Taught by managers who are too eager to hold "meetings which could have been emails", developers have now fully succumbed to holding "webinars which could have been a readme".7

Lmao I’ve never learned how to program. I’m just winging it and have been able to fool everyone the last 10 years.
Senior engineer checking in.11 -
Did I ever say I love my PM? He's fucking awesome.
In the summer I got an internship at this company and the PM had plans to turn me into a permanent employee, junior position I assume. I told him I'd need a month after school started to see how things went with school and the job at the same time. In the end I decided I couldn't work full-time because I don't have time for it. Also, I want to explore a bit the CS field and see if there's anything else I like (quantum computing and low level programming are at the top of my list), so I decided I won't be renewing my contract as an intern either.
Last week I went into a call with my PM to tell him about all of this and I did not expect the response I got. He actually thinks I'm doing right and supported me in my decision to learn other things. I didn't expect this kind of response at all and it made me feel much, much better (I was pretty nervous to tell him). He also told me that if I want to work on something else in order to learn I just have to ask (I currently do web dev).
But that's not all. He gives us, developers, space to work and doesn't micromanage us. He has technical understanding, doesn't force deadlines on us and understands that sometimes things take longer than expected. He is just great and I'm kind of sad I'll be leaving this job because he's awesome and (from what I read here on devrant) that seems to be pretty rare.
Anyways, that's it, no anger or anything today, I just wanted to say I like my PM very much.4 -
"Name 5 weaknesses of yours in the workplace and explain to me how you try to improve yourself based on these."
Just laughed at the question since I expected to name maybe 1 or 2 instead of 5. Only named a few from the top of my head, but this question is bullshit anyways.
Should just have noped out of there instead though since the company was poorly organized.4 -
I had enough of these "Recruiters" bugging me and decided to reply
Fucking take a minute read the god-damn description of the profile to see if they have those skills mentioned at-least24 -
Install a little tool on all machines that randomly discards every ~200th keyboard input.
Watch them suffer.5 -
The best part of our daily standups is hearing my coworker's daughter whispering "Baba~" in the background, trying to get his attention for whatever reason.
Then when we end the meeting and say bye, you hear her in the background yell "Bye Bye~"
Adds a little cuteness to what usually is a very dull meeting.1 -
People: Uhhhhh CSS is such a bad language it's impossible to maintain it, the cascade is stupid
Also people:7 -
We all get replaced by AI and nobody can understand their source code...
And everyone else just goes: hey it works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯12 -
Corporate hackathons are bullshit. I've swore them off. There is no way I'm going to be put in additional hours for so little gain ever again.
Companies have boatloads of money, and they think they can get away giving people $100 Amazon gift cards. SERIOUSLY? You pay for execs in millions of dollars for flapping their mouths.
Make it so that you pay out at least 20k+ to winners and give people something for participating - a nice 1k bonus.
You guys have enough money.5 -
How much arguments you need to change your opinion?
Once I was lead developer, new guy came and he was impossible in his quest to be right. We would argue for three hours, while time passed away. Every day arguments over slack...7 -
Fuck you for testing devs with them online algo tests instead of giving them real projects to do as a way to assess their coding skills15

Fuck this shit.
I got tested positive this morning.
I might have accidentally infected my parents and my colleagues.21 -
Does anyone else here hate people who use numpy panda and tensorflow and call themselves data scientists ??
Cuz I hate 'em. There are so many researchers who work day and night to figure out the math and algos which go into these libraries. These researchers are real data scientists.
If computerss sciemce would have been a religion, then just using these stupid libraries and claiming you are a data scientist would be blasphemy.7 -
Screw the current Stack Overflow community so hard. It's still basically the only place to get answers but I'm sick and tired of the "you missed a period on line 7 why are you even on this site??" attitude. Look here, yeah it's my bad for missing that part, but I'm pretty sure that if you can't figure out that I missed an obvious ".ToArray()" when pulling my code together for a sample, then you aren't gonna be able to answer my bit-shifting question in the first place.22

vsinder (VScode tinder) is more of like a GitHub tinder. Nobody looks at the code. all are interested in your GitHub profile picture.3

C has too much undefined behaviour because the standards comittee was being lazy and slapped that on a lot of issues that ought to have been implementation defined instead.
The most ridiculous example for UB: An unmatched ' or " character is encountered on a logical source line during tokenization.
Like WTF, that should be a compile time error, and it's easy to detect.21 -
FUCKING PROMISE WONT FUCKING RESOLVE SO MY FUCKING CODE KEEPS FUCKING RETURNING A FUCKING NULL VALUE FOR FUCKING FUCKS SAKE IT REALLY SHOULDNT BE THIS FUCKING HARD TO RESOLVE A FUCKING PROMISE WITHOUT FUCKING CRASHING MY GODDAMN SERVER9

About to send my entire department on Vacation Leave today for the next week. We have 3 days of work before we go on holiday leave (next week). And I want to give them a 3 day head start because fuck everyone else and I want me boys to enjoy shit beforehand.
Fuck you, managers do care.3 -
My employer keeps sending booze to our houses.
Officially meant for coronaproof zoom social meetings where they play stupid bingo games and quizzes on Friday afternoons.
Why they're sending 2 liter bottles of Rum, 3 bottles of rosé wine and 12 cans of craft beer for the 6th week in a row... I really don't know... I don't even attend the zoom meetings.
All I know is that during breakfast, rum is better mixed into coffee than through cornflakes.
Anyway... Why was this a rant again? Oh right. Can I sue my employer for baiting me into an addiction? 🤔42
