent 2 weeks debugging things in PROD. Remotely. Needless to say that did suck.
Story #2: After story #1 I've learnt my lesson. This summer I took 3 weeks annual leave to renovate my apartment. I asked to not to be disturbed unless there's an emergency. And an emergency it was. One of our app users had a planned hi-load batch job lasting for 2-3 months. Hundreds of thousands of items had to be created and processed. It turns out the _processing_ algo had some flaws and was acting out. I was called out and asked to assist. I knew this sort of debugging is going to take a lot of my time so this time I put my conditions on the table: I will assist but I'll extend my leave by 1.5 the time I spend working now. They took the deal. Instead of 3 weeks I had 5 weeks of vacation!
I don't care that much about my salary. I prefer to exchange it for my time off hence I didn't ask for compensations.
Bottom line: NEVER EVER underestimate or undersell your time and effort. You are a valuable asset and if the team/client needs you on your day off -- make it count. Your time off is YOUR time. Never forget it.3 -
A tip to tech folks from my personal xp.
If you fuck up and make an impacting mistake in your company, like taking PROD down, noone is going to fire you on spot. Assign some more mandatory trainings - maybe. So you'd be more careful next time.
See, it's not worth getting rid of someone who made a mistake. You should be seated down and insisted to fix it. If you don't - then they might consider firing it. If you do fix it [with help or alone] - you become a more valuable asset to the company as you prove you are responsible for your actions and you take it seriously. You show that you can clean up your own shit and you don't need a babysiter next to you.
If you simply make a mistake and they replace you with someone else, that someone else is likely to be unaware of your mistakes and is doomed to repeat them. It's just bad for business.
Ofc if you making mistakes becomes a tendency rather than an exception, it's also a red flag for the business.
Don't get too laxed! And always answer for your shit. Never hide a fuckup - always alarm about it asap so that corrective actions could be taken by respective organs of the company while you are fixing it.
Come up with an action plan, announce it. Estimate resources you need [like help from others] - announce that too. Update concerned parties every half an hour or so about the status. If you find you need anything else while fixing it or you come across some blockers/delays/change of impact - always announce asap. Do avoid false alarms and disinformation.
// inspired by someone's rant today7 -
Today I am going to rant about this guy who I am working with in a group for creating a mobile application as a project for a course.
So let me give you some background info about this guy. He has 5 years of experience as data analyst from some company in India. Now he is here in Canada for his masters. I took him in the group thinking given his experience, he can be an asset. However, as I started talking to him it became clear that he has no experience with programming or software development. I am ok with that as everyone is new to something. However, he started intrupting and started giving negative feedback about each and every thing we discussed regarding the project. Don't get me wrong, I am all about getting feesback. But if someone who is just sitting there and just searching stuff on google just to bull shit with people to show that he knows stuff is irritating. He always provide useless feedback and solutions to any problems.
I was talking to him about his past working experience and his future plans after graduating. He literally said, "I want to learn just enough to fake in front of employer during interview. I was doing the same thing in my previous job." I was legit shocked at this moment.
Now I have to tolerate this for another 3 months. I am just worried about the project.7 -
Brain; "Ok you should get back into programming to take your mind of things at the moment, start work on that big project you wanted to start!"
Me: "Ok let's rebuild that asset I made last year that no body purchased or cared about!"
Brain: *Audible sigh*8 -
Found this gem of a comment in a code base written 4 years back.
/*
Invoke <Service Base URL>/asset/v2/details/<SN> to get asset details
Feeling very bad to include this call, but we really need to use this !!!
This call is gonna take ~20s to respond. I've even increased the overall timeout of this module, just for this call !!!
So, if you are looking to debug any performance issue, I wish you jump directly here,
remove this call and just use master data management (MDM)
P.S: It is not that simple, as MDM and this asset DB (both asset masters) has differences in how the asset is defined :(
*/
Still trying to understand how to remove this costly time-consuming call and replace with an efficient one !!
And, of-course, the original author left 2 years back :(3 -
My CEO uncle: "anyone can program."
A quote from when we were discussing strategy for my sit down with the CEO of a company I was applying at (FYI, his advice was to research the company, be familiar with their long term strategies and such). I get that there's no need to prove my technical prowess to a business exec, but it isn't because "anyone can program."
I mean, sure, in a philosophical sense, anybody has the capacity to learn. But developers aren't a fungible asset. Treating them as such leads to ruin.3 -
Anyone ever get the feeling of wanting to go further with a game project but not motivated enough to do any of the asset work for it?13
-
Game devs/other content creation people, how do you version control large asset files? So far I've been using git, but is there a better way?8
-
So building a game engine/framework/thing/thang and was working on a scripting language designed for the Dev terminals commands/applications...
Then I also have to design a language for the asset scripts, instances (probably going to do JSON) and it only took me about 4 months of planning to realise I could just use the same language for everything and just double down on the one.
Well aren't I a fucking dickhead .-.4 -
My freelance horror story is that I don't work freelance, but rather for a corporation where I am a faceless entity known as asset.1

So I just recently had the pleasure to set up a Rails environment for a friend on Windows. I haven't used Windows in about 5 or 6 years, and the person I had to set it up for doesn't know much about programming at all.
I all went fine at first, install database, devkit thingy and git. Then set up the project itself. And there is where the problems started.
First windows would refuse to use SSL, because of some weird bug in the Windows version of rubygems. The suggested upgrade did not work so I had to switch some gem sources to insecure connections, but at least it did install everything correctly.
Alright, I thought, that's not _that_ bad, everything is running now.
He sent me a screenshot some time later. Something was wrong with the JavaScript runtime, and I could not figure out for the life of me what the issue was.
Later again he sent me another screenshot.
His Antivirus spyware was messing with the asset pipeline. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
This was the point where I just said "FUCK IT, i'll just put everything into a fucking VM and let him use that".
I should have done that in the first place.
Long story short:
Setting up a development under Windows is painful.
Do yourself a favor and just use a VM.3 -
Will Always Remember my good friends
time is the only asset that has no price and that is something that we all have.
time is worth more than anything and anyone, even money. once time is wasted, it can never be bought again.
and guess what
the only thing that has no price, is the thing that is given to our lives for free.
each day you are deposited 86400 seconds for free.

Yes, I have to admit, sometimes Linux is a F*KING B*TCH.
I was supposed to fucking format a pc for a close friend of mine, cause he produces music and win 10 fucked his machine up with its broken updates.
Knowing the guy is a talent I promised that by 7PM the pc would be fixed.
Not really, I'm feeling the stupidest guy in this fucking earth, cause I've been here for 2 hours, fucking trying to extract an ISO image, and nothing on this fucking planet seems to work.
Tried the graphical archives, none open de ISO, tried 7z, it gives me an error, tried fuseiso, which is recommended in Arch Linux' documentations. Doesn't work. Tried mount - o my file.iso /mnt and it says /mnt isn't in the fstab file which makes me even angrier cause I always mount everything there without editing shit. So I installed 7-zip for windows in wine, it extracts until 90% and freezes. Now I'm trying hsuebrirbwkwpxjhw9shrbejejwke and my mouth is foaming and my ear is bleeding my brains out and I don't need you shit.
Fuck you, Fuck your goddamn ISO and Fuck this faggot ass spell checker, that changes Fuck to duck and assign to asset.
Fuck it, I ain't gonna format anyones pm anymore.18 -
Anyone who has watched Black Mirror and thought what shit it is and technology can never go that far but wonder what if it does and we all are fucked.
Or we are already there but mini version of it. I see people glued on there phone, screen, and even I am guilty of that. But the amount of data we create everyday which can be treated as huge asset by the AI and Data mining enthusiast, I dont doubt we will be at a breaking point, which is coming sooner than we think.6 -

57d9a7c THE MEM TEST FUNCTION YOU ARE LOOKING FOR, IS HERE. SAY THANKS FOR THIS COMMIT MESSAGE -
In the past: "Alright, have the day off, so can do some serious work (work on my game project). Let me just check my mail first... And a cpl of sub-reddits... And see if there are any updates for Unit3D, or any interesting forum posts, or new assets on asset store that look nice... And check some online newspapers just to see if anything is going on... And check if anything new has been posted on slashdot since I last checked 5 minutes ago (nope)... And maybe see if there's any updates to Sublime Text or new useful packages that can help improve workflow... Ooh came across article on how to improve workflow... Hm someone mentioned a new task-management system in comments, gotta check that out... I'll just sign up for a demo-account and... Hm but what if there are any better ones? Better google for comparisons. Wait, isn't there a new episode of Silicon Valley today? Gotta see that first, no time tmr. Hmm also new episode of Archer, and American Gods. Better get watching these out of the way first, or I can't concentrate... Ah, wait, it's dinner time, no point starting anything until after that."
Now: All of the above, plus "I'll just check devRant real quick before I... hmm... interesting rant... *scrolls and reads rants and comments for 3 hours*"
How am I supposed to get any work done? :_(3 -
I just finished designing an entire asset management pipeline and christ on a fucking pogo stick, if it isn't convoluted.
Theres a lot of game engines out there, but all of them do it a little different. They all tackle a slightly different problem, without even realizing it.
1. asset management
2. asset change management
3. behavior change management
4. data management
5. combinatorial design management.
6. Combinatorial Behavior management
7. Feature completion
ASSET MANAGEMENT is exactly what it says on the tin.
ASSET CHANGE management can be thought of handling the import, export, formatting, platform specific packing, and versioning (including forking) of an asset.
BEHAVIORAL CHANGE management is a subset of asset management, because code is a subset of assets (depending on how you define 'assets'). The oldest known example of this is commenting and uncommenting code.
Or worse, printf debugging.
This can be file versioning, basic undo services, graph management of forks and mergers, toggles for features or modules, etc.
DATA management is about anything that doesn't fall into the other categories, everything from mission text to npc dialogues, quests, location names, item stats, the works. Anything you'd be tempted to put in a database, falls under this category. Haven't yet seen many engines offer this as an explicit built in tool as of yet, because the other problems are non-trivial as is, so this is a bit of low hanging fruit that gets handled by external tools, or loaded from formats as simple as json.
COMBINATORIAL DESIGN management is the idea of prefabbing, blueprints of broader object design using nested prototypes of existing game objects, to create more complex, reusable set pieces. Unity did this well. GM does this in part.
COMBINATORIAL BEHAVIOR management is entity-component systems, plus tooling to make it easy to add, remove, and configure components and their values on entity blueprints, also not uncommon. Both stencyl and unity do this. GM has a precursor to this in the form of configurable fields, but these fields are not based on component scripts attached to objects.
FEATURE COMPLETION is that set of gameplay mechanics or styles of design that an engine naturally makes easier to include or build in a game.
I don't think I'm aiming for all that, but I think at minimum a good engine has to do asset management, behavioral change management, prefabs, and entity-component systems with management tools for that. And ideally, asset change management.8 -
I'm a developer, member of the A-Team. Actually I'm the leader of the A-Team.
We are incredibly skilled. Our problem solving capabilities is amazing, almost 100 times more effective than the rest of people. We produce code 10 times faster and better than anybody else. We have THE knowledge.
We can save the company in case of emergency.
For that reason, it's of paramount importance to nurture and protect the A-Team.
- When there is a bug, A-Team will not correct it. Because, if A-Team is busy, and bad shit happens, the company could be destroyed and we couldn't help
- When there is some important features to develop with a deadline, A-Team will not participate: A-Team must stay alert and ready in case of emergency
- If huge catastrophe happens and long hours, night and weekend are needed to fix it, A-Team will not risk burning the A-Team because it's the only high skilled team we have. The company cannot afford to have an A-Team member exhausted, underpaid, unhappy leaving or sleepy. Therefore, the company will sacrifice other less important people.
A-Team is company biggest asset and must be protected in any kind of situations.
The company should also pay training for them in order to increase their skills and make them unreplaceable.
These are my conditions. I'm the leader of the A-Team. You can't afford to loose me.7 -
I was doing an asset management project for the CTO of a small company in ASP.NET and the CTO decided to stick his crap smeared fingers into the development because he 'developed' a completely different AS/400 system which everyone complained was like having a dog smear it's balls all over your screen while taking a dump on your keyboard. Fucking idiot would have given me 2 weeks extra work with all the shit he broke if it wasn't for version control.
-
For the last 2.5 weeks I have been working on a application for a client that essentially amounts up to a glorified asset management tool. This project had a crazy deadline and I was tasked to solo dev. Because I could choose what to build the application with I thought I would try out Bun and Elysia. Loved it. Thats not the point of the story. I spent about 130 hours in 2.5 weeks on the project, slept 3 hours last night delivered the project after multiple QA rounds. Clients response on slack: This is unusable. We can not test. Client shares screenshot of design and my implementation. I went off script with a silly input field that they designed that never got used in any other place in the app but in this one model, so I decided to rather reuse a working component than creating a stray one. Oh and obviously the panel that the comments live in is full hight and not 80% like the designs. So the app is unusable. FML. How does that make the app unusable? Can you post comments. Yes tard, can you upload assets, yes tard. So what about constructive feedback. *constructive feedback left the building* THE APP IS UNUASABLE. FIX NOW.4

doing things right seems to be a waste of time
especially considering how fast things change beneath you
for years I've said I should just stop overoptimizing but I've yet to fucking try it. I said this to myself 5 hours ago and what am I doing. I spent the last 5 hours trying to overoptimize for a theoretical scenario that I won't ever even be in, because I haven't even decided what I want to immediately do
how about immediately do something Jesus fuck
next Tuesday this system will have to be rewritten again anyway
how many fucking asset loading systems do I want under my belt
just load the fucking assets
maybe decide on which assets you'll be using first so then you don't overoptimize for "WELL MAYBE ILL LOAD THEM INDIVIDUALLY THEN PUT THEM IN A NICE IMAGE IN RAM FIRST BEFORE I SEND IT OFF TO THE GPU" omg just shut up. just because you can doesn't mean you should. doesn't help everyone using this thing keeps insisting you do it this way. but you don't fucking need to.
actually you know what, I blame them. they kept confusing me with yOu ShOulD do It ThiS WAY. next thing I know I'm walking through every possible conceivable way to do asset loading so I can decide how to load assets and then end up in architecturizing of the perfect system. I didn't want to be on this path. but they told me to be on this path. I blame them
take-away: if you can make it work at all, just use that unless it breaks something. fuck how or for "what" the dumb system is designed. people don't stick to their "designs" anyway -- it's idealism just like free stuff sounds great in theory, but in reality it just shits up everything because it's unrealistic3 -
I got such a bad employer… oh, pardon me: committent-but-actually-employer-minus-the-responsabilities that I developed bruxism, rage bursts and chest pains due to anxiety.
Bright side 1: i quitted by saying them in their face “you don’t even fucking know what docker is and you claim to be an expert, get a fucking update”
Bright side 2: They failed a while… Oh wow much surprise, very unexpected considering that they fired the only dev with experience on the product and that they re-made the interface every other day making everyone’s job a miserable joke. Smart move, 10/10 would invest in them.
The “bright side” in this is mostly that I’m forced to accept I was a very valuable asset and shut up any imposter syndrome related to that bs work.
Bright side 3: It forced me to see someone which in turn forced me face some piled up shit, so I recently feel better and hate myself less!1 -
The license for assets on epics new asset store is insane:
For any Content licensed to you under a Standard License, you may not:
i. attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, translate, disassemble, or derive source code or data from the Content;
HOW IN GODS NAME AM I SUPPOSED TO USE ASSETS I BOUGHT WHEN I CAN'T EVEN DERIVE FUCKING DATA FROM THEM???? Like how in hell am I supposed to load textures and meshes when the only thing I'm allowed to do is to maybe look at them
They DO know graphics cards can do sweet fuck all with a JPG texture, right? Like I /genuinely/ have to translate that thing into a proper format for it to have any use11 -
I didn't know why I didn't ever told it:
I did a few multiplayer projects in Unity 4 Engine (beloved old multiplayer) and I wanted to create a custom dedicated server within the Unity engine.
I created a new project and started programming. The clients even connected to the server but I couldn't figure out how to sync the world's because the blocks the world was made of existed in both projects, but had different IDs (didn't knew there were IDs).
After a bit of googling I found out that it isn't possible to sync these projects. Tired of myself giving up I tried a different route and found out that these IDs would sync of you exported them as asset pack. So I did!
And it worked ❤️❤️❤️❤️
So I could have a less power heavy dedicated within the unity engine.
(PS: I knew I just could made a server in C# or so with sockets and what ever, but 12 year old me doesn't knew sockets) -
Repeat/repost:
Unfortunately I do not own a drop of what is conventionally known as confidence or ego. It applies to everything; work, skills, relationships, friendships, you name it. I can estimate my chances of succeeding, and sometimes be pretend-delulu for a purpose (you gotta admit, sometimes showmanship is the biggest asset) but I don't understand confidence. In my opinion, it's just a gross overestimation of one's chances.
So this project/paper thing, I feel like I'm blind and running in the forest. I am not counting on my boss, nor am I counting on anyone in the dept to give me clarity or decent feedback. ("Cutting edge" research issues. Not anybody's fault.)
And I guess, in the worst case scenario the paper will be rejected, which would be a setback but not a full failure.
... Actually, that's not the worst case. The worst case would be someone running a peer review and finding that I made a tiny mistake and all my results are bullshit. 🤦
... Anxiety is eating me alive rn. 🤢4 -
Not a rant... But I have a question guys...
I am currently a student in 2nd year of college.
I have been using and learning C++ since like 4 years now and it is my truely favorite language. It just is a joy to work with. Tried others but couldn't handle them (no offense. Just a personal preference) so here is the question:
What should I do in future? Like which field would be most enjoyable?
Currently, I feel game programming is it... I do enjoy whatever puny game like thing I make way more than anything...
I also specifically enjoy creating backend stuff...
(I always end up creating mechanics for working of game engine but never creating the actual game... Like creating an asset manager or something but not using it).
By backend stuff, I mean something which requires me to think a lot as to how can I implement something and then implement it (again, in C++). And then another developer could make use of it.
I heard game development has a very low scope for growth and is very very tedious... Is it true? What route should I go to?
Edit 1:
Btw, I enjoy building stuff from ground up, although ofc that doesn't happen haha...9 -
You know that experience when you update a modern desktop app that uses a zillion abstraction layers and the first time you do anything it freezes for a little bit while the heavily deferred metaprogramming and asset transformations are executed and cached?
I always imagine polystyrene balls flying all over the place.1 -
Worst: forced to work for 9 months on a shitty wp theme:
- colleague with no clue trying to make me do their work… check
- incompetent manager doing shit about it… check
- idiotic pipeline requiring to redeploy for every asset update… check
- micromanaging cto which for some fucking reason didn’t want to allow access to the writers, forcing the role of content editor on the devs… ducking check! Quack!!
Best: automated lots of processes in my free time, all stuff which I can reuse! -
Spent a day trying to come up with an intelligent way to compile assets only to realize I recreated Redux... 🙃
-
!rant
Let's say that I might want to change job. I'm into finance, but I'd like to approach the game developing side (yeah I know, don't even start, it is how it is!)
Question is: I've got a bunch of projects to showcase my ability to code in different languages. Would setting a public git repo be helpful? Currently all of my repos a private, and not really thought for being read by others, but I can always polishing things up. Would that be an asset or doesn't it worth the while?
I mean, in my experience nobody ever asked me access to my git repo!3 -
Coworker won’t stop apologizing for everything even though he’s completely competent.
He and I are learning a software completely new to both of us and he’s constantly apologizing for working slowly, not knowing where certain functions are, insisting I’m so much better than him, always reminding us that he’s “still learning” (has been with us for a year), apologizing for being afk for a few minutes, apologizing for having other stuff to work on during the day, apologizing for asking for help…
Again, he’s completely competent and an asset to the team but this guy is 20 years older than me and even calls me “ma’am” unironically. Is there anything I can say to him about this?7 -

Decided to change how my game engine asset loading and sorting systems work, giving up on making everything editable JSON files just so it's easier to manage and actually build things.
Currently trying to work out a way to load all of the packages sprites into 1 singular asset bundle and here is the evolution so far...
Revision 1: Compiles a single 328KB PNG into a 24MB file in 190 seconds.
Revision 2: Compiles same image into a 24MB file in 5 seconds.
Revision 3: Compiles into a 16MB image in 4 seconds.
It's not much but it's a start :-D
(Still haven't built a loading system so who knows if it works yet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)3 -
Get given two asset packs for a project I confirm with project lead, project manager and CTO which one they want to use. They then confirm with client and they all decided asset pack 2. Ok great, 3 months later week before deadline "we need asset pack 1 used instead"... Different resolution, different aspect ratio and now get nagged every few minutes how done is it, and that it's vital we meet the deadline. So close to just walking out that door.

I’m worried my manager denies me my role shift because I’m supposedly an invaluable asset to our small team, even though the request has been approved by the higher ups already. I would totally understand, tbh, but it’d suck nonetheless.
I don’t consider myself ambitious, but I’d like to move forward, not just run in place.5 -
I made a php script to generate a powershell script that performs asset conversion. The conversion tool was designed to work via command prompt but i hate using it so i switched it up to powershell and after that i had to build a powershell script because running the shell exec function failed miserably, sad part is that just about to the end of the conversion, that ran in the background for a little over 2 days, i ran out of disk space so it stopped doing anything :( w/e i at least got what i was interested in.

Back at my game engine asset system and thought of a way to store images and recreate them in memory programatically rather than 'unpacking' them... Bu turned a 256kb image into 4MB... How the fuck does this keep happening?!?!
Ugh this shit is going to drive me fucking mental!11 -
Fox Business: Coinbase preps Dogecoin listing.
TLDR: more fake money!
There's more and more assets being created in the crypto economy," Armstrong said during the call. "I think it's going to be something kind of like apps in the App Store on the iPhone, where there's eventually millions of these assets created over time, and so we're putting a lot of work and thought into how do we accelerate our pace of asset addition."

What are the different ways by which an Android can play an audio?
I was recently doing a research on Android audio. And i wanted to know which libraries are responsible for audio/video play.
As far as i know media player and exo player are the two libraries which can be used to play user variety of audio/video files, application's raw/asset files and online stream files. Are there any other sounds beside system sounds which i forgot or other libraries which are also used for media playing?
And also what about these system files? Can we access system ringtones and notifications/ alarm tunes in a normal, non-rooted phone? I remember that my previous phone's music player (android kitkat maybe) was able to pick some system ringtones. Is it still possible now(android lollipop nd above) ?
Although i guess music in Android assets or raw files of some other app won't be accessable to my app, unless i am having screen record permissions? -
A few months back I tried to get the company I work for to invest in software to located and recover lost/stolen devices. I brought a few offerings to the table but I was told we didn't need to worry about that because it never happens and we already have software in place.
Fast forward a few months and I'm looking at the software we're using and it seems we haven't actually configured the computers to allow for tracking. I send a message to our CTO about this and point out that, in the event of a missing device, we can't actually relocate it. Not 5 minutes later a manager comes in to let us know that his computer is missing and may have been stolen because his car was broken into the previous night.
Well I'm laughing because this is just the kind of thing I needed to happen, and the manager is freaking out because he's afraid the CEO is going to be furious. I get a few emails from other members of the leadership team requesting we set up a meeting to go over our security and asset protection procedures.
So I finally get to start implementing some actual security protocols around here. And fortunately the lost laptop was actually recovered because it was left at a bar and not in the car when it was broken into. -

Looking for potential clients on Upwork is like finding a holy grail these days.
Cheap clients with laughable budgets and high expectations on the right.
"Devs" and "Designers" with questionable skills who will work for the lowest rate possible on the left.
And don't forget the ever growing service fees and absurd measures like turning your profile private if you don't make any income in 30 days. Suuure, that's totally going to help anyone who isn't willing to work with low rates.
I am getting done with Upwork. Back on Elance I managed to get a couple of really good clients for long term projects and good commissions. Here it's impossible, even with lower rates.
You're competing against people whose portfolio involves changing a few colors for a envato template or logos made of stock graphics, and they are still more likely to be hired over you because they are willing to work on a t-shirt design for $4!
Networking is where is at. Getting contacts, talking to people, force yourself to introduce to companies as a potential asset.
That's how you get the good projects, right?
... Right, folks?1 -

Is anyone here up for a long convoluted explanation of how exactly I predicted the last major btc peak/trough within just a couple hundred dollars?
There's actually a pretty precise reason it did what it did. Basically when china started tightening the screws, userbase fell along with price.
And when the price of an asset falls *with* userbase or ownership numbers, there is a delay in reevaluation, and therefore "current" market value doesn't accurately reflect true value.
I can show the math but again its convoluted. Has to do with userbase versus market cap.
Not a financial advisor fyi and I could be wrong.3 -
Remember, you're not just the dev. You're the asset designer, UI designer, UX designer, translater, network assistant, general computer help, and more! What wonders you can work!
Actually, I'm wondering what management actually does other than "making decisions", whatever those could possibly be. We seem to make all the others. F*&#%*! -

The last year or so, I’ve been an IT consultant, and the project I’ve worked on uses JavaScript and jQuery to modify UI’s.
I know jQuery is pretty old, and I’ll soon be looking in my area for a front-end Dev job that specializes in using a “modern” framework. I know some React, but I think most of the openings around me are for Angular.
Come application & interview time, how do I make myself look like a valuable asset with the experience I have?5 -

1.2 years ago, I was an intern, In letter they've written that 4 hours to work but I was working 12 hours daily cause I was curious and my boss appreciate for this. so one day while testing our app at 3 am in the night, he said, u r working too hard, so u can take a Smart Phone from my side of worth ~$250. I was so happy. He said it is a gift for ur dedication. Also, they've given ~$250 on my initial day while joining to upgrade my PC. But now, I've provided my resignation letter. So they've asking me to give back the Phone cause its a company asset and also give back the money. But later they said don't give the money but deliver the Phone before 15 Jan. So, idk am I an idiot or what but I was working more harder and helping more people in company so that they're provide more stuff and get impressed. But now I think i should not do anything and do my work as a duty. Idk, should I return the phone, should I ask my boss again that u have given it as a gift or should I return another $250? I'm a student, I don't earn much and my boss knew it very well. like after 2 year of experience in MERN stack/ Azure/ Flutter, I've created many things in company and they've decided to give $3,607/year according to my new offer letter. That's why I left the company.5

Unity is such a load of shit. Why would you have every single tutorial tell you to instantiate a prefab with the Instantitate() method then have it break your game on build because you haven't loaded each individual asset inline. Isn't the magic of this whole process that the editor take care of that shit? Now the project I was sure would be finished by this morning is going to take me AT LEAST another day.1

I usually do like a good bit of challenge when working with web technologies for the first time, because one I learn to master them, I am really proud of myself and I can bring it as an asset for new projects. This means that I try to be as open minded as possible when working with a framework for the first time.
This being said, Magento1 has got to be the most overly complex, badly documented and unconfigurable thing even.
The fact that there's no way to easily understand how to configure a module has me distressed1 -

Hello everyone,
I've got a somewhat special issue with my setup.
I am running an instance of `lucaslorentz/ caddy-docker-proxy` as proxy that handles certificates and request and proxies them to docker containers that run `abiosoft/caddy:php` to host Laravel based applications. The problem is, that the `abiosoft/caddy` containers do not know it's assigned hostname and thus Laravel's `asset`, `secure_asset` and `url` respectively `secure_url` don't work as they use the internal hostname which would be an IP address and thus requests go to 192.168.240.x instead of example.com.
I am not yet entirely sure where I should tackle this problem and am grateful for every hint.
I am currently also evaluating traefik instead of Caddy-docker-Proxy and Caddys v2 official container instead of abiosoft's Caddy v1 container but I guess, that this wouldn't solve the issue as the container still wouldn't know that it's given Domainname is example.com4 -

THE BEST ASSET TRACKING SOLUTIONS / MUYERN TRUST HACKER
A night out with friends is supposed to be a blast—until you get a little too carried away and forget the password to your $600,000 Bitcoin wallet. In my defense, I had written it down... somewhere. But after one too many margaritas, I was left with zero recollection of where that vital piece of paper might be hiding. It’s amazing how a night of laughter and drinks can turn into a spiral of regret and panic!
With my heart racing and my stomach churning, I knew I had to act fast. That’s when I decided to call MUYERN TRUST HACKER. As I dialed their number on ( Whats app + 1, 4 4 0, 33, 50, 2 0 5 ) I half-expected them to burst into laughter at my margarita-induced amnesia, but to my relief, they were nothing but kind and professional. “Don’t worry,” they said, reassuring me. “We’ve heard it all before.”
To my amazement, it didn’t take long for them to retrieve my password and restore my access to the $600,000. I felt a rush of relief wash over me as they confirmed my funds were safe and sound. I could hardly believe it!
Needless to say, I’ve since memorized my password and placed it in a more secure spot—far away from my margarita-induced brain fog. I’ve also cut back on the drinks a bit, realizing that my wallet is worth more than a round of cocktails. So, if you ever find yourself in a similarly sticky situation, I wholeheartedly recommend MUYERN TRUST HACKER. They saved my sanity and my funds! When Trust Becomes Deception: My Bitcoin Investment Saga and Resurrection Dealing with Salvage Asset Recovery
What started as a promising investment opportunity quickly turned into a nightmare of deception and broken trust. I had heard the hype about Bitcoin and the potential for massive returns, so I decided to take the plunge and invest a significant portion of my savings. Lured in by promises of easy riches and assured of the security of my funds, I entrusted my hard-earned money to an online platform that claimed to be a reputable Bitcoin exchange. Little did I know that I was about to embark on a harrowing journey filled with betrayal, loss, and a desperate search for a way to recover my stolen assets.
As I logged in to check on my investment, I was met with the devastating realization that my account had been cleaned out, the balance reduced to zero. Panic and disbelief set in as I grappled with the harsh truth - the platform I had trusted had been nothing more than a sophisticated scam, designed to fleece unsuspecting investors like myself. With my funds vanished and no clear path forward, I felt utterly powerless and betrayed, my dreams of financial security shattered in an instant. The journey that followed was a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with uncertainty, frustration, and glimmers of hope when I was directed to Salvage Asset recovery. The Salvage methods were shrouded in mystery, and progress seemed painfully slow, but I clung to the belief that they would ultimately succeed. After what felt like an eternity of waiting and uncertainty, the Salvage finally announced a breakthrough – they had managed to trace the stolen Bitcoin and were in the process of recovering it, piece by piece. As the final pieces of the puzzle fell into place, I found myself on the precipice of a remarkable resurrection, my lost investment slowly but surely being restored to me. The sense of relief and gratitude I felt was palpable, a testament to the power of perseverance and the unwavering determination to right the wrongs that had been done. This harrowing ordeal had taught me a valuable lesson about the importance of trust and the consequences of placing it in the wrong hands, but it had also shown me the remarkable resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Hi, in my latest project I'm stuck on the CSS part.
I've already an Grunt + Sass Asset Generator for bootstrap.
The project has several (> 70) subpages aka modules.
The theming is client based, currently 4 clients with different colors.
At first I thought it was easy...
Splitting bootstrap to variables per client + bootstrap, so:
client1_variables.scss
client1_bootstrap.scss (including client1_variables).
client2_variables.scss
client2_bootstrap.scss
. . .
But now I'm stuck.
Reaason: The css classes are the same between the clients, eg client-bg-primary is the class.
I wanted to prevent generating for each client a folder - as every folder would contain the same content:
module/news/client1.scss
module/news/client2.scss
module/news/client3.scss
module/dashboard/client1.scss
module/dashboard/client2.scss
module/dashboard/client3.scss
...
Each SCSS file would only differ in the variable import...
Is there a way to prevent a Global Module CSS file for each client (as there are @##* fucking classes duplicated and I really don't want to untangle that mess) but not ending up with writing the same Code over and over?
The IRC sass channel is moderated, not possible to ask there... And when I google I find mostly themes based on an class approach (border-light vs border-dark)… :(2 -

On Facebook, I joined a crypto investment group called Capitalix FX. The manager annually selects the top 30 most active investors to reward with trading packages, including a multi-investor option promising 500% returns. Last year, I was selected despite being only 6 months in. Excited by the opportunity, I gathered funds and made a deposit, as per the company’s terms. A week later, the company website shut down. When I contacted the group admin, she ignored me and eventually removed me after I threatened to report her. Desperate, I sought help from a recovery company to save my family, as we had lost everything.
I discovered Asset Recover Net through a Twitter post and reached out via Email: assetrecovernet AT gmailcom. They reviewed my case, confirming that my funds were recoverable, and within 48 hours, they had anonymously retrieved my money and returned it to my wallet. I’m incredibly grateful to them and highly recommend their service to anyone who needs help. You can contact them via WhatsApp: +1 (504) 3 0 2 3 4 6 4 or Telegram: AssetRecoverNet -

HOW TO HIRE A PROFESSIONAL HACKER TO RECOVER MY STOLEN BITCOIN. CONTACT A CERTIFIED CRYPTO RECOVERY EXPERT FASTFUND RECOVERY .
FASTFUND RECOVERY TEAM was so thorough, they were so straightforward, had clear guidance, and was extremely Knowledgeable when I contracted them for a CRYPTO RECOVERY job. The root of wisdom is the awareness of what you don't know and after my investment loss, in my wildest dreams I never thought asset recovery was real or even possible, “FASTFUND RECOVERY TEAM” is indeed one of one. Missteps are an inherent part of investing, but success happens when you learn from them. Repeating the same mistakes without adjustment can lead to ongoing financial setbacks. Let us assume you invest in a product that claims to give you over 50% returns. However, there is a high management fee of 10%, and on top of it, the gains/ investment returns are also taxed. It means your net profit is in the single digits/ stagnant . You may stay invested in the product for years, assuming you are making excellent returns, but the reality is different, you may not even have been investing at all to begin with if all stones were turned. get all the transparency and certainty you need when you contact FASTFUND RECOVERY TEAM. Therefore, you should always pay attention to the various fees, transaction charges, and taxes before investing in a product or asset class. And it’s clear that’s what got us into this at the first place, that is chasing performance and it is a mistake most of us have made. After all, it’s really tempting to see a fund give high double-digit returns and invest in it, hoping that its dream run will continue and one will earn those returns. Unfortunately, in most cases, it doesn’t happen. That’s because the company may flop or the promised returns were never real. Contact FASTFUND RECOVERY TEAM today you’ll want to thank me later;
